anyone got streaming media working on o2 uk? - Touch Cruise General

hi folks,
been searching for a few days on xda and google re the above, as i keep getting connection failure.
there doesn't seem to be a difinative answer. some have got it working, some havn't.
if anyone has got this via hsdpa i would be grateful if they could advise settings
cheers
chris
ps i have got increased data speed enabled by the network
one of the main queries ive got is simple, if other apps connect (tcpmp+flash, youtubeplay) cant see any reason why this does not???

this has always been a problem for me too, even using wi-fi...can never connect to youtube for example....anybody?

I think this is to do with O2 doing Network Address Translation web access over HSDPA / 3G / GPRS and i don't know how to get past this. Youtube needs to push data to your handset via UDP so fails. Mine works out the box on WIFI tho. Is UPNP is enabled on you router?
I've had no joy getting this to work, perhaps someone from O2 can comment?

I had also been trying for ages to get it to work (over HSDPA/3G) but never managed.
youtube mobile works over Wifi, I found.
I found this thread extremely helpful in clearing up some of my queries and explains why somethings work and others don't.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313961
What I did in the end was buy CorePlayer. Works perfectly over HSDPA or 3G with youtube. I'm still having major problems with other types of streaming media though.
If you don't want to buy CorePlayer, try TCPMP and the FlashVideoBundle trick. I found this nowhere near as reliable as coreplayer though.
Sorry I can't be any more help re Streaming Media player, but as I say, I just gave up in the end.

Hi,
I'm running the Diamond 6.1 ROM (can't remember it's official title, but the file name is udK_Diamond-R3_Polaris_WWE.zip
I can run youtube videos fine with this ROM. At the moment i'm connected on wifi, the hsdpa connection round here is patchy, so i can't test that, although i'm pretty sure i've run streaming video over hsdpa on this ROM

Are you certain that the device is using mobile.o2.co.uk as it apn for the data connection to o2. Sometimes the devices also have wap settings (through proxy) and this can be the default connection choice. If you check connection settings and delete any wap profiles (not needed) just to be certain.
sorry if this is stating the obvious or insulting your intelligence, it is not meant to. It is just that it has not been mentioned in you post.

WiFi internet issue on WM6

I`ve got a T-Mobile MDA with WM6 and I cannot access the internet through WiFi. The access point that I connect to is working cause I am able to access the net fine on my laptop. I made sure that my network cards are set to connecte to the internet. I even did a softreset after I made the changes.
My internet explorer just sits there on locating. I am not sure if its just my WiFi card configured incorrectly within WM6 or if its a reg setting that isn't set right.
If anyone had this issue before and got it fixed let me know or give me some direction to start.. thanks in advance for your help.
This is a fairly common problem. For me disabling the Wireless G option in the registry did the trick:
Registry: HKLM\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Key: dot11SupportedRateMaskG
Value: 1
so I diabled it, soft restet, verified that the reg change sticked, which it did. I tried to access the net again with no go.
me too
I have the exact same problem.
Not much discussion about this
I tried the G fix. Didn't work. Funny thing. It started when I installed MB. Downgrading DIDN'T fix it.
Try setting the the Network Card to connect to "The Internet" instead of "Work"
they are set to that..
That actually worked for me. (The Internet instead of work fix) I also made sure that all the boxes for "Server assigned IP address were checked. I could have sworn I tried that already. I wonder if it will stay "fixed". I'm due for a soft reset...seems to be working. I've been thinking all along it was some stupid setting.

check the change your dns to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 this may fix your problem

Changing to Internet and setting the DNS doesn't seem to help. Funny thing is, GMail via Midlet Manager seems to work (maybe its doing GPRS?). But IE just spins at Locating...
wifi internet issue on wm6
although i have the older version of t-mobiles' mda (wm5), i had similar issues connecting to the net even it sees a lot of wireless aps. either i cannot hold a steady connection or cannot connect at all. the solution i had was changing the channel on my wireless ap and updating my mda's parameters for my local wireless security. now i can go to the web using my mda even with poor signal quality. It is possible that you have several wireless ap's at your location sharing the same channel. hopefully changing the channel solves your problem.
simple possible solution, but check the proxy settings? I know with cingular, many people had trouble browsing the internet due to the MediaNet proxy settings. they removed the proxy settings and everything was fine then.
There is a known issue with your rom your running...there has been a new release. check the MB thread and you will see a recent listing about a 6 and 4 mb page pool, the wifi has been fixed.

