removing 02 software hard reset - General Topics

Can someone direct me to a walkthrough for a hard-reset on an xda mini s?
I have searched and searched these threads-alas! but i do recall that i can perform a hard reset to reload the o/s restart in basic mode and delete the unwanted software (which files it would be i dont know)
Also I've been following the guides given on this site to unlock cid (succsessful) and flash the rom on the pda, but cant get Vista to run the flash rom update utilities software to flash the rom to downgrade. It keeps closing it down. I've spent hours attemping this but have had to concede that Vista isnt wanting to play! yes i have installed active sync and the rom update version for Vista. Does the cab file that has to be installed on the pda have to be re-installed every time the thing is rebooted by the software? After dozens of goes i still have spl's of 2.1. (I only aim to flash the rom with the T-Mobile 2.6 version of WM5 to get a stable device at the moment)
Without wanting to spend valuable hours of my life persuing this i might just try it on a friends xp desktop Pc and see if i can get success.

My Wizard is Screwed and i aint no newbie

First let me tell you where i am at. I was running Farias WM6 Real Thing Rom, but there were a few bugs and a lot of junk programs i didn't want.
so i used the Faria ROMkitchen to flash my rom, which went fine, the phone flashed and everything was ok in use, however i left DRM selected which i dont want by mistake. and upon further examination the MS office icons are not in the programs menu, but the pword and pexcel files are in the windows directory and do load fine when executed. but i dont know why this was the case when i did have office selected.
and the major problem is when i connect via usb, activesync recognises the connection. but doesn't ask to create a partnership, but goes directly to guest profile. (I am using Activesync 4.5) and when i try to connect to my vista machine with Mobile Device Center i just recieve an error when the connection is active. I cannot even use the phone for push email with my exchange as i am unable to install my self signed certificate as it states it is unsuccessful when i attempt to install and gives me the classic microsoft helpdesk advice asking me to reboot .
so i tried to run through the kitchen again de-selecting DRM and reflashing, but when it tries the flash i recieve error ERROR [212]: FILE CREATE The update utility can not create the requested file. Please check your update utility. so i reset to the bootloader and tried the flash again and recieved error 300 saying i needed an updated Rom Upgrade Utility.
I then tried to install the Tmobile Ship Rom but this would not work as the upgrade utility reports that it cannot connect to the phone with various connection codes even in the bootloader.
My Wizard is a G3 device and has been CID unlocked and i have installed many a rom on this phone.
please help as i am on a malfunctioning WM6 rom that i cannot connect to via activesync and can only use for making calls only.
any help much appreciated, i have had occasional problems flashing in the past but i could resolve these easilly but this is leaving me stumped, it seems like the sync portion of the phone is not working correctly so i cannot downgrade to my original tmobile uk rom.

u try flashing on a different OS?
Update after much screwing around, i did try flashing on XP and also Vista but no go. interestingly i have finally managed to push through the oriiginal update from tmob but it was achieved by uninstalling and re-installing activesync a few times and booting into the bootloader its now upto 80% and running. another observation that is wierd, the WM6 rom that was installed was missing cpanel icons like power and backlight. i will upgrade using the kitchen one last time and see if it goes ok this time.

I'm having the same problem. I'm new to this and managed to load a WM6 rom with some pluses onto my wizard. I managed to get the bootloader screen. I haven't been able to do anything with bootloader screen (now or in the past)
What do I do now?
Interesting post. Does anyone know what the content of this update could be? Also moving to WM6.
It said it was a security update. I'm guessing it is similar to windows genuine advantage

