While in the Bootloader the PC doesn't detect the phone
i can't seem to get it to switch to USB, it keep on serial
i am going to do some more testing with img on SD when i get home
Where are the debugging drivers for software dev, i didn't see them in the SDK
Good progress, we need usb support
That's the bootloader there, funny, looks the same as the other htc devices. Would this mean that firmware uploading G1 -> windows and other htc devices-> android would be easy?
The hang up button is the reset button. Just hold it for a few seconds and it will give you the option to shut down.
Very strange, once in boot loader, hitting the back button refreshes the screen. Normally it says serial0 but i plugged in the USB hit back and now there isn't a serial0. Must be in USB mode, but nothing popped up on my screen.
I love just how fast you guys get to work on hacking into all the phones you get your hands on.
ooooooo..... wonder if we can put other radios on it to get better battery life (like with the tilt)
Update
Update: DREAIMG.nbh on a sd card has no response
pressing the camera or back buttons seems to refresh the screen
but if a usb is plugged in the serial 0 goes away (no usb device detected)
if you press home and back while turning on the unit you get the hard reset screen (i haven't tried it yet)
btw i experience a error during one of the boot cycle that gave me a exclamation mark next to the phone, but after a reset it went away.
Try installing the usb drivers. Maybe that might make a difference.

I can get to this on the G1. Here's the menu I see:
Code:
Android system recovery utility
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Home+Back - reboot system now
Alt+L - toggle log text display
Alt+S - apply sdcard:update.zip
Alt+W - wipe/data/factory reset
It seems encouraging that it's checking for a file named "command". Anyone know if /cache is on the SD or the internal ROM?

hi all,
heres the deal. i rooted my defy with superoneclick, it worked great.
heres the problem and what i think is the cause but i need a solution!
PROBLEM: i switch my phone on, it starts normally
motoblur screen
then
T mobile screen
then
the normal swipe unlock
i ulnlock it fine but as soon as i do the wallpaper dissapears/goes black. i cannot access any apps. none of the buttons work (menu,home,return/back,search) but the info bar/ menur bar thing at the top that swipes down works fine and what ever is in it works fine i.e when i plug into usb im able to choose portal and tools and those other 3. but when i just leave my phone on lock then press power button/activate unlock screen. it will show normal background with time and everything looks normal.
the CAUSE ( i think )
i was installing apps and deleting motoblur stuff. but it it was one of those two, i isntalled an app and i deleted a file at the same sort of time. the app installed was some startup app killer or a firewall of some type. or it could have been that i deleted an apk file that had a real short name i think, like blur.apk
PLEASE HELP ME. I need a solution FAST its my first smartphone ever and i paid alot for it. if you need my phone info it was
moto defy android 2.1 uk version but then rooted with super one click
THANK YOU IN ADVANCED FOR ANY HELP
ps i have installed rsd lite and it is recognised by it but thats as far as i know what to do...

i sent you a pm too. thanks for being so quick to reply. but i dont know how to do that stuff im a noob this is my first androidsmartphone ever but im a very quick learner
all good. For my phone. ( droid incred.) when the phone is off i hold power and the volume up key. then i select recovery using the volume keys. I know the buttons to push are different on some phones so you might neeed to use google to find the right 2 keys to hold down while booting
i currently have it in boot loader mode, it says battery ok, ok to program, transfer mode, usb. and thats all it says. no recovery options at all
Ok, found this in another forum. this is how to get into your boot menu i guess:
The boot menu happends when you press the volume down key and the power button.
When it takes you to the triangle part press the volume up key and the power button this action brings up another menu on which you can reboot and other settings.
the first triangle with exclamation mark inside it with the lil andorid man comes up, but the second menu doesnt, im holding vol down and power to get up this image, the to get second one you say to do vol up and power...i tried it, held it for a while but still no joy
ok, give this a try
"If you swipe the bottom right corner when you see the triangle you will get a menu. From there you can reboot or reset"
Still looking for more
nope sorry still dont work. i really appreciate you spending your time doing this it realy does mean ALOT. thank you i hope the solution isnt far away!
Ok, this is from the t-moble forms:
One suggestion...
Pull the battery.
Hold down the volume down key and press the power button.
Continue to hold the volume down key until you seem something happening on the screen.
This should boot you into recovery mode, you'll see a little green Android stood next to a yellow warning sign.
Press the bottom-right corner of the screen, a menu should appear.
Use the volume keys to scroll up and down.
Scroll to 'Wipe DATA/factory reset' and press 'ok' (bottom-left of screen) - you may need to re-confirm in a sub-menu.
After the wipe completes, scroll to the 'reboot' option and press 'ok'.
If you do that, you completely wipe the handset, same as if you performed a full factory reset on the handset.
Obviously, this will get rid of anything you have on the handset but if your only other option is an exchange, you've nothing to lose really.

