How to install software under Vista - General Topics

I have tried to install a few programms but i always get the error message that active sync is missing. Unfortunately there is no active sync available for Vista.
Is there a solution for that?
Thanks

I am just got another pc using vista, but i encountered a problem during installing activesync 4.5. When i wanted to run the program, it came out a warning windows saying that the program is block by due to certain reason, and it offer me solve it by downloading a program from a windows web. tried to download it and install it, but still the same problem occurs.
Anyone could help me to solve this??
Another problem, is there any solution if i use mac, and wanted to upgrade my rom from mac? thanks in advance...

for Vista you need Microsofts Mobile Device Center
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
^^ He's right and by default (On most Vista Machines) it should be already installed. So just try to plug in your phone and it should detect and install automatically.
Thats right starmena, but with the standard software that comes with Vista, you just can access your files on the Phone and the storage card. You are not able to install apps and sync your contacts, emails, and stuff.
btw. cant help you with the mac stuff sorry
you can try this for mac
http://www.sync-mac.com/syncmate.html?gr=smate02&gclid=CJXx5o_poJcCFRQhnAoddFgxGA
or this
http://www.markspace.com/products/windowsmobile/mac/windows-mobile-sync-software.html
but as always we don't recommend macs on a windows forum
Thanks guys for the reply.
i agreed with some of the reply, the one that is pre-installed on the vista, cant use it to upgrade rom and other. is there any solution to it?

G-mail setup??

Does anyone know how to set up your g-mail without having the data plan from t-mobile. I am an att user and cannot figure out the answer to this. Whenever I try my g-mail account gets rejected and i just get a message that reads "There is a problem communicating with the google servers: This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services." I cannot enable wi-fi because i can't get past this stupid g-mail setup to get to the actual home screen.
Search google for AT&T APN settings. Or go to http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/how-to-use-your-g1-on-at-and-t-without-a-data-plan-8735/

Thanks JF but I'm using vista so the new hardware wizard does not appear vista just automatically installs the drivers. When i uninstall them and attempt to apply the new ones it just automatically installs everything again. I do not know how to stop the automatic instillation of the standard driver for the G1.

Go into device manager > find the device > right mouse click > click update driver > then browse my computer > find the .inf file > then let it install > then use the device. I'm on Windows 7 M1, it's essentially the same.

Vista just says that "windows has determined that the drivers for this device are up to date" and will not let me install any new ones or change the old ones.

Backing up contacts

Hello
I own a HTC Diamond 2 phone. I want to back up my contacts from time to time, in order to do this Windows Mobile Device Center says I need Outlook to do this. So after some googling I came across Outlook Express 6 setup download page. However when i try to install it says 'Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue'. Im sure I have the correct setup file because I tried multiple download sources. What can I do?

Instead of using Outlook use Pim backup to bk all your contacts, messages etc.
Does Pim backup also work for Windows Mobile 6.5?

Trouble Installing Active Sync on PC

Hey peeps
When I install my Active Sync it all of a sudden gives me an error saying 'J-Drive is an invalid drive. Please select another drive'. I have nothing on my J-Drive. Actually, I don't even HAVE a J-Drive so I don't know why the installatio wizard is going there in the first case.
I have had this phone for 2 years. I have installed this program before with no problem but now this new computer does this.
Any recommendations?
What is the OS you are using? If it is anything later than XP, then you need WMDC and not Active sync.

I am not sure, but it looks like you installed it first time from a pen drive or something, now you are reinstalling it?
If that is the case, uninstall it from Add/Remove programs, use a registry cleaner to clean up the mess and then try installing it again.
Best of luck
