Process's info - HTC Vox

Ok i was searching a bit about the windows mobile processes and i found this maybe someone could find usefull:
NK.exe - this is the kernel, killing it obviously kills the OS
filesys.exe - this is the file system - again, you can't kill it and keep
running
device.exe - this is the driver manager process
shell32.exe - this is the OS shell
gwes.exe - this is the Graphics, Windows and Events Subsystem. It's
required
services.exe - this is the services host
connmgr.exe - connection manager. you probably need it for comms
repllog.exe - ActiveSync
ConManClient2.exe - The Studio debugger proxy
i also need to know if someone has been interested if u know what these proc do?
rapiclnt, sapssettings.exe
in a thread here i found out that by killing sapssettings.exe made some bluetooth fix?!?!
Just trying to free my ram. thx!

Go to your start menu and probably in the expert menu you will find sap-settings. It's for remote-bt-sim-access!

thx u are really helpfull!
so i guess it doesn't need to be at the startup..
anyideas for rapiclnt?
or udp2tcp?

Well udp2tcp sounds like some Internet protocol translator, you know from udp to tcp, like on private wifi networks where udp is active...
rapiclnt looks like it's some active sync process, since it always appears on google with problems with active sync.

YOU ARE THE MAN!
i will try some thing's and let you know if i find something interesting...

Can we make a definitive reference for Bluetooth COM ports?!

Many people seem to be having problems using a Bluetooth GPS with nav software on a Pocket PC. I have had a few issues and trawled the net looking for answers and there seems to be a lack of reference information on this. This forum is probably the best hope of getting a definitive reference document compiled.
My XDA Pro (Universal) did not have the GPS Settings control panel installed in Settings/Connections until I edited the registry to make it visible. Why was it not enabled originally? Does it not work?
What does GPS Settings actually do? (My premise is that it virtualises the GPS Com port is that right?)
I have set up my BT GPS to be on COM8 by adding a new Outgoing Port. Using GPS Settings-
in the Programs Tab set "Program Port:" to be COM1:
in the Hardware tab set "Hardware portP" to be COM8: (why no 38400 baud rate setting??)
Is it safe to assume that any program that wants to use the GPS should connect to the virtual port COM1: or the actual port COM8:?
From a software perspective when trying to configure a program to connect to a GPS invariably the software will offer a list of COM ports to use e.g......
VisualGPSce (a free GPS monitoring tool from www.visualgps.net) offers a set of COM ports and SER01-SER32. If I connect this to SER08: it works fine but when I look at the settings again it has changed them to COM1: - Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial_dbg. (I assume this is the affect of using the GPS Settings above). Interestingly if I choose an invalid port then choose COM1: it fails to connect until I select SER08: again!!
Fugawi offers COM1: - COM8: but only works when I select COM8: Is this 'not playing the game' because it is talking to the real port and not the 'virtual one'?
A friend has Pocket Nav (Memory Map) which only offers a set of COM ports COM1,2,3,6,7,9 (all of which are named with the kind of device except 7) and none of them work. Is this software only offering COM ports that it believes to be active? It also seems to be not playing the virtual port game (If my premise above is correct). Why doesn't it see the GPS on COM8:?
Sorry for the long posts - lots of questions, a few suppositions and not many answers from me. I just hope the gurus who frequent this forum can provide some good technical answers which will benefit many frustrated (both by things not working but also through lack of techincal reference documentation) people.
Thanks
Clive
hi i'm experiencing the same problem, did you solve it ?
I can't find a useful COM port to connect to my java application using a Qtek 9000 with WM 5 and Creme JVM.
thank you.
I will surely spend a lot of time on this question in my forthcoming Bluetooth Bible (still don't know when to publish).
are you serious ..
or it was sarcastic ?
Yes, maybe i was not so clear writing my question, but i didn't want to write the same words clive_j wrote ...
I'm running a java application on a Qtek 9000 running Windows Mobile 5.1.1700 (build 14354.0.1.1) and using a Java Virtual Machine "Creme 4.12 for PocketPC".
While, via bluetooth manager, I'm able to connect my BTGPS (i.e. bluetooth GPS) only on COM0, or COM4, or COM8, my application can open only COM1, or COM2, or COM3, or COM6, or COM7, or COM9.
I configured GPS Settings on WM 5 just like clive_j did, and still i can't receive any data from the GPS, while VisualGPS can connect and receive data from SER08.
Did you have any idea ?
I found how to solve the problem.
don't know if menneisyys is interested.

