RomUtility stopped working using VISTA! - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 Software Upgrading

Help!
I have an Orange M600 which needs the radio updating as I have a newer SIM which doesn't allow me to send texts.
I sync the device using WMDC then run the RomUpdateUtility as soon at I see the progress bar an error appears 'ROMUpdateUtility MFC Application has stopped working'.
I have followed guidance notes on updating the drivers through device manager etc etc, but to no avail.
I pretty much stuck on this one, any ideas would be hugely recieved.
Thanks.

That's because the Prophet RUU aren't developerd for Vista! You can only upgrade your device under Vista using a Virtual Machine! I suggest you to use VMware Player and/or WMware Workstation!
You can create only with VMware Workstation Virtual Machines from WMware, WMwarePlayer is, like the name says, a player for a Virtual Machine!
Or you use another Virtual Machine software, but keep an eye on fully redirection of USB functions!

There is a way to use RUUs under Vista. But you have to replace the Vista's driver with XP's driver and it can work. There are some descriptions how to replace the driver and get it running. Search the net for it!
It is also described here on xda-developers. Have a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723

it's a pain.. but i flash my S200 with my other WinXP machine now...

Activsync wont install as I dont have Windows SP2

Well atleast I think thats the reason. I have Windows XP and have managed to download Acivesync up to 3.8.
But this doesnt seem to be locating my phone. I think this is because the phones drivers are in a bundle with the activsync 4.0 which is with my CD disk (Which wont install)
Any ideas how I can sort this out. I cant get XP SP2 because my windows is from the back of a truck... Unfortunately.
Ok don´t worry. There´s always an answer 4 everything
As you say, active sync 4.0, which is the lowest activesync´s version that works with windows 2005, only get installed over windows xp if you have sp 2. But you can upgrade your xp system to service pack 2 although your xp is from the back of the truck. Just look for a "back truck" method in google, because you can do it
salu2
Hmmm, Ive looked. Cant find a way.
How does one install SP2 without a genuine windows?
not the place here, but i have got activesync 4 running on my xpsp1 box, i refuse to use SP2, perhapse you can sp1 your install of windows, or find the back of the truck method for that :side:
so will it work with either sp1 or sp2 ?

Hi,
You may try popol's solution & let us know if it works for you too!
I've read of a third party service pack solution also but never tried the links, damn i didn't even tried to take notes so I can't help you out. You may try to google though. :?
Cheers,
rhmartin
ActiveSync 4.1 doesn't require SP2, but it does require at least SP1
Supported Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 for Itanium-based Systems; Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium-Based Systems; Windows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition (Itanium); Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
Windows XP2 doesn't require validation either. You can just download it from Microsoft's site and install it. Except if you are using Windows Update. In that case you need to set your Automatic Updates to Automatic. Otherwise you cannot get anything from Windows Update and you can get only Critical Updates. (Which would include SP2)
Good Luck

How to sync a WM2003 AND a WM5 device on the same PC?

I have an HP iPaq rx3715 (WM2003), which I used to sync with ActiveSync 3.8. Never any problems.
Nowadays I also have a MDA Vario (WM5), which can only be synced with ActiveSync 4.1, so I installed 4.1. Synching the Vario is no problem.
Now... The problem... I can no longer sync my iPaq.
The iPaq needs ActiveSync 3.8, the MDA Vario needs ActiveSync 4.1.
There is no way to have both versions installed on the same PC. I tried.
I even tried to install the different versions on seperate XP accounts. Didn't work either.
In theory I could install 3.8 on PC1, and install 4.1 on PC2.
The problem with that is that the PST-file is located on PC1, and not on PC2. For security-reasons it is not possible to run a copy of the PST on PC2. (Besides... It wouldn't not be a very handy workaround.)
Now... How can I sync the above two devices on the same PC, with the same PST-file?
Anyone???
AS 4.1 includes 3.8 in it.
When you sync 2003, all icons etc become old type - I do it everyday - sync my universal and sync my Benq p50
No issues.
Well.... My rx3715 won't sync on AS4... But AS4 is needed for the MDA Vario... :|
Anyone else any ideas?
Why do the iPAQ need AS 3.8? Alls WM2003 Devices are working with AS 4 too.
Hello Sjaakman!
Unfortunately, i don't know an alternative way to sync a PPC with a PC, but I can tell you that I've successfully synchronized a rx3715 with a PC running XP SP2 and AS 4.1 many times, infect I even managed to sync a Dell with WM 2002 with the same PC no problem.
I suggest you make sure you have the latest version of AS and that the installation is clean. It is possible that while trying to install the previous version you somehow damaged the current installation which is why it wont sync.
Good luck!
I tried and I tried and I tried.... And I could never get it to work...
I just now tried a clean install of AS... And what do you know... It works
Thanks.

