ok essentially i have had a wing, windows mobile touchscreen phone since it came out found xda developers and became a what my husband calls an xda ppc geek i rom i cook i can sit on this site all day long.........
im starting to break down...i think i want a blackberry..whats wrong with me idk but essentially im bord with my wing i have done EVERYTHING i could possibly do with it i practically reset and change it everyday...what do i do someone give me some advice as ive come to love and respect everyone on here...

I'm going to be getting a work mobile in a few weeks on the O2 network in the UK. I was thinking of a blackberry but then saw the XDA's (HTC). I don't really need a PDA but its a works phone and having excel would make my job a lot easier as I don't have a laptop but need some access to excel in the warehouse, as well as outlook and messenger when I'm out on site.
Now the 2 that's I'm looking at are the XDA Stellar (http://www.my-xda.com/devices/xda_stellar.jsp) and Orbit 2 (http://www.my-xda.com/devices/xda_orbit2.jsp). The problem is that they are just re-branded on the O2 network and I cant figure out which are the related HTC phones. So could someone tell me which are which so i can do some more research.
I have been reading review and seems the Stellar is a better PDA/phone as its got the slide out KB. But typical O2, i cant really tell what are the differences as one pages says one thing and the other something else.
Does the stellar have a touch screen like the orbit, with the same funtionality?
Both do Wifi and GPS?
can i get tomtom software for the XDA?
whats the battery life like on both phones? (I have heard horror stories when using 3G or WiFi with a sub 4 hour battery life)
Can u 'image' the OS and stuff like u can on a PC to back up everything? (i ask because I do like to have a play and its nice to know u can get it back to factory settings again)
any helpful links u peeps might have to gimmi a help deciding? reviews, guides ect ?
Sorry for all the questions. I really like the look of them but have never had a chance to use one so I thought i would be best to ask soem people who know the in's and out's.

no help but i sorted it out anyway. Stellar/TyTn II is the plan.
I have tried and tried so many times to upgrade with things from this site, i have had no luck what so ever, i have not given up i love a challenge. I go to get the rom and i use xp doesnt seem to like vista to much, it finds the phone and then i hit next and then it goes to flash the phone and it looses the connection or something and it says not able to find phone blah blah, i would love to have 6.1 or 6.5 or i hear 6.5 is amazing, is there anyone here that can give me the exact link and or file, and directions on how to flash 6.1 or 6.5 i am about to loose my mind and would love some help, my motorola q died of bad death 5 feet into a pool, and i miss my windows so if you can help me and not confuse me contact me at [email protected] it would be much helpful and make me very happy.
EVERYBODY NEW: Please read the stickies. Your answers are there. Really. Read them. You'll see! Look especially hard at the How to flash a new ROM to your wizard sticky. Read a LOT before you ever start flashing, or you'll have an expensive brick instead of a cool phone. Don't be the guy who screams "PLEASE HELP" because he flashed first, and read second.

Use XP, use Activesync 4.5. Do NOT use Vista under any circumstances.
Make DAMN sure you've unlocked your phone's CID. There are different procedures for different models of Wizard. Do the wrong one, you will destroy your phone.
Use Mun's RUU if the cook's RUU doesn't work with your phone.
Only the Oldest WM6 ROMs will include IPL/SPL, which may kill your phone if it's a G4. Newer ROMs are almost always safe. Cook will tell you in the ROM's description.
Your Wizard is not any more waterproof than your Q was. Keep it away from the pool.
Read, search, learn.

I am new here, and this is my first post to this forum, but I am pretty sure that it won't be last.
First I would like to thanks everyone in this forum, specially those who are keep thigs going on, so big thanks.
This forum is giving a lot of information, what is impossible to find anywhere else.
So let's move to my question.
I have Xperia X1, and I also noticed, that it won't get official update to Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM, which is really, really bad.
There is a lot unofficial Cooked 6.5 ROMs here in XDA-Developers-forum, and most of them is looking really good and interesting choice to my X1.
So, how I can be sure, that Cooked ROMs aren't include anything bad, I mean virus, spyware, malware or something like that?

you can never be sure anything you find on the Internet don't include such things
but virus, spy/malware don't port stuff made for pc's don't work on pocketpc's
and the market for windows mobile is too tiny for them to bother making it
there are but a hand full of such things made to run on pda and those are more proof of concept then really harmful
you could ask yourself why would the cookers who are private people like you can me
add things from that handful to the roms they make ?

I know, that PC-viruses doesn't work on Windows Mobile platform, but there is still "programs" that will do something what I don't wanna risky to my phone.
Do you know, that is there some kind of Antivirus-program wich I can scan my phone after it is flashed with cooked ROM?
I know that there are AV-programs to WM6.1-platform.

Hi there,
As my friend above says, there is no threat from spyware, virus etc on PPC, the only one that i ever came across years ago actually asked you if you wanted to install it, obviosuly the reply was "no thanks". I seriosuly would not worry about it, there are many AV programms for our devices which are a total waste of your money.
All of the chefs on xda are cooking for the masses, if you read the threads you would obviously see someone reporting such a thing. In my years here i have never seen such an incident happen.
Go ahead, read and flash to your hearts content. Always ensure when you can, that you have an official rom downloaded and ready should you have a bad flash or a bad experience

After thinking this for about 60 times i made up my mind and decided to go for it.i'm asking anyone who could help.i had 2 windows mobile devices which i had worked my brains off to buy but the crudeness of life left me with both STOLEN.so...i'm asking anybody that has a windows mobile device and is not using it,keeping it in their closet,in their drawer and the dust is just putting on the device i'm asking you if you could donate it to me.maybe this is really stupid but i really love windows mobile.Thank you for reading this...and thank you for understanding me.please do reply.
I just got an HTC HD 2 today from a friend, and it already has a version of android on it. I dont know how to replace the android files without messing up the phone. Can someone help or walk me through this?

sry i dont know anything about the hd2 and yes sir you are correct i just saw them in dallas for the neverender tour 4 hours of nothing but coheed it was amazing my 3rd show i may add new orleans, little rock, and dallas!

If your friend was so generous to give you that nice piece of hardware I´m sure he can guide you to replace the Android OS with that Microsoft crap. Your friend has invested some time and energy in the modification of his phone so he would be interested in having you enjoying it, too, wouldn´t he?
To be able to help it would be useful to know if android rom is nand (ie has replaced the original wm6.5 os) or is running from sd card.
When you boot up the phone, does magldr load?
I would suggest you do go over to the hd2 forum and look at the sticky threads, tey have all the info you will need to change/update android to something newer or even change os completely to say wp7?
If your droid is nand, it is very simple to update, just head over to the HD2 nand forum

Thank you everybody for being kind and not throwing noob slanders at me. The friend who gave me the phone actually bought it off of someone who put android on it haha so this nice phone is a hand-me-down for sure.
