HTC Touch 3G Forum? - General Topics

Hey guys,
I'm really looking into upgrading my Kaiser to a new Touch 3G (I've wanted one from the start), but I don't see that there is a forum available for it, even though there are ones for the Opal/Jade and Blackstone/HD and G1. Is it possible that we can see one, or maybe upgrade the Elf one to the 3G?
Thanks

Hmm yep since I pre ordered mine yep I will have to agree here

great, I guess I'm not the only one
can mods give their opinions on this?

I'm thinking the Touch 3G will be my next device. (Assuming it has US 3G) Would be nice to have a dedicated forum. I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be too much interest in the device. Maybe overshadowed by the HD.

What i should buy?

Hi all..
again this very same question..
my first PPC was a QTEK 9090 (from audiovox), it was so fast and reliable that i have fallen in love with it, but its only CDMA and i needed GSM, so i decided to move on and upgrade to one more complete, the HP hw6945 (AKA Htc Sable), and i'm so disappointed with it.. its freacking slow, it hangs all the time, and now out of the sudden it stopped working.. the complete opposite from the QTEK....so, i'm going to buy a new one, this time, with more research .. and i hope to have more good times with this new one..
what i'm looking foward is a good sized screen, fast cpu, gps, reliability!!.
so, what u guys recomend to me?
i have seen some on the net..
htc touch pro
sony xperia
nokia n97
what else??? please give me your opinion and suggestions.
thankss
Welcome to forums

Depends on Carrier.. You said GSM So its either ATT or TMO
If TMO Get the new MyTouch
if ATT Get a HTC Branded Magic
There basically the same phone except that the Magic branded device has more ram & will work on ATT 3g Instead of TMO 3g.. & Although I would like the extra ram its not worth giving up 3g since I am a tmo Cust..
& If android isnt your cup of tea then get the Touch Pro or Diamond (or the #2 versions of each, but I am not a fan of the new styling & love the pocketability (is that a word) of the original diamond).

Neither.. I assumed you were in the US.. Whatever carrier you get should use the Same bands as AT&T though so my recomendation for them follows.. Also the hero is a solid device with identical specs but doesn't have the trackball.. Personally I like the Magic styling better..
If you can hold out for a bit, I suggest you wait another 3-4 months. Right now, most of the phones that you will see are ~528 mhz. By the end of this year, the SnapDragon chipset will come out (1 GHZ). Mostly all the phones mentioned above are all 528. If you can wait a little longer, you can get double the speed for ~$200 extra.

Please Help!... 1Ghz Tmobile USA compatible phones?

I Currently have the HD2 TMobile USA version, and I am pretty sure I will be returning it simply because I can not stand the fact that it does not have any games which show off the wonderful specs of the phone, so I will return it, but may return TO it one day...
So I am ready to explore another phone and would like to know if there is another Tmobile USA (3G) compatible phone with a 1Ghz+ processor ? Please advise me... I was checking out the Desire, would that be compatible with Tmobile USA 3G etc ?....
Thanks very much in advance for all your help / knowledge....
Please reply if you have any insight at all...
for instance, I have read that tmobile uses 1700/2100mhz for 3G...
is this true? Is this true for both US and UK? I am more interested in what are the 3G bands for US...I have searched but I get mixed answers...so this is one topic which will help me deduce if a phone will work on the Tmobile USA 3G network...
The Desire will definitely not work on T-Mobile USA 3G bands. T-Mobile requires both the 1700 and 2100 3G bands, and the Desire does not support 1700. Your best bet is the T-Mobile band version of the Nexus One or the T-Mobile HD2 if you absolutely must have a "1GHz processor."
Typically most phones not specifically sold for the US market will not work on US carriers on 3G.
Thanks for that info, I will be returning the HD2, so I am looking for an alternative because I really like the speed and specs just does not have a desired app market... so I wish they would make phones more universal....
are there any other alternatives besides the HD2 and Nexus One ?

Is there a reason why you would prefer the Desire over the Nexus One? I'm just curious. The Desire is almost the same as the Nexus One in terms of size and functions, but with HTC's Sense. If HTC Sense is what you want, I do believe that it is possible to have Sense on the Nexus One.
I don't know, I like the idea of the 'optical' mouse instead of the trackball....but it looks like I will be getting a nexus one...hopefully I will not be sorry? (although I miss the big screen size of the HD2...but the nexus one has a nicer quality screen)...give n take here n there

Nexus One also has the cool little multi-colored LEDs that light up the trackball for notifications. I say go for the NexusOne, then again, I'm really not a huge fan of HTC Sense on Android.
Don't return the HTC HD2.. just sell it on ebay for like 599$+ and, buy a Nexus One with money to spare.
Just try the Nexus and you'll be a happy camper

I agree; some people (hi iPhone users!) really underestimate the Nexus One. I think until they try it out in their everyday activities will they start to understand how useful it can really be.

thats what I was thinking, but I returned it anyway...I still have my upgrade opportunity now and if some other phone comes by for tmobile I will be able to upgrade to it -although it does not seem like they will have anything as good as the Nexus One/HD2 any time soon so maybe I should get the HD2 and sell it... the guy in the store said it still sells out and while I was returning it there was even someone who called and asked when they will have more in....haha

Rhodium is much better on my opinion!
TP 2 , HTC should always keep a hard keyboard in the Android and WP7s product line.

