XDA iis query (sorry didnt know where to put this thread) - General Topics

Hi guys
On monday my beloved XDA stellar (HTC tytn2/Kaiser) had it's screen smashed and without insurance 02 wanted £130 to repair it... So ebay was scoured for a replacement until my contract is up and I found an unlocked old XDA iis...at the last minute I thought I would have to check about one tiny little detail with you guys.
Will my 02 3G simcard work in a XDA iis as it is a 2G phone.
I have had this simcard work in obscure 2G chinese imports (easycall P810).
If it doesn't work is there a rom I can flash that will make it work???
Edit: If it helps the 3G simcard i have will happily use GPRS and EDGE networks if there is no 3g coverage
Edit2: If it just wont work at all can i phone 02 deactivate the 3G simcard and have them send me a 2G simcard with my number on it?

"NO SERVICE" Can't get signal anywhere, anyhow.

My XDA II is not getting any signal from anywhere.. Flight mode is off, wireless is on.. Beside the signal icon is an exclamation mark that just stays there. It just says "No service" when tapped on.. I've tried other sims but nothing worked. The sim cards work fine with other phones.
The Xda II detects the sim card because it can read it's phonebook thru "sim manager". I've tried searching network and stuffs but still nothing. I did the soft and hard reset but to no avail.
Can anyone please help me???? Is this a usual problem??
Is it a new XDA II ? or second hand bought ?
Did it ever work ? When did it stop working?
Did you do an upgrade ?
What radio version ?
What model ?
It could be you have a stolen XDA II and that it is blacklisted.
It could be that the upgrade went wrong and you have no radio.
It could be that it is set to the wrong band. 850/1900 900/1800
SEcond Hand. Haven't done an upgrade.
I just tried using other network's sim and it worked.. only sims from the network it was bought from don't seem to work..
How do you change the bands?
About those bands I don't know much. I just read that it is a problem, but mostly in the US.
It could be that it is blaklisted at one operator, and that it works with other operators. But I was under the impression that all operators should use the blacklists.
You could call helpdesk/go to shop of your operator and ask why it doesn't work and if it is blacklisted.
Would they confiscate the unit if it is blacklisted?
Thanks for the replies M4IO..
I don't know, I've never had one.
you could just phone them from an anonymous phone, tell them that you want to buy a second hand phone, but first want to check.
If you know anybody who travels abroad, ask them to take it to another country, if it works there then you know it is blacklisted in your country.

Using my XDA11 abroad

i have an xda11 on O2 network does anyone know if my phone will work abroad?...I do know my sim card will work in other phones but not sure about my XDA11...hope this isnt too simple of a question for this forum but if you dont know you dont know!!!
O2 will work in most countries however it often works out cheaper to get a payandgo sim in the county you are visiting. Your phone will work fine in other countries with your current sim and almost every other sim.

CDMA Touch Pro 2 with GSM?

Hey people, sorry if there is already a post for this but i'm a little confused about my phone. Is it possible for the verizon touch pro 2 to be used on GSM networks like AT&T? (I think its GSM) or overseas like in europe? A lot of people are saying yes and no, i just want some clarification.
Thanks. Just got my Touch pro 2 like 3 weeks ago and still figuring everything out. lol
The Verizon TP2 has both CDMA and GfSM, The phone is unlocked will work on edge band here in the states on T-Mobile and *((. Overseas without unlocking it will work on some 3G netwiroks depending the bands.
Yes to your question....
Verizon Wireless is not strictly CDMA; it too is GSM 850 in rural areas you expect AT&T to cover, and in fact T-Mobile has roaming agreements with on the 850 spectrum. It's not at all uncommon for VW to have GSM where it's bought a previous GSM territory as it did recently in both Alabama (Unicel) and Louisiana (Centennial Communications); both GSM 850.
ya. it will work. its a quad band phone. so you'll get 3g on t-mobile and att.
I got my SIM unlocked and threw in my buddy's T-mo SIM and made a phone call. The caller ID came up with his #.
yes i worked for me.. i used http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/ and it was a breeze.. im using a sprint touch pro 2... with Verizon firmware.. on the At&t network..
Only issues i have so far is my internet settings mess everyone once in a while and i have to reapplya At&t internet settings cab i have.. and i cant get 3g to work.. just Edge. and my MMS only sends.. i'm having issues with recieving MMS. Not sure if these issues are fixable but hopefully.

