can anyone tell me if this is possible or if it has already been done.
edit: got my answer thanks to musicman247 over at ppcgeeks
Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it. Latency is too high. But, you may be in a better data service than I am, so:
Steps to use phone as internet connection for Xbox360 & Mac
First of all, this requires the use of a computer or laptop with an ethernet port.
1. Connect your phone to your computer with internet sharing
2. Open "Network Connections" on your phone
3. Click on your Phone's internet connection
4. Ctrl+Click on your Ethernet port
5. Right-click on either one you have selected
6. Choose "Bridge"
7. Connect your Xbox360 (or Mac) to your computer/laptop via an ethernet cable.
Viola! It works!...at least it did for me.

I've a software to control a locator GPS-GSM device and I need my HTC works like a modem. When I put my HTC into the USB must be recognized like a COM (start-control pannel- system-hardware-device administrator) to make a data call via this software. It musn't initiate the Active Sync software.
This software only works when a modem is connected. Before I connected my V3 Motorola Phone.
Any solutions?
Thanks
You can disable the ActiveSync on your PDA, just activate it, Menu -> connections, untick...
But for what reason would you wan't to use it as a modem? use it as a wired GPS device or connect to the Internet using it?
If the First, I'd recommend the Franson GPSGate, for the second use the ICS (internet sharing) App on your PDA...
I want my HTC Cruise was recognized like a modem when I connect it with the PC via USB.
Why?
Because I must download tracks from a GPS-GSM locator device installed into my car to recover my car if it were stolen, via software installed in the PC.
Before I connected my V3 Motorola Phone via USB to the PC, then it was recognized like a modem USB in COM4 for example. Then I set the communications setting from the software and I maked a data call from the software PC via V3 phone to the SIM installed into the car.
Now I need to connect my HTC instead of V3 and I expect it was recognized like a modem in certain COM.
Do you understand me?
Thanks
Yes this can be done.
1. Connect TC to PC like you would to sync. (you do need to make the active sync setting for allow wireless connection is checked)
2. go to progarms on the Pocket PC. There you find an app called Interent sharing.
3. Hit conect once you open the progarm.
4. Do what you need on the net.
I don't need sync the HTC with the PC and I donĀ“t need to connect to the net.
Let's imagine that we want to use the hyperterminal program in the PC, you must select a modem that it's installed in a certain COM with a desired speed, protocol, etc
Do you understand now?
Thank you.
I guess I'm seeing where this is headed...
Basicly you wan't the PDA to show up as a Dial-Up modem... I've done a bit of searching and with WM6, the dial-up modem function has been effectively replaced by the ICS, the main reason is, it was a b*tch to configure for internet access, and that is use of it in 99% of cases...
Unless the program you're using needs to actually see the modem I'd try to configure the ICS (add an extra connection) to connect to it... if it needs to see it as a modem, (and you want to keep the PDA), get a cheap phone that you can occasionally use as a modem for this task
Using the ICS will disable the activesync for that connection, but if you wan't to disable the activesync just follow the steps mentioned before...
I reckon bluetooth is the only way to go for this, need to dig out my BT dongle to check but I think it should allow you to use the phones dial-up service.
Maybe this?
Maybe you need this?

I would like to have my Fuze connected to my laptop via the usb cable for charging and activesync, but use my phones wifi for internet.
Problem is anytime I connect the USB cable it drops my phones wifi connection and starts using my laptops internet connection, which is a pain while listening to streaming music and disconnecting often to run an errand. Ideally would like to keep activesync going to allow using mymobiler.
Thanks for any help.

start -> settings -> usb to pc -> uncheck advanced network functionality
Next time search my friend.
Close thread please!
Mod edit : Shazad, Please respect other users and we will decide what and when to close, thank you.

I recalled that option on my Hermes, but it appears different on the TP. I don't have the "advanced network functionality option. Attached are the options I see under Start->Settings->Connections->USB to PC. Only get options for ActiveSync and Disk Drive modes. Disk Drive mode disables activesync and hence MyMobiler.
I did a pretty extensive search using the the forum search option as well as site specific google with terms/combo's like usb, activesync, wifi, enable, internet connection, sharing,... but didn't find anything related to allowing phone wifi use while connected to a PC which is connected to the internet.

