Why are some roms missing, voice dialing? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

so ive been using death rom V2. now im test out others right now i have garmin DK 1.2 on my phone and i noticed it doesn't have my fav feature. on my head set i press a button and say call house. and it calls, no prerecording or training. can i add that feture to any rom? what is name of program i need. or if possible link plz.
thank u

It's Microsoft voice command V1.6.19209 what u are searching for

You can also post your question in the Garmin Rom thread. It may be a Rom issue.

its just not M$ voice command its also Cybertron Voice Dialer that comes with shipped roms depending on which provider releases the rom. Most cooks leave M$VC out of roms because its software you have to pay for and some MOD's do not like when you put it in a rom since its illegal technically but CVC is provided for free so it can be left in the roms.... To those that posted above me please check your facts before posting false info
PS- You can not provide a link to the software since that would be considered WAREZ on this forum... This is a very grey line since some cooks seem to have special rights around here and leave M$VC in the roms they cook and mods say nothing

Was not posting "false info", more like incomplete info..
But thx for adding

There are MSVC, Cyberon VC and Cyberon Voice dial. Among Cyberon VC, there are multiple languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin .... etc)
Therefore, it's a personal preference what the chief would put in (or simply don't put in). I personally dislike MSVC because it's a resource hog and not as good as Cyberon VC for non-native English user.

Austinsync- I respect that you are a valuable member of the forum. As usual, you gave an excellent response to the OP. I do wonder what facts need to be checked. As AcidCool said, his reply was incomplete but not incorrect. Were you referring to my post? In which case, where did I go wrong?
OP- I checked the Rom threads and it looks like the Death Rom has an icon for MS Voice Command but I am not 100% sure. The HTC Voice Dialer was taken out of the Garmin Rom. Since we don't know what it was that you liked in the Death Rom we are at a loss to try and help you find it. Maybe you can give us some more specific information. As far as I know, the HTC Voice Dialer is not warez. I am sure Austinsync will correct me if I have gone astray.

MSVC is not included in all roms because it has not been released on an "official" rom yet. The new AT&T test roms have it included, and since there are several roms using that build they also have it included. Hopefully soon it will be included in a shipped rom, and then it will be available for download as a cab, and much easier to find.

hello there!
i am new (4months) to this forum and i have some questions.
i red the wiki. but still some things are very unclear.
but my biggest problem si that i can't figure out how many versions of WM6 are there. all i count is:
1. Midget_1990 v.1.0
2. Universal WM6 Pro ROM
3. Jwrightmcps ROM update 2.02.02
4. Jwrightmcps ROM Update 2.02.00 WEE
5. WM6 CHT/.../DUT with Radio 1.15.00 from Darkforce
are there any others ???
i appriciate all the users that took part of those releases, i realy do appriciate their work, but i think this forum is a little bit unorganised.
wouldn't it be better to name all the WM6 versions in the same way like:
1. [WM6] [Midget_1990] [1.0]
2. [WM6] [Jwrightmcps] [2.02.02]
3. [WM6] [Jwrightmcps] [2.02.00]
etc.....
or something like this, somename that includes the version, the build number, the os number, and put them sepparatly on the top of the forum (sticky).
and i would suggest to keep modifying the first reply from the topic. the one that includes the description of the version and to add all the things that are discovered by users.
sometimes it takes 20 pages to get and to read a reply that says something that really matters to you. the rest is just "thank you" replies.
for example, if you want to use an certain program you might spend a few days reading the topic and find out that you shouldn't have upgraded your device because u cannot run the program.
i personally don't understand what is "Universal WM6 Professional ROM".
from the name of the thread, it is not verry relevant who build it.
and also why is this one "professional"? i would call "professional" the WM6 release from an official source like HTC.
i don't want to offend anyone with this topic.
i just struggle to understand for 2 weeks what is going on with al these versions.
and i hopped that at some point, someone will make a conclusion about evry WM6 version, something like:
"version no.1 crashes evry 20min, etc...
version no.2 doesn't have videocall, msn chat, office, etc...
version no.3 is the best of all but still hasn't got a videocall function. this can be fixed with the cab provided in the topic (link), etc..."
again, i hope noone is offended by my post.
i trully appriciate all your work, but i just think that it needs to be just a little bit organised. all that hard work and sleepless nights of the authors, need to be a little more easy to read.
thanks in advanced for your time and your understanding!

