Android and the Fuze!!!!!! - Touch Pro, Fuze General

so with t-mobile G1 coming out wendsday i wanted to start a post about the fuze and the android OS. i know the tilt has a bootable version and i searched and found nothing for the touch pro. so i guess my question is does anyone have a working android OS on a TP/FUZE. if there is nobody with one yet when and if one could be available. im interested in this because it is open source.
Thanks
BobMarley2k9

I am also interresting in Android. Wondering if there is something coming for TP!

Everyone's interested, but no one's making a move. No, there's nothing available as far as I know, and there won't be for a while if I were to guess.

i'd have to say that it definitely wont be here until the fuze is released, and probably a few months after that. people need to get their hands on the actual phone to roll the drivers, debug, and work out the kinks. i'm definitely interested in trying it, as this phone is one that will have the horsepower to run it on top of windows mobile (provided most everything is turned off in winmo). here's to hoping that some intelligent soul spends some time on this!

Oh most definitely, I don't see any problems running it at all... If you can run the memory hogging TF3D on top of WinMo with 288MB RAM, and the G1 comes with 192MB, I think 288MB should be just fine to run Android as well.

no kidding, with TP's spec it would run android much better than G1 does.

besides the whole capacitive screen thing. do you know if the android os is resolution independent? ie: will it work on the vga screen that is different from the g1's 480×320 screen?
lolz: it will look better in higher resolution!

Check out zzzphone.com and find a spec for that screen, that'll tell you if it's resolution independent (unless they completely reconfigured it to that phone).

I'm not totally sure it's a scam, but the site is horribly set up and that photochopped phone is very misleading. I wouldn't trust custom-built Chinese electronics even if it was legit.

You do know what they say though, when something seems too good to be true... 7MP camera, 4 stereo speakers, GPS, wifi, 512MB RAM, touch screen, $459?

I stopped the slideshow and left after I saw they couldn't even spell Micro SD, thats a total scammer site.

anyway ...
so now that the source has been dropped by google for android, do you all see HTC developing andriod for future phones even putting roms out for their "current" line.
i looked in the rom dev section, and didnt see anything, but would anyone on this board here be looking into writing for the TPro? I am WAY more interested in a TouchPro with Android than with windows.
i dont think the resistive/capacitive screen matters since android is supposed to be scalable. so ... i dunno whats gonna happen, but id really like to see someone adapt the TPro to android. would they have to start from "scratch" or could they somehow use the build for the G1 and change it to accommodate the TouchPro. similar hardware ... if it was released.
but if anyone has any news, other than scammer sites, id love to hear whats goin on, on the dev side.
thanks!

Typing this up really quickly as im waiting for lunch, will expand later.
I got lots of pics and vids already, which i may post later if there is any interest.
Android stuff seems to be decidedly absent so far.
@Microsoft: You all probably already heard about WM 6.5, saw some demos live, looks like a decent UI improvement, but its still no iPhone. Also saw some new devices here, including Acer stuff.
@nVidia: I did get a chance to play with a Tegra device, which was really snappy and smooth, but also the size of a small house. Very promising. They did have two normal Tegra devices on display, with names I had seldom heard before, but behind glass.
@HTC: Played with the Touch Diamond 2 a bit. I dont like the new form factor much. It wastes space at the bottom, and introduces a zoom slider that I couldnt get to work in either IE or Opera. They did do some more HTC integration, new startmenu, better contacts list etc. The Touch Max is just an HD with WiMAX.
@Qualcomm: They demod snapdragon, but it didnt seem as impressive as Tegra. Also, I was not allowed to touch the device. The now infamous Toshiba was also there, but again, no touching. BTW Nokia just made a deal with these guys, so abandon ship!
@LG: I was surprised to learn they are switching to WM as primary OS. They had some nice Omnia-like devices though, and the wristwatchphone was also fun.
@Samsung: Biggest surprise here, it seems the OmniaHD is running Symbian! No idea yet if there will also be a WM version.
---
The open eco system keynote with Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T CEOS was interesting. AT&T guys was the best, Ballmer a close second with his energetic ways and content, while the Nokia guy almost killed everybody due to excess boredom. The keynote itself was mostly a call for more working together and being generally more open with things, which they all agreed was necessary.
---
BTW, I dont know who CBOSS are or what they do, but they do employ an army of hot models!
More later, lunch is here, and I want to find myself a Palm Pre to play with!
ok, just tell me which device to get and that's it. so many out there i can't decide what i want.
JUST TELL ME! AHHH!
Omnia HD!!
HTC's hardware seems to be stuck in 2007 compared to Samsung and LG, heck even Sony Ericsson.
Kinda worrying how ppl are moving towards Symbian, but can't blame them windows mobile really is starting to show its age and no amount of skinning will disguise the fact that it needs a major revamp.
Okay, I was seriously thinking of abandoning the HTC ship for the nokia N97, so I could keep my tilt screen, but now? So if it is not too much trouble, my contract is up in April, could you please corner the AT$T guys and ask them when my new Touch Pro II ( Fuze II ? ) will be available on AT$T? Thanks
Some more stuff... First, somebody at HTC really needs to be fired for putting XT9 on the TP enabled when keyboard is extended. Annoying like hell, finally its off
Found some very nice Android devices that should be out by Q2. The company didnt decide on the brand name yet.
Unfortunately you cant play with the Palm Pre unless you are press.
@Gigabyte (GSmart): some very nice upcoming WM devices. Some were running 6.5 and I played with that. I think somebody made a mistake there!
@iMate: They drowned some of their WM phones. Waterproof!
can you attempt to get the new WM6.5 build ?

