As the tittle says
How do i go about deleting Duplicated Icons from Programs Group?
without uninstalling the program itself?
WM6.1 doesn't provide you any option to delete icons
Thanks
Go to windows>start menu>programs and delete what you want from there.
that's exactly what i'm doing, it has no option to delete
i tried holding down the click, and no context menu come up
even if i just highlight the icon, there is no menu option to delete
If you tap and hold, a menu has to drop and delete is on it. Is this for the Advantage (assuming so from your signature).
first, try to uninstall these duplicate programs from the settings menu, if you can't, and you are sure you want to delete them, open file explorer, and navigate to windows-start menu-programs and delete the duplicates.
as i mentioned on my first post, the only way to fix it that i found is to uninstall and delete everything.
but i don't want to go that route, is hella annoying having to do all that work, just to delete some duplicated icons.
i did also try holding the menu down, and i did say the context menu does not provide you an option to delete whatever you have highlighted in the program view.

Don't use the built-in file explorer, but " Total commander or resco explorer..."
to delete what you don't need....
\windows\start menu\programs
using a file explore and delete away

Why do you say that is the only way? it is NOT! I modify the programs menu all time... did you read my post above?! if you did, try it, if you try and have a problem, report back with the problem, as specific as possible. aaand, any explorer would work.

Does anyone know how to remove an application icon from the Settings\Menus list? The application uninstalled without any errors but the choice to checkmark under Menus is still there. When trying to access the program under the Programs section the icon is there but gives an error when trying to access it, of course because it is not installed.
I tried to reinstall/uninstall the program but it did no good the icon remains and does not get removed. Under Settings\Remove Programs it is NOT listed.
Anyone know a way to get it out? Thank you very much.
use file explorer and delete?
look under windows/start menu
if its there, it in the start menu, look deeper into the programs folder,
if its there its in the settings list. delete it from there to solve your problem.

Look for "Device-Lock".
You can put the links in a separate "Admin" folder and encrypt it.
You can set the properties to 'Hidden' with Total Commander (and probably Resco Explorer; I don't have it). Just highlight the link, check File--->Properties and tick the Hidden box.

edit 2: there is no "Clear Storage.ink". there is just "ClearStorage.exe", but it can't be delete or move
I need to hide "Lock" shortcut; I need to Delete "ClearStorage.exe" and "Clear Storage" shortcut.
anyone can tell me how to do it, Please?? Thanks.
Still wating for the answer...
anybody can help me??
I'm still waiting for your answer... my question is:
How to Hide the "lock" and "Clear Storage" Shortcut??
Plus my new Question is how to hide the "Remove Programs" Shortcut?? (or Hide/Delete Program List in the Remove Program window)
Thanks for helping me.
Ok, this may be harder than I first thought. You basically want to disable the shortcut, right? Here is what I would try: Get a shortcut to solitaire or wmp or whatever and rename it to Lock.lnk or Clear Storage.lnk. Then copy it into Window\Start Menu\Settings (for Lock.lnk) or Window\Start Menu\Settings\System (for Clear Storage.lnk or Remove Programs.lnk); you'll need to create the \System folder, btw. Since you're on a 6.5 rom, the icon should remain the same, but the shortcut will now be redirected to the program of your choice. Since the .exe's and .cpl's are in rom, there's no way to delete them, and shortcuts for the Settings control panel work differently than Programs shortcuts. But I'm about 80% sure that this will solve you problem.
Your other option is to over-write clearstorage.exe with a dummy file: just create a blank text file and rename it (changing the extension to .exe) and drop it in \windows with total commander. That will work, although you'll get the 'this is not a trusted certificate' error instead of having a shortcut that does something semi-useful.
Why so paranoid, lol?

Thanks for reply,
first way, thats didn't working
...
to replace ClearStorage.exe with the dummy one, this way is working good, thanks.
one of my problem is solved.
left 2 problems, and i still need your help guys..
note: for "Lock" and "Remove Programs" i just want to hide the shortcut; or delete program list in the Remove Program window, not to delete the main exe programs
...
i lost my Atom before, and nothing i can do about that.
now i'm using Srite Terminator program, it's like security program if you lost your PPC. so i have to hide that shortcuts, to get the program work more safer..
i leave the Lock password/pin empty, so terminator can remotely to lock/unlock my handset. if you activated the Lock passwrod/pin, terminator can remotely to lock your handset, but can't unlock it back. so i need to hide the shortcut to avoid from someome to fill this password/pin lock.
i hide clear storage shorcut/or replace clearstorage.exe, so "the thief" can't do a hard reset, except they know to do hard reset with hard button.
i hide Remove Programs, so nobody can uninstall my programs, specially the terminator.
thanks... and waiting more answer
Need Your Solution, Please..
Hi All... I'm still waiting for your help.
Thanks.
Have you thought about disabling your hardware keys as well, because if someone steals your phone and has enough knowledge to look for clear storage, they certainly have enough knowledge to press Reset\Vol Dwn\OK...
So... you need to cook W.I.M.P or Sprite Terminator with settings preset into your ROM.

it is possible to disabling hardware keys? specially hard reset keys?
i agree with you, that the better is including W.I.M.P or SprieTerminator into ROM, including the settings of course.
to bad, i'm not a cooker, maybe you can teach me how to cook, to including application with settings. so i can build my private ROM. i can learning on it. maybe you can send me a "Cook.pdf"
a big thanks to you.
Hello. to everybody.
I am trying to fix the reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu with the tweaks advised in some threads but they don't work.
Even if I change the HKCU Dword string to 0 (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEnable), they again reappear but without the icon (only a sad and ugly grey icon)....
Does anybody know something more to fix this annoying issue?
Thx in advance.