wm6 professional ala wm5 pocket pc
wm6 standard ala wm5 smartphone
this is the new naming convention used by M$
there is PDAVIET rom, helmis rom leo's rom and probably rom released by couple of other people
i guess the reason why you see different nomenclature used for the rom is because all rom makers usually work independently.(though i really like your idea)
as for some app being incompatible with one given rom... well i guess i have seen some people claiming that a particular rom broke an application while some one else will say that it works...and frankly speaking the rom makers can not update their bug log just because one guy claims so...

The link is concering the discussion on the what you called professional rom, the do or don't release of HTC wm6 build for the Universal and the hesitating behaviour of many rebranders.
it`ll get easier
The forum is diverse, this is a good thing, just a little confusing at first.
Also, as i understand it, english isn`t always the first language of all it`s members.(but all who post, post in english, for which i am profoundly grateful )

My friend, you miss the whole concept of this thread. If I cooked my own ROM that would only help ME. If I released it to the public there would be many people who wanted to change this or change that. When an update came out I couldn't remove my old version, but would need to recook the whole ROM again with the updates. Granted, for those people who prefer to use a cooked ROM because it "saves them time" when reflashing, then by all means please continue to use a fully cooked ROM. However, I don't see the need to reflash my ROM every two weeks. I would much prefer to have the ability to simply add/remove a program to update it then cook a ROM.
In addition, this thread should prove useful to aspiring cooks becuase I hope to compile the information that would be necessary to take a lite/stock ROM and add to it the bits and pieces that each individual cook might find useful to suit his/her tastes.
So please, if you don't like the concept go lurk elsewhere. This thread is meant for people who support this idea, not nay sayers. If no one supports this idea, then i may have an empty thread, but I am not about to have a debate as to the merits of my idea.
so just install what you want on your lite rom. Everything is out there including Office and the camera stuff. If you really wanted to get crazy you could put it all in your UC

I realize it is all "out there" The purpose of this thread is to help compile it in one place and assist those who prefer to do it this way instead of using a cooked ROM. There are hundreds of threads devoted to "which is the best cooked ROM" and dozens upon dozens of them devoted to "how do I get APP A to work on this cooked rom, or APP B on other cooked ROM."
I believe the people who don't want to use these cooked ROMs should have a place to gather all their info, and hope this to be the place.
And with that being said, I don't plan to respond to any additional critiques of the concept. If you don't want to be a part of the solution then have fun elsewhere.
thanks.

omg you have no idea......i just went through hell finding cab files and getting them to work on the weekend. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!
i found a cool way of getting some cab files though.......older devices with less storage or with extended roms like the blue angel, the cooks usually provide cab files with their roms.
The worst part was getting the HTC apps to work, esp the multimedia apps.......a lot of the cab files, they just provide the executable and few stuff and the graphic files, but not the codecs that it needs to work. what i did was dump the at&t 6.1 rom and grabbed a bunch of codecs, somewhat works now, i'm missing some reg entries........i'm somewhat waaaaay over my head, but its fun learning this **** as i go along.
oh and i hate the fact that all these htc apps dump their graphic files in the windows directory, takes me forever to open that directory. i did find one or two versions of apps that didnt need them in the windows directory.
I like where this is going and want to see more. I am one of those people.
I like the dutty series. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383638

The lite of this is the one I am using now.
For example. In the first link I do not want the HTC home, FM Radio etc. But this rom is FAST.
I really like the Hybrid I am using but I have the lite and really liked the MS Voice in from the full versions. I would like to take the games out add ms office and a few progies I use.