it says it worked that it did the reset properly but still same original problem.
it says first line....
E:cant open /cache/recovery/command
that is in the recovery mode / reset
do you have a rom that you can try to flash? any rom really just to rule out a rom issue. you can try to find a rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=855&order=desc&page=1
im going to give it a try ill get back to you to let you know how its going within the next 20 mins, thanks for all your help
here is an option for a factory reset.
1. Turn the power off on the Defy (if it's frozen, pull the battery out & reinsert it)
2.Hold the volume down button
3. Press and hold the button until the device turns on
4. You'll get a menu that allows FASTBOOK, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, and SIMLOCK
5. Select CLEAR STORAGE, by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power
7. Now just confirm your decision Volume Up for YES, Volume Down for NO
it says on rsd lite . fail flashing process. unable to retrieve initialization values from INI (0x07029);phone connected
isnt working for some reason
that menu...mine says
from top to bottom
Android system recovery <2a>
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
(then at the bottomit says...)
E:cant open /cache/recovery/command.
but yet it will still go through the process like it is working but it doesnt fix it
Did you try the top option. Android system recovery <2a>
i wish i had that same phone to replicate this problem
im sorry i didnt write it clear enough the top android recovery thing isnt an option, its like the header/title for the program or page its written in red. the options to choose are in blue
Below is the procedure to FACTORY REST, ROOT AND MArket installation for COBY KYROS MID7010 or MID 7010 Tablet owners stuck at white boot screen OR android OS not loading after any manipulation with the firmware OR interested in rooting and installing google market.
FACTORY RESET Steps:
1. Turn OFF the device
2. Make sure its turned OFF
3. Press and hold simultaneously POWER + BACK + HOME buttons (as in third Pic)
4. The device turns on with COBY logo, keep pressing......
5. After about 15 to 20 seconds the COBY LOGO display changes and prompts to press the keys again within 5 secs to factory reset the device.
6. LEAVE the power button now while still pressing HOME and BACK keys
7. FActory reset is initiated!
TO INSTALL MARKET AND ROOT:
1. Enable adb debugging on your tablet, connect to pc wait for driver installation if any. Run SuperOneClickv2.3.2-ShortFuse.zip > choose advance> driver install
2. Will prompt to force install drivers ( if the adb device drivers not available), accept and sit back! the program will not respond for a while 10-15mins and prompts back that the drivers are installed.
3. Run root from the above software (clicking root tab)
4. Open root explorer or any file browser accepting root, browse to system/app copy all files in attached folder (apks) here, if prompts to rewrite( do not allow!)
5. Change permissions of the copied files as in other apks in system/app folder.
6. Google market app appears in app drawer.
7. Run and Enjoy!
thnks for the useful thred
thanks a lot for this thred since no one is taking care of this model "7010" .. my kyros 7010 stop working and freez on android booting screen a did the method you post here but i got this message
" Unexpected updater mode! Pleas reboot your device"
could you pleas support me with any help since i am olmost about to lose the hope to get my Kyros back to life
Follow the buttons, you arent pressing hard the back button. its HOME + BACK+POWER all three buttons altogether. until the coby screen changes to reset request as in pics. Ask someone to press the power button while you press the front two. UNTIL THE COBY LOGO display changes (15 to 20 seconds).
the same problem
really i tryed it ten times and got the same message " unexpectaed updater mode please reboot your device"
it gives me Penguin logo "Linux logo" befor this message - this logo is normally comes even befor it stop working
pressing the power button + home button only displays your message. You are definitely not pressing back button hard enough or its broken?!?. TRy pressing power than reset pin at back together. a white screen appears release both buttons and try the three button combination again.
YOU must apply steady pressure on the three buttons for 20 seconds till the coby logo screen automatically changes. Ask someone else to help you with it. THIS KEY COMBINATION DEFINITELY WORKS!
the same problem
i did the power + reset and yes it gives me a white screen then use the three buttons "i am sure i pressed them well"
the coby logo screen changes to Penguin logo "Linux logo" and it gives me the same message
i feel that i am breaking your head but you are the only hope that i have no more help on this model .. so can i do that throw ADB i did root it using adb and whin i tybe # recovery it gives me (android system recovery <e3>) with 3 choces to restor or reboot somthing like that but non of them are working i can choose between them but i cant select or confirm i tried all the buttons but no action
when do you release the three buttons? Are you sure its mid 7010 there is no recovery rom partition in mid7010 as far as i know.
i releas them after i swe the message "unexpectaed updater mode please reboot your device" and i try to wait more than one min as well
and yes i am sure it is coby kyros MID 7010. i got it from Dubai as a present
i know there is no recovery partition as i read it a lot on the internet.
so do u have any recovery rom for that model or any other way to install system on it???
Since there is no recovery partition than A kernel is required to repartion the partition table WHICH IS NOT EASY and since there is a way to factory reset why would one bother. i don't understand how you got to recovery menu when there isnt any? Besides have retried the steps and they work all the time. MOSt probably your return key is damaged!
rooting
i did everything and then when i connect the device via usb (after debugging n since there is no unmount) superoneclick does nothing, no driver update nothing, it just stays there, n if i click root, it hangs(super). m i doing something wrong?
it hangs! thats the point..... it takes time. Does it prompt to force install drivers yes:no?
the program will not respond for a while