After doing that, you need to actually delete the shortcuts yourself.
Open file explorer and navigate to Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Locate the shortcuts (you'll recognise them from the default icon that you've already seen) and delete them.
The registry change you described simply stops the shortcuts from being recreated when you restart the device.
Try this cab , i used it , it works .
6/12 -09 Touch X Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons.cab -Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu (see tweak 42 in tboy2000 thread here)
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/LEO TWEAKS/Touch X Permanently Delete Reappearing HTC Icons.cab
Or if none of the above don't work for some reason the you need to make the shortcuts hidden in file properties using a good file explorer, after doing the reg tweaks also.

Thanks for this info. I've been searching for a number of days trying to figure out how to remove these default icons. I've no idea where they sprung up from. Anyway, they've now gone!
what if i want the sortcuts back with the default icons on start?
I have 4 duplicate shortcut icons in my start menu. They are htc music, footprints, people and calendar. They appeared after i installed then removed a cab file to extend number of icons in home screen from 9 to 16,
Can someone help me to remove them, many thanks. Also does anyone know where footprint images are stored, and is there a way to plot images taken with camera using GPS other than footprint
windows/start menu/programs
Create new folders, move icons around...hide some, and, yes, delete as well...
I have the same problem of having duplicate shortcuts. There are the originals which have the usual icons, and the duplicates do not have custom icons, just a blank icon.
The problem with just deleting it in windows/start menu/programs is that I do not know which is the one with the icon, and which is the duplicate.
I started by deleting HTC Twitter as I do not use Twitter and deleted the one with the icon, and do not want to repeat with the other shortcuts. After a reboot the HTC Twitter icons have returned.
Any suggestions?
If they are returning then just use your file explorer "i use Total Commander" to change the properties to hidden
stylez,
Thank you for the suggestion.
When I look at File Explorer on the mobile I can see two copies of the duplicated icons, when I look on File Explorer on my PC only one copy is visible.
I changed the attribute of HTC Twitter to 'hidden' and it is still visible on the phone.
Try using Total Commander on phone
Thank you for your reply.
Changing the attribute to 'hidden' on the phone makes no difference either!
What I have found to work is:
Hide Reappearing HTC Icons from Start Menu
If you delete the HTC shortcuts to Peep, People, Messaging etc and reset, they always come back. To hide these shortcuts for good (not the apps just the shortcuts) use the tweak below.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEnable
Change to 0 and soft reset. You may need to change their shortcut's properties to hidden by accessing them in Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder.
Posted elsewhere on this forum, I am unable to link to it.
Then delete the shortcut and it does not return.
thank u so much for all ur tips...the last solution works
i looked everywhere but thank u for finally finding me a solution!!!
Hi everybody.
Just deleted my HTC Calendar icon from Windows/start menu/programs. But deleted the original instead of duplicate. Is there a way to recover it somehow ? Or replace it with a downloaded one ? The duplicate is working now but too ugly.
Thank you.

I connected my HTC HD2 to Win Mobile Device Center, and thru the activesync connection, i go to File Explorer on the PC to try to change the attribute to Hidden for those 4 duplicated shortcut files on HD2...but in my File Explorer i can't get Windows/Start menu/Programs folders to appear...I initially thought the whole folders were "hidden" so i have already set File Explorer in my Win7 PC to show all hidden files...but still not showing those 3 folders (Windows, Start menu, Programs), any idea why? Pls help and let me know.

Have just done the same with the HTC Footprints icon but haven't got a duplicate. The program is still there because Footprints is still available as a Home Screen Tab.
Does anyone know how to re create a shortcut on the start menu?
Thank you.

i've just got my HD2 and noticed this too, can't access my windows folder from my laptop!! - total commander it is... for now!
how about this "JSPA Program Manager v3.10"
will it be help ...
shortcut links still appearing after being moved
I'm having some issues with moving various shortcut links around...
I've used JSPA program manager to change my HD2 start menu screen (not the sense home screen). I've created a few new folders and moved various shortcut links into the folders to make the start menu screen less cluttered. However I've an issue, which I can't seem to resolve.
I've created a folder "Skyscape" and moved (or at least I thought I'd moved) 60 various Skyscape application shortcuts to the Skyscape folder. After closing JSPA down, and navigating to the start menu screen, all the skyscape shortcuts still appear. Checking the Skyscape folder I find all the links are there, though they appear in a random order - is there any program that can help organize links & folders into varying order i.e. alphabetically, creation date etc.
I've navigated using 'Total Commander' and 'Resco File Explorer' to My Device>Windows>Start Menu>Programs and I find that the various Skyscape applications links aren't there... and checking the My Device>Windows>Start Menu>Programs>Skyscape folder I find all the links as expected.
I've also checked HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\IsShortcutEnable is set to '0' which it is... as detailed in hint 42> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Seems like something is amiss, almost like the start menu screen needs some kind of refresh...
Anyone got any helpful advice or hints as to how I can rid myself of the links on the start menu screen?
I downladed an application and It did not work right so I deleted it but the icon is still in my start menu how can I get rid of it?
Can someone tell me soome good apps I can get that are worth while for the HTC?

Tap file explorer/windows/start menu/programs and then delete the unwanted icon. It will be gone from your start menu
1. You should give the post a title which points to you problem!
2. How did you delete it? via removing the app folder from storage? This is as senseful as deleting shortcuts on a normal pc...
You should use the uninstall-function in general (Settings-->Applications-->Remove Applications)
3. To get rid of the icon, you can:
a) reinstall the app and remove it with the uninstall-function (most convenient way, which also makes most sense)
b) Use a file explorer (not sure if the stock one works) like total commander (freeware) or resco explorer and goto Windows-->Startmenue-->Programms and delete the shortcuts file.
Sorry double post.
Ahhh, thanks I will try that now can ou advice me some good applications?
