Hi,
I have updated to the offical rom 6.1. I have reinstalled all my data and programas and I have applied the performance tweaks, including disabling the large start menu.
However, I have realised that when I put the device to sleep, and wake it up again, there it is, the large start menu is back. If I look in configuration, I see that the checkbox is not checked. I can check it, uncheck it again, reboot, and the large start menu is gone... until the device is put to sleep and waken up again.
¿Any idea in how to disable it in a permanent way?
At the begining I thought that I had provoked this failuere by installing "QuickMenu" without having uninstalled "large start menu". I have unistalled "QuickMenu", but I go on having the same problem.
Any idea would be appreciated, I am kind of desperate.
Thankyou very much.
Well, I have finally been able to do it. Apart from disabling "Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Large Start Menu", I have found another option in the programs menu "Large Title Bar". Now, by also disabling it, the large start menu is gone.
What puzzles me is why by only using the first option, the large start menu was gone until the device was locked and put to sleep, and when it was waken up and unlocked, the menu was back.
At least now it is gone, but this doesn't make me feel I have a very realiable device. It seems, I won't have to hard reset in order to try to get it fixed. It is a real pain install everything again.

I had my universal put in my car holder, and apparently it was too snug and it held the backlight button clicked, when i had just soft reset.
The normal boot image came on, but this time a new menu appeared, instead of loading the OS!
It gave me 3 Options:
Enable KILT: NO
Clean Registry Hive: NO
Format Storage: NO
Controlling the menu is really strange:
the UP key scrolls the menu,
the DOWN key enables/disables the selected option,
and the ACTION key appears to start the selected options.
Not knowing how to control the menu, i accedently turned on the KILT option and clicked the action key, which gave me a new submenu, letting me choose the KILT transport method (USB, etc..), and KILT mode (Active or Passive)
i searched for "KILT" on the other forums, and its already a known option apparently, on the hermes forums especially.
They appear to use it to flash corrupted radio versions ("NO GSM" messages), and for other purposes also, mainly rescuing a bricked phone!
I can see how the "Clean registry hive" can be a useful option though, like when you screw up registry entries, making your os unable to load - you can clean the registry before doing a hard reset, so maybe you'd have a chance to save and backup your data.
Can anyone tell us more about this menu, or the KILT mode?
This menu was already known
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=865099&postcount=26
That post is from 10-01-2006
I think it's even mentioned in the Wiki page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
Although it says camera+reset, think it should be backlight+reset
hmm, i see.
i don't know why i haven't found it earlier when i searched the forum.
but is there anything useful that can be done with the KILT options, as they do with hermes?
KITL is usefull if the OS wont boot, that about it.
it allows you to see the wince kernel log while it boots so if you have a phone that wont boot this can help you find out why ;D
No GSM!!! can KITL help?
this seems to be a good news for me....
i'm having this problem of NO GSM on my UNIVERSAL on startup. so it is bricked now. Can this KITL help in getting my Radio ROM to life again???

well there's this thread i found, but its for hermes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300096&highlight=kitl+pb
be careful, hermes and universal are very different.
read this to get information only, i really dont recommend trying this on your universal without someone who know what he's doing helping you.
good luck
anyone can tell me how to disable this menu in the booting?
just dont press the buttons
I do not have any more the Short Menu on the right upper corner (X) after I installed and removed another start menu program.
Any suggestions which registry modification would solve the problem?

Do you mean the task manager quick menu?
If so, you can re-enable it by going to Settings>System>Task Manager>Button and re-check the "Enable Quick Menu.." box.

I had this problem too, for no apparent reason eventhogh the settings were untouch
A simply soft re-set will bring back the icon to close "running programs"
A soft-reset didn't work but the quick menu could be brought back by re-checking the box - quite easy
Thanks /geolix
Hello!
Do you happen to know how to:
a)put the gsm indicator on the today screen (VERY preferably on the HTC today, e.g. below the alarm clock on the right side or horizontally near the operator name - not to waste space)
b)block GPRS: just to tell the phone to never ever try to connect to it. At the moment e.g. while pressing the weather button, it starts connecting - quite annoying, especially if pressed by chance
c)create folders in programs menu (as e.g. the "games" folder) and then copy shortcuts into it
d)in the menu start - change from 7 shortcuts and 5 recent programs into 12 shortcuts and 0 recently opened programs.
Thank you for help!
Best regards,
Theriel
c) Go under "\Windows" direcotry and then under "\Start menu"
that's the direcotry tree
I meant programs menu - the one you get into by clicking start->programs. .
Any ideas about this as well as the other questions ?
b) there are several ways to kill all data connections. you can use something like the Advanced Config Tool and disable the data connection setup on the phone. Or you can use a tool like MoDaCo's NoData tool. Search the forums you will find your answer.
c) It is where "wonderiuy" said it is. For the icons in Programs you need to go one level deeper in the start menu. My Device -> Windows -> Start Menu -> Programs. There you will find links to all the icons when you go to Start Programs.
Thanks a lot! I have also a small question: is there any reason for which I shouldn't enable all the power managements that there are in Advanced Config Tool?
I would be still grateful for answering a) and d) :].
d) Disable large start menu
Start -> Settings -> Large start menu -> disable (or rather not enable) it

