Live radio or tv?? - General Topics

Any way to listen to live radio or tv without a slingbox or equivelant?? I tried The Mobile Stream Center but it isnt live, I think its about 4-5 hours behind... How can I do this without spending moneyor is it possible?

2 ways to get media into the device
1 internet
2 getting a SDIO card which works as a fm/analog tv or dab/dvb tuner

I have internet(with unlimited data plan) just dont know what to try other than the website mentioned before.... Thanks

Go to wwiitv.com
-Find channels you like
-Click on the download button and instead of opening streams, save them
-Put these on your device (they are really small files, put as many as you want)
-Open them
I keep the TVA stream file on my PDA so I can watch this channel live whenever I want, pretty sweet.

I got a list of sponsered channels with that address? See here http://wwiitv.com/

No good for me

No luck with this, even trying .net gives similar results. just sponsored links. Is there an extention to the address that gives direct access?

For radio, go to http://www.radio-locator.com/ on PIE. It's a database of almost every traditional radio station in America. Most of 'em are openable in Media Player. After they're running, you can close PIE to save memory/battery.

correction
its wwitv.com

I cant believe no one has mentioned orb? go to www.orb.com and see for yourself, works great on everything Internet enabled (except when using flash on the wii) for the live tv functionality you will need a tv tuner for your home pc, but besides that, you can always stream all your videos, music, youtube, radio stations and pictures.
Oh, and if your only interested in radio stations go to: www.tuned.mobi

I'll check those out. Thanks

You can also attatch a Slingbox to your receiver at home and watch those channels via the internet.

Be sure to put the SlingBox and the Slingcatcher on your xmas list, you will never regret it. With the Slingcatcher, no need for TV Out on your PDAphone, just let the SlingCatcher send those video files from your PC to your TV........!

www.shoutcast.com
a TON of sites, good search features, good stream options.
www.winamp.com
about the same as shoutcast, but they have winamp remote. i have been unsuccessful installing it on my computer, but apparently you can install it on ur home computer then run it and it turns your computer into a streaming feed that i believe you can control remotely. really sweet idea, just havent gotton it to happen on my POS computer.

Is there any way to watch You tube video?

I was trying to open with Opera, IE, WMP. Don't really know which application I need to watch it...I believe there is a simple answer for the question. But, I just don't know it...
So, no1 knows?

Have you read this?
it seems that all the solutions there are for downloading, converting and then watching. But I need it to work on-fly, without downloading, the way we watch it on our PCs.
Now Windows Mobile Phones Can, so why can't we?
I know I'm getting sick of seeing those stupid Verizon adds for the EnV that shows the huge YouTube logo on the screen, and wondering why my WM phone can't. I know my phone can do hundreds, if not thousands of things, that the EnV can't, but as long as there is ONE thing that a non WM phone can do that mine can't, I feel like less of a man. Where do I sign up mfrazz's 12 step program?
and is there any way to watch p2p tv on ppc like on pc?
I just intalled the newest version on Opera 8.65... its in beta right now... BUT IT PLAYS YOUTUBE videos!!!! WooHoo!!!
It has flash support built in and works nice!!!http://ppcwarez.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19732
try..
Go this site with your device browser. You can even download the videos. And you can search grouper, youtube etc.

does anyone know how to format the window so that I can watch the whole video (on youtube) using Opera?
Orb Lets You Play YouTube on Your PPC
I use a program called Orb to play YouTube on my PPC. It loads on your home PC, then you use any PPC browser to access it. It's pretty dang sweet. I have had hardly any problems with it.
orb.com
Well, there are a lot of ways to watch you tube video offline on your PPC. For example, you can just download a youtube video using youtube grabber on your PC then convert it to avi using some endcoder, and then watch it with TCMP or Core PLayer.
However, the main point of the thread is to get a way of watching youtube video on-fly being online with you PPC.
So, far the best way of doing that is using new Opera. However, it's not a perfect way
orb is the way to go. orb does it on the fly also. check it out.

It really is. The only problem I found about it is that the PC must always run the application and be online to be able to watch video from PPC, which is sometimes a problem for me. The rest is awsome.
the other nice thing is you can also view your webcam anytime also. I use it for sucurity purposes . very nice feature.