I use the 1.64.08.21 radio version.
Two registry edits for touchscreen adjustments I find useful:
-Adjusting touch screen sensitivity (from GWENI)
-Adjusting the backlight level when device is locked
For both of these you will need a program to edit your device's registry, such as Mobile Reg Editor or PHM Reg Editor.
Adjusting Touch Screen Sensitivity
-open reg editor
-browse to to HKey_Local_Machine\Drivers\TouchPanel
-change key "PressureThreshold" to "5000".
5000 is recommended, but you can play with the value until you find one you prefer.
Adjust Backlight level while device is locked
-open reg editor
-browse to HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
-change key "LockLevel" from "0" to any number between 1-10.
For this one I have mine set at 5. 10 is the brightest. Adjust to your personal preference.

Thanks for the vote of encouragement.
I would assume that you meant the lite ROM from Dutty's latest? I am a fan of the Dutty ROMs and have not yet tried out the latest "lite" version. I couldn't find out on the main page what exactly was IN the "lite" version. Can you post that info here, or a direct link?
So we have our first contender (awaiting more info) as Dutty's latest "lite" build.
Remember to all posters the idea here is to start with a good basic ROM that will allow us to customize ourselves (without being locked down to cooked in apps). Using something like Dutty's could be a good idea as his lite version should have many of his good tweaks built in. I would just like to get some more specific info as to what is in his lite ROM, as well as a few more nominations before we get the ball rolling.
Chances are what we come up with in this thread can be used with many of the ROMs out there, so we don't all have to agree on one. In fact, if we can nominate the top two or three lite/stock ROMs out there for people to experiment with that would be great.
Also, please remember to always check back on the first page for any updates.

Great, fantastic marmOlade, this is exactly the type of things I want to see in terms of good tweaks that pretty much anyone would want to have.
I know most of these are out there posted (like in the excellent GWENI thread) and most like we will have a lot of cross-linkage going on there.
I hope to get a nice database of these tweaks and maybe either work with one of the developers to either make an updated kaiser-tweak program with many more entires, or possibly I can work on developing a PC-based app that would generate a registry file based on chosen options which can then be uploaded to the device. This way you can check-box off the tweaks you like and quickly update the device... that is down the road of course..but thanks for the initial contribution!

I believe all your kaiser tweaks can be found in kaisertweak and schap's advanced configuration. If you want to edit htc home, then home customizer works wonders. Not sure why you need a thread like this when you have all these tools.

Thanks for that input thomassster. Yes I realize that many of these tweaks are included in some of the tweak programs out there (probably 80%?). Part of this here is to bring attention to them. Many of the tweaks are either already built into the cooked ROMs, or people don't necessarily know what they do just from their title. If we can compile here some better descriptions to help better understand what each tweak does, then for people who wish to customize their own devices from the ground up have a good compendium to look through.
Also, registry tweaks isn't all this thread is about. It is about how to add various applications that may have tricky ways of doing things into a compendium where people can find it easily.
For instance, it isn't always easy to get MS Voice command fully working, or Skype, or some GPS softwares. Currently if you want to use some of these programs you have two options:
1) Use a ROM that has these cooked in already.
2) Look through the forum until you find the solution.
Option #2 of course can be very time consuming as information is outdated and dispersed throughout the forums (some of it isn't even in the Kaiser forums). What I am hoping to do is bring this all together to assist all with some of the trickier apps (MSVC, cubes, etc...).
If you feel this is unnecessary, then please feel free not to visit, but I hope you will continue to provide beneficial input. I'll be sure to post your suggestions on the front (if you have more info to give, links and such are appreciated so I don't need to search myself!).
thanks.
I like the idea as all tweaks and tips are spread over thousands of threads.
I worked on collecting my owns long time ago and I think putting them in a new thread is not a big deal unless bengalih do the documentation of all posted tweaks and post them in one document and/or CAB in first post.
Or simply add them to wiki