At Toshiba's booth, you can freely play with the TG01. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3339526 for more info & a lot of pics & videos (more to come!!!)
Hey Werner!
You're here? Haven't gotten round to Toshiba's booth yet, but if you're interested, PM me your phone number (plus international code bla bla) and we can meet up, schedules allowing... There will be beer!
No ROM dumps people It's a small booth, can't make it happen.
About those Android phones we saw (and I must stress here, I haven't even seen half of all the exhibits yet because of appointments and speeches etc), first, they looked very nice. One of the sexiest phone designs I've seen in a while, but then it was made by a 'design company'. They originally focused on Linux but switched to Android when it was released. According to them, they are using the default Android 'shell' - which is a shame, because their Linux phone had one of the awesomest shells I've seen in a while. I don't think they really understood me correctly, but it seemed they were saying that for these phones you can get apps to run as root without jailbreaking by getting it certified by them (or something.. wasn't really clear).
There were also some Androids coming out under the General Mobile label, but not necessarily those I mentioned above
And no, we're not palming those models (but perhaps we will? ) but we are sure to do some clubhopping here. It's Barcelona, after all! In fact I just got back from a club
EDIT: Also, at SPB's booth we were shown SPB Shell 3.0 (after being persistent), dont have any pics or vids of that. But it's pretty darn cool. I'm going to buy it when it's out, most likely, beats the crap out of TF3D.

What is the deal with WM7?

I have heard so many bad things about WM7, that I just have to ask someone to confirm this!
The things I have heard are:
1. No copy/paste (Even Iphone has that now!)
2. The apps we have now for WM 6.X cant be used in WM7
3. Most apps for WM7 will be web based (What if you cant afford an unlimited data plan or you are somewhere where you cant get coverage?)
It sounds to me like they have taken all the bad things from the iPhone and implemented into wm7!
Why would anyone want to cripple an OS like that?
Please tell me if I have misunderstood all of this, or if it´s true?
1) i believe it's in the os but from what ive heard it's disabled in the shipping version.
2) the code itself would work, the interfaces however will not. so yes, they won't work.
3) i havent heard that.
you should be more *****ing that the iphone now has multitasking and wp7s doesnt. this is why im still using wm2003/wm5.

Wait, you are telling me that WM7 will not have multitasking either? (I have not heard that, otherwise it would be on the top of my list!)
If all of this is true then it will be more restricted then iPhone! (YAAAY, way to go microsoft!)
Guess I will be switching over to Android very soon, unless microsoft change their mind before WM7 official release!
also it will only work with .net apps faster native apps will not be available
and only place you can get apps will be ms marketplace
Ok then, can someone please explain to me why some people think that WM7 is so great?
To me it feals like we are taking a few steps back instead of forward!
I mean, for a guy like me, that loves technology and wants to be able to do everything with the device, I just feel a little bit frustrated not being able to do so anymore! What is the point in locking everything down like this?
Are the devices we buy even ours anymore, or does microsoft own them?
I am sorry, but I am so angry right now, that I cant think of anything good to say!
"can someone please explain to me why some people think that WM7 is so great?"
who are saying that?
personally every phone I had apart from 1 have been wm phones but my next phone will most likely be an android

