Contact Photos - compression - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hello!
When I choose a contact photo for anyone, it gets awefully compressed. It does not look close as crisp and clear as the placeholder which come with the pro/diamond...
Any suggestions how to change this.

Hi, i had the same. I removed the photo and re-added it and they were crrrrisp!

Same thing...use right hard key, select "change photo", select the same photo, and it will be crisp. That or when you add a favorite that has no photo, and you select one for the first time, it is nice and clear.
Good luck

Is there a way to sync the outlook contacts so that the photos that are within Outlook appear crisp on the Touch Pro? I noticed that this does not work very well. If you add a picture in Outlook and sync it, it is always compressed and ugly.
If you add the photo on the PPC within Pocketoutlook it is the same (or what is your experience?).
If you open a contact in the favorites and add a picture there, it becomes crisp... if you change it in the favorites by using the camera or the PocketOutlook interface it is ugly and compressed again...
Any solution for that?

After I added the favorite, I then selected Change Picture to get the clear picture. Once sync'd with Outlook, both the PC and Phone are very clear.

where are the pictures on my phone?

I add my pictures in my PC outlook and then sync to the TP.
After sync, pictures on TP do not look same quality as on PC.
I can not re-add the picture on TP, as I can not find them on the device.
Any knows where contact pictures are stored on TP after sync?
With more than 100 contact photos, however, I had the hope the is another solution to have crisp photos on TP without any manual work.

Good point that I forgot to mention...I did have to add a folder on my SD called "Outlook Contacts" to do it the way I did. I have 245 contacts with photos, so it did take some time. However, I only have 15 favorites, so that is the only ones I did this process with. Didn't take too long, but does require that step to get the pretty pic on the TP. Worth the effort. Once you load them in your favorites, just delete the folder (unless you need a hard reset, or cooked ROM installed. I kept my folder for when it all disappears, and have to redo it.

Somebody knows a good solution for the picture problem?

Read the above post...put the pictures on the device. After adding the favorite, go to "Menu", then select "Change Picture". Select the picture you moved to your device (or MicroSD), and it is as clear as the rest of the device.

yeah so far no faster way of doing this, but the good news is once u do this once, and sync, you're good to go

Yes there is a faster easier way!
This problem bugged me for a very long time. Until I used the free application called "Slide2View"
Found on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358187
If you view a photo in this app and select the 'Assign to Contact' option, the photo will be assigned and will not be affected when you sync with Outlook.
Don't ask me why this works (I am not technically minded) but I searched for a solution and after reading 100's of forum messages found this gem. It's also a very cool photo viewer!
After many re-syncs, my contact pictures are all unchanged!

This problem has been around for a long time and it seems like Outlook (and Outlook Mobile) tends to resize the pictures.
And don't edit the contacts in outlook or you have to reassign the pictures for the same HQ pictures again.

if u know the anz help the man and stop acting like a prick i think the way to go is get the file name s2u2 and this will solve ur problem check dutty cabs for this file
s2u2 gives you big pictures for caller ID? I thought it only did the slide to unlock.
use pocketCM to add pictures (size 240x320) to your contacts, then turn on the option of Full Screen callerID in S2U2 and you'll see how nice it is.
take a look at mine.

I just tried PocketCM, its pretty cool but is there a program that I can add pictures to my contacts by using my PC instead of having to change the pics for contacts on the phone?
It would be much easier IMO to do it on a PC since most of my pictures are stored there anyway and I could resize easier also.
If you have the office suite on your pc then you should use outlook after syncing your kaiser. once contacts are synced, it's as simple as double clicking on the contact and adding the desired picture.

not if you want to add the qvga photos
Outlook will turn your great looking photos of qvga size into pathetic looking photos. Resize all your contact pictures on the computer, put them in the Storage Card\DCIM\ then start adding pictures to contacts.

facebook sync without pictures/last names

just out of curiosity since i can't find an option.
Is there any possible way to enable the facebook sync but NOT use the facebook pictures and/or last names
It seems that once it syncs theres no possible way to change it since everytime i change a picture or a last name it just gets added right back on.
but i do like seeing the status updates and having the quick link to the profiles, i just hate the other stuff it does
it'd be nice if the facebook sync just added info to the standard gmail contact card and not "sync it with another account"..i wish it would allow you to delete facebook phone numbers and save email addresses from facebook to the gmail contact card and save contact pics and names easily..this feature needs a lot of work imo...
yeah. well judging from the no yes answers i'm just going to assume that this is impossible
For pictures, YES it's possible and easy to do!
Background:
I have my Gmail contacts with pictures I customized for each contact.
Contacts with Facebook have their own pictures and get automatically chosen as the default picture if Facebook Sync is enabled.
Here's how to fix it.
1. Launch CONTACTS and select the contact that has the facebook picture.
2. Press MENU, then EDIT CONTACT.
3. You will notice that the contact picture that is NOW SHOWN is the original gmail contact picture!
4. TAP on the picture, and choose "USE THIS PHOTO".
5. Tap DONE, now your gmail contact picture is the default picture!
You have to do this to all your Facebook contact pictures that you don't want.

