Hi,
This forum helped me to decide on getting an O2 Orbit 2, so thanks for that..
I have searched for this but haven;t found a solution but forgive me if I am repeating a thread.
I am trying to find a way to add a shortcut to the Today screen that directly opens up a new SMS. At the moment I have to go to messaging>SMS>Menu>New>SMS, which seems very convulted, having come from a standard phone.
Is there any way to do this at all?

Try these. I'm not sure about a today plugin. But these cab's create a shortcut for you in \Windows called New SMS.lnk. You could always copy them to your start menu and uninstall the CAB if you dont want to lose a softkey.

Thanks. Tried them both and the left one just changed the name of the soft key but still pointed to the calendar and the right one changed it to got the route of the SMS directory not to a new SMS message. I uninstalled them but the right one still stays the same
Any way of getting it back to the contacts?

Just un-install the CAB.
It might depend on the messaging software.
The shortcut should point to "\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"

I did unistall the CAB and it didn't do anything, just removed itself from the Remove Programs bit. The shortcut is no longer there either, so I cannot check it.
Having looked at your CAB file presumably all I need to change it to calendar is find a registry editor and change the settings your CAB made back to "Calendar" and the correct shortcut?

There is a "Softkey changer" app, or a program by schaps called "Advanced Config" both of those will save on the Reg hacking.

The Solution.....
Install the attachment...
You can place a shortcut to "NEW SMS" on your left or right softkey....
PS: Next time search or follow the link on my sign....
Sorted
Hi Guys,
Thanks to both of you for your quick replies and help. I have created a working New SMS on my today screen using the last app and the o2 shortcuts program that comes with the mobile.
Knew this was the right place to come!
PS: I did search and nothing useful came up...
PPS: I also couldn't have read your link on the sign as it is posted in the area that says to not post unless you are a developer or hardcore tecchie. I am neither and so didn't go there. Thanks for the help though.
Over a year later and the information in this thread has proved invaluable for me. Thanks.
The correct solution to directly compose a new SMS with a shortcut is the following:
tmail.exe -transport "SMS" -to ""
Works great on my Tilt2. However, I do think I used the syntax above posted by DaveShaw with a prior WinMo device and it worked. However, it does not work on my Tilt2.
You can also get a lot more complicated such as:
Creating new MMS with given recipients, subject, body and attachment:
tmail.exe -transport "MMS" -to "8005551212" -cc "8001234567" -bcc "[email protected]" -subject "simple subject" -body "simple MMS body" -attach "/My Documents/test.jpg"
Anyone know how to turn these into executables since my today launcher only accepts exe's?
If You haven't got a reply to that yet... You can make a simple mortscript (like runmms.mscr) with Run (tmail.exe etc...) and then have the mortsript dummy.exe renamed to the same runmms.exe which, when executed, results in the desired action.
Please bear with me, as this is my first windows mobile phone and I'm not all too familiar with it.
First problem is, tapping "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab does not work. After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the Opera browser was not installed on my device! Now, as far as I know, it should come already in all devices. So, I downloaded the Opera 9.5 browser off their website. How can I set it up so when I tap "Launch Browser" on the Internet tab, Opera 9.5 will automatically run? Currently tapping it still does nothing.
Second is, I've been hearing about this "Windows" folder in the HTC Touch Pro. I can't seem to locate this. When I browse for it with my computer, the name of the TP's "hard drive" is "\", and then I see the following folders:
Application Data, ConnMgr, Content, Documents and Settings, Music, My Documents, Program Files, cemail (hidden file), pim
Is this root folder the "Windows" folder?
Third thing is, in the "Programs" tab in TF3D, there's this icon there that when I press (looks like the default icon for a folder in Vista), it gives me an error. It says "The file 'wt5jetpr' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
There we go, that's all. Thank you, if you've read this far.
I can't help with the Opera thing but as for your Windows folder, it's a system file and hidden. You will have to unhide it in your Vista/XP operating system before you can see it using your PC>
You see, I already enabled the viewing of hidden folders. There aren't any other items other than the ones I listed.
EDIT: I tried creating a folder called "Windows" and Vista tells me I can't, because a folder of the same name already exists.
That's weird.. hidden folders are already enabled and I still can't see it.
Hiya, i'm a bit of a noob myselft with regards to wm6.1 so for the opera issue i dont think i could be much help with that same with the file that wont delete so i hope someone else will answer that, to see ur windows folder though when the phone is connected to the pc open up explorer on ur pc and click on tools/folder options then click on view and make sure either the "hide protected operating system files" box is unchecked &/or the "show hidden system files box is checked and this should let you see the windows folder.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: looks like someone already answered in the time it took me to type that, my own fault for multitasking ...

Same thing as you, when I browse to the device from Windows Explorer.
However, if I go to Tools - Folder Options - View tab and I select "Show hidden files and folders", the Windows directory is displayed.