I think downloads are the only way to watch you tube videos. Try this site: mymobileclips.com, free registration, specify the format you want your videos, and you can get Google, Myspace, Ifilm, Dailymotion, Break, Metacafe, too.
I personally believe ORB is by fair the best thing to cross streaming\PPC lines...I have absolutely no problem watching youtube on my PPC using orb, and talk about an iPhone?? Who needs that when you have an 250 gig hdd with movies, music, pictures, and then are able to watch your local cable service thats at home while your out and about on a lunch break, and then to be able to access your PC and browse and download files from anywhere............ORB IS GOD when it comes to media and mobile devices....not to mention to gain access on my xbox 360 using orb as well without switching my external from device to device, and not using the lame media center....orbs great....just thought id mention it.

I've been trying orb and im a bit new to it. But from my understanding, orb will only work if you pre-selected the videos on your PC first right?
Is there any way to watch ANY youtube video? For example if you searched for one and want to watch it, you cant use the standard browser to see it. How does orb come into play for watching videos on demand? Will it only allow us to see videos that we have pre-added on our pc with the orb plugin?

Orb defines videos, pics, audio, files, etc defined in a specifc folder....when you setup orb it then scans the folders to save the content locations onto the orb server, so what ever you put in a specified folder, orb will pull it in for you.
With youtube, just download the plugin on orbs website for IE, install.....then login into orb on your ppc.....go to videos....then it comes up with an search for youtube....google...yahoo...etc, type in what you want to search, it then show it infront of you, click what you want to watch, then click play stream.
No pre-added video for youtube, just an search as if you were at your desktop.

Streaming media over home network to Touch Pro?

I have Vista working well over my home network serving up media to various devices including a ps3. My Touch Pro refused to see the contents of shared folders. This is what I have done so far.
1. Started "Network Plugin for File Explorer" ver 1.0 build 29714
2. Enabled Network folder
3. Successfully mapped folders on Network neighborhood after using the browse feature in the "map network connections" tab within the Network Plugin app.
4. The folders show up in File Explorer, Total Commander and Resco Explorer. Oh and Core player.
5. BUT no content listed....
Is anyone successfully playing steamed media content on their home network via WIFI? If so please outline how for us noobs.

I second that, as soon as I read what you were trying to do I was thinking to myslef why doesn't he just use Orb,
PS download the free Kinoma player too, aswell as giving you access to a million internet radio stations, and you tube it also has an orb client, allowing for really easy acess to your media, both at home and on the Go (provided you have unlimited internet)
PPS @ mkalbouneh, Sack using a webcam I plugged a USB Video capture device in instead and now stream my cable box to my phone whilst im on the GO, it shows up as a webcam, but I have access to my full package of TV chans
thanks for the tips. I tried Orb with Kinoma. The good news is it works although i do find it a little slow even over my wireless lan.
Make sure you set the power mode of your wireless lan settings to "Best performance" instead of "Best Battery". It makes a huge difference
dont forget to chekout out the internet radio stations in the shoutcast section of kinoma, just search for a genre of music, and hundreds of stations pop up, it is excellent !

Basically you need to use a player that can accept freeform network addresses, such as \\Your_Computer\Share_folder ... set your shares on your desktop, then type in the path and it should bring up your shares. I use TCPMP, but unfortunately find the Touch Pro's wifi throughput a bit limited. I'm not exactly sure why, it should torch my old 802.11b device (Dell Axim X50v), but it cannot stream media as smoothly from the exact same source on my network. Has to buffer every so often whereas my old device can play the same clips in full without pauses. I did a mobile bandwidth test (http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed) and my TP does indeed get 2x the speed of the Axim, yet the playback on the TP is slower. Anyone else notice similar?
Oh and before anyone asks, I use this rather than Orb when within range of my wifi network because it allows play of higher quality files and it is much more efficient to browse media libraries when networked directly rather than bouncing through a Web browser.
Although the Kinoma player does alleviate a lot of that browsing lag by directly connecting. If it were a more robust player, I would consider switching over to it for media streaming even within range of my home wireless.

lol i do the same with the dazzel 80
I have used Orb before and have forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder, I hate forgetting some of these awesome tools.
I used to use GSPlayer for streaming medias, the icon was a Tree when it was on my wm5 dekstop.
That used to be able to even handle authentication needed streaming sites, if I recall properly.
I do notice the Fuze as being pretty dreadful on Wifi. I won't go into conspiracy theories...force usage of the 3g...I said I won't...

iPhone gets iheartradio for Clear Channel radio. What can WM users do?