I have a Topaz and I experiened a similar problem - Internet Connection Sharing comes on automatically everytime I plug a USB cable between it and my computer, but I didn't activate it - the mode was supposed to be "Disk Drive Mode" on settings\connections\USB to PC, but there was no option to disable it either.
I had just found the solution -
1. with USB cable disconnected, select "Ask me first" on the USB to PC setup, click OK.
2. Connect USB cable to PC. The 3 choices come up from a HTC setup screen:
o Activesync
o Disk Drive
* Internet Connection Sharing
o Don't ask me again
DONE
QUICKLY click "Disk Drive" radio button AND check "Don't ask me again" AND click Done below it BEFORE internet connection sharing comes up. It will now stay in disk drive mode.
See if it works?
This is the first time I have started a thread so bear with me guys:
I just finished getting my HTC Evo to tether up through my computer and linked it to my Xbox so I could play Xbox Live. I figured I'd write a tutorial on how to do it because it was such a pain to figure out.
First off this is for Windows 7 PCs only (and most likely Vista too)
Step 1: Installing PDAnet
-Install PDAnet for your device (I used my Evo, but it is available for several other platforms)
-Install it on your PC from junefabrics.com
-Tether your phone to your PC using the PDAnet application
Step 2: Configuring Connection
-Connect a standard lan cable from your xbox to your computer's lan port
-Open up the Network and Sharing Center under Control Panel and select "Change Adapter Settings" (left side of screen)
-Select "PDAnet Modem" and go to properties, then navigate to the sharing tab
-Check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" and select local area connection from the drop down box
-Click "OK"
-Your Xbox now has an internet connection via your PC and through your phone
***Disclaimer***
You may receive an error on your Xbox about MTU, this is related to packet size; it only happens on certain phones on certain carriers.
connecting to xbox with pda net for pc running xp
i am pulling my hair out over this.
i have been over and over these forums with no luck.maybe i am just a bit too green but the instruction i have found, allthough very close in parallel, just doesn't answer all of my questions. if someone could point me to the proper thread or even just give me the correct step by step i would greatly appreciate it.
i have an evo4g rooted on the 2.3.3 gingerbread running pda net to tether via usb to my p.c with windows xp. when i go to configure the network protocols to connect to my x box 360 i get lost. my right click drop downs are different from all the tutorial i have found. most are windows 7, or some sort of laptop. i do not see the allow internet sharing box so im stuck in a stand still.
this is very frustrating to me. i hate having to read through countless threads of peoples responses that just don't answer the actual question proposed. i know the evo is capable of running the 360 for my needs, i am not trying to play online , i don't care if anyone thinks it will be too slow, im not worried about my connection cap( as i have downloaded probably over 50 movies via bit torrent using pdanet). i just need a little help. hopefully without being berated for being a "noob".
again if anyone could help?
I was wondering if it is possible to WiFi tether with the GN10.1?
I tried connecting the tablet to my PC via USB, but the tether option did not show up in the settings like it does with my HTC Amaze.
It is for me...
I have wifi tethered my table to my phone and my PC. You need the right software or know how to use netsh to make your PC a wifi hotspot.
Are you trying to use the WiFi on your tablet to give your PC Internet access? Presumably meaning your PC does not have a WiFi adapter of its own.
You probably need to look for an app for that. And/or a driver for your PC so that it can recognize the tablet, when connected by USB, as a USB network adapter.

Hello guys
I just wanted a help
My PC doesn't have WiFi
But I wanted to use Shareit on it.
So I was planning to use my another phone WiFi as a WiFi dongal to my PC
Is there any way to do so?
Thanks in Anticipation
I'm not sure you can do that, but if you could, it would probably involve USB tethering which should get the job done. Just do a search for "tutorial USB tethering" or something similar and you'll get loads of guides.
It just tethers your data from your phone to your computer through the USB cable which is more dependable and consistent in my experience. Depending on your phone and carrier, you may be able to just turn it on in your settings with the appropriate drivers on the computer. My phone doesn't have it by default so I use FoxFi which has support for WiFi (which you don't have), Bluetooth and USB tethering.