Some of my friends thinks that it is going to be the best OS yet!
But I guess that they dont have all the facts, and that they are basing their opinions on what they have seen on the Windows 7 (PC) OS! (Which is in fact very good!)
But just as you said, Android is going to be my next phone too! I just have trouble dealing with the fact, that all my purchased apps & games wont work anymore, and that I have to start buying them all over again! (If I can find equalent stuff!)
maybe when android phone inc in processor speed later on wm6.X emulators will be a reality but not likely soon enough to help you if those apps are stuff you need often / soon

A lot of apps on android are free so at least you wont have to pay much (the most expensive app i've seen was $9.99)
I'll be upgrading to a HD2 in May, so until it dies any future upgrades (unless M$ come to their senses) will be ebayed, might as well make some money if O2 are willing to give me free useless tat.
I couldn't wait for WM7 falling more behind, so I took the plunge to Android in January. Best move too open source & I have not looked back!

dont know if this is useful to us or not....

Yea, I also don't believe this is much use to us with the Desire ROM being out. Sense 2.1, is always Sense 2.1, unless Sprint made some modifications.

HTC phones on sprint(that I know of) use EXE files to install or update a rom its an app that puts the phone in bootloader mode to flash the device. looks fishy but its legit.
Both 2.1 update for the samsung moment and HTC Hero were EXE files not .img files
I could careless about sprint. I hate them
Doesn't this ROM include 720p video recording?
If they can port this over to HD2 I might have to say good bye to my N1.

I have both and I will say Android on the HD2 would rival the NExus One nicely.
my tmobile rep said the name "supersonic" was dropped at one of his conference calls. I would wait for an Evo-like device to drop on a GSM sometime soon (T-mobile).
Come on guys...stop talking stupid crap. I've been hunting the forums trying to figure out if an android cook is coming for hd2, and all i keep seeing are you so-called 'experts' saying things like:
"why would you want android on hd2, buy such-and such"
"wait for the next GSM phone from Tmo"
Well, WHAT THE HELL MAN? Where's the pioneering spirit of the developers I know and love?? Where's the desire to rise to the challenge of porting to a WinMo phone??
There are many T Mobile customers out there who are being offered a good upgrade discount to get an HD2. Why would we all just abandon that and run off to get an unlocked whatever for $500??? Shut up on that please...
Second, no one's waiting for the next anything. What's the point of waiting? No matter what phone you get, it'll be obsolete in 12 months anyway...
SO SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE GET CRACKIN ON AN ANDROID ROM FOR HD2!!!!!!!! Many HD2 owners have already said we'll pay for it...someone will make some money...
And someone in here PLEASE put up a LINK to anything about HD2 android stuff...

Sounds like you should get started, then.

I need a new smartphone, need help to find one.

Hey all!
Not long time ago i've bought myself a kaiser, not knowing the driver issues. This phone is wayyyy too slow for me and i am going to sell it. I want to get a new one, but i just read that htc still doesn't deliver the correct drivers as with the devices with 1gHz qualcomm snapdragon processors. My friend bought a HTC HD2 and its nice and crisp with 2d, all i've noticed it runs d3d apps very slow, just like my kaiser did. I also read that it has problems with opengl games stuttering and being slow. i did not understand, does the turbo3d fix the issue, or does it just make it slightly better?
So can anyone please offer me some phones to think about?
I would really like to get a winmo 6.5 phone like hd2 or hd mini, also i wouldn't mind android but no nokia's or iphones please.
What do you think about hd mini, hd2, touch pro2? and about wildfire, desire, hero and nexus one?
I want a fully working device, not like my underperforming kaiser, i want all drivers, everything.
THANKS!

nope i do not, i want to get non-branded
bump...anyone?
I had a kaiser for 4 years, then moved to the EVO on launch day. Couldn't be happier, phone is snappy as all hell, and haven't run into missing driver issues at all - the only thing HTC dropped the ball on with the EVO is capping the frame rate at 30 fps (which causes that stuttering), but if you're rooted, you can load a custom kernel that breaks the cap. Although I'm very familiar with the drivers that were missing from the kaiser, I haven't heard about any missing drivers on the EVO - care to provide a link?
Any of the galaxy s line of phones are good too - if you're coming from a kaiser, you may like the epic for the slide-out keyboard, bit they're all pretty much the same. These also have the top of the line performance for the 3d graphics that you mentioned. The 3d graphics on the EVO are pretty good (you only run into issues with some of the more demanding 3d games), but this is really where the galaxy s phones shine.
Unless you're really tied to wm6.5, I would stay away from it - it will be completely obsolete in just a few months when version 7 comes out. Unlike previous versions of wm, 7 won't be backwards compatible, so pretty soon there won't be any compatible apps for any wm6.5 devices. I would also say that any slowness or lagging that you saw on the hd2 was more than likely caused by wm, and not the chip. Give Android a shot - you won't be sorry. And stay away from the hero too, its not going to be upgraded anymire either - in fact you may want to stay away from any device without a 1ghz chip.