Long time WM user that can appreciate the iPhone and iPod Touch ability to listen to ClearChannel radio stations "online". But I don't understand why Windows Mobile is being left out.
If we can watch YouTube videos, certainly we have the horsepower for radio. Does anyone else have this problem? Better yet, have a solution that works? Would love to get my local Sports Radio station on my Touch Cruise, but not even Skyfire works for me.
Well, still no luck. I found a website that tracks radio stations around the US and even internationally, but there is no link to Sports Radio 950 KJR (www.kjram.com) and I can't find a link anywhere else but their own home page, which won't work with Opera or Skyfire.
Currently running one of c_s rom's, which doesn't come with IE. Thought maybe adding IE 6.1 would help, but haven't found a link yet. Anyone know how I can add that to an existing rom?
Off to do more searching, but pretty soon I suppose I should just break down and buy an iPod Touch.
from your Touch Cruise:
www.theStreamCenter.com/pda/
Works in pIE, Opera 8.65 and Opera Mini. Not sure if it needs pIE to actually open the radio station's link though, since it's built into the ROM on my Polaris.
I searched for your station 950 kjr and found it if it's located in Seattle (did not find it when I searched kjr 950 - go figure). However, never got it to connect. Immediately tried a ClearChannel station I listen to and it connected perfectly. Don't know if 950 kjr link is bad or if the station was not broadcasting. Perhaps, it was a blackout due to a game or something like that? Give it a try and see if you have better luck.
ps...
Tried to stream the station on my laptop via the kjram.com website (NOT through streamcenter.com) and it did not work either. Looks like maybe they are having problems at the moment and hopefully it'll work when you try.
Good luck!
Still looking for pIE I can add to my current WM6 rom. The author didn't include pIE as part of the "image". I also tried your link, and in Opera I couldn't find any part of the KJR AM page I could "click" on. So I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong if not just using the wrong browser.
Not having ANY luck and not sure what else to try.
Wunder radio was supposed to come out on January 15th. It supposedly has 50,000 radio stations. I'm hoping clear channel will be part of that.
I can stream clear channel stations through IE on my PC but PIE says it can't do it. Opera Mobile gets close but won't actually play the music.
I can stream some stations that aren't clear channel using Opera, and I can stream NPR after downloading the .asx link and selecting it with TCPMP.
Can't help with how to get pIE on your phone since you are using a ROM without it. All I can tell you is I stream Clear Channel stations (all others too) by going to:
www.thestreamcenter.com/pda
Then searching for the station. Once you find your station you can save it as a favorite and access it much easier.
On the front page of www.thestreamcenter.com/pda it says...
"Clear Channel Stream Announcement:
PDA users can now exclusively access Clear Channel live streams directly from the Mobile Stream Center! (Thanks Bret!). The streams and this announcement are not displayed on desktop PCs."
Clear Channel stations stream via Windows Media Player by default.
No jumping through hoops. Nothing needed that doesn't come built into Windows Mobile by default.
FYI, I am sitting here streaming/listening to your KJR 950 on my phone as I'm typing. Costas is interviewing Matt Cheney regarding drug testing in the NFL...
Good luck!
Okay, so I'm a dork. Had pIE installed and didn't know it, as it was only under the menu and nowhere else.
Started that up, found it's in mobile mode instead of "look like a PC mode" like I think Opera does, and finally saw the links like you mention! Thought I was home free until...
Had some funny language prompting me. Hit one side, and ended up with a save screen. The file saved made a .php file I think, and I can't figure out how to get Window Mobile's Media Player to open it. The other options all didn't seem to do much of anything, and Pocket Streamer on my phone didn't do a .php either!
I'll play some more, as I *think* I'm close... but I'm not there yet.
Got it!
Turned off automatic language detection in pIE, then when I went back to the link, it prompted me to save a .wma file that DOES stream in Windows Media Player. And I've saved the link as a Playlist as well!
Thanks for all the help!!!!
Glad you got something to work!
