Transfering Contacts from Sony Ericsson P1 into HTC Touch Pro - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hello friends .
Can somebody please clarify how to do this :
I have about more than 1100 contacts on my Sony Ericsson P1i phone and many of them has a second or third Mobile Phones under same contact.
When I transfer these to HTC Touch Pro (or any WM device) only 1 of the Mobile phones is transferred.
The same thing applies to other fields too , if the person has 3 home numbers only 1 or 2 of them get stored under outlook.
Can you please explain if there is a work around for this . Or maybe any 3rd party software ?
Thanks
YG

How are you transferring them? Are you using Outlook or some other method?

Well since I have around 1100 contacts , I guess it would be difficult to tranfer them 1 by 1 by bluetooth.
However, even if I did that , The 2nd and 3rd mobile phones get lost during transfer.
I'm guessing that the best way would be that I transfer all contacts from P1i to PC by using SE P1i's syncronising tool PC SUITE to Microsoft Outlook.
I did that already but all of the second mobile phones were already lost.... I thought of correcting them on Outlook but I could not find a way to rename fields on Outlook.
I'm OK with Outlook, or I also OK with another 3rd party software .
Any ideas please ?

Hi,
I've the same thing. You need to use "Float Mobile agent":
http://fma.sourceforge.net/
Sync it with your SonyEricsson phone to have all the contacts in the computer. Then export the contacts from the float interface into outlook and sync Touch Pro with ActiveSync.
You should now have all these contacts in your touch pro

Wow ,,,,,, My mouth is already watering I can't wait to test it )))
EDIT : I downloaded the program ans installed it. However when I connect the Sony Ericsson P1, it's reading my contacts 1 person per telephone number.
This means If I have for example Michael A . It creates 3 entries for Michael A if he has 3 phones. it should be 1 only, I have also signed in the forum but each forum is protected by Password, so I can't view Outlook SYNC problems forum. How do I write my contacts to Outlook ?

I had that problem previously. Which is why I have more than one listing for people who have more than one cellphone. E.g. John Smith-Globe and John Smith-Smart.
It was the only way I can easily transfer my contacts between phones without any problems. So I've been doing that for as long as I can remember.

You can't have more than 1 mobile number per contact with WM so you will have to change the name of your contacts that have more than one number otherwise you will lose them.
It sucks but it is the only way and I do not think any software will do this for you.
Cheers

Can't Microsoft imagine that a person might have 2 more more cell phones ??
How stupid is that ???

Thanks for the reply
However this FMA only allows me to have 1 telephone number for each contact. No matter if work phone or mobile phone, so I have multiple entries if my contact has multiple numbers. I can not see all numbers under same contact.
What do I have to do ? Is yours like this as well ?

do you have the latest outlook ? (2007? or something?) I had no problems converting p990i>TP with newest pc suite, outlook 2007 and activesync...

I'm sure you have errors in your vontacts that you have not noticed yet.
See your contacts and see if any of your contacts have 2 or more mobile phone numbers stored.
Or maybe by chance all your contacts have only one mobile phone
Now I'm almost sure it's impossible to do , I wish somebody could prove me wrong...

If I might just add, there is one other way you transfer your contacts from your P1 to your windows mobile device. Setup yourself a Mail2Web Account up, and then grab activesync software for your phone. Then synchronize your contacts with the online exchange and then you have a handy backup of all 1100 contacts. I personally would hate to lose them, this just gives you the extra assurance. I'm not certain if the P1 has, but it takes the hassle out of migrating. This method can also be used when upgrading your ROM.

I believe you can't have 2 devices connected and syncronized at the same time so what you would have to do is go to connection settings and remove the option to sync contacts. Instead I would reccomend PIM Backup which backs up your contacts to your storage card and you dont have to worry about your contacts getting mixed up with your wifes.
I guess you just have to have 2 separate XP sessions.
i have my wizard and my girlfriends hx2495 connected to the same computer. i just set up two different users that utilize different outlook profiles.

That sounds like a good idea, fortunately I only have one device to sync and don't have to worry about that. But once I get my new phone and give the wife this one then we might have a problem.

Transfering Contacts from Sony Ericsson P1 into any WM 6.1 based phone..

Hello Guys
Is this possible at all ?
OHHH I see your problem now. Someone else asked about this, having multiple of the same type of number for a contact, and I've never seen it done. I don't think he ever found a solution to his problem.
If you can put the numbers as Mobile/Home/Business that would work, but that takes away the ability to text I believe. Good luck.

