Plugging in Touch Cruise Crashes WMP? - Touch Cruise General

Okay, this one's got me stumped. All of a sudden, just plugging my Touch Cruise into my Vista PC causes Windows Media Player to crash (sometimes even when it's not running!)
I can't sync any music, because WMP won't launch or stay running if my Touch Cruise is attached to the computer.
No specific error message or code, just "a problem has caused Windows Media Player to stop working." Thanks, Microsoft...
I did some Googling, and it seems this was a problem with WMP 11 on XP systems with some flash-based music players, but they only have an XP patch, not a Vista patch (I'm assuming the fix is already integrated into the Vista version).
Worse, I can't re-install Windows Media Player 11 on Vista to try and fix things, because WMP11 is part of the OS and there's no "repair" option or a way to download a copy to reinstall...
Anyone have any clue as to what got corrupted? I've tried re-flashing my Touch (original ROM, never tried a cooked version), even restored my PC from a backup from 3 days ago. Nothing fixes this.

Solved my own problem -- it seems that when I upgraded my CPU earlier this week, Windows Media Player's DRM files were corrupted (probably keyed to the CPU serial number).
I went into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows and deleted the entire DRM folder.
After that, Windows Media Player is working perfectly again, and I can once again sync music files with my Touch Cruise.

cannot synchronize with media player

Hi
Can anyone help please.
I want to download photos from the device to the home computer.
I have had the device for a week and am unable to synchronize with windows media player 11. Media player does not appear to recognise the device at all. All other folders synchronize OK. I am using zone alarm security suite 7 and have changed the settings as per instructions from the active sync website. Still no joy. I am using XP professional. Thankyou.
Is Windows Media Player recognizing your Touch Cruise? And if so, try deleting the relationship and starting a new relationship.
This doesn't fix your issue, but could be a potential work around, have you tried syncing to the micro sd card directly?
Thanks for the reply.
Have tried what you suggested, is the same and media player will not recognise the card either.
I found this info on activesync website "If you upgrade to Windows Media Player 10 after you have installed ActiveSync on your desktop PC, you must perform a repair installation of ActiveSync. This enables successful Media Synchronization to a Windows Mobile-based deviceAny ideas on how to do the repairs installation?
Typically a reinstallation will do the trick
Thank you.
I have reinstalled activesync and run the repair as per activesync suggestions.
I did have problems running the repair, keep getting an error message "internal error 2356 avticesync.cab". I uninstalled, rebooted and then reinstalled activesync. I then ran the repair with no errors, thought everything would be OK but still media player will not recognise the hand set?.
It really sounds as though, your issue is more of a windows media player issue than an ActiveSync issue. The fact that Windows Media Player isn't giving you the option to sync with even the SD card when it is plugged solo means that WMP isn't recognizing plugged in devices.
What version of WMP do you have?
If you are using the latest, version 11, what happens if you are on the Sync tab, and you plug in an SD card? Anything at all?

Windows crashes nearly everytime

Hi all
i have a problem.
its not related to only one pc but all windows xp machines ive used ( im not going down vista route at all).
nearly everytime i connect my phone/ppc to windows, it crashes, ie, i get the windows 32 process host or something has an error then the RAPC window with 1 minute countdown comes on and my computer crashes or restarts.
then if i connect my ppc, its fine.
its not only with 1 pocket pc, its with the 2-3 ive tried.
they all run windows mobile 6 or 6.1...
anybody have the same problem and know what to do? activesync 4.5, u can see the icon connecting and it has made the noise its found the pocket pc, then bam...
i couldnt find this topic anywhere in xda, dont know where else to look
Cheers
It is not the PPC's at all - rather incompatible hardware on your desktop, such as an installed dial-up modem or other network device.
I had similar difficulties back in time on a Dell desktop until I removed a special DS Sound Card. A friend of mine had similar problems until he removed - following my recommendation - his dial-up modem card.
You will have to figure out what device on your desktop causes this incompatibility - please: before plugging out anything, remove the installed drivers first!
oh man. they are both laptops. thats going to be tough to remove something/uninstall drivers - doable but its going to annoy me everytime i log in
Hmmm,
try running your pc in save mode and run only what is needed for ActiveSync to work - not a nice solution but at least you can determine if this is an incompatibility issue or not.

