HTC s710 8gb memory - HTC Vox

Hello,
I have since 1 month a S710, yesterday i bought a memory card with 8 GB memory.
I read the phone maual and it is possible to put in a 2gb memory card.
Here's my question: Is it on a way possible with a crack our a update to use an 8 GB micro SD card in my s710?
Cheers!
Houthakker

OK, this is getting pretty annoying. There is an thread on this topic on the first page of this sub forum. Did you read that? Did you try it with the 8 GB card before posting???

Annoying is the style of your answer. Thank you very much. If I did not read it, if it would work, I wouldn't be posting. I'd be happy if we could stop discussing this in public right now. Send a PM if you have further comments towards my postings.
...
I've got a SanDisk MicroSDHC Premier 8GB, and it does work perfectly in my Computer using the USB converter SanDisk provided with it.
However the card is by no means recognized in the phone, and the Manual and text's otherwise in the Net say the phone would accept up to 2 GB cards in size.
Would be great if someone here has an idea what could be wrong, or knows of the which firmware allows usage of cards above 2GB
Thanks people!

Your question clearly asked if 8GB would work in the phone, it did not state that you tried it without sucess or anything else.
Numerous people have been using 8GB cards perfectly fine with their Vox, others however seem to have issues. You can partition the card to have 4 2GB slices or try 2 4GB slices and see if it is recognized.

How would I partition the card?
cheers

Are you sure? WM6 for O2 Xda Flame?
I noticed this issue for quite long time and did some research works on it, currently the best solution is to use those TF cards made in Japan instead of those made in Taiwan. guess should be due to the control chip differences of the cards.
I am using a 2gb Kingston microSD and works well.
My big question is will it support the micro SDHC format for future cards that exceed 2gb?
Same issue with a Sandisk 2 gb. Tried to format in fat16. Not better.
But sometimes, after a softreset or a wakeup the card is available without the need to reinsert it.
I have send an email to the support. They answer 2 gb is not supported. But on the Flame website, it is written that 2 gb is supported.
Patriot 2 GB works fine for me.
Kingston is another brand I recommend, seconded by andyh's comment.
I used to have a similar problem but since i replaced with the new one, problem solved
I have go to the shop and change my micro sd from scandisk to transcend the problem sloved.

MicroSD HC Card corrupted in Polaris

Hello!
(Please excuse me my bad english).
I have a Polaris (english version) and recently my Sandisk MicroSD HC card (6GB) become corrupted. Specially I lost all the subfolders inside /Program Files main folder (instead the subfolders I had only a couple of large files --more than 1GB-- and various other files with strange characters as name).
Anyone had this problem...? It seems that may be a problem like the Artemis had... I'm thinking to patch my Polaris with the Artemis patch but I don't know if it will work...
i have a Sandisk MicroSD HC card 8GB and no problem encountered actually.
Ziggy
I have a Sandisk MicroSD *Gb too and no problems.
I never Format a storagecard but one question: Do you Format it on pc with FAT32 and 32kb Clustersize? Try it.. maybe it helps..

Hi guys, I would like to know the slot microSD if is compatible microSD HC and declared by HTC, so it should be a logo "microSD HC" at least on manual user or on the packaging of pda.
Excuse my bad English

It is compatible with MicroSD HC, although, the slot doesn't have a specific logo.
I use it with an 8Gb MicroSD HC card and it works fine.
8Gb MicroSD HC Format?
Those that are using the Sandisk 8Gb MicroSD HC, did you format it first? If so, how?
Format? I never have formatted a card. Just plugged it in all the time. So I did with my 8GB Card and the Polaris.

I didn't need to format the Sandisk.
However, if there is a need to format you need to format using FAT32 and not FAT16 or NTFS.
the Polaris is definately sdhc compatible...
while i was waiting for mine to get to me, i called HTC and asked this question.
i was bored and started accessory shopping before my unit got to me.
anyway, 8gb SanDisk works perfectly for me out of the box, no issues at all.
Thanks for the replies. The post above just got me thinking.
Formatting Micro SDHC
You should NEVER format these cards with standard utilities my experience is that it corrupts them and they are only recognised as 2GB cards there after...Google for SDFormatter v2 this does it correctly...