You have to keep holding the three buttons the Coby LOGO display will change after 20-30 secs. ANDROID logo means the reset is done and the OS is loading will take time after reset. blank black screen means the Os cannot load hence factory reset must be done. Which logo are you stuck with?

Your final hope is getting the back button repaired or ask someone else to do the reset procedure for you. No one is going to create a kernel for you. or for coby. try kyros forum website see if you persuade someone for more TECHNICAl support. I believe your tab's back button is damaged.
I have the Coby Kyros MID7010wc and I followed those steps, but it didn`t work - google market icon didn`t show up on apps screens. I tried to run those apks but it always says "application is not installed".
Is there something else that I can do?
did you root the device successfully?
how did you change the permission of the files in the attachment after pasting them into /system/app folder?
did you restart the device after above step?
* You need not manually install anything as it wont work just copy and paste them into system/app, change permissions and restart.
Yes it is rooted - used SuperOneClick
I didn`t understand when you said "if prompts to rewrite( do not allow!) "
if I don`t overwrite the apks it won`t install the files.
Anyway, used root explorer and copied each apk one by one in the system/app folder then changed the permission (checked every fields).
Did you reboot the system after changing permissions? Overwriting all apks in the attachment to system/app is not required rather unnecessary as google framework already exists only missing is phonesky or android market. These steps worked for me try reading other mid7xxxx threads to cross check
I redone everything and it is working as expected.
thanks!
Hi guys,
I have a problem to start in recovery mode, which means I can't flash roms and even re-root my tablets.
The major changes I did should be:
1. I un-root to firmware(not likely i guess)
2. I delete all the files in my tablet by connecting to a computer and select all items and press delete( perhaps I accidentally delete something that is important)
Now once I press power on/off with Vol down I can still access to 3 icons
I press Vol up to RCK then I saw Android died with the "!"
do anyone of you know how can I fix it?