Thanks for the vote of support. I am as much interested in getting some good descriptions, and many categorizing the tweaks. As many have pointed out most of the tweaks are out there and already included in some of the tweak programs. I would like to add to that by giving attention to exactly what the tweaks do, how they help us, and which ones are highly recommended.
For instance, you might use Dutty's ROM and like all the tweaks in there, while not even realizing what he has done. If you moved to a "lite" ROM you might miss those things, but not really know which tweak it is you need to perform... I hope to gather a good list of that type of info here.
Great!
I totally agree with what you say in your first post. Currently using latest Duttys ROM, but still feel i need something more custom made (by me) in other words i'd like to have a bigger input in what I use.
watching the thread....
Most cooked ROMs are bugged
What about starting with an official shipped ROM?, remove just stupid things like welcome center, customer feedback... everything else is needed.
Most cooked ROMS I've tried have things broken, I mean things that work on official stock ROM and not here.
Like Windows live, 3G call, QuickGPS, HTC album.. I usally do not spend more than a few hours with a cooked ROM before I find too many bugs and too many things that should be working and are not.
I can flash the ROM that came with my TyTN II and add a few cabs, and all work. Camera works, 3G video call works, GPS works, Tomtom works, Skype works... It's WM6.0, but things WORK. No missing icons, no missing buttons, no stupid buttons for hardware that it's not on the phone...
And, expecting those "go cook your own ROM" flames... this is looking a lot like the linux fanboys, I'm not a programmer or OS developer, I see someone announcing an OS and test it, and give my findings. No good if basic things do not work correctly and you have to search for registry tweaks to make something that you had before appear again, or work as in a stock ROM.

I am using a cooked rom and dont have any bugs. Looks like u have tried the wrong roms. And dont forget that shiped roms dont have some customizations(which improve the performance) that the cooked roms have.

3.55.502.01 BASIC WWE ROM (19214) [12Mbyte Page Pool] ** 6 Versions NOW AVAILABLE **

Firstly:
Sorry for the confusion I was not aware that "NO THRILLS" which is what I originally called this Basic ROM was someones 'Trade Mark'. Please forgive me for stepping on any toes, it was not intentional, and not intended to take away from anyones well earned glory. Sorry all!!.
So Here it is:
This is my first ROM I've put up for Download. I've been playing about with these ROMs for quite a while and I have really appreciated everyones help in developing wonderful tools and freely distributing them here.
XDA-Developers is just brillient
So This ROM is based on the latest ATT build (3.55.502.1) I have removed all of the ATT bloat ware, and several applications listed below, and left the ROM open for customizing. I have often found that Most ROMS have only the 5 tab Home, and the older Task Manager etc, so I have removed all traces of these applications and simply left the ROM barebones, so people can just add applications as needed.
Applications removed:
ATT Music Shop
ATT Games Shop
ATT Mobie TV
ATT Music ID
ATT Mall
Real Player
HTC Home
HTC Today Plug-in
HTC Task Manager
Windows Music Player Plug-in
Microsoft Welcome Center
Applications Added:
SDAutoRun
Windows Vista Wait Cursor
Windows Media Player Compatability Upgrade (now plays mp4 video)
Screen Capture App
Reg Editor
This ROM does run 2 additional small Cabs after first installed, these are adding small settings for the ATT network. These Cabs DO NOT AFFECT any none ATT users. Hence this ROM can be used on all carriers that I am aware of.
This ROM is compatible with all the 1.65 Radios. I have not Tried the 1.58 yet, but I have tried the new 1.71 Radio and that one is also compatible with this ROM.
Voice Command and all the OFFICE applications are still there, as is NETCF2.0
I have uploaded two copies, one with the radio, and one without.
I am planning on doing a fully loaded ROM soon based on this acrhitecture.
Please let me know what you guys and girls find with this new ROM
Thank you