Just to clarify, the browser needs to be in mobile mode, otherwise the Clear Channel "WMP PDA only" links will not show up. I noticed when I click on a link for a station that streams via mp3, it saves a .pls file to the "My Device\My Documents" folder - but, it happens automatically. I am not prompted and don't have to approve the save. It just saves itself, then starts playing using the TCPMP player. I have not noticed any file - of any type - like that when I play a Clear Channel station. However, it's totally possible it may just save a file of some type somewhere that I have not come across. After clicking the Clear Channel "PDA Only" link, Windows Media Player opens automatically, the stream buffers and then plays. I have not come across any .wma streams to see how that kind works on my phone.
Clearchannel Streaming Utility for Windows Mobile Devices.. Works in IE.. Doesn't seem to work in Opera, though it may be the link I'm providing.. I may possibly work on this and see if I can get it to work in Opera.
http://www.verrigan.net/cchannel.php
[edit]
This utility scans the website for the clearchannel stream.. It then gives you the then-current stream URL for that radio station. It should open the stream in Windows Media Player. (in IE.. Not with Opera)
BTW, the utility is not strictly for use on Windows Mobile, but not many other phones use mms URLs for streaming as far as I could tell. It does, however, stream on regular PCs running Windows or Linux (with a MMS stream media player).
if you want most uk radio stations use coreplayer or the htc stream app , head over to www.musicradio.com and choose your favorite radio , note down the url and you get perfect streaming eg for GWR Bristol its http://media-ice.musicradio.com/GWRBristolMP3 LBC is the same address but ends with LBC973MP3Low , if you have an ipod touch or an iphone you can download an app called radio which is poor in visuals but shows the url to the stations which you can type into your streaming app , or in pie head over to pdatuner.com this has all the stations as well but in lower 64 quality
Clear Channel is now blocking themediastream.com from streaming their radio stations?
yup, stay tuned to see if they work it out
just came across this old post, appears to be worked out
Did we ever get this figured out? Most of the Local Stations I listen to are Clear Channel Stations....Do they just not care that there are probably many more WM users out here then Iphone users? Or did they make some sort of exclusive deal with Iphone? I was using the http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda method for a while and then nothing...it seems like they intentionally don't want WM users to have access to there online stream!
I just fired this email off to the Communications / Media Relations contact at ClearChannel
"To Whom it may concern,
I am just wondering why, it seems, that Clear Channel seems to have abandoned Millions of Windows Mobile users and Welcomed the "Trendy" but yet less used IPhone/Blackberry users? You have embraced and are Pushing the use of "IHeart Radio" on all your radio stations, Yet this program only works on IPhone's and I think Blackberry Phones, So us Window Mobile users are left "Swinging in the Breeze"!
Then when we find a way around your "Lack of Support" by using a website like http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda and You slap us in the face again and shut down your stream to such websites....What Gives?
I am a loyal listener of at least two of your stations in the Cleveland Area, One FM and one AM station, and when I am not near a radio it would be really nice to be able to hear your show on my PDA, but I am forced to listen to other stations sub-standard programming because you at ClearChannel seem to have an "Issue" with Windows Mobile for some reason! I just read an online news report that stated that IPhone users have up'd your listener base by 15%....I think you will up it much more then that if you included support for Windows Mobile Users!
I apologise for the Rant if I have just missed something and am totally off base about your support for WM, If so please advise me of a program that you know of that does allow us access to your online programming.
If I have to keep going out and finding other Radio Stations that support WM online, then I might find programming that I like and abandon ClearChannel all together, after all why have loyalty to a company that has no loyalty to a large group of it's listeners!"
Well see if I get a response!

