Hi all, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a tool for backup of the installed programs before update and restore them on the new ROM? I tried with Sprite Backup, but than I had to hard reset because the device hang after Splash screen. Such a tool would save a lot of time. Greetings!
No No No No No No
The reason you should NOT restore after a flash is that any backup program (Sprite, SPB included) must by its nature backup things like registry and datbase files.
If you restore then you will overwrite the information that the very clever cookers have spent all of their time fixing to make the ROM stable.
Equally backing up PIM data (contacts, calendar, tasks etc) using this type of program and then restoring can cause problems. If you can - sync with PC first and resync after the update. Then you are guarenteed compatibiliy.
If you must backup on the PPC then use programs like SMSBackup and ContactsBackup. These export and import the data rather than taking a copy.
I know it is a pain and takes a long while but I strongly recommend reinstalling after an update.
If anybody knows of a tool that can automate the installation of a number of CABs please please let me know.

hi everybody
I installed palm threaded w i didnt like it so I wanted to restore my wm6 old messaging but i have some problems
I have some files missing like messaging.exe and messagingapp.exe and other files so if anybody can help mee ?????
i cant access my inbox
help
To access your old messages (not the threaded ones) you can use some phone app like Jeyo Mobile Companion (I think there's a trial, not sure).
To get your messaging back, reflashing your rom might be the best and cleanest way. Who knows what other changes aside form messaging.exe and messagingapp.exe were changed.
backup - hard reset - cupy files that you need - restore - overwrite files..
or backup, hardreset and restore but with messaging unchecked (spb backup for example)
i cant give you these files because im using palm app
Hi all,
I can´t restore Titanium Backup Backup´s, besides games and stuff that really don´t matter.
I´ve upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S from Froyo to Gingerbread, with a custom portuguese ROM, and i´ve done backups in froyo. Now, in gingerbread, using "only data" when restoring email or contacts, it simply don´t happen anything.
I have "unknown applications" selected, I have ROOT access, so i thought: i want to open files created by titanium backup on the PC, so that i can manually make my restores, of what really cares.
Can you please help me?
Thanks in advance,
Nuno
Does anyone know how to restore the user dictionary when going from Android Keyboard 2.3.5 to Android Keyboard 2.3.6? I'm assuming the version difference is what is causing my problems. I usually do it by using MyBackup Pro, however it doesn't seem to be working this time. Titanium Backup says it's installed as "[USER DICT] User Dictionary 2.3.5", but I'm guessing it's unseeable by 2.3.6? I've also tried using the Market app called User Dictionary Manager, but I need the user_dict.db file from one of my backups I would imagine. But I can't figure out how to extract that from either MyBackup Pro or Titanium Backup. Is there an easy way to do this that I don't know about? Or does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
Hey plwalsh, try checking the default language in your device settings. It's possible that the ROM you just flashed has it set to Canadian English while all of your saved words are in U.S. English. Hope that helps!
Thanks 88! That did the trick. You sound to be quite the smart man Figured it out after saving a new word and checking the SQL database and seeing it marked as "en-CA".
Hi all, I've just made a mistake: I installed SVOX, then using Titanium Backup to remove the default "Pico TTS" before setting up SVOX become text-to-speak output. That's it, and now when I try to access text-to-speak setting, it appears error and force close.
Could I request system files of Pico TTS to re-install ? Or it's back-up file by Titanium to restore, pls ?
Thank you so much !
Is this you want?