well i don't really like the looks of evo, what about desire? it runs droid 2.1, has a 1gHz processor, what do you think about it? What about hd2? i read somewhere that it has a 100% working port of android (1.6 i think, and i guess it will get an update to 2.2) also has a 1 gHz processor.
Anyways, i know hd2 supports multitouch, but i couldn't find anywhere if the desire does.
Now about galaxy S... i have bad memories about my samsung phones, its the only phone manufacturer i cant stand.
i guess its either hd2 (because i think its the best of the current models with wm) and some android model like desire or nexus one that has 1gHz processor.
i like the desire im actually thinking about picking one up real soon.
I have a desire. It's alright but its not brilliant. I got it because the carrier didn't offer a hd2. Android is very, very, very irritating. If you think it's linux - beware, it has nothing to do with it. I flashed a dozen roms, radios, rooted it, partitioned sd card. It either kills the sdcard or gets a huge memory leak. And it is not working properly. It is just not a market grade mobile os. It's for kids, women and enthusiasts. On top of that the xda section which deals with the desire is not very friendly.
Htc is about productivity, they were never about 3d graphics.
I don't play games but I would suggest you get HD2 or desire. The other htc models you mentioned are much slower, or think about a samsung, I don't like them but I hear the graphics are better

It's a bit hard, if you are used to winmo, you'll sure be irritated by the desire. Otherwise htc gave android some life, but expect difficulties. If you want winmo, you should probably wait for a mo7 device. I'm sure they will port it to the hd2 but it's not the same as the original device. That's why I got the desire. I will wait for several months after the mo7 launch and if it is any good I'll go for it. The desire is ok but it's just not what android fans claim it to be
Get a Galaxy S or a Nexus One, both amaaaaaaaaaaazing phones. Samsung got it right with the Galaxy S
And get away from Windows Mobile. I come from a Touch Pro 2 and it is a terrible, laggy OS. Android 2.1+ is where it's at
An HD2 (with Android running) or an Evo could be another option. The Desire is a slower phone than all of the other phones I've mentioned here.

i can deal with android, i use linux on my pc so i don't think it will be a problem. Anyways, you think winmo7 will be ported to hd2? the thing is that it will probably locked down like that dam iphone, i want something that i can easily transfer music, videos and photos. Is it worth buying an hd2 and maybe use the port of android to it so i would still have winmo and android? i heard some builds are 100% compatible and working on hd2, like from nexus and desire, so maybe hd2 is a better option?
Though, i know that it has some weird problems with open gl. I know there is an app called turbo3d, can anyone tell me does it fix the problem completely or is it just something that makes it slightly better? if so, im getting an hd2. whaddayathink?
anyways i will round it up, i don't want a n1 phone, its either hd2 or desire becouse i like sense more than that stock bs that comes with n1 (i know there are ports of desire's rom to n1, but do they work just as good on the n1 as they do on the desire?).

Well I had a touch pro with the soft ported from diamond2/pro2/hd2, then I got a diamond2. It was twice as fast with the same software and they were both winmo6,5 and both the infamous msm7xxx chipset. If you have this in mind you will easily conclude that the android port on HD2 will be pretty much a joke.
The nexus one is a bad joke. I don't intend to discuss samsung at all. The google software which is on the desire is again a bad joke, for example the gmail app crashes on the stock rom. What makes the desire a nice phone is the htc software inside, which is borrowed from winmo.
Don't mistake android with linux. I used linux before win7 came out. From my perspective linux is you. You can make it do whatever the hell you want. It can look the way you want. Android has nothing to do with linux. I rooted mine and if you think you can edit xorg.conf (doesn't exist anyway) or make the trackpad do whatever you want or customise it in the way you did with kde/gnome and compiz, just forget about it. It is just something which borrowed the name linux.
I'm not sure about the mo7 port but there are some brilliant guys in the mo section therefore it is a possibility.
You will be able to transfer stuff easily on the desire. With the apps, you won't get many because there is not enough space (for 10+). Yeahh they will say about apps to sd but what, either you transfer half the app, or you partition the sdcard and then it gets corrupted in 2 days which is sad if you don't have backup.
At the end you might be slightly better off with the desire as we don't know what is going on with mo7 and by the time it arrives the hd2 will be obsolete. The desire is a recent model so it will be ok for a year I guess