I have the original MB edition and I do not have any wireless problems. I know he had to fix the re-released versions as the wifi did not work with them initially, but I was unaware of a wifi problem with the initial release.
WIFI problem don't even see networks
Hey everybody, still loving this phone and its diversity, but have flashed this little piece of hardware with the mb 4mb/6mb wm6 rom only to find that WIFI can't even be turned on!. And yes I've downed the fixed versions from a certain forum. When I turn on WIFI, It just gives the symbol in the top straight away. It just can't find the networks. I even manually added a network, it then tries to find it, but simply can't. WEIRD hey.
Is there a solution for this problem, cause I really, like the look and feel of the wm6 roms over the wm5 roms.
bye all and thanks in advance for the kind replies.
Did you try using WiFiFoFum at all to see if it can find networks? I have not had any issues with WiFi with the Most Beautiful edition whatsoever. Only thing I notice is that when the machine first turns on or right after a soft reset that I need to click the comm manager icon for wifi twice before wifi will turn on. Otherwise it finds and connects to networks perfect.
Problem with MIE
i have no problem to connect to my homenetwork with WIFI, but i cannot access the internet with the internet explorer. but it works perfect with the opera browser!
hmmm..
It's weird...
I never access the internet with the internet explorer even my wifi was connected successfully while I brushed wm6 rom.
A miracle has happened Today.
I install a WIFI Device for WM5, that one is simple Chinese language.
I tried to turn on the wifi but not work.
Then I uninstall it -> restar....
Then I tried one more time to turn on wifi, ok, it's work to connect but still can't open the web page.
I check the wireless lan, switch the power save mode to best performance.
Then....I can open web page????
Wow~~ I don't know it work cause the wifi device change something or just swtich to best performance.
Maybe you guys can try.
(Sorry to reading my poor English)

I use CorePlayer+a specific cab file to get youtube on my TC from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339269&highlight=tcmp
Don't know if that helps?
no go, even in opera...
it just says failed to connect everytime i try... same in ie.
dont really want to go and install new .cab files with whatever in them to get streaming to work, there must be a way to adjust settings to have it work like everyone else.
can anyone tell me what the port settings should be?
I have exacty the same problem as you!
My rom is in French....
I don't know if it helps but you are not alone....
Hello
I am also experiencing the same problem. I open a website in the Explorer which in turn opens the Streaming Video applicaton which after a short time indicates that it could not connect to the network.
If any one could help with this I would be very happy.
I have the English ROM and have Vodafone (business) as provider.
Cheers
Michael
I have the same problem, but only if I choose a WLAN connection. With 3G it works fine. Maybe anyone can tell me his settings for WLAN streaming with PocketIE.
Thanks in advance.
Lars
I've been having similar problems since last Wednesday, when my Orbit2 artrived from O2.
I've been tinkering and getting very frustrated but have found out some useful info (for orbit 2 users anyway...):
Streaming works with built-in apps in Wifi just fine with these settings:
in start>settings>wifi(configure network adapters)>network adapters tab: on the pulldown menu, "set my network card connects to" = Work
In Streaming media app menu>options> "connect via" = Work
the links from both opera 8.65 and IE work fine and open the streaming media app, which connects, then buffers, then plays just fine.
I still can't get streaming over GPRS, 3G, or HSDPA. I upgraded my O2 contract, so they didn't send me a new sim. It took me and O2 customer support 3 days to work out I needed a 3G sim card. I got one for free from my local O2 store.
I still had problems so called O2 CS again. Now comes the real joke. Apparently O2 does not support video streaming on 3G or HSDPA. When you try and stream video, O2 CS reckons that the network reverts to GPRS speeds, but maintains the 3G or H-connected symbol. Since GPRS speed is insufficient for streaming, it returns the dreaded "failed to connect" error in the streaming video app.
I've tested the speed of the 3G and HSDPA connections and get 121-124 Kbps on normal browsing/downloading but I can't work out how to test the speed as it tries to stream so can't confirm that it has reverted to GPRS...
I used this to test speed: www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1 (selecting the 5K test then the 1 Mb test)
I get a speed of 386kbps using USB-PC, but haven't tested WiFi.
386kbps and even 121kbps should be fine for streaming 3gp video, shouldn't it?
Has anyone else heard this about O2 and video streaming reverting to GPRS, or was the O2 CS guy just talking crap?
I've tried installing an old TCPMP and the flash video bundle, but it crashes my phone when TCPMP loads. I can't find a trial copy of CorePlayer 1.1.3 and don't want to pay for it without knowing that its going to work...
SO... if anyone can confirm or deny video streaming using any software on O2 Orbit, I'd be very grateful.
Finally, I also "fail to connect" when I use the USB-PC cable to try streaming using my PC's internet connection I've tinkered with as many settings as I could think of and still can't get it to stream video on anything except WiFi. This makes me suspect some sort of port settings because the speed of USB-PC is fine, but I'm not sure about setting ports.
I'm going to call O2 CS today and shout at them again. I've been with O2 for years now and remember having to alter and delete various parts of O2's "mobile web" settings and "O2 active" settings to get things to work smoothly on my HTC wizard/XDA mini S so maybe this is the solution... I'll post an update on the situation here.
wlan streaming problem
hi..
i have the problem that the phone tries to go to 3g every time i try to stream media..

