IS there a program which you can click on the today screen a picture of a contact and it will call them.
There is a commercial app somewhere, and there's the today plugins from the 700w that I haven't seen yet, but I generally use cLaunch with my VJPhoneTools. It doesn't take the photo from the contact database (yet), you have to make the icon yourself.

I am not a developer, but is there any way to get the GREAT SMS unread count widget to work with Whatsapp?
