just wondering what the best way to do a full state backup of a custom rom? I have alex's ROM, but added my own software and tweaked the settings how i like, just wondering how i can go about making a backup of it in case i break the phone or want to try a new rom without losing my config if i ever wanted to rollback.

Sprite or SPB Backup seem to be most popular. There is no way to do a backup of what I think you want. You can not backup the ROM and the added applications, config, etc. Only the later can be backed up.

Ok, I just got my replacement Tilt and now I have to send it back because it has hardware issues. I was wanting to just save everything I have on there so that I don't have to set everything back up again when I get my new one. (I'm not using the default ROM)
Should I follow the Kaiser ROM Kitchen Tutorial or is there a quicker way to make a backup so that I can re-install it all. I couldn't find anything else, but I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

i'm going to go ahead and not insult you, noob. Had you done a google search for "ppc backup" you might have found software such as sprite backup. I personally use it and i like it. I think it was included in some ROM or other.

Just make sure you install the same ROM as your current Tilt on the new device. Use Sprite Backup as the previous poster suggested and do a backup to SD Card and then restore. Create an .exe of the backup so you don't have to install Sprite backup to restore.
I use Sprite Backup and it works well for me. Saves a lot of time and effort. Just remember to use the same ROM.

Actually, I restored a WM6 backup in WM6.1 (upgrading because of the drivers) Sprite backup has a warning, etc. I just restored everything, except the Windows folder and I was fine. Sort of. Some things were broken, so I've been spending some time reinstalling cabs.
Right now I have a stable version with many applications installed and customized.
I want to test several new roms.
There is any posibility to make an backup image of my pda in order to quick restore the initial stable image?

use SPB Backup if you want to restore your applications/settings etc.,
Its better to restore backup on the same ROM used for taking backup than on an altogether different flavour. eg., you flashed tomal 8.2 and installed several applications on top of it, take a SPB Full Backup and restore on tomal 8.2 after flashing it afresh (in case you need restore) than restoring this backup on someother ROM.
Though it works by restoring the applications etc on any version of os/ROM it will be less stable.

I always used SPB bakcup and it always worked very well! You can customize auto backups and restoring them is very simple: the program creats an executable.
But, as rbalu72 said, it's not a good idea restore a backup made on a rom on another one. Every installation makes many registry and file changes that may vary rom to rom.
If you want to test other roms always make clean installs!!!

it is very good and useful because when you have backup file you can simple run it without installation the "mother program" to restore files. You can also try to use backup file on other ROM...

Ok there are a lot of options depending on the amount of time you want to spend either before or after upgrading (or both), this one SASHIMI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538513 will do everything (well it sure looks like it anyway!) but seems very complicated to setup.
There is also SPB Backup & Sprite backup which I believe do a good job.
I haven't used any of these, I nearly used SASHIMI, but wasn't prepared to spend the time setting it up.
For me I use PIMBackup (search) which does a fairly good job for the time you put into it, I then backup other programs manually, for me that means Voice dialing, single file reg settings (make as I edited them to start with), plus then anything else I can think of.
You get out of the process what you put in, I decided I didn't want to spend ages preparing and would sort out reconfiguring my device manually after.
Backing up from one ROM and restoring onto another has the potential to cause you problems.
Some backup software (like Sprite) has different restore levels available depending on whether you're restoring to the same ROM, a different ROM or a different device, but I've never had much success with any of them.
The general recommendation appears to be a clean install from scratch, and use backups only for restoring to the same ROM in the event of an emergency.
SPB Backup
I had the same problem. I wanted to try another rom, but before I wanted to backup all personal settings and programs. Therefore I've dumped my ROM completely with Radio and then made a complete backup with SPB Backup.
After that I was able to flash other Roms and restore my own whenever I want.
Is there any such software thats is easy to use to backup the ROM before trying another. Got a T-Mobile Compact V but don't know where to get the stock ROM as a backup so I can flash some of the new ROM's avaliable.
For me pim backup does the job great. Quickly and easily saves contacts, messages, emails, appointments etc.

To backup your ROM (not the Radio unfortunately), you can use DumpMyPhone.
Then with the tool RebuildROM you can create a flashable version of your original ROM.
This is only to backup your ROM. It's not for your applications and not for the Radio or the SPL.
What is the best clone app out there for completely backing up and completely reinstalling my whole phone? I have done tons of registry tweaks and apps and really don't want to have to reinstall all of them.

I use sprite for a full backup & pim for, well pim stuff!
Sprite should restore fine, aslong as you're restoring onto the same rom, ie, if you change model, or rom - the restore will cause loads of issues exactly because of all those registry tweaks!
Alright, so I have been testing the waters with my HTC Magic over the last several weeks. I have it unlocked and rooted, updated radio, everything has been going quite well. A few weeks back, I settled on a ROM that seemed to work best for me, and I have installed plenty of apps, widgets, and I have the customization down to a T.
But I wish to continue trying out different ROM's. Who knows, I may find something I like even more! As a fallback though, I wish to preserve all the hard work I put into my current setup. I can't find anything definitive about exactly what a Nandroid backup does, but from what I can see, it is implied that it will save all apps, settings, etc. I'm just wondering if that's correct.
So let's I'm running Android 1.6, I do a Nandroid backup, and then I wipe everything and install a compatible Froyo ROM. Would I be able to restore the backup and have everything the same as before? Or, let's say I don't like the ROM, so I wish to return to the same one I'm currently running. When I restore the backup, will it look like I never changed anything at all? Will there be lost apps or settings, or possible broken apps??
Should sound pretty straightforward, but I just want to be 100% sure before I mess around. Thank you all very much
As far as apps & settings try titanium backup, the donate version offers a 1 click back up, comes in pretty handy if you do alot of flashing, there is a free version as well but you have to manually back your stuff up one at a time, which is a pain if you have alot of stuff, but free is free & it is always nice to try before you buy... My back up pro will accomplish the samething, but I prefer titanium as I feel it has a little better options. So nand backup for your roms & titanium for apps and data and you can go nuts flashing and trying out roms with relative ease... The only issues you may run into would be compatibility of apps going from 1.6 to 2+.

A nand backup/restore should get everything back to how it was. Titanium backup is handy for keeping your apps, settings, etc... When switching from rom to rom.

I have a question about NANDROID
ez. I used the ROM: LeeDrOid_V1.9a on my HTC desire. I did a full backup NANDROID. now update the ROM to LeeDroid_v2.2a( this ROM is include a new kernel for overclock to 1113mhz), and do a restore my backup NANDROID.
IT seems everything comes back to V1.9a( I check in " software Information" shows software number is v1.9a, even the kernel is rollback too)
is it normal?
I want to use LeeDroid_v2.2a because it has new kernel for overclock to 1113mhz but I dont want to install all apps again. what should I do?