YouTube Player not working

This is probably something simple, but it is driving me mad. The internt browsers (opera and IE), work. Google maps, works. Syncing emails, works. Weather updates, works. Youtube player, never finds anything. In the top rated menus, it just says no videos and when I do a search, it just sticks on searching, never does anything.
Can anyone help?
I use Vodafone here in NL and Youtube worked fine in Opera but the Youtube app didn't play the videos.
I found out that Vodafone here in NL, by default, uses a proxy setting in it's sim cards. I removed the proxy and the Youtube app works great now.
The proxy also prevented MSN Messenger from working on my Touch Pro.
Maybe your telco does something similair?

Hmm strange thing i can download the headers but when i want to stream (play) the video it doesn't work then on 3G network. It only works when i'm connected to WiFi.
check the t&c's of your contract.
Many networks do not allow streaming of video over their network.
Many do not allow messenger.
many have a proxy that screws things up.
if when the proxy is turned off, it works over wi-fi but not over GPRS or 3G it means that your network is blocking that function over the network.
you may have to upgrade your data bundle, or just live with it, but check your contract terms.
I have removed the proxy, I will have to check with T-Mobile. Thanks guys

I have the same issue but you just disabled the proxy at Settings/Connections/Connections? Is it really that easy
@ lostprophet.
as you're with T-Mobile UK, remove the adult filter from your account as well. that's what i had to do on mine.

Ah of course! I forgot about that. I keep meaning to do it but I don't have a credit card so I have to go to the shop and show my drivers license, but I haven't had my first bill yet so I have no accout details.
I guess I'll have to wait till the end of the month, thanks for the input
EDIT: Worked Out how to remove the lock, still no videos and nothign in the T&C's about video streaming. Looks like I will have to give them a call
Recently the proxy has been blocking push mail for me aswell, not just with my Raph but with the Hermes aswell.....i assume theyve messed with the port blocking and etc..
Right, proxy is off, content block is off, still no luck. mrvanx or rhedgehog, your both on t-mobile uk, I assume it works for you?
Fraid so.
on the £12.50 wnw+ which does allow streaming. the £7.50 wnw standard does not.
check the content lock though. it took about 24 hours before it was removed on my account. even though the my t-mobile web site said it had been taken off, it still was hanging around in the background for a few hours....
Dunno about them messing with the port blocking, haven't used a proxy in years so can't comment on if it's changed or not!
How did you get the 12.50 package? I saw no mention of it on thier website, or in the T&C's. Is there a higher limit on the data cap?
You can always ring them to upgrade to the web'n'walk plus plan. I take it it works with a wi-fi connection. If not then try soft resetting.
yup.
there's 3, or at least there was when i signed up for it last february.
£7.50, 1GB, no streaming, IM or VOIP.
£12.50, 3GB, Streaming, IM, no VOIP (Although i have trouble getting IM to work)
£25, 5 GB, do what you wish (ooh. Neverending story reference, man i'm a saddo!)
i think they still do them.
Edit: IM seems to be working today!
Vodafone user just have to disable their proxy and then everything works/streams just fine. Just disabled it on my Raph now i can watch my YoopToob on 3G again.
Thanks bozotheclown for the tip
YouTube with EDGE in the US..?
How do you guys think the touch pro will handle the YouTube streaming on an EDGE connection in the USA..? Does it degrade the quality to spped up performance like the iPhone..?
it's only really got the two quality settings.
High quality, and fast download.
I guess on edge it would buffer for quite a while on the high quality. I know where i am in the UK, i either get GPRS (No EDGE on t-mobile UK) or HSDPA, and on GPRS it really stutters. but i guess on edge, which should be at least twice the speed, it may be bearable.
the fast download is just horrible to watch, and i wouldn't recommend it! I'd wait until either the NA version comes out so you can get 3g/HSDPA, or until someone here figures out if it is possible to activate that american bands on all devices.
Gotcha, another Q... I have the pro in the US under at&t. I un-checked the proxy and I can now surf the web and also use the youtube app which by the way still streams fine under edge but the quality is not as good (like the iphone) but I can not send any MMS messages. I keep getting this forbidden error after it makes an attempt. I just xchanged my plan over today from the iphone so maybe I should wait till tomorrow to see if that changes anything on at&t's end. I did confirm the mms settings are correct in the MMS server settings and still nothing. I also noticed that many phones like the tilt require a proxy, not sure about the tytn II. but there were some setting with a proxy CAB file that wwere not set up on the pro... Do you think this is required..? I would think not as I was able to send MMS messages just fine on my 9502 imate when I had it.
Hi. I had problems with YouTube also (it was showing "No Videos" all the time), and solved them simply deleting all contents from YouTube folder (mine was on Internal Storage - I own a Diamond). Hope it helps.