Copy the latest Firmware on your SD card. Re name it to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip"
Go into recovery, and it should reflash and reset.
however, the issue that i stated is primarily about failed to access recovery mode instead of solely failed to flash roms

This Vizio XR6M came with the M65-D0 display I bought. It was running their unmodified version of whatever software was preinstalled. It worked fine all the way up until they pushed an OTA to it, which is causing it to bootloop. I cannot get into any usable recovery because the screen that appears where recovery options should be is the Android on its back with an exclamation point I believe. Can anyone help me get this thing working again? Thanks.
I was really hoping that someone would have a clue. This really sucks. I'll keep waiting
Had the same thing happen to me. When on the screen with the android on his back, hold the power button and quickly press volume up. This should give a menu with a handful of options. Scroll up and down with volume up and down and press power to select. One of the options is to wipe the device. Do this and then select reboot. (There is also a wipe cache option, but this didn't do anything for me.) This is what I was told to do by Vizio support. Unfortunately I've had to do this wipe 3 times now. This tablet is very unstable in my opinion. (Once after an OTA update, once after I rebooted it, and once it just rebooted itself and got stuck in the loop.) I came across your post while looking for info on rooting the tablet or at least getting a backup like TWRP on it so I don't have to spend an hour downloading apps and getting my settings back like I had them every time the tablet decides to lose its **** and go haywire. Best of luck.
Gah... I spent about an hour trying different key combinations to get into recovery... I thought I tried all the key combinations at that Android screen too... But I guess not. Thanks!! Trying a wipe of cache with no expectations that it'll work... full data wipe incoming....

I just picked up two of these TVs and wall-mounted them and they are pretty fantastic, one of the remotes updated just fine but the other one keeps giving me a signature validation failed when it tries to update. I've wiped the cash down a factory reset from recovery and factory reset from inside Android. Anyone have any ideas? I've downloaded it on 3 different WiFi networks and tried to install it probably 10 times now.
Vizio's online chat support to the rescue. I told them what the issue was, what all I tried, she had me verify that I had already done what they suggest (basically get into recovery and such), and told me to send them a copy of my receipt and I'd get a free brand new one, or they could send me a refurbished one without it.
Here's the instructions she gave me.
Please try the following steps:
1. Power the tablet off. While the tablet is off press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time.
2. The tablet will vibrate and the V logo screen will pop up. Let go of the POWER and VOL DOWN key when the tablet VIBRATES.
3. The tablet will show a picture of the Android mascot laying on the ground with the text 'No Command'.
4. Press and hold the Power key and tap Volume Up key. (One you've tapped the volume up key you can release the power key).
5. Use the Volume Up and Down keys to navigate the options, and the Power Key as an 'OK' button to select options.
6. Navigate down to Wipe Data/ Factory Reset, and press the Power key.
7. Text will appear in the bottom the screen indicating the tablet is resetting.
8. The Android Recovery options will appear again. Use the Vol Keys to navigate to 'Reboot System Now' and press the power button to confirm.
Note: After the reset it may hang on the V logo screen for 5+ minutes before initiating the rest process.

And after the hair and saliva samples to verify you're really a human and not something from Nibiru, you were able to get into recovery and get it working right?!
Crazy, ive had at least 15 different android devices, and never ever needed to go through a military-style agility course to get into recovery.

