iGO8 & Samsung Omnia - Problems... - General Topics

Friends,
I am using iGO 8.00.35389.
It works only in landscape mode. Otherwise it says failed open ui_iog8\120_200\loading.bmp
This problem is faced by many, as I was going through lot of threads and forums.
Those who are enjoying iGO8 on their Omnia can help us.
1. Is it possible to use iGO8 without doing the pre-work of the changing it to landscape?
2. Is it possible to use iGO8 in Portrait mode?
I am sure many of you have YES for atleast one of these questions.
So could you help us please?
We are really fed of searching data.zip & sys.txt and ending up with wrong files.
So Please...
1. Upload the necessary files (I am sure all the files will be less than 10 mb)
2. A step-by-step procedure.
By doing so, you are helping us and proving the very basic purpose of this forum.
Thanks for all your answers!
-Ari

The first one: It will run in both portrait and landscape modes.
The second one: Time zone adjustments are no longer necessary (some earlier version of iGo8 put the phone to "Minsk" time zone).
The necessary files are quite large, definitely far more than 10MB, I got the download from the official supplier.
In the sum, both of your questions can be answered with "yes".

Upgrading to bigstorage for the first time

When uograding to bigstorage for the first time the process can look daunting but fear not, even if, as mine did, it doesnt go as per the screen shots / directions it may still work. Mine did and with the following installed here is what i have ended up with.
SPV M500 / Magician with bigstorage
running are
intellidialier, voice id (extra from extended rom)
Installed are : --
Tomtom 5, Calligrapher, pocket breeze, pocket contact, avantgo, pocket music, and several other small aps not worth mentioning.
I the process went ok using my 1gb card until: ---
As the how-to says the rom size created relfects the size of your card so the rom i was working with was 1gb, I could not use the recommended hex editor with that file due to system resources, let me tell you when you are that far into the process and you cant open the rom it is very annoying. Thankfully there are several other hex editors out there that let you load files up to 4gb allowing for resources but unfortuntely neither my old xp laptop nor my media centre could still open it. I ended up using my powerbook G4 with HexEdit 1.1 which loaded the rom just fine for editing. All the rest went OK until the end of the flsh back to the phone where i got a failed message, after a soft reset it booted into the new rom with no problem.
I have to stress to you guys thinking about trying this, it IS worth it. I am so pleased with the results. After updating and setting up BT Activesync, mms, pop3 etc and with all aps running I have the following: -
Allocated 17.7MB Allocated: 29.70 MB
to use: 11.16MB to use : 14.75MB
Free: 6.55MB Free: 24.95MB
And that is in a running state with no restrictions.
Well done to the community for such good documentation and their desire to share information and allow us newbies to get the most out of these wonderful units.
Hello,
I hope I dont sound like an idiot, but what is a big storage rom?
I have heard it mentioned quite a few times in the forum. I have a Krome Spy ( analog of M500) from australia.
Thanks.
rohseq
Nice to know that you were successful in upgrading to BigStorage. I've done it since the very beginning. My next step would be "nonentity's" File System Tweak.
@rohsek: please search this forum and you will find the answers you need.

With BIG Storage you convert your EXT-rom with operator brandings into extra internal Storage. You actually append about 20MB to the default 7MB Storage folder. Very nice hack.

COuld somebody tell me where I can find the HOW-TO described above??
Aren't there any standard ROMs?? It seems to me that when someone creates a specific ROM for a specific model, this ROM can be used in multiple devices or am I making you  ROFLYAO  by asking this question??
I've also got an Orange SPV M500 (with a huge memory shortage )...
Could someone please help me out??
Thanks in advance!!
Kind regards,
Maarten

A few questions and requests

Hi,
I am quite new to Win Mobile Smartphones, but however I managed to get to a certain point where I started to build my application collection. Unfortunately there are a lot of questions of mine, to which I am not able to find answers, and since this is the biggest community of that kind, which i was able to find (not very easy) i think that it is proper to ask you for your kind assistance , I hope that i would not annoy you. I would try to organize my questions and request as neat as possible. I guess that they would be useful for all HTC Tornado Noobies
1. Please link me to the best Office Suit for the Tornado.
2. I may find quite useful the full version of SK Tools - currently i use a version of the software meant for Pockect PC, it is working, but it actually lacks the feature which arranges the menu in list not a grind ...
3. Skype - I use Fring, but there are too many bugs, unfortunately i did not find a straight forward instruction on how to install skype. I think that IM+ for Skype would do the job, but it is paid .... I need skype for chat only no VoIP intentions.
4. I use Opera Mobile, but if you have came across any better browsing solution - please share it
5. How could i remove anything except the clock, the date and the recently used programs from the home screen, the appointments, messages etc. are quite useless for me.
6. Could i use 4GB SanDisk with the Qtek 8310, and if so would i face any problems.
7.Please share any build quality issues and opinions, which you have experienced, I guess that the weak spots are the Joystics and the screen (it seems so weak to scratches). I am also get quite annoyed by the dust under the screen so please tell would it appear.
Many thanks for the help in advanace!