Opera/PIE crashing when opening web Gmail, But running fine when connected over WiFi

So, I recieved my Touch Pro from Expansys this morning, and using it today with T-Mobile I've noticed a rather strange phenomenon. Whilst connected to the interenet over T-Mobile's network, both Opera and PIE crash when trying to open the Gmail page. However, if I turn off the phone, and just connect over my WiFi, it loads fine. As soon as I switch back and try to navigate through my messages, Opera crashes. I'm going to do some more investigating, but I just wanted to get this out there and hear everyone's thoughts. I did install Google Gears before noticing this, and thinking that that might be causing the problem, uninstalled it, but it has made no difference.
For reference, the ROM etc details are:
R 1.02.25.19
G 52.33.25.17U
D 1.90.00.00
Anyone else experienced this?
(I've also posted this at MoDaCo - http://tinyurl.com/4w52dh)
I have now found the resolution to this problem, which I am assuming only applies on T-Mobile's network. It seems that the proxy for T-Mobile was blocking secure connections (i.e. to sign in to Google), so to get around this, you need to go into connection settings, and then view the proxy settings, and disable the proxy for the connection 'T-Mobile Internet'. I'm sure this will be obvious to some, but just wanted to close this post in case anyone else comes across this.
If anyone has any info on why this was happening I would very interested to know the cause, particularly as I have just switched from a Kaiser where the connection settings were identical.
Good work for posting this up. If I stick on T-mobile it will be useful
thanks was having the same problem earlier today...was thinking t-mobile capped me or something.
cheers

Skyfire Problems

Hi, i got a massive problem with the new skyfire version for winmob.
Everytime I start this fu...ng browser it uses the GPRS connection without any questions!!
one of my first steps was to disable the date connection on my HTC HD2, even with bsb tweaks, but nothing helps in this case. the other bad news is that this bull**** of app has got only one configuration possibility -> delete cookies, nothing else..not even a default connection type etc.
has someone tried this this browser or got some solution for my problem?
thanks
Uses GPRS connection before asking? What are you wanting it to do?
Mine works fine if I have 3G it uses that if not GPRS if WiFi is connected it uses that. I don't see a problem.
Or are you after an Opera Mini like experience where you get asked before it connects to the internet? For me this seems utterly pointless seen as the ONLY reason I can think of for you to open a browser is to go to the internet?
Am I missing something?
If Skyfire can sort out their scroll lag it would be hands down the best winmo browser on the market in my opinion.
try this.
- uninstall skyfire
- turn off gprs or set connection to my ISP
- turn on WIFI
- install and launch skyfire
Very good player, no question but I just payed 15€ without knowin´about this for being connected by GPRS :-(
my problem is that I got Wifi but it still connects to GPRS without any permission.
And yes the scroll lag is pretty bad, but also the zoom opertion with this smal window.but it´s the first version. waiting for update
just as a thought...
When I'm using WiFi I run through the following in order to be sure that it will use WiFi not mobile web.
1. Go to settings > Wireless settings and turn on WiFi
2. Wait for the WiFi to be fully connected (important!)
3. Turn off the data connection
4. Start whatever app you intended to use
I've even had opera trying to use mobile web when I've got WiFi on so this is how I ensure it.doesn't end up using it. Hopefully this will work for you and skyfire too.
cheers,
prime.