Not sure how you got it to work.
I was never able to get my iPAQ h6315 to sync with AS 4.1. After struggling with it a while, I noticed that in fact, Microsoft states the following on the AS 4.1 download page:
- ActiveSync 4.1 is the latest sync software release for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.
- For customers using Windows Mobile 2003 or 2002 powered devices, please continue using ActiveSync 3.8.

I just wanted to add that I believe this statement means you don't need to upgrade unless you have a WM5 device.
If any one is interested I can tell you from experience that I've successfully synchronized devices with OSs WM2002, WM2003 / SE (including iPaq 6315), WM5 and CE 4.2 (not PPC) with a clean install of AS 4.1 and no tweaking done. So far it appears to be completely backward compatible.
Just for the record: I am not trying to defend MS. But if you have a similar problem to the one mentioned in this thread, you should check the AS installation before breaking your head trying to find another solution. The problem could also be on the device side, and may be solved by hard reset (not pleasant but effective).

Windows Vista and HTC Prophet Upgrading

I have been living with Windows Vista Beta 2 Build 5384 since June. This is an "evoluting version" that is upgraded/improved/corrected from time to time. All in all I should not have done that and stay with XP Pro but I was not sure how to unistall it. However, the Windows Mobile Sync function works well with my HTC prophet (Qtek S200) which is equipped with ROM 2.15.23.27 WME, 3/9/06, Radio version 02.19.21, Protocol version 4.1.13.09, ExtROM version 2.15.13.121. Last week, after a little research, I decide to upgrade with RUU_Prophet_2151327_22113102_022021_Dopod_PDAMobizEdition_v101 though I was not that sure that it was really an upgrade (I was looking for the Push-Email feature). In any event, the upgrade program did not work. I am stuck. It stopped regularly with a code error [202]: Th update utility (V2.5.2) could not connect to the PDA Phone. All comments are welcome
I can only speak for the Blue Angel on this - but I couldn't upgrade it using Vista because Activesync is used for the connection. However, in Vista, Activesync has been replaced and it cannot be installed on Vista. In the end, I got out a spare HDD, dropped it into my pc, installed XP FLP and upgraded using that instead.
RC1 of Vista (Build 5600) is now out to certain testers and I can confirm that Mobile Center is no longer present/doesn't work properly. This is also true of 5536 and 5552. The PDA will show up in Computer and you can browse it - but there was no utility to sync. Activesync can again, not be installed either.
Windows Mobile Device Center
With respect to the Sync function, I recall that the "Windows Mobile Device Center" that has replaced in Windows Vista the ActiveSync 4.1 of the past did not work until I triggered the firewall options. After it worked well though the Notes included in the Contacts (MC Outlook) are not synchronised correctly. Hence, my surprise for the impossibility to upgrade s explained above.

Noob questions

Hi all, after reading a thread on windows vista (I have home premium, 32bit), I am a little shaky about flashing my brand new htc fuze. Is there anyone out there that can give me the idiot guide to the process I need to follow to get the mercury rom into my phone? As I said in an earlier post, I am fairly computer literate, but after reading some conflicting info on here and seeing so many different options for just setting up the flash (programs for the pc to make the flash work) I am kind of baffled. The last thing I need is a brand new shiny 300 dollar paperweight. Any help or shared experiences would be awesome, and thanks ahead of time!
Welcome to forums
If you follow instructions here all will be ok:

Good luck,
Another question, microsoft says to use mobile device center since I have vista instead of active sync. Does the mobile device center work for flashing? The flashing your first gsm sticky says to use active sync. This is of the discrepancies I was worried about after reading the vista issues sticky.
Flashing should work fine with Windows Mobile Device Center. I've been flashing my Kaiser on 64-bit Windows 7 and 32-bit Vista for weeks, without any problems, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Dave
I use Windows Mobile Device Center for any flashing I do.
I have a HTC Touch (elfin) and the WMDC works fine.
Ive flashed roms through it using windows vista and windows 7.

[Q] Windows Emulator

Hello!
I'm a french Asus TF700 Prime user , and I'm looking for a solution emulating Windows (XP or later) on my tablett.
I'm sure I have read something like this but I'm unable to find it again.:crying:
Could you please help me?Because I really need a windows emulatorfor my job (just one program to run but only created for Windows XP or later)
Thank's a lot !!!!
If you already have a computer, but don't want to carry it with you, you can use a remote desktop app to connect your computer and run the program. TeamViewer for Remote Control is a good one.
If you don't have a computer, you are out of luck.