Mine is doing that as well. How can we fix that?
Hey guys, one quick question:
I'm interested in buying tis phone but sadly I cant seem to find one available in Toronto or Markham (Ontario) so i'm thinking of buying one from TELUS (CDMA) since i heard they are sim un-lockable.
This post is merely a request for re-confirmation about that ability.
Will I be able to buy the HTC Touch Pro2 from Telus and sim-unlock it to use on Rogers/Fido Networks? Any limitations/advantages?
Can Telus do that unlock for me or is it a DIY software method?
I'm sorry if come off somewhat noob in my question :x I'm not new to the phone development but I havent been involved in the scene for almost 2 years and jus wanted a nudge in the right direction
Seems like a fun phone, esp with the ability to dual-boot android (i hate wm6...lol). Thanks again

Yes there is one limitation. If you have the Rogers/Fido Id caller (7$ option), it will not work on the phone.
Instead of showing the caller name and number(even if he is not in your contacts), It will only show the Number.

wow that sucks :/
so if someone i dont know calls me, (even with the callder ID service) only their number will show up? -_-
no way to get around that? i get a lot of people who call me outside of my contact list and it'd be annoying to not know whos calling lol
thanks for the reply

i'm pretty sure there is nothing to fix. since are using someone elses sim it is assigned to their phone number. the only sim that would show with your number would probably be the one that came with the phone. (if it did come with one). i have no idea how it would grab your number from the cdma radio but i guess thats how the stock one knows your #. if you put a different sim in it, it will have a different number.

DO NOT put a gsm rom on a sprint touch pro2! your phone is cdma!
well i ran into this problem on my htc fuze that i put a custom rom on for rogers. caller id would only display the phone number and not name. after few days of searching i have found a (rilphone for rogers CNAP.cab this is gsm patch dont try on cdma phone wont work) patch for the radio just install from phone soft reset and caller id with name worked. But that was a gsm phone. i dont know if maybe can work on some radio cab patch that could get this to work as well. Just posting this to see if anyone is up for the challenge.

HTC Mozart SIM unlock

Hi all,
Just seeking some help, I've recently got a HTC Mozart and I've upgraded it to unlocked Mango. Problem is I bought it locked to Orange UK and I'm with Vodafone. I've just today got an unlock code and it's worked in accepting the SIM card but there is no signal and I can't call anyone. My contacts and messages have come up though.
Any ideas of what the issue could be?
Thanks for Looking.
Have you tried using the connection manager to switch it over to Vodafone?
Yes, I've switched it to Vodafone Contract on connection manager. I've rang vodafone to see if they are maybe blocking the signal as it's a new phone but because the sim works in my old phone they say it's 100% a problem with the phone.
Could it be that I typed in the code after I had upgraded to custom unlocked mango ROM?
And also I hear you have to type the unlock code twice on orange phones but I can't type it in again, there's no option to.
This phone was bought less than a week ago, I can and am considering returning it. I've rang HTC and they think it's a problem with the handset.
I too just got this phone like you, from orange, had it unlocked and have come to the conclusion it just doesn't work on vodafone.
When I did a search for networks on the phone tmobile, orange and 3 uk all came up but not vodafone. I also tried my 3 uk sim and it worked fine. i'm now back on my blackberry as it's the only phone i have which will work with the vodafone sim.
the phone i am keeping. vodafone i am not.
Thanks Livett, that's what I was thinking I tried a t-mobile sim and it worked fine. I think I'm going to change it for an Omnia 7 as I've still got a couple of months of my contract left and my other phone is a £10 vodafone branded phone. Worst phone I've ever experienced. I won't be staying with vodafone though.
Hi, I just thought i'd give you an update.
I updated to Mango last night on this phone and managed to get the sim working. It flits between Edge, HSPA and GPRS connections. Do Vodafone even have 3G? Either way it doesn't work, it's atrocious. I managed to send a text to myself on HSPA, recieved it, picked up the handset and then the signal dropped.
I think it's safe to assume Vodafone does work on this phone as it's unlocked, it's just Vodafone is so **** at coverage it's not even worth it.
Thanks.

[Q] Verizon S3 bad ESN

Hello everyone. My phone had been stolen and I got the replacement insurance phone. I recovered the old phone and now it
Has a bad ESN. Is it possible to use this phone on gsm mode in some other country. My brother wanted a new phone in India and I was thinking Of giving him my old S3. Will it work in India on a GSM mode with a Sim Card. As the s3 has both modes. Please provide your input.
Kindly avoid the ethics and legal issues
No. Won't work.
It would be illegal to work around bad esn.
I think the best idea (cheapest and legal)
Buy a parts phone( cracked screen or something.) and switch the internal hardware.
But you can not just magically pop a different sim in the phone and it works. Haha
Good luck

Yes it will work if you get the lte on off app and put it in gsm. Then root and download a app called apn manager premium $1.29 and have him put in his carier APN then your all set.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Thanks for the reply guys. I don't want to work on the ESN
Rather I want it to be used as a GSM phone in a different country
Just to make calls ,texts and 3g data. The frequency matches my home
Network. Thanks for telling me that it is possible