I called this ROM a NO THRILLS Rom. Sorry for any confusion but this rom is in no way associated with the Master Chef "NoThrills". Please forgive me if I mis-represented this ROM. I simply ment that it was a stripped down ROM with only Basic Apps installed. In England where I am originally from No Thrills means just that, "very basic". Which is why I used the term. I was not aware until recently that "NoThrills" was a xda members name.
However, NOTATreoFan is dead right its "No Frills" I was thinking of. Doh!!!!! Trust me I program better than I apparently speak !!!
Sorry for the confusion NoThrills. Please don't hate me, i'm just stupid

This isnt the "No Thrills" that you think it is, it looks like we have a new chef which is great but I agree that this should prob be changed from "No Thrills" that is of course you want a cluttered thread with questions like the above. You are right. I was not aware until just now that NoThrills was someones call sign. I have changed the name of the file and printed an appology in the listing.
Thank you for your comments.
Like yourself...I'm anxiously trying and struggling to become a avid chef in cooking ROMs. Is it possible that you could direct a noobie like me to a tutorial or Wiki about what steps you took to take out most of the different AT&T apps and such? This is something I've been trying to do for some time now and have failed at almost every attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciative so that I can further my cooking expertise. If you don't know where to find information could you possibly post a Wiki or tutorial on how you done it yourself?
EDIT: Can someone mirror this through MegaUpload? Rapidshare keeps giving me an error.

Could you help a fellow new chef out and give me some pointers on how you edited some of the files?

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a quicker way to do it, but for me it was a case of locating each and every file for the apps not wanted and deleteing them. Then I went through each rgu file and removed all entries concerning the programs no longer installed. You also have to go through each provxml file to locate any references in there as well, otherwise the rom might develop instabilities. I also did some very minor dsm extractions.
My ROM will decomplie again, so if your looking for a basic architecture to begin on, download my rom and extract it.
Hope that helps

What did you use to view the rgu, provxml files, and dsm files?
I keep getting an error saying that I'm already downloading a file from RapidShare when I try to download either version

Which files are you refering too :
I used notepad for the following files
.provxml
.rgu
and a HEX editor for:
.dsm
I can not report to much success with the dsm files. My knowledge of this area is limited. I was able to remove some lines that were not wanted, but some of the files did not translate well.
Hope that helps
That helps me out quite a bit. I'm going to retry what I've been battling all night and see what I can come up with

MSVC Microsoft Voice Command 1.6

I had to share this with ya all. It is MSVC VER:1.60.4622.0 downloaded from: LINK REMOVED
4 Me, it works with bluetooth with confirmations and everything! I had such hard time when I first got my Telus HTC TOUCH VOGUE P3050 1 yr ago, and then a very hard time when I just recently flashed to the new TelusROM with wm6.1. I was about to give up while still trying to find other versions reading heldeeb's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395501, and I found ver.1.6.19209 as he suggested, but that worked only "flakealy", then I found this torrent, not sure what version it was, I tried to instal-->and behold it work perfectly even with confimations from the bt which I never had b4 with wm6.0! So there is something different about this version-->give it try and I hope it works 4u, I can't imagine a life with a pda with out voice command working--well I can, but its more of a pain! So good luck!
(note this is my 1st post, but I just had to share cause it was such an amazing and suprising find! I tried to zip it and include in this post, but not sure if it will make it, as I read in many posts that files were supposed to be included in the post which I could not find! )
<<ya the upload still fails! so message me if you cant download from the above link and would like to give it a try for wm6.0 or 6.1 pda>>
Help am not able to download. Upload the file to some hosting site and post the links here.
By the way the Microsoft Voice command version which is the 1.6.19214 version is posted here. Is the above version whic you told newer than this???
MS Voice command unfortunately is not freeware.
This is not an easy case as it sometimes is bundled with the software on specific phones.
So it might look like it can be freely posted as some other packaged software.
It's very complicated, but the easiest way to put it is.
Please do not post MS Voice Command, the license holder of the Software Doesn't like it as they are also selling the software.
I cannot see this post as willfully posting of Shareware, i hope it can be understood that Posting of MS Voice command might get formal legal complaints from Microsoft.
Thanks for your understanding.
If MS Voice command was included into a specific Phone model, then it is perfectly acceptable that it is included into the Rom (custom rom), intended to replace the Previous rom already containing MS VoiceCommand.
Actually the linked Thread from the first Post describes it best.
It holds an announcement that it is intended for License holders, or users with a previous legal version already being present. to use.