Contacts Messed Up after migration from k610i

Hello All,
I have read the beginners guide and searched. Didn't find an answered so posting my problem.
I recently bought the HTC Touch Pro. Before that I had a SE k610i. So I transferred my contacts into the sim and then when I plugged the sim into the HTC TP, i asked it to copy to my contacts.
What I then saw was all my contacts were severely messed up. such as ;lastname;firstname\1 and so on. Obviously on k610i I had saved 2-3 numbers for each person so I can understand the \1 or \2 but the rest is unbelievable.
Can someone please guide me how to correct this because I'm unable to locate a setting to change in the HTC TP.
Thanks
Vivek

Its how a SE phone saves the contacts.. I don't think you can do anything now besides syncing it back to Outlook and then ammend from there.
Or maybe you could sync your SE phone to Outlook. Verify that the first name, last name, and contact details are correct. If they are in the wrong order to begin with, means you have keyed in wrongly on your SE phone. If its ok in Outlook, then just sync it back to your PPC.
And I would suggest use Outloook as a base to sync all your phones.. Its much cleaner that way.
Yep, thats just how SE does things. It did the same thing on my Motorolas, and on my Samsungs...

i totally disagree with tht......i owned a SE P990i before Touch Pro and problems arising bcos of migration of contacts is bcos of Touch Pro or to put it better, Windows Mobile platform.......
WM 6 allows only 1 number entry as Mobile, hence if u have more than 2 numbers stored as Mobile in SE phone, only 1 will be transferred.....no matter which way u use.....
WM 6.0 allows only Mobile Number to be used as text messaging number....only work arnd is to save othr mobile number as work, dial it and frm call history, send sms.......
to Sync contacts between SE and Touch Pro, best way is to sync SE contacts with Outlook (select options in Outlook to store contacts as First Name, Last name or vice versa depending on ur choice) and same way, it wil be uploaded in Touch Pro.......
another thng is,, with SE, you can select Custom folder in Outlook to be synced, but Touch Pro uses default folder of Outlook (Active Profile)......so be carefull

Thank you all for your comments.
Well I had a k610i and there was no sync option on it atleast that I know off. And anyways I don't like sync with outlook. I like to keep my email contacts and the phone contacts seperate. I don't want to have a 3rd issue develop here.....
So anyways I have realised that one way or the other I would need to edit all of them one by one to correct them on my HTC. Also, on my k610i the contacts were saved properly but HTC see's contacts very differently. So what I plan to do is take a contacts backup using PIMbackup. Once its in CSV format, I'll modify it there and restore it back rather than doing it from outlook or on the phone directly.
I wish there was an easy way such as a setting where one could choose how to display the contact names and numbers. Something I really feel HTC Touch Pro lacks.
Anyways hopefully for future users of HTC Touch Pro, there will be someone intelligent enough to create a software/global settings that would allow one to do this on the phone....
thank you once again
Regards
vivek
I had the same issue afew years back when i dropped my P900i.
as Kingjack mentioned it's becuase WM platform as well as Microsft outlook way of saving contacts is not the best (or let's say the flexible) way. SE is much more flexible and better...
however, Callingrohit needs to make his new TP usable and loaded with his contatcs..
a few years back i did it as follows: (it's a long way but effective).
- Have a software to backup contacts from your SE and save it as CSV or XLS file.
- from your outlook, save contacts as CSV or xls also.
- Manually compare the columns/format of both files, and try to manupilate the SE.CSV to look like the outlook one.
- import the new SE.CSV into outlook contacts.
now you should have all your contacts in outlook, then you can easily use the Active sync with your TP.
hope this is not too complicated.
Sorry Vivek, i didn't read your last message...
seems that you already figured it out by yourself ... ;-)
Discussed the same prob on Symbian forum -

I guess, the best way i fugured out till now is to sync using Outlook and then edit each contact having multiple mobil fields....
i will try method suggested by hatemd also
ne one has any idea, if someone is working on improving the contacts native form on WM or any other application which allows multiple mobile numbers
I migrate myself from k610i to TPro. There's a great piece of soft for SE phones (MyPhoneExplorer) - I used this to sync SE with Outlook and then Outlook with HTC via ActiveSync. It went ok.

No problem Hatemd. Thank you for your reply. Also, thanks to kingjack.
Finally I gave up and found that editing the CSV file is too much work as compared to editing contact fields via outlook. So I have finally sync the contacts of my HTC into a new general profile of outlook (no email address configured) and then edited all my contacts and sync'd them back onto my HTC. Now I'm able to see them correctly. ...finally
But then I realised the SIM contacts are also visible under my HTC contacts menu and so deleted all the SIM contacts as they were still in the bad format as it came from the SE k610i.
I'm going to use MyPhoneExplorer for SE as suggested by _rav. Thank you for that didn't know it existed. I'll use it and convert my SE contacts properly too...
But now my main concern is I would always like to have a backup of all my HTC contacts in my SIM card too but the moment I copy even a single contact into the SIM card, it starts showing up under the contacts menu and then I have duplicate contacts which is kinda distracting and annoying.
Is there a tweak or some setting to avoid the SIM contacts from being visible in the HTC contacts menu but at the same time allowing me to copy all the HTC contacts into the SIM card.
Thanks
Vivek
Don't know about the tweak, but anyway you'll still face a problem if you save serveal numbers/details for each name.
this won't be applicable for SIM cards.

