Hi, can anyone make this happen??
collect all the important .cap files and make a .rar file or post it in a Sticky post or anything like this??
programs such as a lists of all the tweaks, the sim fix, the adv. configuration, any registry editor, battery saver, and other important tweaks...
that will be a very usefull Post..

That will take a bit of effort, going through all the posts and setting the info out in an organised manner, and collecting all the cab files.
But it's not rocket science, all the info is there, so why don't you make the effort. I'm sure many others will appreciate it.

Exactly. The thing I love most about this forum is the ability to seach for things and learn how to make my device mine (just the way I like it) not the way that he likes his or she likes hers. what I like and need, might not be what you need, and what you need, might not be what I am interested in. If you want an all in one package, do some reading about the many different custom Roms and Rom upgrades available. Some come preinstalled with many tweaks and apps.

hi all,
i am using dutty's rom dated feb 20. however, the cube really bugging me. I wonder does it work if I backup all my system/user data by using sprite/spb backup, upgrade to the non-cube rom dated mar 4, then restore the system data back? so I can keep all the program's setting. does it make the system unstable? thank you!

That reply was totally uncalled for.
That is not a bad question at all. In almost every case it is NOT recommended to do a backup/restore between different ROMS; however, I see what you are thinking. Since they are both Dutty ROMS, both using the same basic base....makes you think.....
I don't know the answer. You could always try. If things did not work right, you could flash back.
My 2 cents.
maybe, since its been posted on here a hundred times or so, you could use the search or post in the related thread. i know these two things are realy hard to understand but maybe worth a try. is that better?

I know that there are a lot of posts about backup/restore across ROMs...that is not in question. This question adds an interesting spin on the whole concept....IMHO.
Anyway, I just thought you were a bit rough....no harm, no foul.

just make a backup with pim backup and save the backupfile on your storagecard and reflash the rom of your liking and run the restore function (pimbackup creates a backup of your appointments,call logs,contacts,messages:sms mms email,speed dails,tasks,and some custom stuff you can add)use a uc rom where you can add cabs and tweaks

I have PIM back at outlook, i mainly concern the application settings like informant (u know informant has thousands settings), memmaid schedules/settings, path and etc.
those settings will lose everytime I upgrade the rom, and it takes loooooog time to re-configure.
So, I just want to find a way to save time

With many progs (PI included) you can export and import settings. That is what I do. I export my PI settings and put them either in My Docs or Storage Card. when I reload PI, I just go into settings and Import them. That includes your license key and all settings.
Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the data icon circled in the screenshot below?
The reason is that I don't use data on my phone, and it's been blocked by my SP at my request, so this "no data connection icon" shows on my toolbar SO I just wanna get rid of it.

I was thinking that I should post it there first, but I wasn't sure, and considering it is probably a reg tweak needed (I noticed that in a few ROMs the icon doesn't appear (Alex's is one)) , I decided to post it here. If the MOD would like to move it over there, then so be it.
I noticed you answered the same way in another post, maybe sirens should sound with every one of your posts? (forum police) lol

Haha, no not the police, you'll notice i still answered the question and suggested where the post might get more attention. I just think that if everyone posts where they're supposed to it might make it easier to find what we're looking for. I also looked around to see if i could find any information related to your question, but was not successful. Did you try asking alex how he got rid of it?

hehe, yea, i was just joking.... and your probably right, maybe this should have gone in the other forum, but I really wasn't sure.

you could possibly edit the data connection icons so that its completely blank. the icons are stored in shellres.96.dll i believe.

I am having trouble copying the dll from my device. I am getting an Access Denied error. Do you know if there is a way to copy it off my device so I can extract it and edit it?

yea, mine is named the sammmething. I guess the only way to do this is edit the file from a dumped rom and then copy it over the exiisting file in the windows folder? can someone upload the file shellres96apps.dll from their windows folder if they can copy It off there device? it would be much appreciated

Thats a link to my little site with all the roms ive downloaded, and put on my megaupload account, kinda like a back place for those, and ive seen tons of people asking for megaupload links...Well here you go.

For those who need tutorials on roms... Cyanogen is an amazing developer who made an entire wiki for you... http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/ ... go there and youll find everything you need. I have followed that, then installed SPL 1.33.2005 Danger (on my site) and have been able to install every app ive found thusfar....
Also if you have a file on your computer that you want on the site, theres a box at the bottom of the page for you to upload a file directly to my megaupload account... then you can either find me on twitter to tell me to add it to the site, or msg me here, make the description as vage as poss. (to prevent them from taking it down)

To be honest i used cyanogens wiki to Root my phone, and once i followed that tutorial to the end i installed SPL 1.33.2005 And ive been able to install every rom possible....

Added an amazing thing to the site....if you have a file on your computer that you would like to see on my site, there is a box at the bottom of my page to directly upload your file to my megaupload account, up to 2 gigs!!!! Then twitter me or msg me to add it to the site....

I did the Hello, Android tut, and am clueless. java is like Klingon to me lol.
On to the point. All i need is a simple app that has 2 buttons, that will run 2 shell scripts. Thats it!
I can probably even tweak the ui myself if its done in xml. Just need the java code done.

What they said.
It sounds like GScript will do exactly what you need. And once you get the basics of a programming language down, it's a lot easier to learn more by picking apart existing programs to see how they work. Change a few lines, see what impact it has on the program's function. Break it, fix it. Best way to learn is by doing.
But if you just want to be able to run two quick shell scripts, GScript is your answer.

Thought about Gscript last night actually after I made this post. And I agree, i deff learn better by hacking up already completed stuff.
I do have one question though.
I figured out one additional step I need done. I don't care if the app does it or if I can implement it into my script. Just needs to be done.
I need to for the market to re-checkin. I know this can be done via the dialer, but i'm sure there is a simpler way to do this. Anyone know?

So I created this Wiki that anyone can post their guides (or other peoples with permission). I am still in the process of copying over each individual section of the Pimp my Captivate guide (it's sticky-ed) if anyone would like to help that would be great. Remember though, ALWAYS SEARCH THE WIKI BEFORE POSTING SOMETHING TO MAKE SURE IT HAS NOT BEEN POSTED. Everything you post MUST relate to the Captivate.

nah you're str8. you can use a stock firmware posted on this website to revert to a perfect out of the box phone. You can also reinstall them if you ask us for the ones you're missing.

If you use the freeze option (only available on paid version) it removes the app from the app list and prevents it from running while not actually deleting it.

Looks great so far. This should really come in handy. I wish I was more well versed with Android and this phone so I could make some useful contributions. However, I clearly am not. I do appreciate the effort everyone else is putting forth tho!

chown'ing, sry. : chown : change ownership
Changing the ownership of the file, in addition to the permissions.
One methodology being used was to chmod 777 (world writeable!?), which is not a birght idea for security purposes.
