Stylus Locking - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Ok, something weird has been happening lately and i have no idea why. Sometimes when trying to replace my stylus, I cannot place it in there. It feels like it gets stuck. like i am jamming it in there. But most of the time is moves in and out smoothly. I have no idea how it goes back to being smooth again, wether it is time (but seems to random) or wether it is my constant in out until it works (although that just seems coincidence). no idea why it decides to lock the stylus out either

It uses a magnet to lock it in place, but it goes tits up unless you line the stylus up correctly, IE so that the raised bit is in line with the slot it is going to slide in to, you CAN'T put the stylus in most of the way and then twist it at the last moment to line it up !

no, that is not the problem...it still works fine being inserted however i want, but sometimes it jams and need to wait a bit before it lets the stylus slide smoothly. thanks anyway
it will only go a tiny bit before it 'jams'. maybe 1.5cm

I have same experience like u.
Few days ago, I typing with TP and take out stylus pen for normal use, after 2-3 mins I put it back, but I can't do it! Something "JAM" the Stylus slot!
I go back my home, find a flashlight to illuminate the stylus slot, I find something are "JAM" inside. OMG! what's up? Do I take my TP to HTC service center? Hey, I bought it just a week!
It bother me half an hour.... later, I use a small screwdriver, take it inside to the stylus slot carefully and than push down the "Jamthing" .("something" that Jam the slot, may be a parts of TP!)
OK, now problem fixed.

There is a tiny switch that is used to detect when the stylus has been removed. There is a thread on this forum describing an issue where the switch jammed and therefore was not detecting the stylus being removed. Sounds like a similar issue, but in reverse!.

yep, i think that is it, was looking at it last night and i think the switch is the problem :s

Yes smae thing happened to me, I trhinkm the switch fell out of its housing and I couldnt get the stylus back in, I must maggotted the fookin thing coz now it wont wake up when I pull out the stylus, its looking like this is fairly common.

mmm same thing apparently happened to me yesterday.
BUT: After comparing my TP with a colleagues I noticed that...I lost the whole switch-thing. Well: It has to be the very tiny little piece of plastic that fell out of my TP after I took the jammed stylus out the last time.
The switch-thing I lost acts like a kind of lever that presses the stylus switch itself. As it seems to be held by two even tinier metal springs it is quite likely to come off when the stylus is not inserted 'the right way'.
Anyway: I think my TP now permanently thinks I has no stylus.....

I just had this happen to me! I've had my Fuze a little over a month and have had no trouble at all with the stylus... it slides right in and the magnet holds it in place. Slides right out and wakes up the device when I need it.
Five minutes ago, I pulled it out for just a few seconds, but when I tried to put it in, this happened! I can get it in, but have to push it fairly hard and also pull hard to get it out.
This sucks.

Found another thread that has some possible solutions to this issue.
If you're having this problem...STOP inserting the stylus! You might break the tiny piece that senses the stylus (like I just did). Basically, take out the battery and shine a flashlite back towards the stylus opening. You should see it, and might be able to straighten it out with a toothpick.
Anyway, this thread should be closed because of this thread-

I threw my phone in a fit of rage.

I was upset, could not handle life anymore. I was at work and just threw my phone with tremendous force into the wall. Made hole in drywall but phone remained in tact. Nothing seemed broken.
I live in a 3G area but not it never displays the 3G icon, infact most of the time it displays the roaming icon. My calls are always getting dropped. The internet on the phone no longer works.
I tried to reset the phone, and did a rom update with a rom I found here. Did update successful but no luck. Then re did a rom update with the latest one from the HTC website.
Same problem persists. How can I know what component is damaged and where can I get the part to fix it?
When I had a HTC tilt, I sat on my phone and broke the screen, was able to get replacement unit and change it myself with ease.
I would like to thank you all in advanced and hope you all have a wonderful day.
Study here how to dismantle the device and what the components are
Dude, some therapy may help....got insurance, do that and get a replacement phone
having taken mine apart, if it looks like it's still in one piece, the thing that jumps immediately to mind is just that your antenna got loose. it's the only thing pretty much with an exposed connector that could pop off. (the display may be able to also, but you'd notice that =)
search for the raphael service manual, only tricky part in getting to the antenna is after you pop the back housing loose on the top 3 sides, you have to pull back the top far/hard enough that you think you're gonna break the usb port to get the housing free of it. Pull it back a bit, unplug that speaker wire, then pull it back some more, needs a gap at the top of about 2 inches to clear the bottom usb port. it'll just click and snap free. i took 30 minutes doing it cuz i thought i was gonna break it.