Tellme for wm6.5

hi,
just saw this software that will be available for wm6.5.
its a voice activating software (sent texts, make calls etc with voice commands)
www.tellme.com
i think its a sub company of microsoft making it.
it says its going to be available through wm marketplace for wm6.5 phones, but cant see why it wont run on other wm OS's.
anyone got a beta of the software? or any other info
Nice site.. Lets wait and see how nice the program would be..
How it is different from MS Voice Command ?

you can search the net for items and places with a voice command (eg. starbucks or ipod etc)
u can also write texts and send them using your voice.
i think it is the evolution if the ms voice command software (microsoft trying to interwine software together and changing the name so that it seems like something fresh and new).

Read the link it does all that and more.
Are MS ever going to release this then?
TellMe was (I believe) a separate company working on this snazzy voice control software, and I believe MS snatched them up to use as a replacement for MSVC going forward.
"Tellme" is certainly a snappier name than "Microsoft Voice Command." It actually looks like Tellme combines MSVC with the voice controls of the Bing app. I wonder how much overlap there will be.
Tell Me is part of the Samsung Intrepid WM 6.5 ROM. Would be great to be able to install that on my phone. Anyone up for the challenge?
hmmm would really like to install this... any1 with an interprid that would let someone here get the app. dont kno how its done but im sure the smart guys here do

Ditto.
Would love to get my hands on that cab.
TellMe
Tellme's primary business is in enterprise IVR systems and Voice enabled CRM and such. The TellMe Mobile apps including the WN6.5 client and the BB client as well at the 555-tell all agregate the voice samples collected during use to make the voice recognition part of their software more acurate and reduce the need for programming.
Seems pretty ingenious and gives Tellme a huge chance to be a great voice app unlike some apps that leave me screaming at my phone like some crazed person. While it again dials some completely random number from my phone book.
I hope that this exclusivity for the intrepid is short lived.

Dont I wish....so for just reading the site abunch goping for someone with access to the right phone.
on a seperate note all these exlusive deals tick me off. They should just post the app in marketplace and be done with it.
All we need is a ROM dump from the interpid, and we should be able to pull it out and create a cab. However, the phone isn't available yet so we will have to wait a bit longer.
Someone with a Samsung Intrepid needs to port it for us.
yes please
You can get it now, well according to their site, however Im in the uk and thus I dont think i will work for me!....
http://www.tellme.com/you/get
How frickin' insulting!!! Right now, on AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon it's only available on Blackberry devices! And on Sprint, it's all Blackberry except for one WM device - the Intrepid!
WTF, Microsoft?!
Package here.It doesn't understand a touch screen, but it seems to work.
Hey guys, since I'm such a 1337 H4x0r I managed reverse engineer the installer from PPCGeeks to find out where the installer got the .cab from. Well, it paid off and I found the .cab straight from the site, and you can download it from: http://m.tellme.com/windows_mobile/TellmeSamsungIntrepid3515.cab. It still doesn't work on my Rhodium, but I figured I'd post this anyway, so you don't have to go to download from PPCGeeks or if you wanted a .cab file instead of the installer.
