You may remember my previous article on playing back RMVB (RealMedia Variable Bitrate) videos on Windows Mobile. Back then, the only hack available was pretty much useless: it only ran on Marvell (ex-Intel) Xscale CPU's and delivered a really inferior performance (very low video speed, useless for watching anything).
A brand new version has just been released, which works much faster and, according to other reports, other (not only Xscale) platforms too. You can download it HERE, from the first post (do NOT download the CAB file in the fourth post, it won't work!). Copy the contents of the ZIP file on a storage card or a directory on your handset. Fire up File Explorer on your mobile and make sure "Show all files" is enabled. It's disabled by default; enable it by tap-and-holding an empty area anywhere – for example, at the bottom of any listing – and selecting "Show all files" from the context menu. Then, select all the files and Copy them (either the context menu or Menu / Edit / Copy). Go to \Windows on your mobile and select Menu / Edit / Paste your files to this directory. Alternatively, you can just copy the files via an ActiveSync connection; for example, via Total Commander's WinCE FS plug-in.
Now, you'll still need to import the registry file, rmvb.reg, into the Registry. If you have a REGEDIT 4-compliant, import-capable registry editor on your handset, you can do this directly. If you, on the other hand, only have a REGEDIT 5-compliant one (like Resco File Explorer or SOTI's Pocket Controller on your desktop computer), you'll need THIS file I've created for you instead of the one coming with the original distribution. (Please see my Registry Editor bible for more info.)
NOTE: unlike with the previous and, in other respects, much inferior plug-in, this one has some compatibility problems: it just displays "The parameter is incorrect" with some of the videos; for example, the hotel_california _ra5.1_640x480_30s.rmvb test video I used in my previous article (and this one too):

Other users have also reported this problem. Also note that many users have also reported audio/video synchronization problems.
I hate having to remember people still encode their stuff in RMVB. Thanks for your drivers!

Why don't they switch to H.264 / HE-AACv2? It's far superior in every respect...

I’ve just been asked in the Smartphone & PPC Mag VIP section (where I’m the lead helper) of how you can easily change your upper / lower / scrollbar colors on WM5+ (WM5, WM6, WM6.1 etc.) Windows Mobile devices with touchscreens (NOT models without them!), also often referred to as the “base hue”.
I’ve published a lot of system color-related information back in the pre-WM5 days (see for example THIS). In WM5, the situation has changed drastically with the introduction of the “base hue”. This means old utilities and Registry hacks no longer work under WM5+. Fortunately, there are a lot of tools to help the situation.
Probably the easiest (and free!) way of doing this is getting VJBaseHue from HERE. To do this, download the CAB file at the bottom and also download “Example themes by ZeBoxx”. Install the former to the built-in storage of your device (NOT to a storage card) so that you don’t need to modify the .lnk files in the latter, ZeBoxx file.
Now, uncompress the contents of the ZeBoxx file and copy the lnk files to anywhere on your Windows Mobile phone; I recommend \Windows\Start Menu\Programs or a subdirectory of them so that you can easily access them from the Start menu. Now, by just going to clicking Start / Programs (or the folder you’ve created) and clicking any of these links, the color of the upper/lower/scroll bars immediately change.
Just some examples:
A QVGA Pocket PC Phone Edition (Windows Mobile Professional in the new, WM6+ parlance) device with black base hue:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, clicking the “Magneta” link makes the base hue to magneta as can be seen in the following screenshot:
Note that you can use any color (not just the pre-defined ones in the ZeBoxx file) if you follow the tutorial on the homepage.
VGA Patches for Microphone, Power, WLan Mgr, & WModem for X7510 using Real VGA 96dpi
VGA Patches for X7510 using Real VGA.
1.....Download the attached files.
2.....Transfer the files to your SD card or Flash Disk.
3.....Use Total Commander or any file manager to transfer the files in the Windows folder to replace the original files.
4.....Once all is done, SOFT RESET.
Enjoy!
X7500 and X7501 models can also use the files as long as they rename the attached files similar to the files from the Windows folder prior to transferring them to make sure it will overwrite the original files.
To revert back to the original files, just delete them and then soft reset.
In New York with x7510
I'm in New York on the first day of a week without notebook computer. I've managed to download and install the WLANMgr file directly to the x7510, wihout the use of a PC sitting in the middle. Thank you cktlcmd.
I've now got the Real VGA set to 96dpi and am viewing XDA site in full format on a 3G connection which according to DSLReports speed test is averaging between 700 and 800 kbs. That is a much better speed than iBAHN which is offered in the hotel - between 200 & 280 kbs.
Keyboard is great (although I'm no touch typist). Let's see how the week goes when some e-mails etc. start to roll in!
Once again let's push for a separate 7510 section to the Athena forum. I'm sure that the smart guys & girls can make this baby go even better.
Don't forget the Comm Manager fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403692
How to replace the patches?
1. We don't have the rights to replace the patch since those files are ready only. How?
2. Can they fix the microphone issue of coming phone?

1. NO, these are cosmetic patches only. You can use Total Commander to replace them. They came from the HTC Universal. Personally, I only use the WLAN and WModem patches since those 2 look garbled in Real VGA at 96 dpi. With these patches, at least they look better.
2. I don't have any microphone issues on mine.
thank you fpr shere~~~
I am still very happy with the contacts scrolling interface called 'htc random access'.

It is the grey alphabetical selection-field on the right side that is
much easier than the grey scroll one.

