Not finding internal GPS - whats that? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Just bought my TP and Destinator wont find the GPS.
I go to Extra -> GPS Signal and Find, it keeps looking for some minutes and then "No GPS found" or something like that.
In google maps when I enable "Use GPS" it keeps "Searching for GPS Satellites (0)"
Any ideas why is that?
Already tried hardreset and still the same
rom version: 1.90.405.1 wwe

any ideas?

thanks for that...
can I flash a radio of any operators in my TP?
That Cingular 1.02.25.31 is the "newest"?
All I have to do is download the RUU and NBH, put them in same folder and run?
I already have HardSPL
thankyou again!

The last. With the ROMeOS 1.12 navigon finds no gps at all. I have this problem only with this rom.

I had the same issue and it was resolved with the latest cingular radio, before I even flashed a custom rom.
Simply put the custom RUU with the .nbh file in the same folder and run it. Follow the instructions and in a few minutes it will be done. Make sure you have HardSPL, but as you have flashed a custom rom, it means you are good to go. Good luck

Thank you, I will try that.

Updated to Cingular Radio 1.02.25.31 and problem persists, any ideas why?
Destinators says "GPS não encontrado" in portuguese which means "GPS not found"
Is there a chance that my TP has the GPS chip broken or something like that?
Have you ever heard something like that?

If you use the stockrom than it should be working.
Did you try to use a manual configuration for the gps ?
select comport 4.

I got the this problem originally in the stock ROM and original radio version
I've never seen GPS working in my TP, I got it 2 days ago
then I tried upgrading ROM and radio to solve and problem persists..
where do I manually configure the GPS? Or do you mean inside Destinator? There I already tried all COM ports (1-7)

I assume that you are OUTSIDE when trying to get a satilite lock? First fix can take 10mins in clear open space.
Appologies - ignore my statment - i've just re-read the title of this thread - sorry!

yeah its not a problem about lock, its about not finding the internal GPS device
at least is what destinator says...
in google maps when I try "Use GPS" it keeps "Searching for GPS satellites (0)"
Already tried outdoors, and I here in my room with window opened my Omnia gets lock in about 15 seconds with cold start
I just flashed DCS v15 ROM and no changes.. also tried flashing Cingular 1.02.25.27 instead of 1.02.25.31 and same problem

I also have the same problem. iGo won't find the GPS, neither will Google Maps. I'm using a DCS ROM. I'm about to try the radio flash suggestion but as I'm not convinced the GPS chip is controlled by the radio I'm not sure what effect this will have.

The DCS v1.5 rom is another fine rom, and the gps should work without problems.
I have the same rom with radio 25.19 and have no problems with navigon or google map, they work perfect.
Try to use another software aplication where you can see the gps situation.
So you are really sure that Destinator is not the problem, because you can't see the GPS situation in GoogleMap.
If another app also can't find any gps device, than, I think, you have a hardware problem

GPS not working = WM 6.1 or radio ??

My TYTN II has been flashed to Dutty WM 6.1 & Radio 1.64, but I can't get my GPS working.
Previous ROM was Schap 4.30 & Radio 1.27, with those my GPS working fine.
I wonder wheter it's WM 6.1 bug or Radio for WM 6.1 bug.
I've tried GPS Tool & it's said invalid GPS data.
I live in Indonesia, SE Asia.
Anyone has same problem ??
Read before posting issues. First of all you need a compatiable radio for 6.1 which is listed dutty's post. First install the radio then hard reset then install dutty's rom then hard reset. All the problem will be solved.

From what I can see, he is using a 6.1 radio.
1.64.06.04
1.64.08.21
Are both 6.1 Radios. I'm not sure what the issue is, but I don't think its the radio. What options are you using in GPS Tool? And did you try running QuickGPS first?
Heres the quoted instructions from Dutty's 6.1 thread:
duttythroy said:
To make sure you properly get a GPS signal. First run Quick GPS.
Start > Programs > System Tool > QuickGPS
Hit download and when it’s done it ok
Now run GPS Tool
Start > Programs > System Tools > GPSTool
Click Open and then click start.
Click on the Satellite tab and wait till the bars turn green once this happens you will have a GPS fix.
*You can also verify the this by clicking the information tab and wait till you have a Latitude and Longitude fix:
Now you can use your GPS software.