O2 Xda Exec: upgrade to WM6.1

Good morning all,
I'm a very new member, and I'm looking to upgrade my device to WM6.1.
Details of my device:
O2 Xda Exec, Monthly Contract O2 SIM, WM5.0, OS 5.1.1.1700 (Build 14354.0.1.1), Processor PXA270-520MHz, Memory 49.96MB.
I'm a writer and use Word, Notes (including recordings), Active Sync (Vista Laptop with Windows Mobile Device Centre, email (hotmail and ntl), phone, texting, camera--I think that's all.
My biggest problems with 5.0 are that I can't edit Word 2007 documents (.docx) and can't use SDHC cards. So really, I want a basic (vanilla?) version that behaves pretty well like the proprietory product. I'm not really too interested in lots of additional apps.
Bearing in mind that I'm very much a user, I'd be very grateful if somebody could advise me as to a ROM that's:
a) stable;
b) easy to install;
c) has all the features of 6.1; and finally
d) not too many whizz-bangs.
I appreciate that a lot of time, effort and expense goes into producing the ROMs--so I'm prepared to make a comensurate donation.
Cheers,
Plantaen.
I think Tomal 8.2 will do for you. Its the most stable and fast ROM I have come accross. Another new version from TOmal is in Beta 2 stage. May be you can upgrade to that as well once the final version released.
Read Wiki
Would first advise you to go through Wiki and understand what you are trying to do and find whether your Universal (O2 XDA Exec) is fully unlocked etc.,
Read as much as you can in Wiki as it helps to prevent future messup as anything going wrong could end up your Uni just a costly paper weight.
Tomal's ROMs are great and once you are sure that your phone is fullly unlocked in all respects, you can try any flavour starting from 7.7 through 8.5
Hope this helps.
Regards
I would recommend Tomal's Vanilla version: http://vidmes.com/xda/Uni/ROMs/Tomal...960_VANILA.exe. Give that a try and see how you like it.

if you look for serious word editing, I would suggest you to use the softmaker http://www.softmaker.com/english/
Regarding a ROM.. I would suggest Tomal V 7.6 or 7.7. my personal favoured is V7.7.
Anyhow before doing something on the rom read carefully and bring you up to speed. I heart upgrade on Vista cn be tricky so you need to find info and make sure you have at least bootlaoder > v1
Maybe U don't need to upgrade your ROM
Hi, Plantaen.
I think maybe U don't need too upgrade Ur ROM, U can try these :
1. file : PsiDocSDHC.cab, so U can read Ur SDHC Card In Ur Uni in ROM WM 5, like I do. U can search this file in this ROM.
2. I think U can save as Ur document in doc format, rather than docx format.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Hi, i used the "http://vidmes.com/xda/Uni/ROMs/Tomal/TML_v82_WM61_19960_VANILA.exe" to upgrade my XDA Executive and after the upgrade was over it asked me to soft reset my device, i did that and the screen displays Press '0' to restore factory settings or 'X' to cancel. the device is non responsive after that, pressing '0' or 'x' just exits and the device doesn't reboot. How can i now use my device? Please help.