Sorry don't have one.
I wanted to free up more device memory, but the Office6.1 CABs (I could find) would only install to the device. So I edited the CAB I had, to give you the choice (device or storage card).
It seems to work OK. The shortcuts, on the start menu, weren't pointing to the new location... but I think I have fixed that. Not sure what happens on non-english devices.
The only bugbear I have found is, hitting the new button in Word generates an error. I think it is because the default template is in the wrong place. So if anyone can shed some light on that, I would be grateful. It's not a biggie tho' I just created a document called "blank.doc" and open that instead.
I'm sure someone will come along now and say, "there is already a CAB that does this".... but I did spend two days looking for one!
Here it is,
MSOffice2007onStorageCard.zip
so this will extract the files from my device including the corresponding templates and place on storage card for use?
or is this the full MSoffice2007 install that allows you to save to storage card?
Sorry, my bad.
you will have to uninstall your office 2007 suite and reinstall, using this CAB.
HTH
=====
I think the problem with Word not opening the new file is because I neglected to make the CAB change the registry entries for the office programs in their new locations. I just tried to start a random DOC file from File Explorer and got the same error (but can open it from inside Word). Same problem with Excel and PP too. Harrumph!
Which keys do I need to change?
=====
Changed the file associations for documents and workbooks by hand using Total Commander... it's a kludge for the problem above, works tho'.
Still can't get the 'New' button to do its job in word mind.
How do you un-install the office suite?....doesn't allow me to delete the files individually. And active sync doesn't give me the option to un-install either.
Start\Settings\System\Remove Programs
I am running CRCinAU's WM6.1 ROM, not sure if Office is uninstallable on other ROMs... so YMMV.
Hang on a mo... I am editing registry entries in the CAB. I will upload a new version in a few minutes.

=====EDIT=====
Dammandblast - I screwed up the registry entries... it's late, bed is calling me.
The file above will work, but you need to point the file associations in the new direction.
I will get back to this at a civilised hour.
Found a CAB that does the job properly, on this thread

Hi all,
I'd like to now if/how it's possible to open multiple windows in Internet Explorer Mobile. I found "NoNewWindows" in de registry and changed it to 0 but that didn't change anything.
I would like to use it together with iMangager to have a tab-based browsing experience in IE.
Thanks,
Joren
I don't think PIE supports tabs. It would be sweet if it did, though.
Awwww...
But does winmo support opening the same app multiple times? Like regular windows does? (many instances of same exe)
Is there really noone who knows wether or not it's possible to open many instances of the same application in winmo?
(sorry for the bump)

Notes
This program has been developed using Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0.7045.0, which is required to run it. Only this version will work as there are numerous bugs in previous versions, as well as this one, but this is the one that is most stable and enables the functionality to open new tabs.
Favourites are managed by Pocket Internet Explorer.
There is a known issue when navigating, the back/forward buttons do not function correctly. For example, when you click on a link for the first time you should be allowed to "go back". However, due to bugs in Microsoft .NET Compact 2.0 this does not register correctly that you can "go back". However, there is a workaround, which is to go to another tab and then return. This then registers correctly.

PS4 MP4 Server v1.1
Description:
I was unable to find a media server app for the PS4, although I do use one for the Xbox 360 & PS3. Using this app you'll be able to stream your mp4 video files to your PS4.
How it works:
Using the browser on your PS4, you'll be able to watch your mp4 files. This app generates a web page that utilizes html5 to embed your videos directly into a web page. All you need to do is follow a few simple steps and your set!
**First off, this is only for local playback. Meaning you need to be on a wifi connection, and only other devices on the same network can interact with it**
Getting Started:
1. Download, install, then open the app (obviously)
2. Tap the "Add New Movie..." button
3. Navigate to your file and select it
Repeat steps 2-3 for each additional movie
4. Tap the "Create" button to generate the index.html file for the web page
5. Start the server
6. On your PS4 web browser, navigate to the link shown in the app (tap to refresh)
7. Select a movie and it will automatically start playing. (the first movie is automatically loaded when the page loads but will not auto play)
8. Tap "Stop Server" when your done
Additional Notes:
*when browsing for a file, only folders and mp4 files are shown
*each time the Create button is used, the list of files are saved.
*upon start, the previous file list will be loaded
*tap a file in the list to remove it
*use create after adding/removing a file to save the list and update your server page
*computers, and/or other devices, on the local network can also view the web page if they are using an html5 compatible browser
*the embedded video player has a full screen button, but...
*the embedded player only has two other buttons, play/pause & restart
*first update will have a custom created seek bar
I created this in a few hours so please don't expect it to be perfect. Feel free to post any issues and I'll try to address them quickly.
Download
Step 6 is incorrect at the moment. I forgot to add a label to display the web address and port (8080). I will fix this tomorrow since its already 1am. If you know your local ip then you can still use this. For myself, I navigate to:
http://192.168.1.2:8080
Edit: this has been fixed and the link has been updated. I also added an icon for the app

Has anyone tried this or is it an unneeded app? I'm just trying to figure out if I should continue working on it or not. Thanks.
Just seeing it, the idea is very nice due to the ps4 not having a video player streaming yet.
Would it be possible to stream files on a NAS to the ps4 aswell or would that be too difficult?

Honestly I'm not sure. I've never used a NAS before, but I know what it is. As it is currently, only mp4s on the internal sd card are being used, I still have to add support for the external. I will take a look into it though.
Haven't tried it yet, but yeah this is a great idea. Anyway to add other video formats ? That be nice.
I wish I could add support for other formats but since were using a video player through html5, we can only use what it supports. Mp4 is the only common video format for now. There are a couple others that html5 supports but they are less commonly used (webm, ogg). Check here if your curious. Avi would be nice but there are hundreds of codecs to play them, so html5 doesn't support it.