[Q] How do I remove synced photo folders from Skydrive?

Somehow, I have folders with photos on my PC, which have synced to Skydrive photos, which are now synced to my WP7 (Focus). I wish to discontinue this. How do I remove synced photo folders from Skydrive?
Also, when I open “Pictures” on my WP7, the device seems to randomly pick photos to display as wallpaper. I don’t want this to happen with certain folders. Is there a way to exclude specific photo folders on my device to be used as wallpaper in “Pictures”?
Thanks,
Dave
To remove the skydrive pictures, you need to login to your live account (live.com).
for the second query, go to the pictures hub and long tap on the top left where it says pictures. you will get 2 options, change background and change it for me. choose the picture you like in change background
Awesome! This will flat-out work to stop the “Pictures” app from using photos not of my choosing as wallpaper. The pictures in question however are not Skydrive photos, but reside in folders I have synced via Zune. I would like to be able to select specific folders from which wallpaper could not be selected, but this is certainly a solution to my dilemma.
I actually desire to remove all Skydrive photo folders from Skydrive and thus, my WP7, but I can’t figure out how to do this.
Thank you for your help,
Dave
I'm guessing that you want to remove the pictures that you synced to skydrive using your phone:? If so, you can logon to skydrive.live.com and remove them

No Sir, not so much. I want to remove all of my photo folders from Skydrive. I don’t want the folders to show-up in my Skydrive. More importantly, I don’t want any folders entitled “from windows live” to show-up when I go to “Pictures” on my WP7. It makes absolutely no difference to me if I achieve this using my lap-top or my WP7. I wish to use only Zune to sync photos to my WP7.
Thanks,
Dave

ICS Highres contact pictures

Can this finally mean the 5 year old Google *bug* is solved?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-now-official/
"Refreshed people app with social network integration, status updates and hi-res images"
No more crappy resolution contact images for Google contacts? I can't wait to see incoming call photo to be displayed with proper pixel resolution.
Could someone check this on ICS? Maybe the contact image resolution specs are in the SDK?
~220 views but found the answer myself:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.html
"Large photos
Android now supports high resolution photos for contacts. Now, when you push a photo into a contact record, the system processes it into both a 96x96 thumbnail (as it has previously) and a 256x256 "display photo" that's stored in a new file-based photo store (the exact dimensions that the system chooses may vary in the future). You can add a large photo to a contact by putting a large photo in the usual PHOTO column of a data row, which the system will then process into the appropriate thumbnail and display photo records"

The question is does HTC Sync actually sync high-res pictures with Outlook?

But how? I can't make it in contacts app. Even if I select high quality photo its pixalated in contacts list or call screen. Am I missing something here?
I always use Outlook to sync my contacts! On GB Roms they look fine but on ICS the pictures totaly blury and full of pixels.
EDIT: Just have tested it if htey are better when i make a new contact and add a new Picture, but no the photo is totaly blury and looks very very bad!
Many so called high res photos look like **** when you crop out a persons face btw. So don't crop too much.

[Q] Default picture for contacts

Hello,
I have many phone book accounts synchronized on my phone (Google, Funambol, Twitter, etc.) and I would like to know if it is possible to set the default picture for all the address book.
In other words, I would like that every contact would show the picture which is memorized in my Funambol Account.
I know that to modify the picture I can go to the single contact's details, press the "chain" (which means such contact is linked) and select the picture I want to be shown, but this is not persistent and I have to re set every time the picture to the one I want.

Even i would like to find out if there is any way you can automate this process to set pic account by default rather than doing it manually for the 600 or so contacts i have...
With Syncmypic you can add Facebook contact pictures to your phonebook. Maybe there is a tool like this for you in the market.
Mmm. An option for default source or sources with selectable priority would be nice

It sounds very strange to me that Android doesn't have something to customize that! I don't think it would be so difficult to implement.
Maybe send this as a wish list item to your favorite ROM dev?