By the name, it looks like it is JetCet Print 5.
Strange you have these errors. Do you use a custom ROM?
PS: been too slow to answer too. but at least the answers match ;-)
I'm not using a custom rom =\. The rom came with my device.
It's:
1.90.405.1.WWE
It's a HTC Touch Pro T7272
Then I advise you to do a Hard Reset. Opera and JetCet print should be there, and should not give you any certificate errors.
I advise you to read a lot these forums, gather as much info as you can, and experimenting with your device. You have a powerhouse in your hands, you know? you have unlimited possibilities. Any questions should you have must be asked.
Alright, I'll give that a try tomorrow after the day's gone so I have lots of time to figure things out.
Sorry for the double post, but I figure this message won't get read if I simply edit my last post.
Anyways, I hard resetted the device and I got Opera and that printing program working! Thanks creiz.
Just one last thing I'm trying to figure out.. is there any way I can get a custom alarm ring tone without downloading a program? (I'm trying to avoid having to do that if possible)
I have an O2 XDA Serra (branded Touch Pro). In TF3d, if I scroll across to the internet tab, I have a pre-set shortcut to MySpace. I will never ever want to visit MySpace, yet it appears I cannot change or remove this shortcut.
Am I missing something, or am I stuck with everyone that sees my phone thinking I'm 13 years old?

Turn off TF3D
Find "27c65cbd_manila" in Windows directory.
Copy to your desktop and keep original for backup.
Open the copy with Notepad and tweak the "OperatorLinks"
Copy and replace into Windows folder.
Restart TF3D and you should see the changes.
Go Bruce, thanks man.
Just got round to doing this, but the file referenced above has Youtube in the operator links section, and not MySpace. There are zillions of _manila files, which one do I need? Or should I start manually searching?
Hi, where are located the entry of the parameters menu ? Because in the connections tab, i have an entry i want to remove...
Hope i was clear...

Not entirely sure what you want to remove or from where? What device and rom you using too?
I believe the OP wants to remove a Settings shortcut. I'm not sure how to do it with 6.1, but if you're using 6.5, then you may be able to delete the registry setting for the .cpl (may take some work figuring out which is which) to get rid of the shortcut. Look for it in hklm-security-shell-startinfo-start-settings. It may not work-you'll just have to experiment.

Im confused, if the OP wants to merely delete a shortcut from a folder in the start menu (wino 6.5) he can use total commander or file explorer and manullay delete or move to a different location?
I might be missing the point here though

It's harder with Settings shortcuts, though. They don't appear in the start menu directory most of the time. Only the Program shortcut show up there. I guess yiou can also delete the registry entry for the setting in HKLM\ControlPanel. That should work if the one in HKLM\Security\Shell... doesn't do the job.
Hi, i knew i was not really clear ! I typed it from my phone... too quick.
So, i'm using wm6.1 with a stock htc rom on my touch HD.
In the settings, connections tab i see and old Wifi router entry... if i click on it nothing happens and i have fulle removed this prog. So i would like to delete this entry.
As i said, i can't find any .cpl for this entry. I looked in the registry but no way to find it.
Hope i 'm more accurate now

I don't know if these keys exist or not in 6.1, but in 6.5 there are a bunch under HKLM\ControlPanel, and a lot of them are just numbered somewhat randomly. I have 3-8, 10-15 and 35. Then there are keys for Advanced Network, Backlight, Buttons, etc. If it's numbered, you may just need to use trial and error (back up before randomly deleting, obviously).
If the app was something you installed and then removed, it may have put an actual shortcut in the \Windows\Start Menu\Settings\Connections folder. Check to see if it exists, then delete it. I can remember having an app that did that once or twice. If you still have the cab file, you can analyze it with sk tools or winCE cab analyzer and see where it sticks the .cpl or what it's named.

Thanx. I see those random digits in the registry, but no way to identify which goes to which Andno it is not a "simple" link

Well, back up the HKLM\ControlPanel values, then start deleting the keys one at a time (you may need to soft reset after each one). When you find the key that gets rid of the shortcut you don't want, then restore all the original keys, and delete the annoying one again. It may not work, though-I'm just guessing that removing the keys will remove the shortcuts.

Somehow I lost the Internet Globe icon from Sense Internet tab. It only displays Launch Browser text now. Any ideas how to get it back? Wouldn't want to Hard Reset for that. Thanks!

Nevermind, made a Hard Reset.
i had the same issue when i have tryed to change it,you need to use cfc_gui to change the manila files or the icon is blank, this is the only way i think.

The thing is that I didn't try to change it. It was just gone after I have deleted something in Application Data\HTC so there's the source somewhere.
I know i'm dragging this post from the dead, but i managed to do the same thing, now I only have the launch browser text.
I was using sk tools and I think it deleted the wrong registry setting.
any ideas?
EDIT: I have fixed the problem
SK tools had deleted a manilla file which I found by searching for 'banner'
i think it was in hklm\software\htc\manila
However, I have found an option for internet banner image in the registry and the string links to a folder i cannot find using resco explorer
any explanation?

I was using SKTools too back when I had that problem and I think it appeared after a Registry Cleaning I applied.
I figured searching for a solution is more time consuming than a Hard Reset and I just did that. Gave up on SKTools but will try again since I've read it now fully supports HD2: http://pocketnow.com/software-1/new-sktools-44715-adds-hd2-and-omnia-ii-support
Any solution?
Do you guys have any solution to this? Same problem after using SKTools. I don't want to hard reset for such a small issue.
[SOLVED] Lost Globe Icon
I solved the problem as follows for anybody that might encounter the same problem. It seems SKTooks made a backup for all registry keys that it deletes, so there is a file called "Software_HTC_Manila_Internet.BannerImage.rgb" in \My Documents\registrybkp. Just run that file again to recover the globe.