Hi,
encountered a similar problem when I soft resetted the device when an application was locked up while accessing the SD card. Fortunately I did not lose any data but had several additional folders and files with cryptic names. My solution was to backup all usable data, format the SD card as FAT32 on a desktop computer and restore the backup. Worked fine.

You can use standard utilities, but you need to know which format.
Example: for SD HC you NEED to format with FAT32.
as the guy above said.... you must know what you are working with and how to use it..
if you are using the sdhc then format it as FAT32 and it will be fine...
i also corrupted my memory card (SanDisk 8gb) by leaving it in the card and taking out the batter and sim and then replacing the battery,,,
all i did was use my usb adapter for the 8gb sdhc and format it on my pc for FAT 32 and it worked a charm...
Corrupt memory Card
Think I spoke to soon in an earlier post today my entire card vanished knew there was 3GB in use and 5GB free but nothing to show for it, all very reminiscent of the 2GB bug in the early days of the Orbit 1...
yep, I can confirm that. I've reached the >3Gb usage of my 8GB SanDIsk MicroSD card. And lost two times everything beyond 2GB of data (mostly the new ones). Looks like a bug.....had a backup. I think I will remove some data and see whats happen....
Dejan
This is such a worrying thread. Deja Vu re:the Artemis.
I'm up to 4 gig of my 8 gig card with no problems so far. Is anyone using the SD sentry program from the Artemis threads to monitor for problems?

How can I prove this? Was the data corrupted or deleted? I mean, were the files still there but broken or did they vanish?

I agree a format is best option, I can confirm that the Vox takes at least a 4GB card as I have one in mine and thus as mentioned above 8GB should be possible.
Actually...I just realised if I load the 1gb storage card with mp3's, i can access it all. But looking at the about page, the card doesnt show. Please excuse my ignorance, but where does it show how much space is left on the storage card?
Thx!
officialy, from Sandisk it supports 8Gb.

RAPH100 not recognizing 8GB Class6 microSD

Hi,
I'm new to this forum as well as to the HTC Raphael. I've got a RAPH100 and did the latest offical ROM Upgrade (ROM: 5.05.407.1 GER, Radio: 1.11.25.01DE, 52.58.25.30U) and now it's not recognizing my microSD card anymore. Before, I had to reinsert the card 2-5 times, but often it didn't work anyway.
My storage card is a:
Transcend microSDHC Class 6 8GB
MMAGR08GUDCA-DB
I F0240000 914
52511 2452
I already searched for a sort of patch, but typically it has to work out-of-the-box i guess.

Bastard!! that was my first fix!!!
ok, more useful help:
1) its possible you're SD card has a defect your PC (through its card reader) doenst mind, but your phone does. If possible (ie you have more of these cards, or friends with the same phone) try your card in other (same & different) phones / other (same) cards in yours
1 i) It's possible your phone OR card has a minor pin problem - have a look & see if there is anything obvisously wrong with the card contacts / phone pins (you might need a torch)
1 ii) try a different micro SD card (any type or size) - if it reads 100% fine, then it is unlikely to be a pin problem on the phone (unlikely - not impossible)
[when i say pin here, i mean micro SD card pins / pickups / contacts, not any kind of password]
2) How about flashing back to the old rom (if its available)? - then testing again
3) How about flashing a custom rom? (this is a little involved - its not difficult, but will require some time to ready & understand before you start)

I'm sorry, haven't found a solution yet. I'm thinking of flashing the newest Energy Rom, because there are several users reporting that this could fix the compatibility issue. But I haven't already had the time to do so.
@Bruce:
After searching a second a time I found some threads about exactly that problem. I haven't found them the first time because I just searching in Raphael, not accessoiries ;-)
Well, I flashed the recent Energy ROM, which seemed to help at first but now my phone doesn't see the microSD anymore. But I put a ROM Image to the root of my storage card and booted into bootmanager et voila: it asks for update, so its not a hardware issue i suppose.