[Q] screen activation

1st, I'm spanish I'll try you understand what I say
I see that the tablet with the screen off (locked) can be activated without pressing the power button. Only need to put "near the dock"*
*making like you open the tablet+dock, but is not needed that the tablet was connected with the dock, I dnt know if someone else was noticed that... but I'm a bit curious about that and i want to know how its work? (magnet?, gyroscope?, magnet+gyroscope?) if someone knows it
and I say it to other people that dnt now this, THANKS
SOLVED MISTERY!
Like some says here its a magnet near the backspace key, exactly the "¿/¡" key
here is a really good cover mod idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507548 thanks to MrNago
nobody has any idea?
I think there is a switch in the hinge maybe? Seems that would be the easiest way to have the screen turn on while opening the lid while its on the dock.
I test one more time and I noticed that the system is only at the right side of the tablet and dock, like u see in this image. And its not needed any contact, but it need tablet and dock really near.
I think is a magnet system, but i havent any magnets at home to make a try...
edit: i have an error in the image, looking the camera i can see that the tablet is in the wrong side, we must see the camera down. Not at the top like in the image xD
ww.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6dKsGJ4VY
I see nothing in this disassembly to make this activation, this is curious, i want too know how it works
turning on via opening.
i tried looking using a magnetic viewer screen there are several places in the screen and in the keyboard that show magnetism, on the screen the two speakers are the main places and in the keyboard below the backspace key is quite strong as well.
i tried replicating the action using a strong magnet but i could not get it to work only when help above the keyboard does it work so there may be more then one place it looks at, i will try again when i have more time and then post results.
Interesting discovery! I don't thnk anyone actually tried this, though many speculated there were magnets in the base, many users said (and I agreed at the time) that the mechanism to wake the device was located in the hinge, though having a function like this actually does make more sense than an actual hardware switch that could fail at some point.
You should make a video and I will add this information to my epic noob thread!
thanks for replies, i tried with a small magnet without results, and try in other positions with the dock and negative results too...
I'm sure that the magnet of the backspace key its the "switch" or one of them, they are 2 maybe....
Guessing here, probably not just a magnet, maybe even an RFID chip of some sort..
Its a magnet that does this. Don't doubt. Believe. Removing the magnet and putting it back in is part of my hard drive soldering procedure.
it is a microswitch in the hinge, all experimentation I have done supports this, the only thing left for me to do is pull apart my dock and take high res pictures of the microswitch seeing as you all seem to need proof of it

Stevie, i did think so as well, but the device will wakewhen placed on the dock and removed even if it is not affixed in the hinges and even if the hinge does not move, i don't think you are getting what poster is saying, i will make a video myself and post to demonstrate.
HERE
Thereis also probably a switch in the hinge as well for sure, but this does seem important information, wonder what the mechanisms in the body of the tf are..i enjoy solid state switches like this
Oddly enough this is confirmed using Paul's ICS and my dock not connected. Totally bypassed the lockscreen. Held it as close as I could for about 5-7 seconds then on came the screen. Tried this at least 10 times (five of which I just was amazed) and everytime opened right up. Nice catch:thumbup:

You guys are right, there is some kind of magnet. For those that doubt it, like I did, try this:
First off, undock the tablet, so that you have the 2 items apart.
1. Lock the tablet, so that the screen is off.
2. On the dock, rotate the hinge outwards, so that you can put together tablet+keyboard without docking.
3. Actually put them together, so that their position is exactly the same as docked, except they aren't.
4. Screen should turn on. Mine certainly does!
Edit: as you can see, there is no connected circuitry between them and the tablet is waking up. Don't know about locking though, but I hope this gets things clearer and Modding nearer!

This is the same way to unlock that Im saying since the first post. Only need to test to know what kind/power/number of magnets or "sensor" is needed