Reboot a Pc with your PPC

Hi guys.. i'm interested something like shutdown -i command on the pc.
Something of small & pratic. If someone have an hint... i exclude those administrative tools who runs on the pc and give it access via a web interface.
just be able to send reboot "inputs" via LAN, possibly with the funny options that are into the interface mentioned before.
If it's XP Pro, perhaps some sort MMC console for Windows Mobile...but if not, it's not possible without third party apps on the PC.
Yeah, it's not possible without PC-side support - unless, of course, you plan to write a virus. (See for example the buffer overflow virus some 12 months ago. Can't recall its name.)
If you DO accept this, there're several solutions; some of them I've elaborated on in the Remote Desktop Access Bible here at the XDA-Dev forums.
.... very strange.. i have tried some apps with pc-side support, it's strange that NOONE has thought that, perhaps shutdown.exe already has a "server side app" in WXP PRO (that i have).
I will search and search... something goes out!
I use terminal services to logon to a system, after which you can simply use psshutdown via a console to reboot, shutdown, hibernate etc your system.
psshutdown is freely available at microsoft.com
BTw, my related article is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 - make sure you read it.

Commissioning a Custom ROM

Hello all. I have looked through all of the ROM Reviews (very detailed!, thank you) and I don't see a perfect one for me.
You see most of the cool tweaks are not needed. I am developing a Wing for a client to run a custom VB.NET Compact Framework app, so I don't need most things on the phone.
Examples of what I don't need:
- the phone dialer
- bluetooth
- media player
- sms or mms
- adobe reader
- games
- most other baloney stuff they send on it.
I need:
- .net cf
- sql ce
- comm mgr for wifi and cell
- battery meter
- file mgr
- internet explorer (through file mgr)
- the basics
Is this something anyone is interested in helping with? I could create a job in odesk to pay for it. (My budget is rather small)
Thanks all.
This shouldn't be too complicated to accomplish. ^_^ The only problem is that my laptop is currently out of commission... but I would be glad to create one using my desktop.
Great! What is the best way to communicate my needs? Should I start with JustStable and list what to add/remove? Or can I start with the OEM system and list what to add/remove?

Either way. Just PM me or PM me for my AIM contact info.
Is this going to be the test ROM or the ROM that your client will run? (That will be what decides what we should start with.)

[Q] Idle Timeout after 10 minutes with RDP Client

Hello everybody,
I read the rules and now I make my first thread in this forums. First of all: Hello. Yes I have any problems with our windows mobile devices.
We have more then 10 wlan scanner from intermec (ck3n1), that are needed to be connected to our terminal server with wlan. They run with Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic. Everything works, but when the device is not beeing used for 10 minutes the rdp session disconnects with a message: "Session timed out because of idle timeout settings, that are set by administrator or network policies".
I am the administrator and I checked everything at our Terminal Server (running Server 2003 Standard) and the domain policies. I really tried everything (included changing registry entries). But: Nothing worked for me.
Then I tried to contact INTERMEC, where somebody told me, that the idle timeout is HARDCODED in the RDP-Client of the device.
I installed an alternative like zaDesktop, but there I got a lot of errors and the touch screen doesn't work good. Have anyone an idea to solve my problem?
Kind Regards
Raphael
The forgotten thread. ;-(
You might get more people looking at your thread if you put a title on it. I don't really know a lot of stuff, just a few specialty things so when I look at the question forum I browse for titles that are on topics I know something about.
I know very little about your program, but I wonder if doing something like a periodic ping to the server in question would constitute "activity" and would therefore extend your session.
I would guess that there is a program out there somewhere that could run in the background and just send a ping every 8 minutes or something like that.
Hello,
yes I forgot the Title. Perhaps any admin can change it to something better then an emtpy title.
I tried to do a ping in the rdp-session. But it mades the same idle timeout error. I thought I will find someone, who knows a lot about RDP clients. I could need general help.
Kind Regards
Raphael

