With the Windows version of Remote Desktop you can use the CLI switch '/console' to take control of the current console session of the server you are Remote Desktop'ing into as long as its 2003 Server or later. Is this possible with the Remote Desktop Mobile client?
With the Windows version you just start it with 'Start, Run, mstsc.exe /console' and this attempts to connect to the current console session.

note that if you don't strictly need RDP, some other, proprietary clients do offer console-like features - also see the above article for more info
This is an old topic, but one of the first Google search results for 'Remote Desktop Mobile connect to console'. I've been fiddling with this for the past few days and wanted to share my experience. I say experience because I haven't reallydone anything to achieve a /console connection with RDP mobile.
I'm running WinMo 6.5 Pro and using the standard RDP client it ships with. I am connecting to my home PC, which is running Win7x64 Ultimate. If I choose to log in as a currently logged in user and provide the proper credentials, I am connected to the existing session without any hassle.
I don't know if this is a new feature of terminal services/remote desktop on Win7, or a designed advantage of the mobile RDP client.
If you need to connect to a server console session specifically, take a look at this link on how to configure your server in advance to facilitate this:

Ok...I run linux and I would like to be able to remote control my pocketpc similar to how the my mobiler software allows people running windows using activesync. Usually this would not be a problem because vnc is free and runs on everything. I've found 15 different free vnc CLIENTS for the pocketpc but the only servers I've found is a pay one and one that is so old I think it's for ce 2002.
What am I missing?

You listed the two I mentioned..good job. Pocketvncserv would not connect with my vncviewer..hence my post.

Ever try a nifty little application called "Mobiler"? It displays your wizard's screen on your PC. Full control, etc. Basically does what a VNC server would, and more.
I use a program called SOTI Pocket Controller, but it only works in windows, I need a way to control my Pocket PCs from Linux...
I've tried the pocketvncsvr package, and the server seems to work - but I too cannot connect to the server from my client.
I've tried using ultra, tight and real-vnc specified raw encoding and any number of colour combinations without luck.
The mobiler package worked well enough - but windows only, and my TP2 seems to kill wifi when I use activesync; so its no good for my purpose.
Can anyone share their connection setting and client version that is known to work?

My Mobiler works in Linux under wine over wifi with "Connect IP"
Dunno about a way over USB.
PocketVNC: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pocketvnc/. Both server and client included. Haven't tried it though so I don't know if it works.
I might have tried that one. I have tried a few that didn't work. I can't remember if that's one of them...
I was wondering if there was any software for either, home automation or remote desktop connection. I've searched for home automation and can't seem to find a definitive answer. As far as remote pc goes... I want to be able to see and access all the files on my laptop, from my phone.

absolutly, I am using guildFTPd(freeware) to host. However I can't use TotalCommander to see the dir/file structure, I have to use FTPview. There are other free ftp servers as well (FTPShell Server). Just make sure you use strong security, I do get occasional people/bots trying to getting in the server.
There are also applications like RemoteAdmin, PCAnywhere, VNC viewer to take control of your remote machine ... but if all you want is to access files the FTP approach is better performance wise.
is there some sort of LogMeIn hamachi client for WinMo? I know for PC's it puts two computers on the "same network". that might work, if there is...
You could also try running Orb (free) on your laptop if you want to be able to access files remotely. Allows for all media files specifically but also has a built in file browser.
Also allows for streaming video etc (can be great if you've got a TV capture card on your laptop at home and you want to watch TV from a remote location)