Cold not be more agree!!
Hope HTC comes soon with something interesting for both platforms
I would probably go with the HD2, simply because of the much larger screen (which is also capacitive) and the 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The Rhodium is a fine device, and the keyboard is unparalleled, but the internal processor sucks to say the least, and the resistive screen cannot even be compared to the capacitive one on the HD2. Both devices are excellent though, so no matter which you choose, you can't make the wrong choice.

That's your real decision in this...do you need the (world's best) keyboard bad enough to accept some of the (still awesome) TP2's relative shortcomings? Or can you get as comfortable with typing/swyping on this big gorgeous screen as many of us have done now.
EDIT: and just so everybody knows (and as you can see), orb3000 has arranged for some custom scripting that auto populates any thread with "TP2 vs" in the title, with a post of his saying "Rhodium is much better in my opinion!"...automatically and immediately as soon as the thread is posted lol j/k...he's just very passionate about his qwerty, and with good reason!

[Q] HTC Desire z or Iphone 4?? (Swap)

Hi , having been an avid HTC user a while back, rom changing etc, I got an iphone and have used that since. I once went back to a HTC touch pro 2 but didnt like it so ended up getting an Iphone 4 on release. Since then I still have a longing for HTC so am wondering whether to get another? I want to get away from the iphone to tinker with HTC again but cannot decide, what do you guys think?
I was looking at a desire Z because I want a physical keyboard so am hoping to swap for my Iphone 4.
My phone is in as new condition with box and accessories bought from Apple so is unlocked to all networks.
Let me know if interested, cheers. Stu.
Just looked at this lol
http://forum.iphone-developers.com/general-discussion/541-iphone-htc-desire-z-swap.html
I got a Z today, and I must say it's an amazing phone
Of course hTC Desire Z!!!
Stick with HTC
This should be self-explanatory, Desire Z FTW!
HTC Mogul (old)> iPhone (any model)
i had the same choice here in canada, went with the desire z and no regrets so far. though i briefly used swype on my friend's captivate and it was definitely impressive and with a larger screen thats nice... but no flash on the camera is a downer. iphone... meh
Isn't it pretty dumb to ask a question like that here at XDA? The people here will, of course, vote for the HTC. Looking for Android fanboys? Well, XDA is the place. You won't get a single objective answer here.
That's like asking the guys at Mercedes if you should get an Audi. The answer won't surprise you.
No no no, bazooka, I stated that I had HTC touch pro 2 previously and didnt like it. I just wanted a subjective view if things had improved since then.
Oh, i see
The answer is yes. HTC has improved since the Touch Pro 2. Check out some videos on YouTube or something, or take a HTC out for a spin. HTC and Android matches perfectly, and HTC has improved big time the last year(s).
I love my Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) that I just picked up, but they keyboard probably isn't for me. I think I would prefer an HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4G) instead.

Thanks Bazooka, I looked around and they do look better on video, so hopefully will get some interest for my iphone and go back to the good old days of rom flashing etc.
Was'nt too sure about the android OS , but seems to have come on a lot with the apps growing and growing.
I love the physical keyboards, had a wizard first off and had others all with keyboards.
Just something I am comfortable with .

Android is great, but IMO it's not "there yet". Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it can get better, and it will.

[Q] Opinions on the Desire

Hey guys, I'm looking forward on moving to a phone with a bigger screen and the Desire (Telus version aka a8182 since the 3G is compatible with the Argentinian band) is the best I can afford ATM.
I would like to know your opinions on the phone and the new SLCD screens that replaced the AMOLED featured on the first series of the Desire. Would you recommend it? Is there any problems I should be aware of- besides the multitouch "bug"?

The Desire is a really nice device. My biggest complaint about the Nexus One is that the capacitive keys are not located accurately, and too close to the bottom of the touchscreen. The Desire's hard buttons fix that. It has the same N1 touchscreen bugs, but nothing that I can't live with. It's flash capable, has a decent sized screen, has a trackpad, isn't a clown phone and it's pretty damn responsive on current firmware. All in all, it's hard to find a better device for everyday use. It's last years device, but it was among the best of last year's devices, and is probably the most popular Android smartphone in the world - for very good reason.
If you buy one, you will like it - but don't overpay. You should be able to find a nice used one for $325 - $350ish tops, and if you want to use it on AT&T, make double sure it's the A8182 model.

Thank you for your answer Attn1. I'm looking for the a8182 specifically since I live in Argentina and down here we share the same bands with AT&T. I'm bidding for one on ebay, my top bid is $250 and I'm winning so far for $172 but there are still 20 hours left. Luckily I'll get it for less than $250. I assume that most people that has a a8182 model in the States got it from Telus in Canda. Do you have to pay taxes in the States to import something from Canada?

And just to clarify on this -- the Aria has the same touchscreen "bugs" (limitations really) as the N1 or Desire. So if they weren't an issue with the Aria, it shouldn't be an issue with the Desire.

Actually, no, I wasn't referring to multi-touch deficiencies. I own all three phones - the Aria touchscreen does not flake out like the N1/Desire touchscreens do. It just just need to sleep the screen and wake it again to correct it on the N1/Desire, and it doesn't happen so frequently that I can deal with it, but it happens a lot more than it does on the Aria.

Thank you! Unafortunately I didn't win the auction on ebay but I'll keep on searching for a Desire. You like hardware buttons on the Desire over the capacitive ones on the Aria/N1? I'm aware that capacitives are very easy to "press" when you're using the phone and that kinda sucks but they look way better IMO. Not that image matters that much but hardware buttons feels a bit 2 years ago.