hm, there is another possible update, but not a security one. Microsoft issued an update regarding the DST 07 change (USA/Canada).. I installed it manually, but possibly they have an automated update for this..
it is the automated update from within Windows Mobile. It is in the Settings screen.
Still stuck
Okay! Good News!
After trying many various things from Vista and XP I finally got something to work.
First, history of my phone. It is an O2 XDA mini s branded HTC Wizard (duh) that HAD a german O2 rom on it. I purchased this phone well over two years ago through a GSM importer. They reflashed it with an English O2 rom. So the keyboard was all wonky (fixed that) Then I flashed it with a Tmobile rom. Had some problems here and there. Somehow while I was using File Explorer the device hung while I was in the Windows folder. I reset the device and the Windows folder disappeared. It did some very strange things but the phone part worked, nothing else. Activesync and Windows Mobile Device Center would not recognize the device (not connect)
After much trial and error I finally got the Tmobile rom to work (downloaded it from their site)
THEN I flashed a WM6 rom (LOVED IT)
DO NOT DO WHAT I DID!!!!
On the device under settings, I turned on Windows Updates, the first thing it downloaded was a security update (on the phone, not PC) Then promptly killed my phone with a B&WSOD that said "Device Authentication Failure blah blah blah.
DO NOT DO THAT!!!!
What I did to fix it
I placed it into bootloader mode with the device first off and then holding the camera button while pressing and holding the power button. THe three colored screen shows up.
Then I plugged it via usb to my Windows XP machine (Vista doesn't play well with others) and then ran the rom upgrade I downloaded from Tmobile.
It worked!
After that it was all automatic, the device reset it self and Activesync recognized it. Now I'm reflashing the WM6 rom.
Yay for the good guys.
SO the Tmobile rom is finally flashing my device now. brb to check status...
This is why I've removed the Windows update and other "phone home" stuff in the WM6 roms from the roms I build. I'm sure MS is always looking for ways of shutting down the custom roms found here (and elsewhere).
There is no reason to do an update (IMO) on a custom rom. Sure, there may be security holes, but remember you are not running an authorized version of WM6 on an authorized device.

Failure to upgrade to official ATT ROM

I have previously upgraded to RWE wm6, now the official ATT upgrader says "you have a newer version of this software" and wont update to the latest ROM. Any suggestions to fool the updater and install official WM6 release?
Thanks in advance- this forum always amazes me!!
Is a simple edit of the payload file all thats needed here?

Awesome as always!! Thanks!!!!
Next question....Installer gets through initial phase, treo gets 4 dark colored bars, then connection is lost and install cant complete. I tried removing the SD card-no luck. Advice ?
Thanks again
I got the same problem , after the erase all data it just froze up ..... is it bricked. hopefully someone can help
I also had the same problem with my device but what i did is switch computers with Windows xp and with Activesync 4.5 that should do the trick
fixed
installed from XP instead of Vista...no problem at all. Appears Vista has trouble with recognizing the treo after loses activesync connection
seems my problem had to do with the unit, i did the sdupdater recovery tool from palm to no avail, finally i removed the battery and reinserted it and bam WM6 appeared after numerous attempt at upgrade and different ROMS tried. I asume the original upgrade got stuck and the removal of the battery, helped it finish. Who knows at least its not bricked

T-mobile (US) HTC HD2 installation failure?

I have the HTC HD2 recently released by t-mobile (3/24/10). Everytime I download and try to install a cabinet (.cab) file, I am greeted by the screen that reads (Installation Unsuccessful) Any suggestions for getting this to work? I have tried downloading from different sources.
sounds like ur installing apps that wasnt made for winmo 6.5
try installing BsB onto the device and turning on the unsigned apps button... hope it works Good Luck...
also a lil heads up, when askin a question alway let people know what ur doing what u hav and what u need, Device ?
Rom ?
app trying to use ?
and a bref descript of the problem
Thanks for the all the advice. I'll take that into consideration.
CABS meant for this device
I'm having the same issue. I flashed the ROM to the new T-MO version and worked great. Installed some CABS that I had installed before and suddenly I get this error on any CAB I try to install. Regardless if it is VIA Windows Marketplace, copied to the device by usb, sent over by WMDC, or downloaded directly on the device and saved. No prompt where to install, just pops up with installation failed. And some of these CABS I know for a fact work. It's got to be some kind of security issue I would think, but I'm not getting any prompt or warning.
I've scoured the web the last week and lots of people with this issue, but no solutions.
Suggestions?
HTC HD2 Installation of update
I am guessing you are speaking of the latest rom update put out by TMobile?
If so, go to TMobile here ----> http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml?
and then follow the instructions as given. I had a problem with my H2 then did this update and all is well.
Good Luck!
Certificates?
That's what I already did! And it was working fine, I was installing CABs, etc. Now nothing will install. I know that I can always do a hard reset, but something caused this problem and I can't keep hard resetting forever. I'm not a newbie here to flashing roms of working with windows mobile either. I did notice today though that under security/certificates there are no certificates now. There were lots of them installed from the factory with the original rom, but none now. I don't know if the rom flash wiped them and didn't reinstall, or something else did. It worked so I never checked after flashing. I suppose I could find someone else with a HD2 and have them send me copies of all there certs.
I'm having the same issue with any cabs im trying to install. Any solutions?