I thought 6.1 won't run on a 1.27.xx.xx Radio, or at least thats what I was lead to believe when reading through the threads (could be wrong), or are they backwards compatible but not forwards compatible?(i.e. 6.0 on a 1.64 radio). *shrug*
I agree with Netrunner though and just try one of the Polaris Radios, which is what I plan on doing when I get home because of the reported successes people have been having. Not sure why you're getting invalid GPS data, what settings are you using in GPS Tool and what other apps do you have running?

i'm using Duttys WM6.1 5.2.19716
Radio 1.58.26.20
GPSTest keep saying GPS Starting up and GPSTool saying Fix not available.
I'm in Brasil.
Will try to get another radio.
Is it important to update the radio before the rom?
[]'s
I found its good updating radio then flash the rom. Lots of problem get fixed.
Go to settings, connections, External GPS Settings, go to Hardware, choose COM4, Baud rate 57600, then go to Programs, choose your preferred GPS program port (I used COM1), click OK.
Run GPS tools, try open COM1, see if it will work.
This is only a temperary solution, for some reason the COM port in the hardware tab will be automatically reset to (none). I still don't know how to make it stay that way. Anybody can help?

Me, too. But after i flashed the radio with polaris 1.58.21.23 one, now the gps is perfect. Try it!
Yeah, interesting. My GPS also doesnt' work properly with 6.1 ROMs. Tried the 1.64's and de Polaris one, they take waaay too long to get a fix, even if there are many satellites available. Will try to flash a radio first then flashing a ROM, as stated in a few post above.
I've tried Radio 1.64.06 & 1.64.08, but GPS still not working.
Radio 1.27 & WM 6.1 will give me No Sounds at all.
I've hard reset after each flashing, run Quick GPS to download data, but still no go.
Will try : Radio 1.58 & changing COM port.
Just came across this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1912053&postcount=410
Maybe QuickGPS is not getting the Regional Settings properly and we have to manually adjust it.
It would also explain why some people doesn't have this issue, maybe the 'default' QuickGPS contains specific information to their region, like places "near" the Greenwich meridian, and obviously on the Nothern Hemisphere. At least I suppose that's what it[QuickGPS] does, update some data that help the GPS receive the ephemeris.
Since I live in South America, it would take a little longer for my GPS to get a fix if he thinks he is somewhere in Europe.

That makes a lot of sense.
I just flashed Dutty's 6.1 with the 1.58 Radio.
At first I thought the GPS was not working ... it took endless minutes before it finally got a fix.
I did see lots of red "satellites" on the GPSTool - Satellite tab.
Just took forever the first time to get a fix.
how i fixed my gps
I have the tilt plus Sleuth 3 (WM6.1). My gps did not work (couldn't find any satellites) with the WM6.1 compatible radio .23, so I decided to try another radio. Alltheway uses .14 and has an Oakland Raiders avatar so I figured since I am in the SF Bay I should try that one first. Bingo, problem solved. Short of it is, just try all the radios to exclude the simplest solution first. There are only 5 or so. I love this site.....its seriously impeding my productivity.
mine ok. but little bit slow to get fix. try use gpsgate.
Cooked ROM based on Vodafone WM 6.1 ROM will take forever to get a GPS fix regardless of the Radio. The only way to get it to work quicker is to run QuickGPS and download the newest data everytime you run your GPS.
Cooked ROM based on the older HTC WM 6.1 ROM is better i getting a GPS fix. At least that is the case for me.
After virtually a whole day re flashing ROMS I think I have now reached a definitive answer to this problem of dodgy GPS performance. I have had the same issues myself getting reliable and quick satellite fixes for my GPS enabled programs. Usually having to resort to launching GPSTools in order for a fix to be established. No more. After reading that re flashing the ROMs could be the answer I backed up the main memory using Sprite Backup, HARD RESET my device then re flashed Radio v1.64.08.21. I then HARD RESET and re flashed Dutty's WM6.1 UC version ROM. As soon as the configuration message appeared I HARD RESET again. I then reinstalled my backup and ran QuickGPS. My GPS performance was faultless Not satisfied with this I did the whole procedure again but this time I tried the Polaris Radio v1.58.21.23 as I had been reading some good reports about it but when I came to test my GPS I couldn't get a fix. I then went through the whole process again using Polaris radio v1.58.25.14. Again this has been reported as having a low battery drain and good reception. The GPS again worked flawlessly.
So there you have it, get backing up, HARD RESETTING, re flashing the radio (v1.58.25.14 or v1.64.08.21), HARD RESETTING, re flashing the main ROM, HARD RESETTING then re reinstalling the backup image.
Let me know how you got on!

