[Q] Charge Problem

My Fuze doesn't charge when connected to charger or connected to sync cable, I notice that when i connect to the charger and leave for a while the battery percentage remains the same, if i reset the phone the battery level will show a higher percentage, number would decrease but never would it increase when charger is plugged, to see the increased figure i have to reset the phone. For example, if my battery power is 1% and i plug the charger to the phone, it will remain at 1% the battery icon wont even come on, nor does the LED indicator, If i reset the phone then i would see say 20%, if i reset right away then it would show eaither a higher figer like 37% or a lower figure like 11%. I really dont whats wrong.
If we leave the battery display.
Could you confirm whether your battery is getting charged or not. I mean charger or connector is working.
How old is your battery? Could it have been over discharged?

Yes the battery is getting charge, it just doesn't show the percentage increase nor does it show the fork like icon when the charger is connected, and its doesnt sync. However The battery does get charge.

I have two batteries, one that i normally use, which is abt a year old. the other that i charge as a spare and carry with me every once in a while is abt 6 months old, and the i have tried them both,i get the same results.

Those of you having battery meter issues - the ones that dont move

Seems I fixed mine. I had put an extended battery on this guy, and it would never change in battery level. I would have to reboot the phone to get it to register the new power level.
Discharge your phone to 0% until it shuts off. Try to turn the phone on several times to make sure its discharged (should shut off immediately). Charge the phone to 100% without unplugging it (will take a while, do it over night).
Today my % seems to be registering and no need to reboot the phone to change it. HTC tech support claimed they had nothing to do with the battery manufacturing so they wont help you.
if you reboot your phone how accurate is it to the actual battery meter showing you the percentage? I am at 6 percent left on my phone in hopes of discharging it and than charging it full to get mine to work

It will still probably jump down about 10% but it will sit there for a LONG time until the system is actually to that percent. My recommendation is dont reboot the phone if you want to keep accurate %. The rebooted value I dont believe indicates actual battery life remaining. There is a communication problem between the phone and the battery - HTC confirmed this is going to be patched (on the phone with them last night).

Z5 battery loses charge when left charging at "100 %"

I have noticed that when i plug my Z5 in to charge overnight, it will charge to full in just a few hours and then remain plugged in for the next ~6 hours until i unplug the phone 'fully charged" in the morning.
My theory is that the phone loses charge (maybe to protect the battery?) when left plugged in at full charge.
I will only get 3 hours SOT max if i leave my phone charging overnight. But if i unplug my Z5 as soon as it is fully charged i get 5 + hours SOT.
Also, often when i plug my phone into charge at 1 or 2 %, it sometimes actually causes my battery to die, before the phone boots again and starts to charge. Does anyone else notice this?
I am using the stock sony UCH 20 charger with came with my Z5.
What do you guys think?
That does sound peculiar. It should be noted that while it is normal for the phone to protect the battery by cycling between 90% and 100% when plugged in (battery gauge doesn't account for this, that's why it appears full all the time), it definitely shouldn't cause a 40% difference in SOT even if you happened to unplug when the battery is at 90 percent.
Yes, you're right. Once the battery is charged to 100%, the phone stops charging and will let the battery drop to around 92% and once it hits 92% it will start charging again to 100%. Even if you unplug the phone when it's showing 100% after charging at night, it might actually be charged to 93% for example. That's why very often people complain that the first 10% of the battery drops very quickly, while in fact it's just the battery meter catching up with the battery charge. This is done to protect the battery and ensure it retains charge after many cycles.
Regardless of that, the difference should not be that huge. For me it's usually extra 30 minutes SOT.
It seems the stock firmware has a load of random wakelocks but I have hope that a soon to come update will fix most of the issues, if you are rooted I suggest that you use greenify or amplify (reqires xposed)

Battery health

One thing i've always wanted to know is if we plug our phones at 100% battery it still uses power from the battery and keep charging it over and over. Or if it uses power directly of the wall without consuming battery.
I want to use my phone for longer periods but im worried about battery health in the long run

The common recommendation for battery health on most smartphones with Li ion battery, is to charge often (avoid deep discharge/charge cycles), and not leave it on the charger for long periods of time when it is fully charged.
When connected to the charger and fully charged, it will let the battery drop slightly, then recharge, over and over again. I've seen the battery meter on this phone drop down from 100% to 99% when connected to the charger. Although I have a feeling it is doing this a lot more than you would be able to detect from the % meter.

I see, so no aparent benefit in using it with power cable conected.
thank you

In fact, more likely to be harmful than beneficial. I'd say it is better to use it for a while, let the charge drop (say down to 60-80%) than recharge to full, and disconnect the charger (don't leave it charging after it is full).
I should add that this is somewhat debatable. I don't follow all these rules myself. I'm pretty sloppy about putting the phone on the charger when I go to bed, and not unplugging it until I wake up. So plugged in for 8 hours or so, when it only takes 1-2 hours to charge to full. And we all drain the battery pretty low from time to time. So again, the is the deep discharging that should generally be avoided.
But if you want general guidelines or "best practice" than there it is.
I think its good idea to leave phone charging
If you want to charge the battery to the top end, you can charge it to 100%, let half a hour for the battery to cool and for the ions to set into some equilibrium state, and then you can charge it for a little bit more. (The battery percentage will not necessarily show it. The battery voltage is not all the time 100% correlated with its electric charge).
But as redpoint73 said, the common recommendation for Li ion battery is to disconnect it from charger while full.

Need help, weird battery problem

Hi everyone, im having a problem with this phone:
1- Charging the phone never reach 100% in one charge, it always stops charing at a random number, for example 70%, no matter how much time i let the phone charging it never goes past that. The solution is unplug and plug again, then it reaches 100%.
2- The number 1 is not a big deal but this is. The phone automatically turn off at a random number again, let say 66%, and i cant turn it on. If i connect the phone to the charger it says 0% battery. Is not like the % freezes at 66% and i use it all day and then turn off. For example, i have the phone at 100%, i start using it and i see the % going down like normal and after an hour or two of using it suddenly turn off and im not able to turn it on again because the battery is at 0%.
I tried:
Hard reset, wiping cache, data.
Hard reset, wiping cache, data and installing the latest stock rom.
New battery.
Different charger.
I have no idea what else to try, anyone have a clue?
Thanks!
I think the battery is broken, also had the problem. Then I bought me one on Ebay for 9,99€ and now everything is good again.
Try using a -known- good cable and charger.
Make sure the port contacts are clean and debris free. Always charge with screen off.
You can also try powering the phone off and see if this alters its charging pattern.
My best guess...
When it auto shuts down again pull the battery and measure its actual voltage to determine if it's at about 6%.
If actual voltage indicates it's at 6%* may be a bad battery (limited capacity) or a hardware failure (shutting the charge cycle down prematurely).
If battery actually has 20% or higher when the phone shuts down) it indicates a hardware failure in the phone.
If battery temp exceeds about 102°F during charging the phone will abort the charge; make sure this isn't the cause. A hot charging battery in a cool room could indicate a battery or hardware failure. If battery temp exceeds 107°F or so in operation the phone may also auto shutdown.
Excessive cold (>32°F) will effect battery capacity severely.
Don't charge a cold Li battery (under 70°F).
Never charge if at or below freezing**.
Li's like a charge temp range of 80-95°F
They prefer frequent, short mid range charge cycles (40-65%) vs topping them off beyond 80%
*hunt down the voltage/% charge for this battery
**can cause Li plating which will permanently degrade the cell