you're lucky, I 've seen that ROM in http://www.mediafire.com/?ix0z22bttv9

larger qwerty keyboard

is there a landscape qwerty input type available that has larger keys?
Resco's Keyboard is Full Screen when in portrait mode. All keyboard vary in functionality. I personally like EzInput because of its simplicity. Other keyboards seem to throw too many options and stuff in there to please everyone.
Simplicity is the reason why the iPhones SIP keyboard is considered awesome (plus the compacitive screen)
I'm very new to the world of Windows Mobile, (i used to work with android/iPhone OS)
It's probably a stupid question, but how do i install EzInput?
Thanks in advance!
read 2nd answer
My diamond2 is 6.1, so it doesn't have EzInput.
Do you have a link/tutorial to flash it to 6.5?
Stupid questions don't exist mate Everyone has to start from the beginning. A good beginning is the search option and the wiki, that's how i learned a lot.
Now to get back to your question, look here for a lot of info on ezinput as well as other keyboards:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534678&highlight=ezinput
Thanks for the help.
I searched already on this forum / on the internet, but I didn't find any clear posts.
I'll try those links
I think I installed EzInput now, but I don't see any change of the keyboard...
Do I have to change a setting or something else?
(Do you have a link where I can see/read how to flash 6.5 on my diamond?)
I guess yours came default with that.
Well ofcourse i've got a link for you but first...
A quick guide:
Select your phone here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
Read everything you can find about flashing cooked rom's, radio's and hardspl
The choice of your radio is very personal, it's different for each country but very important 'cause it basically give you good signal
The choice of the cooked rom is very personal. Some put speed over graphics whilst others like it the other way around
It's very important and the first step of flashing to start with HardSPL'ing your device. If you don't start with that you won't be able to do anything with 6.5
After that you can choose your rom and read all the info that the cook (a rom builder) has provided for the users, there are quite some differences and things to know and learn about roms in these posts. To install a rom you need CustomRUU (installer) and some even support flashing from your microsd card.
The last part is to always hard-reset your device after you've completed 1 of the 3 basic steps. Be aware that you'll loose all the data on your phone, it's basically to turn i to the first point after you've installed the rom. So don't start installing things right away...first try a few roms 'cause you might like another one better.
Last but not least, the radio, well my friend you'll just have to read about it 'cause it depends on your region etc. That one can be flashed after you've done the first 2 steps and it basically goes the same way as flashing a rom. But first things first...start your search for hardspl!
I've taken all these steps for example from the topaz. Some devices might have other routines,...i focus on my device only, 'cause otherwise it's just too much info.. and all the info that's on this forum might be confusing at first (let's face it, there's a lot of info.) But nevertheless, my experience is that people are willing to help others here. There's a solution for everything here, if you know how and where to look.
Start reading and have fun...

Open up your standard keyboard (in SMS for example), click on the small arrow next to the middle keyboard icon and go to "Other input options".
EzInput should be listed there, select it and youÆre good to go!
If you wish to set EzInput as default keyboard, even after restart of your device, use SIP change application. Remember to set the time-delay to 40-50 seconds!

Hi Dermann.
Have you heard anything from Da_G re wm6.5 for the i607 ???
I tried contacting him once on this matter through private message but got no reply and now on top of that txcaesar had undergone a major face-lift leaving no track for blackjack related information.

OK, googled it again and there is a new post about wm6.5 for i607 by py8 at ZN520 website.
source
http://www.zn520.com/viewthread.php?tid=1140
translated via google:
http://translate.google.com/transla...d.php?tid=1140&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&history_state0=
PS - translation is sometimes very funny but most important brush == Cook
The ROM is English/Chinese
I will try to login there and check.
I was able to login but cannot understand where to download the file from. Anyone here has experience with downloading files from zn520 (or at list is able to read Chinese and retrieve the file for us ?)
i've been i contact with Da_G and he has a working 6.5 working already but as dermann said the keypad doesn't work "yet" and thats something big haha he sent me a link of the kitchen that hes using and as soon as i get home ill post it here so if anybody wants to help or figure out how to get the keypad working that would be great cause everyone would benefit from it.

Hi Aitrus,
Well I already know about the keypad issue and Da_G is certainly very known for for his great abilities producing awesome ROMs as well as cooking them with efficient memory allocation.
I do not understand whether the i607 shares the same dll's as the i600 for keypad, which could be extracted from Noksers/PY8 i600 ROM.
If not another possibility is to extract the necessary files from the PY8 new ROM for i607 which is not clean since it is English/Chinese ROM. However I do not know where to get it from. It does not appear on PY8 private blog and I cannot find the link for downloading it from zn520.com although I registered and logged in.
What do you suggest ?
to be honest i dont know im in the same boat as all of you the only reason Da_G keeps me updated on his progress is because i sent him a bj1 to work on other than that... Da_G thinks that its not the .dll thats not working but the tools hes tried changing them a few times but no dice i dont know chinese either but ill try to find the link on that site as well if anyone is interested heres Da_Gs kitchen for the bj1.

That's great.
In the meantime I discovered PY8 is also a member of this community so I will try to bring this thread to his attention so he might be able to assist us.