[SOLVED] GPS Dead - Can't figure out why

SOLVED - I ended up flashing to the 1.64.08.21 Radio, then Dutty's Latest. Now GPS works. WEIRD!!!!
Hello,
Back story: I'm running Q-Mobile 1.2, all is well, GPS works fine because I used it all the time. Then I had family in town, took some photos using the GPS photo option, didn't work. I filled it away under the curious and just got around to testing.
GPS Test now can't find my device, keeps reading "Searching for GPS Device", HTC GPS Testing tool just stares blankly at me like I have the answers.
Live search GPS doesn't work.
Google Maps GPS doesn't work.
What I've done to try and fix:
I reflashed the 1.27.14.09 radio... didn't change anything.
I reflashed the entire Q-Mobile Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Dutty's new WM 6.1 Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Alex's ROM... didn't change anything.
Tried the "new" AT&T Rom from the HTC site... didn't change anything.
I'm back to Q-Mobile, still doesn't work.
There is no reason why the GPS should not be working, the phone hasn't been physically damaged in anyway, everything else works fine.
I'm at my wits end, I need some outside help/guidance. Can ANYONE please help? Everything I've searched for and come up with so far hasn't worked.
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
thats funny, because my GPS has been randomly working and not working these past few days....2 days ago it wouldnt pick up a signal at all, yesterday very strong signals, today, dead again......not sure whats wrong...
This is strange.... because a friend just lost his GPS also. He's using a 6.0 based ROM with various radios tested.
He's using a Tilt varient.
Could this be some sort of AT&T issue?
(I run the same ROM as him -I flashed it myself- and am also on AT&T with no problems.... yet)
GPS seems to be location dependent.
But here's my thought : if you want to use WM 6.0 then flash to Radio 1.27.
For WM 6.1 then flash to Radio 1.58.
Don't forget to change the Quick GPS Region in registry & then run it.
Hope that can help.

my region is set to US in the registry.....not sure that its the problem, because it worked perfectly fine w/ these settings before...
Yeah, my GPS as well. At first i worked perfectly. I used Google map and locate me, I show the exact position where I was. Then yesterday and today, my point have been moved further where I'm. And then I tried TOMTOM, and the performance is kinda slowe than before.
I'm using Radio 1.64.08.21, and UDK-7 R2
okay so i just went out to test it again, and ran GPS tool at 4800. I let it go for 2-3 minutes and eventually, it found a fix on about 12 satallites. after that, tom tom locked my location really fast, like a charm.....
give that a try.....if you just flashed, initial gps fix might take some time...
Alright, I'm going to try Dutty's latest again, only this time w/ the 1.64.08.21 radio... I'll see if that matters. I'll post when done.
UPDATE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365058
I installed the ROM on this thread as a test. ROM sucks bizzalls, but GPS Test if finally working! I'm going to flash Dutty's latest overtop, it should keep the radio but put his ROM down. More to follow.