Do this,
1. Click the weather tab and click the location name at the top. You will get into ‘Select City’ window.
2. Tap the ‘Menu’ at the bottom right of the screen and choose ‘Weather Options…’ from the pop-up list.
3. Uncheck ‘Download weather data automatically*’
b) Easy solution: Go to Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Manage Networks -> and choose "Company Network" for "Programs with automatic internet connectivity use ....". Name of options may vary, because I use German ROM. Translation done by brain.exe on the fly
Thanks a lot mates! So, there is no way to solve my problem "d)" ?
see post #6 in your own thread (above). Does that not do what you asked?
That has nothing to do with choosing the programs you want to have listed in the menu start. Large menu is completely different thing which, by the way, I have disabled since the very beginning.
Hi,
is there any way to access settings apart from the start menu?
I noticed that the settings icon disappeared in my start menu (I'm using custom WM6.5 ROM). Is there a way how to get it back?
Thanks in advance for all advices!
You do not provide enough information to really help you.
Info such as WHAT custom ROM, what interface, etc.
So with that, if you are running Manila there is a settings tab.
If you have flashed a ROM that took it out, ask in that thread for a fix.
If you cooked your own ROM and its missing, check your kitchen and recook.
As visible from my signature, I'm using Essential 3.3 and the icon used to be present in the start menu. One day it just disappeared.
Still, settings were accessable from Manila (settings tab -> more). However, after disabling Manila (using settings tab -> more -> today), there's no way how to enter settings again.
I'd just like to find a way how to get the icon back OR how to access the settings apart from the wm6.5 start menu. Thanks again.
I've find that by searching in Registery:
HKLM / SECURITY / SHELL / START INFO / HideSettings = 1
change the key to 0, and then, you'll have the WM Settings menu in start menu of WM6.5.
I have TD2 with new Rom HTC WM6.5, and it works well for me.
I hope it will be the same for you.
In Sense, go to settings and look at the botton left option taht says "all settings"
That one should take you to where you want to go (the Bronze settings menu screen for System, Home, Connctions etc...)
1.How to fix glitchy performance
The relative freedom Android gives apps means your system can often get bogged down, causing glitch performance despite the Note 3’s great specs. One obvious way to solve these it to properly power off the phone by holding down the power button until the power off pop-up comes up – then either turn off or restart the phone.
If this doesn’t help, try closing down all recent apps by holding the central select button to bring up the multi-tasking menu, then tap the ‘cross’ icon in the bottom-right of the screen.
2. How to close down apps fully
If this still doesn’t solve your issue and your problems relate to a specific app, you can delve deeper. Go to Settings>General tab>Application Manager. Then flick right-to-left on-screen to the list of the apps currently running, or all apps. Find the pesky app’s entry and tap it. You’ll see options to ‘force stop’, ‘clear data’ and ‘clear cache’. Pressing all of these will fully reset the app, and should solve most app-related problems.
3. How to perform a factory reset
If none of the above measures have exorcised the gremlins from your phone, you should probably try a full data reset. This wipes everything of yours off the phone, making it just like it was fresh out of the box – so make sure you save any photos before doing this. To perform a reset, go to Settings>General tab>Backup and Reset, and select Factory Data Reset.
4. How to update software
The Galaxy Note 3 will get fairly regular software updates. The phone should give you a nudge when a new update is available, but you can manually check for an update too. To do this, go to Settings>General tab>About Device (it’s right down the bottom). At the top of this sub-menu is a ‘software update’ option. Within it is a check box to make the phone automatically check for updates, along with the manual check button.