Any help??
US T-Mobile HD2 installation problem
Gosh, i never thought a lot of people would be having installation problems on their T-mobile HD2 like me.
I have the same unit, just had it last June 2010.
And i just couldn't get to install any third party application on it!
but im able to install apps if and only if i downloaded it on Windows Market place using my phone. Any other method aside from the the Windows Market Place in my phone wouldn't do. Like if i downloaded an application, any application, in my pc and transferring it to my phone through Microsoft's active sync or disc drive transfer and when i try installing it, it just wouldn't install?
i couldn't even install .Net Framework 3.5 on it to hoping to be able to use CHT or any other interesting apps requiring the framework. i got the .Net Framework Downloaded it frm here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483 and also here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
i also couldn't even get to install recommended drivers like Chainfire's HD2/Leo 3D Driver Patch. As you can see, i really couldnt install any requirement apps to get the good progs and stuffs =/ and i've downloaded a lot of apps already hoping to see them running on my hd2, but only to be turned down for they couldn't seem to get installed =/
my unit is HTC HD2 from US, originally a T-mobile and has these specifications:
OS version: 5.2.21892 (21892.5.0.89)
Manila version: 2.5.20121412.2
ROM version: 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE
ROM date: 04/28/10
Radio version: 2.10.50.26
Protocol version: 15.39.50.07U
this is a Leo having a flash size of 1024
i sincerely hope you'd help me diagnose the problems properly =/ Thank you sooo much for the help then masters.
and oh one more thing, having said my phone's specifications, is it ok to try flashing it using this thread and a few ROMS on it? i've been reading carefully these thereads

forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483

However, my only problem is, i really couldnt get to install the necessary apps like the .net framework and stuff =/

have you called t-mobile tech support to report the problem???

[Q] SOLVED: problem flashing rom on htc 7 pro (error 262)

Hi,
I have a htc pro 7 bought in the uk and was running mango running the latest 5.11 bootloader, and i wanted to go to the newtech rom.
I downloaded RUU_Gold7Pro_HTC_Europe_5.11.401.02_Radio_5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U_NT_Mango_8107_22L_by_ansar (1)
and
RUU_Gold_7Pro_Europe_5.10.401.03_SLSPL_by_ansar
from the links in the forum and they downloaded completely.
I first powered into bootloader with vol down and then used the ROMUpdateUtility to flash the RUU_Gold_7Pro_Europe_5.10.401.03_SLSPL_by_ansar file which seemed to flash fine, the progress bar completed and phone ended up in the bootloader again.
Then following the instructions i went to the other file but when i ran the update utility this time it found the phone and tried to update but never got past 0% before prompting me that it failed after a 10minish wait.
I was able to pull the battery and turn on back into bootloader mode but when i tried flashing the second file again, it failed. (Should I be reflashing the first again every time too?)
I wondered if the package was faulty and so downloaded 7713_GOLD_USA_CHT_CHS_JPN_KOR(www.dft.so) package of the dft release but the same thing, stalls at 0%.
I am left in bootloader (attached pic) and before trying to go back to stock mango using the zune update would like to know if there is a way to get to (ideally) the intrinsic rom.
Many thanks for your help,
Edit:
Adding that I am using windows 7, will try xp on my old PC as soon as zune software can download....
Also is there a way to get out bootloader mode? as restarting just goes back into the bootloader again...?
Edit 2
Solved!
Solved!
Ok Sorted it in the end, It was my fault, I missed a step.
If anyone else gets this problem (and the error 262 in romutility to go with it) and you are left in bootloader 1.7 its simple.
My first steps were right, first flash RUU_Gold_7Pro_Europe_5.10.401.03_SLSPL_by_ansar
and then you get the bootloader, and you then have the 1.7 bootloader problem, but are NOT yet ready for custom roms!
you must then flash RUU_Gold_HTC_Europe_1.22.401.01_Radio_5.63.09.13_3a_22.36.50.15U_by_ansar
(or similar) which will you give you a 1.22 radio.
From here you can then use the dft tool to get a rspl or hspl as needed, and from there you can then flash a custom rom.
I stupidly didn't realise and thought that the slspl replaced the downgrade, which it doesnt!
Glad I got that cleared up! Am now on the custom rom and all seems good!
Edit:
Exact same symptoms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318726
Bootloader:SPL - 1.7.2250.0
MID: PC921000
my current Windows Phone 7 Version: 7.0.7392.0
wont appear in zune, wont flash with custom rom, gives error 262.
