Hi
I have succeeded done the bigstorage using WWE_1.12.00 ROM. Thanks for the posters. However I noticed the Clear Vue for PDF is missing. Word and Excell exists. Where can I find this application?
Thanks
Word & Excel are part of the OS rom. ClearVue PDF & PPT where coming on the CD I got from TMO. So check your package pls, can be that it's on the ftp as well. Otherwise gimme a signal & it will be there ...
Regards, M
Thanks oltp,
Just check the cd, it only have activesync and outlook 2002.
I guess the ClearVue is also in the old ROM (1.11.00WWE) or in one of the extended ROM Cabs. . Do you have any idea which CAB or can I rip it from the old ROM if its there?
I use one of the available BigStorage ROM (1.12.00) to upgrade from the ftp
Thanks
You can try bal666 tool to rip it from an ext-rom, easier method is to use wince cab manager. You can take a look inside each cab file from your original ext-rom. You did save it, didn't you?
Sadly I don't know by hard which cab file to look for, somehow I keep forgetting these things. & i'm posting with my magician, so can't check on the PC at the moment. Will look for you as soon as I'm able to.
Cheers, M
Found it in CV2.41.386WWE.CAB in the original extended ROM.
oh my..
thanks!
Or install adobe for PocketPC instead.

ClearVue is free, or at least it came with my magician. Is Adobe 4PPC free to? & is it useful a pdf is hard to view on a PPC.
Regards, M
ClearVue is NOT free. If you don't get it together whith your device, you will have to pay for it.
The Adobe Readers for PPC are free! You can download them from Adobes home page. But the Adobe Reader for Pocket PC 2.0 needs at least round about 8MB, thats much more than ClearVue demands. But ist from Adobe, that means it can handle right all pdf documents, ClearVue fails sometimes if the documents are to complex.
Is it useful?
If you like to view pdfs on your PPC - Yes!
A pdf is hard to view on a PPC?
That depends on the document. The Adobe Reader for Pocket PC 2.0 offers a special reflow mode which is similar to the standard layout mode of the Pocket PC Internet Explorer. But reflow works only whith tagged documents. Untagged documents can be convertet to tagged ones when tranfering them via ActiveSync from Pc to PPC, but it depends on the document, whether the automatic generation of the additional tag table is usefull or failed at all. The best are documents which are createt as tagged ones by the writer. But so far only few writer remenber the people who like to read the files on a PPC...
Untagged documents are hard to view on a PPC also with the Adobe Reader you will have to scroll around a lot (except the are specially made for small displays).

joe
Joe,
thnx i'll think about it. 8MB is not a limitation on my SD, but then it will load slow...& I'm not reading that much pdf's.

Offtopic, but have you guys tried Repligo? If I MUST have a document that was originally PDF, I use Repligo to shrink it down. It loads quickly and perfectly on the PDA and isn't a memory hog like Adobe.
I think the viewer is free, the converter is not, but very useful.

Click to collapse
I have it installed on my SD and it's loading slow ... but not slower than the latest PC version! Yes, you will have to wait a few seconds, but when your PC loads it for the first time (after booting) you will have to wait for several seconds too!
Repligo?
If you like to convert everything...
I mean PDF is already a compact file format and I prefer to read documents as they are without the need to convert them before.

Hi,
I have searched a lot so far, but still did not find it.
Does anyone know an eBook reader that will read the book with voiceoutput? I would love to be able to drive and having the books read to me.
Thanks,
vma
I was looking into the same. There is a program out there (not free) which will do exactly what your after (can't remember the name, try Google). Only thing is I think you have to buy the books from them.
Best of luck. Paul
Yeah... I do remember a software that read's books, but it uses like compressed audio files, which you have to purchase.
I was looking for a software that would use speech syntesis and that would open plain text files.
I had a free speech syntesis program installed once and you could like copy & paste text into it's window and it would actually read the text. But tyy to do that with a whole book...
Still, I find it funny that no one did make such a program. Can it be that I am getting really weird???
Cheers,
vma
One program was called Fonix iSpeak for Pocket PC, but good luck finding it now.
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=586
Another program is called FLITE:
http://www.viksoe.dk/code/flite.htm
Arh ha. Flite was the program I was referring to. The Fonix ispeak sound even better! Does anyone know where to get it?
Hi,
It seems more dificult than what I assumed... I tried an evaluation version of Fonix (it is a discuntinued product, I guess) and it does not suit my needs: while it does indeed read a book in text format, it will neither show the text nor does it allow to stop reading and then resuming at another time.
So I had a new idea: why not look out for tools on the PC that would convert TXT to mp3?
I looked for it and there are actually tons of tools to do that.
However, from the 5-6 tools I tried, only one was able to actually produce a usable mp3 file out of a complete book.
The file is 100MB in size and the quality is not very good (the quality of the reader, not the compression).
I will to some further testings on that, but basically I believe that we are not yet there...
Cheers,
vma
Please keep us informed on the outcome. I too am interested.
Hey guys... and girls.. (hopefully we do have some here...)
I'm in search of a pdf reader/internet browser which is capable to recognize EMBEDDED PDF and either offers to download them or open it directly in browser.
To give you an insight of my motivation:
The pages of my university do not ask you to download the pdf files. It creates them JIT if you ask for e.g. your grades... and then opens the PDF Plugin in Browser to show them.. so you neither are asked to download the pdf.. nor is the end of the link .pdf
As a result my android phone (HTC Magic 32A with 2.1 Hero Rom Smoki 0.7.5) only shows a blank screen... unfortunately the *censured*Phone ( I think you know what kind of product I am talking about) has the capability to recognize and open the embedded PDF in browser.. so I always have to borrow one for short time, if I don't have a pc with me...
I hope, that somebody maybe knows a solution or can point me into the right direction or knows why it's not possible on Android...
Thx in advance..
Hi all
i'm searching for something to open opendocument files
i mean, the file made with openoffice and other ISO/IEC 26300:2006 compliant programs (i.e .odt, .ods and like)
[i cannot post link... btw wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument ]
i tried Thinkpad free (i got for free in my SGS) and also other apps i don't remember (even one i paid for it x.x ) but noone will open my odt files ;_;
the only solution i got is Offiviewer who don't "read" document files, but send them to a server who convert into pdf and send back... :\
do you know an app who can let me read my documents?
ty everyone for the help
Sorry for answering such an old answer, but maybe the thread's author is still following this...
A colleague and I were working hard on such an app. It's released on the Android Market for a while now, and it's called OpenOffice Document Reader.
Feel free to tell me what you think and suggest new features (yes, we're working on editting ).
I'm going to create a new thread for this app in a few minutes here on XDA...
Have a nice day
Tom
Hey there,
I hope I'm in the right section of the forum...
It's hard to describe my problem in English, I hope you understand.
I have an manual-CD* which is like an exe-file which run's a kinda special form of Adobe Reader (I think V4.0). This start's a menu.pdf where I can navigate through all the other chapters/pages, etc. It's kinda self-running book. No installation, just the autorun which starts adobe and loads the menu.pdf.
I already tried to copy all the pdf's with the direction tree on my phone, but it doesn't work. Not even one PDF can be opened by several PDF-App's. Only an office app opens the files, but it's blank. I can only see how many sheets it have.
Is it possible to get this running on an android-based device without PDF-Printing every document to a normal PDF (there are hundrets or more documents inside)?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Alex

If someone know it: It's the Mercedes W124 WIS-CD you could bought some years ago officially. Maybe someone has it too, and know what I mean.