Please post the registry string that changes the demobraphics to the US. Thanks.
Do we have a listing of these location codes as the US is a big place and it might have more than 1 code depending on location.
Can people post what they have in the registry of:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
The value of :
"region"="--"
I tried GB in mine (United kingdom) as another user (Dutch had reported using NL in theirs and GB is our equivalent. It definately seemed to lock faster.
I am using Dutty's latest rom and the region was Blank in after the flash, hard reset and setup.
Does the quick gps download different data depending on region or does it download all of them but start the search based on which should be the closest satellites based on the location setting in the registry. I presume once it has gained its locks it remembers for next time. (I think this remembered data is valid for 4 hours).
There are only about 28 satellites in total and up to a maximum of eight to eleven depending on time a(s the satellites are not geostationary) being visible at one time
Regards
Chapelhill
I used Dutty's WM6.1, ran QuickGPS then got a fix (took very long the first time) ... now my registry says Region=US
I noticed that there is another key that might be of interest:
curRegion = 0 (00000000)
Could this be current Region?
I've changed the region in the registry from "--" to "SE" (Sweden), but the string won't stay put. After a reboot and running QuickGPS, it goes back to "--". I've tried waiting a couple of hours after editing and holding the power button to shut down, but it doesn't help. I made a little MortScript and added it to startup:
Code:
While (1)
WaitFor ("QuickGPS", -1)
If NOT regKeyEqualsString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
RegWriteString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
EndIf
Sleep (10000)
EndWhile
This works and keeps the "SE"-setting, but having the script running constantly isn't exactly optimal as it uses processing power (around 4% currently) and thus adding to battery-drain. Anyone have any ideas on a different way of making the script, which is more effective/power-saving? Or is there an even better way to make the registry key stick?
I am having some GPS issues as well but not as bad as GPS not working. Two problems have been bugging me: Getting a slow GPS fix and my location seems offset. I am using CoPilot Live 7 for my navigation software. It shows me a little bit 'off' from my current location. I am using 1.58.26.20 radio. Should I change my radio? Do I have to change the radio first and then reflash Dutty again?

[Fixed] GPS com port

Hi folks !
I have a strange issue with my T7272. I have just installed Igo 2008 the last edition, beeline gps and GPS info to look after my GPS com port but nothing !
I tried to use google map but nothing at all ! I can try each port it's always the same problem, no gps detected...
I succeeded one time in updating through quickgps but since many days I can't anymore. It seems to dowload data and at 100% it says "Connection failed, try later" or in french "Echec de la connection. Veuillez essayer plus tard".
It won't work even with activesync.
I had the External GPS windows stuff enabled on com 4 with hardware port at "none" and 4800 for the speed. Enabled or disabled, it changes nothing.
What's your port conf ? Maybe mine wasn't well configured by HTC ?!
ROM 1.90.406.5 FRE
Date : 08/20/08
Radio Version : 1.02.25.19
protocol V: 52.33.25.17U
Try to start Beeline and Autodetect GPS...
As you can see,the internal GPS is connected to COM4,same as your external set. Maybe there is a conflict.
Yeah that's the point neither beeline nor igo can find the right port. It seems that you're using microsoft gps adapter. What's your hardware conf ?
I've also read that windows sip cab could interfer with the gps. I've tried to uninstall it but still nothing.
For the moment I'm using my old bluetooth gps receiver, it works great but I'm worried about my raphael internal receiver...
No one have had such problems?
When I first bought my TP, I had the same issue. After upgradind the radio and to a custom rom, I have never had the same problem again.

Interesting ! What's your rom version? I thought having the latest one.
No one tried to use his gps directly, without the "external GPS" adapter? then is it always com4?
My Rom was 1.90. and my radio was 1.02.25.19. I have upgraded to radio 1.02.25.19 and I have tried 5-6 custom roms ever since with no problems.
I think that my drivers are dead or for some reason there is a conflict or a bug in the registry. I'll backup all my stuff and make a hard reset...
Maybe I won't have to send my touch pro to HTC...
Wait and see !