You can both remotely control a PC and access file shares with features built into Windows Mobile.
To control a PC
I have successfully used Remote Desktop Mobile on my Fuze (standard ROM) to control my home PC. My home PC is Windows XP Professional (XP Home does not include the RD server). It works great considering the screen size. This solution is much simpler than installing 3rd-party software on both the phone and the PC.
To access files on a PC
I have used File Explorer Menu | Go To | Open Path | New Path to access file shares. I haven't done this a lot but it seems to work fine. Configuring a share is much simpler than installing and configuing an FTP server. BTW, Windows XP Professional includes an FTP server.
To use either of these features you must have an appropriate network path from your phone to the PC. The easiest way is to use your home wireless network. Then you only need to worry about the software firewall on your PC.
If you use the provider's network, you must properly configure all firewalls to allow appropriate ports, and configure your router to port-forward appropriate ports to the PC. You must also either (1) have a static IP for your home network interface, (2) track your dynamic IP address as it changes, or (3) use a service that maps a host name to your dynamic IP and automatically tracks changes. It might be easier just to store files on a web site, then you don't need to even keep the PC turned on.
I'm looking for a remote desktop program that will allow remote login to a wm6 phone ie running a remote desktop server on the phone (not client). Basically I have 2 - wm 6 phones and I'd like to be be able to control one of them remotely either via my main phone or pc over the internet. I'll keep searching, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be appreciated. I have read multiple articales about a Real VNC solution but their website yields nothing.

Yes what client do you use with that? Also how has it been working for you? Reliable, fast etc? Looks like very limited support and documentation for that project. I actually didn't realize the CE software can run on WM.
Ok so I figured it out (I feel kinda dumb asking what client to use). So I downloaded the real vnc viewer and got it working. The only thing I'd really like to do now is get some sort of dyndns type service going on the phone as restarting it changes the ip everytime.

It will be hard to find one of these because Microsoft doesn't allow full networking access. Unless someone writes a remote desktop app that runs over web services (weird but probably possible), or Microsoft opens low-level APIs, then there won't be one. In either case it might take time.

It's in the Marketplace... $4.99, but has a free trial.
I installed the free trial but it seems RDP is not one of its features.
Just found this - choung . net / charlie (cant post urls yet)[/url] - which kinda offers remote apps over http, works well and will do for the mean time.
Hopefully see some official RDP support soon...

Someone who has a windows phone (not me) should look into Windows Live Mesh. On the desktop, it allows remote connections to a computer that has it installed. On the website for Live Mesh, there's a picture of a little phone. Of course, it might be referring to just syncing files, but perhaps doing a remote desktop via Live Mesh on the phone is going to be possible?
I certainly hope that someone develops this; however I spoke with one of the develpers on the team at Microsoft and he confirmed that Microsoft has no plans to ship a RDP client.
Without socket support it's going to be a pain. You would have to pass everything through a http proxy. The Remote Desktop app on the market place does something like that with VNC. Hopefully the next WP7 update will bring official socket support.

No, it is currently not possible to create an App for Remote Desktop Connections in Windows Phone 7 as one would need the ability to access the Socket-APIs.
This might become available in future versions of the development tools.
What is a possible is to have a server somewhere that translates from the HTTP-Requests of the Phone to the RDP protocol acting as an intermediary. As far as I know there currently is no App that does this.
A homebrew software using a jailbroken phone should be possible as they have access to socket-communication.

Thats a VNC client, not a remote desktop (RDP) client.
Can't you just use a web based remote desktop client using explorer on the phone? Like free version of logmein.com or paid app gotomypc.com
I haven't tried it yet but I am sure it works might be a pain to maneuver around but I am sure there is a version somewhere that fits a smart phone screen size...
At least it's something to use until the second update in February rumored to release socket support maybe don't quote me on it.

I asked on Microsoft's social site for Live Mesh and they said they (paraphrasing a quote) "Would consider looking into possibly maybe supporting Windows Phone 7 in the future". Translation "Dude, youre a genius! Lemme check."
Doesn't sound like it's on the horizon.

Logmein free and logmeinrescue do not work as they require activeX controls or something (sorry I'm not a dev so that may not be the correct term...Im a XDA troll.) I have tried...
Can't wait for Sync/Mesh but I seem to have jettisoned RDP for logemin services and that would be awesome to have working on the phone.
I'm using TeamViewer QuickSupport on my two Samsung devices, but it seems to need a device-specific add-in to work on other devices.
The device in question is a CubieTruck as in http://tinyurl.com/mjzejs4.
Actually the TeamViewer product almost works. Connects to the device, gives stats about the device, allows file transfers... but when it comes time to connect to the desktop it mis-interprets the device's "OK" to "Refused".
Does anybody know of another product that allows a Windows session to connect to an Android desktop?
Seems like there are plenty of products that go the other way... but Windows ==> Android?