No, if the hardware can read the ROM image on the card then i dont think its a hardware problem. (Still can but not likely) So it seems to be a problem with Windows mobile or with (all!) the roms we are using.
Considering that this problem (now and then) excist in all ROMS i cant imagen that it are the ROMs that causing the problems. For sure when there are so many ROMs, aka: Now it seems that there is no ROM developper that can solve this problem. I cant imagen that. Those guys are smart enough to figure this out.
Considering that: Other cards do work WITH windows mobile AND with all roms we are using you might think that its the brand thats causing the problem... But i read more forums and it seems that more cards and brands can have this problem. But not all the time... Trancends is leading for shure but not the only one (adata)...
Considering that: My "defect card" does work in a card reader you would still think that it is the hardware... But why does the hardware read other cards then? So it really cant be the hardware...
Considering that its Windows Mobile then? That might be... But then again alot of cards do work in WM.... So that cant be the problem either...
Considering that all the cards must be produced conform protocol or standard xxx all the cards must work "the same" or at least be compatible with devices... But we know for shure that this isnt the case...
So:
Most cards work, so hardware cant be the problem, windows mobile / ROMS can read most cards. So that cant be the problem either. The problem excist in alot of Brands. A few got way more problems than other brands.
So might it be the production process of the cards? Are the cards being dubble checked when they are made or when the are ready? Is it the brand that sells all cards including the defect cards. And do some brands check there cards better then others... Might there be so little manufactoring problems they over see them. I guess more research would really help here...
Those cards came way to fast on the marked for budge prices... And it seems that we are paying the price for it now....

I have only seen this issue with the transcends or the aData cards which are the bottom of the line cards. I would suspect that the data transmit rate and consistency is what causes the issue. Even if you get the device to recognize it, you can't stream media from it without freezes, etc.
I have the same problem but with a 4 GB - Class 4 - microSDHC kingston.
Wmobile since I can not format it is as if protected. takes some files to read the card, including executables, coming to hang the device.
salu2
I had the same issue with the same card (Transcend C6 8GB). I was unable to fix the issue. Good luck!
I noticed:
My bosses Fuze wouldn't see it (stock rom)
My friends VZ Touch Pro would see it (stock rom)
My old 8525 would see it (cooked rom)
And a bunch of people at my work with the Titan, could see the card.
I just traded with a friend who had a Transcend C4 8GB card.
Here's my previous post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525445
I changed it for an kingston 8 gb. That worked on the fly...
I now changed to a SanDisk 8GB ... working like a charm
My AT&T FUZE with the Energy ROM would only sometimes read my Adata 8Gb Class 6 Micro SDHC. I swithced it with an older Kingston 6Gb Class 4 Micro SDHC I had on my camera and haven't had anymore problems. Read about several people on different websites with the same problem. I could not find a fix either. The Raphaels just don't like those cheap micro sd cards.
Good Day! Friends please help for my trouble with this (MMAGR08GUDCA-DB) microSDHC card... All it's ok work, but today, flash card say to me: format not possible sd is write-protect! Oo but i'm not added write-protect nd no added some code for this card...
Please say to me, how i can formated this card?????????????????
I very very need your help, 2 days internet serfing not much normal result (( and i can't find any firmware tools to format this flash card (((((((((((
Formatting can be done using an micro sd-adapter (i dont know if you can set writeprotect then...). Then you can format the card in a normal pc. But if that doenst work also, then i would think it over to send the card back for an other brand. I formatted my old card on a normal pc to. That went fine... but then stil the rapheal dit not reconised the card....
So it really might be the brand... beside that, i dont know if a class 6 card works well...