No GPS after firmware update

Hi,
I recently installed the new official HTC Firmware Upgrade on my Touch Pro.
ROM: 5.05.405.1 WWE
ROM Date: 01/22/09
Radio: 1.11.25.01
After installing, i cannot seem to get a GPS fix, have been trying for last 4 hours. I did all the usual, ran the Quick GPS etc. My external TomTom receiver works fine and TomTom then runs ok on the Touch Pro.
GPS set to COM4 as before
Has anyone else had any problems since upgrading to the new firmware?
Thanks
The fix problem might be temporary. Try again tomorrow at different position
Hi Darfri,
Funny enough, i tried this morning and got a fix in about 20 seconds! So could well have been just a temp thing.
I did uninstall GPSED in between, i'm sure that was not the contributing factor, will reinstall it and try the GPS again on the way home.
M
me too
did u mean the htc's website ROM upgrade?
i did it too, and my GPS is not running, i tried it saturday and did not get sucess, i am trying today again and the same problem is ocurring, i would need my GPS working, i use IGO8, the raphael locates the GPS signal, but on the map it doesnt work
does anybody know the soluction?
Yes, i do mean the HTC website ROM.
I tried again on the way back from work after reinstalling GPSED, it is still working. No idea why it refused on the Sunday.
Try obtaining a fix in an open area for a start, once it gets its first fix after the upgrade, subsequent ones should be easier.

Now I'm trying to get a GPS fix with Google Maps or HTC GPS Tool, but both does not work.

Same problem here, flashed 5 days ago, intermitent gps signal (like a pulse fix / no fix) or none at all. Even try with different radios (Radio 1.02.25.32 / 1.02.25.28) and the baud rate to 57600 in my apps.
I can't be sure is due to new ROM because I flash it on my newer Fuze and never try GPS fix before. I have to say that I own a Touch pro almost a year ago and at the same time side by side get a fix in cold 10-30 seconds and warm 2-5 seconds (with a cooked ROM from "jespi2005" Radio 1.02.25.32)
Hi,
I think I have a solution.Download the HTC GPS Tool (e.g. from here http://rs276.rapidshare.com/files/84815853/Nadavi_HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab)
-Check if you have AGPS disabled (e.g. with Advanced Config)
-Update QuickGPS
-Install HTC GPS Tool
-Run HTC GPS Tool
-Check the Correct Com Port (Settings - > External GPS)
-Set Baudrate to 57600
-Press open
-Select Cold Start from the Dropdown list
-Mark the Repeat Selectbox
-Press Nav. Init.
-Now It can take 1 or 2 hours
-Check the status via the satelit tab
If nothing works, press Close, reset your PPC, select Clear Memory from the select box, press Nav. Init. and wait about 15 Minutes and reset your PPC again. Repeat the procedure above. You can also try the other options in the drop down box. I don't know the options I used anymore, but now it works.
My problem was, that I was to impatient and thought, that anything must be broken. So try this method and I hope it works.
I found this solution in the german forum www.ppc-welt.info (direct link for all german speaking people: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=133565)

HTC Fuze GPS Help

Hey Guys,
I have been browsing the forum and I had my GPS working for awhile with google maps but now with GPStest I can't get past the gps is starting up point. I had installed ATT navigator, but then I uninstalled it. I have Quickgps updated but i'm not getting an accurate reading on google. I have it set to com4 4800 and on gps test i have it set to com4 38400. I've tried altering setting but to no avail. What should I do?

I used the com4 38400 setting for all, and that did the trick. It still takes a little while for the first fix, but then it works fine until a soft reset when you have to do it all again. Are you using stock ROM, what radio are you using? These might me part of the problem.
Yea i have it set to those setting but i never get a lock it just stays on GPS starting up and never gets past that. I have the [ROM][WWE][3.8.2009][5.2.20771 1.4.6]Just Perfect FUZE ROM[1.1 Released] flashed. I'm not familiar with radio maybe thats the problem. There is fm radio installed but i've never used it...
ROM
Windows Mobile 6.1
CE OS: 5.2.20771
Build: 20771.1.4.6
OEM ATT Raphael Rom

Talking about a different type of radio, you can find out more info here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Raphael_ExtractedRadioRoms
I highly recommend radio: 1.12.25.19 my GPS improved greatly after flashing that one. Works even better if you have the AT&T test ROM or one based off it, like NATF's 4.5
You can download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439566
Follow this great guide if you decide to flash a new radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448008
Follow steps 1, 2 (if you have not flashed HardSPL) and 5