[app] Phoenix Mysql Client V2.0

hello all,
recently 2 - 3 days ago, i have re-developed the application
and uploaded the update on the market.
basically its a Mysql Client,
DIRECTLY, allows you to connect to a Mysql server, and perform sql quires, insert, delete, select,... and list the tables, views and sprocs.
with the great result viewer (grid) you can view results in stylish way.
Change log
** Enhanced securing the stored connection info (better encryption)
** Data can't be decrypted except on the very same device.
** Added new permission (get phone state and identity) needed for the point above!
1- Save old connections with better management (no duplications now, long press to delete).
2- Enhanced the resultset viewer USER CAN DELETE ROW NOW! (delete button added).
3- Better exceptions handling (i hope).
4- Better connection handling and stability (i hope).

HI
When I enter the details for a connection and then try to "connect" a popup saying "Please wait..... Connecting..." is displayed forever. I´m quite sure that the connect information is correct because I receive an error message otherwise. Problems are:
1. I cannot connect to my mySQL server.
2. I cannot cancel the connect or even the app. I have to got to the apps overview and "kill" the app.
I´m using a Motorola Xoom (Wifi only, MZ604) with Android 3.2 and the mySQL server is on a virtual server (vServer) located at some remote site.
Would be great if that could be fixed some day...
Greetings from Germany.

hello,
the connection dialog has a timeout 30 seconds, so if you wait 30 seconds it will stop trying to connect,
but i think i have to make that dialog "cancelable" so you can hit back and cancel connection (good to keep that option to.).
on the other hand .. make sure you have enabled remote connect to your mysql server, and add/allow the IP you are trying to connect from, so the mysql server allow it.
thank you.
Ok, but...

Thanx for the quick response. Here are my answers to your points:
1. I have been waiting VERY much longer than 30 seconds (several minutes), but the connection dialog never stopped.
2. I have allowed connections to my mySQL server from ALL hosts (%), so there is no need to allow access on an IP address basis. The IP address is unknown anyway when I´m using a mobile device, or is it? Anyway, it would be impracticable to add the dynamically provided IP address to the mySQL server configuration every time - especially when you have no access to the mySQL server since the client cannot connect...
(I have tried another mySQL client for Android, but this thing crashes everytime it tries to connect to the mySQL server...)
Tell me if I can be of any help in the investigation of this connection problem. I´d really like to use your app to manage my server with my tablet.
Regards
Emmi

yes using % will allow all,
but its not secure.. anyway in a case of dynamic IP it can be used.
-side note- you can find your current real IP if you visit http://www.whatismyip.com/
from your mobile browser.
*** regarding the application:
- are you capable to login using a desktop client, like Navicat or MysqlTools?
- if you can get a logcat from your device while trying to connect that would be great, i think it will be useful,
-one more thing is if u can try it from a mobile not a tablet, since supporting tablets was added recently and i could not test it ( no tablets around ).
** one last thing:
if all that did not work, you may create a user with very simple privileges,
and pass me (private message) the login info (ip, username, password), and i will try to connect with the app using my hTC Desire.
Thanks & best regards.
I can login and access the server using Navicat.
Do you know an app to get a logcat?
Unfortunately I have no Android phone available.
I´ll send you login info via pm.
I´ve found the follwoing errors in logcat (using catlog ;-)):
01-16 22:18:46.530 E/dalvikvm(4300): Could not find class 'javax.naming.StringRefAddr', referenced from method com.mysql.jdbc.ConnectionPropertiesImpl$ConnectionProperty.storeTo

i've tried and i confirm the application waas not able to connect to ur server.
also i found that error log, when i try to connect only to ur server..
i think its related to host name converted to an IP address reference ...
it looks to be a bug in the driver i am using (i've googled it)
i am working on a fix or workaround for now ...
thanks again.
how is it done...
hi stinger1..
i recently starting using your pheonix my sql client ...
my question is how does your app connect to the mysql server...
is there a middleware web service that connects to the database or
does the app directly connect to the database...if yes..how ?...
i mean using what....
how did you use the jdbc drivers...