Transfer contacts to nokia

hi everyone.
i have to give my vox to the service station due to the ear piece not working. in the meantime i am using my sibling's nokia phone .
i want to know how can i go about transferring the contacts (only) from the s710 to the nokia?
i know one way is through the activesync n nokia pc suite using the Outlook as backup medium but i don't want to setup an email account on my pc so lets skip this step please.
I dont think you need to set up an email account to use outlook. Even with my vox, i did not set up email with outlook and i can sync calendar and address without an issue.
you do not need to configure a mail account to sync contacts or calender. trust me, I did it all the time. however how you get them synced to Nokia is not my cup of tea .
Use the SIM Luke...
LOL, the same thing happened to me. I gave in the s710 to have the earpiece repaired and used an old nokia in it's place.
If you go ot SIM tools and copy all the numbers to the SIM card, that should carry over all your contacts when you put it in the new phone. The s710 insists on copying the numbers in the format of "surname_firstname", which is annoying, but presumably you just need to put up with it for a few days till yours is repaired.
thanks guys .. .... all sorted . used the outlook anyways.

Sync Outlook without cloud - some possible solutions?

Hi guys,
I might get a WP7 device soon, only thing that still really bugs me is the missing active sync connection that I oved over the years! I know I could use google or hotmail to sync my Outlook with a WP7 device but I refuse to give in on that one. So instead of argueing why I should or should not want that I'm gonna try to find some solutions. I am not afraid of some not-so-easy way if at least we find one.
The following ideas came to my mind:
1) making use of the pim.vol file in my current winMo Phone.
somehow copying/converting it to the WP7 and than using it. afterwards copying it back to WinMo and sync it with my PC. a bit messy, but how about this? Further info could be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072796
2) Host a (free) exchange server.
We all cann't afford MS Exchange for sure. but there's a open source alternative or two: http://oxpedia.org/index.php?title=Main_Page_CE#quickinstall
Even better would be to have it running on the same PC so a server of some kind is not required...
3) sending all contacts via mail to the phone and having a seperate emailadress where all outlook appointments are sent to seperatly as invitations. Not really syncing though...
4) Get someone to programm a solution...
Have I missed something? are there limitations I for some reaseons was no aware of?
Thnaks all!
Use the Outlook Connector with your Windows Live ID; when you add a contact in Outlook, copy & paste it into your Windows Live contacts (which appear right in your Outlook on your PC), and then when Outlook sends & receives, it uploads your changes in your contacts to your Windows Live account. As soon as your phone syncs your Windows Live account, the new contact will show up on your phone. I use this method and it literally takes less than a minute from when I add the contact in Outlook until it shows up on my HTC HD7s.

thanks for your replies! Unfortunately I'm still looking for some kind of solution so if anyone has a hint of some kind... keep 'em commin'
hi,
you can install zarafa ww w dot zarafa dot com (new user -> you have to fix the link). There's a community edition and an outlook connector which replaces an exchange server and is free for up to three users. I installed it yesterday and my omnia7 could sync the calendar. However, I don't have outlook and could not check if that works. I didn't try to send/receive mails because I already use a separate IMAP account.
Zarafa runs on linux, so you'd have to create a virtual machine or install it on a home/root server.
The manual explains the installation very well and ubuntu provides packages in its canoncial-partners repository. But if you don't have any linux knowledge that might not be the easiest project to begin with.
HTH
You HAVE to assign a live id account to a Windows Phone; that is the only way to use the marketplace, to add social integration etc. That said, you can add the live account to outlook, install outlook connector and your info (calendar, contacts) will be in constant sync. Its a better solution to synchronize than active sync was.
Why are you trying to complicate the process?
@ShakaMan: Thanks! As far as I understood this is basically a exchangeserver (which I could instal on my own PC / Webspace /server), right?
@TechJunkiesCA Jeah, I know that it's easy. I simply don't trust MS or Google to keep my data. I have no problem with said live account But I do not want to give all my caenders and details of my contacts (friends and family) to a company of any kind. Thats the point.

well, when you have (many) contacts with private data (name, home/company address, birthday, ...) you should care what you "publish" about other people. I don't care if others put their own data on the web, but they shouldn't do that with the data of their contacts.