[Q] 64GB SDcard format question

I ordered a new Sandisk 64GB SDcard but after reading many threads on the topic here, I have a question about the format. From what I've read, in order to have the card recognized by CWM and other custom recoveries, it needs to be in Fat32 format rather than exFAT. Many people have suggested that you can use a Windows based 3rd party software to properly format the card, but I don't have a SDcard reader on my PC so I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I tried searching the forums about posts from people in a similar situation (i.e no card reader on PC) but was unable to find anything. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to retain the full 64gb capacity and still be compatible with CWM without having access to a SDcard reader? Thanks very much.
Link to card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820171582
Will need to find a PC to format it. It comes ExFat and not only recoveries won't see it but roms/kernels may not see it either. The program is guiformat. Can Google and find it easily. The site is little confusing. Click on the picture of the app and it will give you the download.

Yea. Only difference between 32 and 64 is don't need a special program for 32. Windows can do it natively. Good luck.
I realize this question may sound ridiculous, but I figured there was no harm in asking.
Is there any chance I could stick the 64gb card in my old Droid X, connect it to my PC, and then use the program you suggested to format it to FAT32? I guess I was hoping the phone could act like a SDcard reader of sorts for my PC. Thanks again.

I had a droid x but I'm not sure if it handled a 64gb but if it does you should be able to format it the way you want.I bought a $4 usb micro sd card reader for my SanDisk 64gb card and I hooked it up to my pc usb slot and used a partition program and was able to successfully format it to fat32.Have not had one problem with it being recognized by any Rom or kernel, think it gave me 59gb total after it formatted.

Won't work from phone but go to radio shack and get cheapest one of these you can find. May be able to get with 1GB card. Take pic and show them what you want. Sorry I been busy and didn't think about it. Good call Droid. $12 max.
So I purchased a SDcard reader, hooked it up to my PC, and formatted it with the guiformat program that was recommended earlier in the thread. I set the allocation size to 65536 and left the Quick Format option checked. However, after it finished, both Windows and the S3 only show it as a 32gb card (approximately 27 GB total storage space). Is there another formatting program for Windows or any other ideas you could recommend so I can get the correct storage size (64gb)? Thanks again.

There's another thread detailing all the issues with exfat 64gb cards here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672
I encountered the same "hiccup" as you pertaining to the 32 gb issue.
I ended up using a program called EaseUS Partition Master to finally get all back to normal. I wiped my sdxc partition, it did come back with some message that something didn't complete ???, but then I formatted as fat 32, primary partition, and got the entire 64gb back and so far... ( fingers crossed ),.. all seems to be working well.
With the card formatted as exfat, as soon as I got around 8 gb of music, photos, etc.. the card simply would loose its' file structure and just start acting weird. All files would still show up if I pulled the card and put in an sdxc reader on the PC... but my Galaxy S3 never would recover them properly.
This has got to be some kind of "bug" in the phone as you'll see in the other thread this problem is quite common.
For what it's worth.. I seemed to have much better luck transferring large chunks of data with the card in the reader opposed to hooked up while in the phone. ( speeds kept dropping via the phone cable )
Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I actually tried the EaseUS Partition program you referred to, but it still remained at 32gb. I ended up returning the card to Newegg and will just get a 32gb to replace it as I'd rather not have to repeat this process. Thanks again for the useful info. I sincerely appreciate it.
Sure... I vaguely remember I had to try to format as NTFS first for some reason before I got it to properly format with entire 64gb fat 32. I spent countless hours trying to work out all the bugs with this card and exfat. Samsung states the Galaxy S3 phone is compatible with it... but there is definitely an issue with file structure once you start loading it up.
Quick update:
I ended up returning my Sandisk 64GB and replaced it with a G.Skill 32GB (Class 10) that was on sale for $22 from Newegg. Surprisingly, it came already formatted as FAT32 so I didn't have to mess around with it to get it working with CWM and custom kernels. Seems to be working great so far, and is plenty fast, so I'm pretty happy with the end result. I guess it might have been nice to have an extra ~30GB, but I mainly stream all my music/video anyways, so I'll have a tough time even filling up this new card.
Thanks again to everyone who gave me their advice and input on trying to get my first SDcard formatted correctly. Even though I wasn't ultimately successful, I sincerely appreciate everyone's time & effort.