Windows 7 RC1 / RAPHFUZE Media Player Sync not recognizing phone

Any suggestions for me...
My Fuze (Custom WM6.5 DaG rom) is not recognized in Windows Media Player in Windows 7 RC1. The phone does sync with Outlook though and that works well.
I can't seem to figure out why WMP won't see the device.
Thanks!
Put your phone as a disk drive when you connect it.
Thanks pwncakes, worked great. Was this how I got it working before my upgrade to wm6.5? Just curious as I had it working but can't recall having to go into disk mode.
Thanks again.
I had the same issues as the OP but they all dissapeared when I rebooted my PC and deleted the old partnerships in WMP (w7 7100).
The above was true to XP aswell.
I just flashed again and- same thing, but PwnCakes193 fix works a treat without the reboot.

[Q] Windows Media Player Sync Issues

Hi guys,
I used to run Android 2.1 on a Samsung Galaxy Captivate and it would sync fine to WMP. I would connect the USB, mount it, and it would sync. I updated to froyo recently and it won't sync under USB mode because it gives me errors. Fine, I thought, I'll sync under Media Player mode. I connect under Media Player Mode and try to sync but get the error C00D1236 in WMP. Nothing syncs and my device just vibrates a lot of times in bursts of three.
I know there's the 16 bit character deletion thing, but I used the checker and don't seem to have any long cache filenames. Can anyone help?
the WMP version is 11.0.5721.5280 in Windows XP if anyone was wondering

Can't see any tab subdirs when connected to XP PC

I am having a problem connecting the tab to an older XP PC. It sees it as a portable media device and shows both internal and external memory. But, I only see files and directories at the root level, nothing below. All the directories are blank, yet I can copy files from the root. I tried the universal naked drivers, they installed as MPT media device OK, but same issue. I can't install the Asus PC Suite software because I have no internet connection on the PC and get a TL bootstrap error when I try to tether it to my phone. I also have no XP install CD with me either. Any suggestions?
[Edit] Back at you from my Linux distro. What a difference. Plug the phone in and tell it to share the internet and Linux finds it no problem. Same with the tab and there are all my subdirs. Plug-n-play, no drivers, no hassle - just works. How did MS go so far and get so embedded?
All I can figure is it must be some kind of Windows security since I don't have the Asus drivers suite installed. Like it thinks maybe its not my tab (stolen?) Same with the TL bootstrap error since I don't have HTC sync installed.
[Solved] Windows Media Player 11 needed for MPT connectivity
Well, after installing 151 Windows updates (computer had not been connected to internet for over 3 years), downloading HTC Sync at work and taking it home on a flash drive and installing that, then getting Internet sharing working on a cabled connection to my phone, and finally Asus Suite downloaded and installed, still no subdirectories were showing. Arg^2. Exactly the same problem before any upgrades or installing the Asus Suite.
So it was self-evident, the problem was with some Windows component that was not update related. During the Asus Suite install, a message comes up that you have to have Windows Media Player 11 installed to sync media files on the tablet. So I got to thinking, maybe some aspect of WMP 11 was involved with the MPT drivers and connectivity to the tablet, so the next day I downloaded WMP 11 from work, copied it to a flash drive, and installed it the following morning, and voila there are all my subdirectories, and I can freely exchange files now with the Windows PC. I had WMP 10 installed, and it wouldn't connect properly.
[Edit] I still get the TL bootstrap error as I do with my work PC when connecting the phone as an internet router, but the phone still connects and Internet Sharing is enabled and working despite this initial connection error.