Maybe i should wait til wm7 is released, then maybe htc will release a new android phone that probably will have better software than n1 or desire, or maybe i will even buy something with wm7. OR MAYBE I SHOULD JUST BUY A FREAKING ASUS P535 that i used to have, witch worked without problems, all the apps worked fine, 3d was a blessing from the god itself. Damn the stupid qualcomm. I am actually very afraid of buying again from HTC. I had such high hopes for the kaiser when i bought it and i am afraid of buying some piece of **** again so im researching all the dirt i can find on the best smartphones.
Thanks freakzone for your time on helping me, i really appreciate it.
edit: i actually thought about customization of android like ubuntu. just imagine a 3d desktop cube on a tiny screen like that
No cube here. The desire is quite fast, but I don't use 3d. Android is alright, I only installed several apps like file browser and satnav, it just is not the magic stuff everyone claims it to be. Why don't you go to a store and play with it for a while, thats what I do. If you like it get it

i guess its either hd2 or desire for me, will go and play with those later today and see witch is better for me. I am so nostalgic about the good old times 2 years ago, having a p535 from asus was the best thing ever, it did everything i wanted it to do, it was fast and very rarely i had to restart it. I think i am going to get the hd2, even though i would like a hardware joypad but i think i can live with touch I'm just too sad that everything these days looks like a bloody iphone: nokias, htc's,samsungs, everything... i just can't stand it! i miss the good old days of wm with a square profiled pda with good, strong hw buttons and wm5
i had a samsung moment until it bricked when i tried to root it and now i got an htc hero love it

I have no idea how you think Android isn't "market grade"
Especially with sense, it's the best thing out there. You can't think the nearly 8-year-old WinMo 6 is BETTER can you? The HD2 hardly has ANY games on it, Android has few. iPhone is the only really good mobile phone gaming platform, but I'm betting on Android catching up.
The best phone you can get is definitely a Nexus One. If not, get a Desire (or equivalent Incredible) or the Samsung Galaxy S.

I agree with Android being market grade, but disagree with the general hate fir WinMo i've seen in this thread.WinMo is a dinosaur, but dinosaurs are still big and powerful creatures.
I personally don't like suggesting the N1 because of the problems i've heard of with the soft keys being hard to hit. And (not a very big deal) it only registers two points of contact iirc. My thing is if im going to pay money, i want the best, not something that is that limited.
I like the desire though. I wish more phones would have actual buttons. Between the Desire and the HD2, id get the Desire.
And i doubt the OP has issues with WinMo if he's been using it for years and us considering getting another WinMo phone.

[Q] Crowd-funded QWERTY device

I've been pondering this for a while.
I'm still on my HTC Desire Z (or G2) and the one reason that keeps me from upgrading is the keyboard. I own a Nexus 7 and I've played around with the new phones and they're awesome, but the typing experience of a physical QWERTY keyboard is still simply unmatched.
I still dream of having a device with a
Full QWERTY keyboard with Z-mechanism like on the HTC I currently have
4.2" full-HD display
At least 2GB of RAM
Quad-core processor
High capacity battery
Good cameras
Full root access from factory & vanilla Android
There are a ton of cool pieces of hardware on crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and IndieGogo. I wonder how much it would cost to be able to manufacture a similar phone, with modern specs. With the right people behind it, I believe it could be a success.
I mean, these guys managed to gather 12 million:

No comments? I guess I'm the only one who's waiting for one of these devices then...

Hahahaha, This is the ultimate device for some. But if this would be crowfunded. You will have alot of issues. (believe me you will)
Who's gonna manufacture it?
Who's gonna provide the software? (okay we are on a developers site but still )
Who's gonna be there for support?
etc.
We all want this kind of device. I only dont see it happening. But it ever is gonna exist. You have my support

Well, hey. Someone's gotta do it, and you have to start somewhere. Everything starts with an idea. I'm just throwing something random in the air here to see what others have to say about it.
I don't have the knowledge personally to get from start to finish, but there are plenty of people out there who do. I have no idea what it would cost, for starters, and how hard it is to get all the legal things figured out. And who knows, maybe there are agreements to be made with manufacturers.