- AudioGalaxy (free and easy)
- Subsonic (mostly free - server is becoming donation)
- CIFS Manager and whatever player you want because it'll mount as a virtual share on your SD card like ES does except it'll be accessable from any program as though it was right on your phone (only will work over wifi in most cases and you have to be using a device which has a cifs.ko module compiled specficially for it).
To start out -- id try audiogalaxy -- but its going to take a really long time to index a huge library -- FYI -- leave it overnight or something.
Edit -- without wifi whats the point? In that case Audiogalaxy works okay over mobile data out of the box -- subsonic will probably need port 80 forwarded from your router when you want to use it. They're going to consume a lot of mobile data though.
Lately I've been using CIFS Manager when on WIFI at home and Audiogalaxy for elsewhere. Cheers.

100GB of music? DAMN! lol
100Gig - I remember when my library was that small ;-)
I just wrote a review on Audiogalaxy and it's one of my review applications which is staying on my phone, so I'll also suggest trying it out. While the bitrate seems a little too low at the moment, it is just a beta and is still good enough quality for casual listening - That said, a lower bitrate is going to help keep costs down, should you wish to stream over mobile networks.
I'll agree, a large mp3 collection will take a while to fully index but a decent broadband connection will help that. It's also really easy to get started on audiogalaxy (took me under five minutes from first visit to the website, to playing my first track on the phone.)
thanks for help. i just saw today that Audiogalaxy is released, i think that'll do . Btw, i used to have about 550gb of music but sadly i had to erease my whole disk because of failure ;//

Bloody hell! You win! I lost around 350gig for the same reason and now have only around 290gig in raid (thankfully raid, I lost one of the disk set last year but no data for once!)
I have been hearing of some cloud like applications out there for push/pull of files to/from pc to android, so that may make another alternative, especially for offline usage. I'm thinking of implementing both because it makes far more sense to be able to access certain data remotely, rather than trying to figure out what I'll want syncing before I leave home.
Oh and if there isn't anything that quite fits the bill, perhaps it would make an excellent dev project for me.
Subsonic serves me and my terabyte of music very well (roughly half the teratyte is FLAC). The reason AudioGalaxy is not something for me is because I like to do everything folder-based, not via some database/index.
I am currently trying CifsManager too. But it appears my WiFi is pretty slow, so for streaming Subsonic's buffering/caching is much appreciated. Another advantage of Subsonic is that you can tell it exactly what and how you want stuff re-encoded. You can have it set up so that if you are on WiFi, it will automatically stream your MP3/FLAC at their own max quality. Then when you go off WiFi with your phone and want to listen over mobile data networks, it could stream it to you as 128kbps MP3 file for example (on-the-fly transcoded from for example your high-quality FLAC).
@jjwa - That's an excellent answer! Thanks for that, I think I need to take another look at Subsonic.

[Q] How to auto download podcast in background with Mango?

Hy everybody!
I just updated on Mango and I'am looking for an app that can download podcast automatically in background (using my Wifi at home) and then play it when I don't have connection. (I don't have data plan)
I have tried Podcast! and SpladDash but I did not find this function.
Someone know an app (free) that can do this!!
Thanks
Zune within the phone does that. Subscribe to the podcast on your computer, and then you can either set the phone to download and keep all the podcasts or you can manually choose which ones. If you want more, open up Zune on your phone, click podcasts, scroll to your podcast, scroll down, click marketplace, choose podcast, download, be happy, live life.
However, if you don't want to subscribe to the podcast then the above steps won't work.
I did no find how to do it without using PC sync!!
I want to download the podcast only using the Wifi on my phono ... I have see that on some WP7 you have this option but i don't find it!!!!
I would like to know how this can be done. I don't want to waste my time clicking and selecting once I'm subscribed. I want them to be downloaded without my interaction.

Actually, you can subscribe and/or download individual podcasts directly from the phone - meaning you don't need to subscribe on from your computer ... to download a single episode without subscribing simply locate the episode you want and press and hold until the 'download' option pops up.
Keep in mind that you can only stream popdcasts using your phone's data connection, if you are downloading to your phone it will require you to be on WiFi.

Actually, you can subscribe and/or download individual podcasts directly from the phone - meaning you don't need to subscribe on from your computer ... to download a single episode without subscribing simply locate the episode you want and press and hold until the 'download' option pops up.

I don't believe this to be the case. It may be HD7 specific, but it would download podcasts that were small enough over the data network, not just WiFi. Also, I can second the fact that you can subscribe directly from phone. Oddly enough you want to go to the marketplace->Podcasts to get to it. I am not sure if there is any way to get to it from the Music&Video hub.
Yes, this functionality is built into the phone in the 'Music & Videos' hub. I don't think podcasts are available through the Zune marketplace in my location. However, this is how I did it:
1) Subscribe to the podcasts on Zune on your PC. (Can get the RSS feed for the podcast from iTunes or searching on the web).
2) Sync the podcasts to your phone.
3) Open the podcasts in the 'music and videos' hub on your phone. Select each podcast and click the subscribe button on your phone.
4) Can now unsubscribe from the podcasts on your PC.
If the Zune marketplace contains podcasts in your location, it's obviously easier. Seems to work fine so far. Podcasts download when the phone is plugged in and connected via wifi. I have a DVP.