[Q] vibrator not working

I recently dropped my phone from my lap exiting the car Everything appeared to be alright and working, until a few weeks later when my vibrate function started to give out. For a few days after it stopped working all together it would occasionally try to spin and I could still feel very weak feedback.
My question is does anyone know how easy it would be to repair this? My screen is also cracked, but directly above the genius button, which I rarely use anyway.
If I wanted to repair this would it end up costing me more than simply replacing the phone?
If I had the tools and the patience I may be able to do this myself if someone could give me a heads up on this particular phone, or any experience they may have in this situation.
If I could simply open and examine the part I may be able to see if it can be a simple fix. Any ideas?
Well it could be something broke off and lodged into the edge of the motor not allowing it to spin freely. Or anything could be the solder joint broke. Depending on how the motor is set up it may be easier or harder to fix. If it is a solder joint that broke you could probably fix it yourself, by heating up a soldering iron and melting the solder to the pad again. If this is the problem and you want to attempt to fix, just make sure you don't hold the soldering iron on there too long, you don't want to burn the board or anything. It is possible (although highly unlikely) that the motor blew. There really isn't a easy way to find out for sure without opening it up though. Although if you download Z-device test, then you can go to the vibrate part of it and press the screen where it says press to vibrate and see if it is working at all through that.
I think this is the best we have for this kind of thing so far:
ifixsmartphone teardown of the doubleshot.
guess what my phone's vib stopped working about a day ago...
and it's fixed now...
this is how it went...
ppl were calling me and i wasnt getting notified by any means.
my ringtone got messed up some how... i tried taking battery out that did not help... to fix that i had to choose another ring tone and back to my default.
now i figued that my vib was also dead...
while watching a movie...
i took off the battery... and started hitting the phone upside down on palm of my hand.. and testing vib by turning the phone onn..
i started getting the vib back but it was very low...
so after the movie...
i took a peice(about 1 inch) of clear mailing tape and folded it backwards and made a thin pin alike... and stucked in the headphone jack hole... and twisted it...
guess what... a small peice of lint came out...
then i did it again... and another came out .. lol
and that's about it.....
my vib is back in action
seems like lint from my pants pocket gets in that headphone jack hole and some how blocks the vib motor to move!
have fun !
that's why I always have pouch for my phones

Bad microphone connection

I never really noticed this as I don't use voice search or call very often. Sometimes I can't be heard, but if I press the bottom of the phone, the mic works fine again. It seems like the connection is loose and when I push on the general area of the microphone, it works again. Any clues as to how or why this has happened? I'm thinking of just taking it apart and seeing what's up, but would like some input from the guys who have taken their NS apart.
Small update. Finally go my screwdriver in the mail. Took the phone apart and cleaned the little rubber piece in some soapy water and let it dry. Don't know if that was actually the problem. Put the phone back together and it seems to be holding up. I gotta give it a few days to see if it actually worked though.

Touch cover issues?

After having a duff sd slot on my original surface my replacement arrived today, all good, left it doing updates and installing my apps for a while, all was well, or so I thought..
The keyboard is now not responding after a while, connected, works, close the cover, open it again, screen doesn't come on, press power button screen comes on, keyboard not responding, close cover, screen stays active, disconnect keyboard and reconnect it and it works again..
Had a quick look through the settings and there's nothing I can see that relates to keyboard sleep or power management..
Tried it on my old surface and its fine :\
Wondering if anyone has seen or heard anything similar, otherwise another tech chat with support tomorrow...
You might want to try rebooting the new Surface, and make sure the connection port where the cover links up is clean, but otherwise I don't know what would cause that problem. I've had cases where the cover wasn't recognized, but disconnecting and reconnecting it fixed that.
Only issue I ever have with the cover is if I remove it while the tablet is sleeping and when it wakes it thinks it is still attached.
It's been rebooted many times so dont think its that, had a poke thru device managet last night and looked for power saving stuff but nothing relavant..
Connectors are all clean and it works in the old Surface.. :/
Maybe the keyboards just missing the tablet it came with lol
Still nothing, hard reset, power offs nothing, have now noticed that the edges of the touch cover are peeling apart at the corners so might get this replaced as well, so far the support guys have been spot on, the device however while really promising just lacks finish :\

Two options....
1. Return the cover..
2. Bring your surface bad cover to Microsoft store and let them figure out what is wrong...
I am very happy with my surface and the touch cover...
I have a 5 second delay sometimes when opening and closing. Otherwise, ref let msft know

I've had 2 bad units now, don't think its the cover as it worked on the first surface before I returned it.
I'll get onto surface support when they are back, I don't seem to be able to raise a ticket on the new unit, touch cover might end up going back as well at this rate...

I've had the same issue with the type cover. Sometimes it works fine throughout. Other times it seems to fall asleep until an adjustment is made.
I've caught the connection off by a few millimeters at times (although that doesn't explain why the initial connection would work), but you can look and check for that as well.
From now on I'll simply restart from the Power button without removing the connection to see if it's really a 100% mechanical issue.
Ha I've had all of these problems you've named
On Live Chat with support now, the MS forums seem to suggest a reset, I've tried it a few times tho, will see if they will fire out another cover..
Right, cover is being swapped out on AR as well now, hope they hurry up and take the hold off the card though, the hold is for more than it would cost to actually buy the bloody thing new again..