Yes just saw your post there.
I suspect there is some sort of user rights system in their website for determining who is entitled to download (not that I know how to gain this authorization).
You can see at the bottom of the text a small lock icon accompanied by text that translates to "The posts need to hide the contents of the reply before they can browse"- I guess this is the hidden link. Biggest question is what does one has to do in order to gain these rights.
Good luck guys
The keyboard issue is the last thing remaining in that Kitchen posted earlier, I suspect it may be a VM allocation issue related to the age of the BJ's kernel.. but not really sure.
If that can be fixed, it's ready to rock
thanks to lovebabyjing, i was able to download the 6.5 rom at that website. but it wasn't without effort. i have asked if he will translate the .txt file that came with it. and as soon as he or someone else does that for me i will let you all know how it is.

Think I am 1 step ahead of you.
The text file contains a link to the following web hosting:
http://wolfishor.qupan.com/4953513.html
again Chinese only.... I logged there as well but still cannot download the required file "ZN520_[SGH-i607]WM6.5_21854_20091022_MSYH.7z"
Please take care not to download any suspicious exe if being suggested...
The site shows three download buttons. Two which wants to install suspicious mallwares and one that looks like VIP under payment.
If you get any further from this - let me know
Edited:
OK according to the images posted in the link below there should be a fourth green button to do the download but I don't see it when I log in

EDIT!!! alright, here you go guys. PY8's i607 WinMo 6.5 Rom. keep in mind that this is a "Chinese rom." ..........LINK..........
*Instructions from starca's rom, but they still apply*
*NOTE THIS STEP NEED ONLY BE DONE ONCE, TO LOAD THE DRIVERS* - Disable USB Connectivity in ActiveSync under File - Connections, MAKE SURE you have the modem/flash drivers installed. (Connect phone in modem mode by settings -> connections -> usb -> modem, install drivers). Do not forget to close wcescomm.exe and wcesmgr.exe for Activesync.
1.) Boot up device in flashing mode by holding down right soft key, "camera" button located on right side of phone, and power simultaneously.
2.) Run included program "I600_v1.1_Single.exe"
3.) Connect device to computer. Yellow color in program should change color.
4.) Click "PDA" button. Choose included file "ZN520_[SGH-i607]WM6.5_21854_20091022_MSYH.bin"
5.) Check Phone Initialization(EFS Clear). Make sure EFS CLEAR and PDA are the only one checked
5.) Click "Start Download"
6.) When device shows "Phase 2 ------- [PASS]" Flash is done. It should auto-reboot quickly.
7.) First boot will be slow so be patient.
8.) Goodluck
after your booted, go find setting and go to number 6 of the first page and switch it to US English and reboot. i've already sent Da_G the link so he can try to get the keypad to work and a WWE rom.
BIG! Thanks to lovebabyjing for getting me the download link.

OK in the meanwhile below is a translation from the attached txt file courtesy of Google translate..
Notice two interesting things
1. it is basd on Stacra's old BJC4.3 ROM
2. They talk about issues with layered windows - and mention reg keys to control it
Solemnly declare:
The ROM for the "smart - I love you (www.zn520.com)" Original, as in this basis re-packaged DUMP changes, please note! Protest and scorn for "bull å-style" plagiarism!
This ROM only to learn, test! Station does not triggered any problems or losses. Web forums, such as the need reproduced, distributed, available for download, please reference.

About LayeredWindows:
In the 617 version of the WM6.5 experience shows mentioned LayeredWindows, then what is the LayeredWindows it?
1, can be translated literally as "window layer" "Layer Window," "layered window", is a new WM6.5 features, in the registry by the following values to open on / off:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ GWE]
"EnableLayeredWindows" = dword: 1
2, if opened EnableLayeredWindows, being learned, WM6.5 at the interface with the original WM6.1 has the following differences:
I. WM 6.5 wait for animated icons and transparent. Required to be open LayeredWindows, or else wait for animated icon will "become" very rough, the background black. To this end. WM6.5 trial version disable LayeredWindows, using resources in a way replaced with WM6.1 solve the "rough" animated icon in the issue abandoned the transparent effect.
II. WM6.5 achieve PPC style menu effect. Required to be open LayeredWindows, otherwise invalid. Of the original quote is as follows:
http://www.ioicn.com.cn/forum/viewthread.php?tid=336430&highlight=WM6.5% B2% CB% B5% A5
3, WM6.5 sliding under the theme of imitation of Titanium under the PPC do not need to LayeredWindows