It took like 2.5 weeks to get the replacement too, but it was brand new. Now I've got 2 tablets, 3 wireless chargers, and I don't want to use them at all. LOL
Does anyone know if anyone has a factory image that can be flashed? I think mine has bad firmware so resets don't do anything to fix it.
This device have made by Chinese/Indian company Borqs. The code name Bennu-M. Platform is Qualcomm APQ8016 (MSM8916 w/o modem). There should work standard method to bring EDL mode. Hold Vol+ and Vol- at power on (press power). Then connect to the PC. Thus device will stay look dead, however should be detected as Qualcomm QDLoader 9008 on the PC side. This is the factory described method.
You can flash factory firmware from this mode using external bootloader (programmer) for MSM8916 firehose protocol. This procedure is described in the thousands of manuals around the net. Qualcomm tools like QPST or QFIL can be used as good as many 3rd party utils to flash and manage any another available way. Many professional 'box' tools should support this device too but only as 'generic' msm8916 (if applicable).
However I can't find the firmware package for this device anywhere. You should ask and require the manufacturer/distributor to publish firmware, the source code and all the corresponding matherials to be able to flash and rebuild firmware from sources in any manner you want without any limitations as required by GNU/GPL free open source software licenses this firmware is obligated to.
Everyone who have the device working or software dead, can try to dump the current firmware and data, stored on the internal eMMC memory module in part(s) or in whole image using free QTools project utilities and suitable external bootloader with ability to dump eMMC, not only to flash as many factory supplied programmers do. There are programmer(s) for MSM8916 available in the project repo. Read and understand manuals carefully before trying anything!
There is definitely another ways to root, dump, flash, manage the device in any manner YOU WANT, not only the way you are "allowed" to use your own device by manufacturer/distributor. FTA!
You can root the device then dump all the multiple partition images manually (dd if=/dev/block/mmbblk0...... of=/sdcard/......) or using built custom recovery like CWM/TWRP for your device. Please note, kernel sources are important but not mandatory to build e.g. CWM. You can build one using CWM image from the similar device and the kernel (boot/recovery) image binaries from your device. There are good manuals and image repacking utils available around like e.g. AndImgTool.
There are the way to produce factory image from the eMMC/partitions dump(s). Use utils like R-Studio to dump particular partition images from the eMMC dump (it's like whole HDD or UFD image with all the sectors raw, one by one, w/o any modifications/compression/etc) Manuals / utils are avavailable to make e.g. sparse and xml scripts set which is flashable by the programmer in the EDL mode (i.e. from any damaged state, because EDL is built in to the PBL and masked to the internal CPU ROM, thus can not be damaged in any manner, except firing the CPU up).
You can also flash partition images from the more common Fastboot mode, unless eMMC GPT and bootloaders (SBL/RPM/TZ/ABoot) stay intact (logo showed). You can't dump from fastboot, which is common due to the (foolish) 'safety' requirements. It's security by obscurity and is definitely not for your favor, but for the corps control over you and force to send valuable private data to foreign clouds.
Please share eMMC full and/or partitions dumps using reliable 'neverending' file cloud/hosting since there is no factory firmware available yet (ever). I do not own this device and never seen being overseas, so I can't share. Help each other and f... the mfrs and matrix!
I have a px5 radio packed as kanor. It is a px5(1024x600) running 8.0 with mtce_kld_v3.01_1 and has physical buttons.
It was running ok. I went into factory settings and changed the led color and changed the mapping on one button. It said it needed to reboot. It did and now I just have a blank screen.
I can get into recovery mode. I have tried to flash a new mcu from the 4pda site (also 3.01) as well as an update.zip. one I had went through but when it comes up I still have the black screen. I have tried an update.zip that was rooted but that just fails. I tried creating a boot sd card and upgrading (I think this was in malaysk thread. I have read so many things on this sure and am just starting to confuse myself even more.
Can anyone please help me understand what I need to do to try and get this thing back up. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

That looks good to me but I still reboot and get no screen. What am I missing?
Hi.
I have a similar problem.
I was updating my radio auto, the original was on android 8.0 and updated to 10.0
so far so good ... then I wanted to update the mcu because it was at v2.80 and put the file on the sd card and clicked on mcu update. the radio restarted and a screen appeared like this:
- a screen with chinese Letters
- a red, a green and a blue bar
- a Version PX5 V1.1
to get out I had to take the card out and press the reset button. now the screen goes black and nothing happens. but if you put the card in and press reset you will return to the screen with Chinese letters ...
the worst thing is that I cannot now enter recovery mode.
I tried using the reset button and nothing .... the only signal that seems to be for recovery mode is to press the power button for 10s, the lights flash, then I let go and charge again but nothing happens ...
Help me, please...
After the lights flash when holding the power button let go then press again right away.
I never get any letters out anything on the screen unless I enter recovery.

If you get recovery button sequence LED flashes, or into recovery, MCU is fine.
No screen, try OTG Android recovery - refer my signature.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just started to read the thread. DO I really still need a jig? Afraid that might be beyond my skill set.
Either way, Thanks.
