I have recently been converted to the XDA from a P900 and the difference is amazing!
However, when I synch my database down to the XDA, UK numbers are sent in the format;
+44 (0161) 123456
So when I press on a contact, it dials a wrong number.
I can't tell the XDA not to dial the international portion of the number....
o2 very unhelpful, as are Microsoft.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Hey Rob,
Usually when you dial a number via cell line the number is comprised of country code + area code + subscriber number, so the number you provided is ok & you will not be charged as for international calls even though you are using the international prefixes
But if you still want to use short numbers then you will need to store the short numbers in the contacts
Is this what you were asking about?
Hi Robbie,
don´t use the leading "0" in the area code if you use country code.

Hello,
WM5 supported looking up contacts by telephone number.
WM6.1 doesnt.
In WM5 you have "Enter a name or number..."
In WM6.1 it is "Enter a name..."
Anybody know, how to enable search by telephone number in WM6.1?
BR Robert
i am havving the same issue here as well, any idea? do i need to enable the voice command calling to enable this feature or soemthing?
Looks like its possible still to search for a number by entering telephone mode with green key and enter number there.
Can anyone approve this?

yep, WM6 seems to have this feature, although it seems not to have any logic.. when i know, my girlfriends number is like xxx-xxxx and it's saved there in the memory, it doesn't bring it to me when typing the number.. instead it shows some other contacts..
i mean.. what? does it except only first five digits and shows the results of first three contacts in alphabetic order that has those matching five digits..? please advice..?
EDIT: the best way would be, if man could simply search with a number straight from the contacts. just like in WM5.
I got it, the number can be searched on the Telephone mode by entering the EXACT number.. This means Country Code aswell!.. Boaargh...
Just use the search in start menu. It was there since wm2003. You can search with any data in a contact; name, TP#, email, address.......

Hi!
I bought the MDA Vario 4/HTC Touch Pro just today.
Wonderfull machine, but i experience just 1 problem.
When I receive SMS/Text messages, it does not recognize from who the message is coming. When i click on the number who send it, it says that the number is not in my contact list.
I tried several ways, to store the contact in different ways, the country code +31/0031 or just internal without the country code.
Whatever i tried, it just does not help :S
Can anyone help me?

You are absolutly sure that you have the contacts in your contact list? Because it won´t recognize contacts from the SIM card. You will have to copy them from SIM to phone at least in my case.
The numbers in my contact list are all beginning with +316******** and works just fine.

Yep, same here
+316*****, but it does not recognize the names. When i click them, it says This contact is not in your list, would you like to add?
Tried hard reset, soft reset, delete all my contacts, tried set different options in the options menu.
I found 1 way to recognize it, but that is not the standard way:
When i fill in a Name in the "E-Mail" field in the properties of a contact, then it recognizes the sender.. Not any other way

The only problem is at SMS :S

Are your contacts located on your simcard? If so, try to copy them to your phonememory, i remember i had a similar issue with my hermes and that solved the problem.

Add your contact to your Outlook Desktop application and sync your device.

Well, that's the way i do it and it works flawlessly, plus you never loose contacts again.
How about this. When the message of Add this contact pops up, just click yes, and replace that number with the one you already have for your contact, granted that it's the same, it'll detect it.

What field do you have the telephone numbers in?
When a text is recieved, it looks in the Mobile and txt fields within contacts. If the number is stored in Home, or Work, then it won't find them.
At least, that's how mine seems to work.

Its stored in the Mobile section..
i went to T-Mobile, but even the Demo device there doesnt seem to recognise numbers in te SMS section. Maybe an bug on the first Software of T-Mobile?
wouldn't surprise me tbh.
it could also be down to the cli used by the network.
Using schaps, you can play around with the number of characters used for CLI. Dunno how much difference it makes, as i never had to use it for that....t-mobile in the UK seems to work ok. But then, I never use the branded ROMs, cos the networks are notorious for making dodgy stock ROMs even worse....!
I have Found The Sollution
It is an registry bug from the t-mobile software..
It has been found on only the T-Mobile branded Raphael's.
How to fix it:
Install an Registry Editor
Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>ControlPanel>Phone
Here is an D-Word registry called: CallIDMatch, the value on my phone was standing on "12". When you edit the value and set it to 8. All of the problems dissappear.
Don't matter if you have the contact stored as: 00316... / +316.../06...
It recognizes every type of storage of contact.
I Thank everybody here for thinking with me for a sollution!
Hi,
Anybody knows of an app to show the contact name in a text message instead of a mobile number? For example the 'Who Called' service from T-mobile (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/call-options/who-called/) will send you a text message of the phone number(s) that called while the phone was switched off.
I receive such messages with phone numbers and have to actually try to call the number to figure out the contact (if it exists).
Thanks,
-Gus

Are you saying your stock messaging app doesn't automatically link your contact name?
I've used both the stock messaging app and ChompSMS and both of them display the person's name that the number is associated with in my contacts list (and shows their picture if I have one set for them).

I think what he's saying is that the text message is being sent from T-Mobile in every case and the content of the message is a telephone number. Although he is sent the number of the person that called he does not know which contact the number is linked to and the only way to find out is to call that number and see what contact name shows up in the call log. It basically sounds like he wants a way to look up a contact by phone number.

That's the part I'm confused about. The SMS app already shows the name, and if you long click on them you can call that person directly or view their contact details...
So even if only a number showed up, he should be able to just long press on it and then get to the contact details and see who it is.
The OP mentions the phone being OFF.

Yes that is exactly it. Its not the name of the sender of the message. Its a number in a text message of someone (it can be more than one number) who called me while my phone was switched off for any reason.
Thanks,

I use Hullomail. It replaces your network voicemail service and it's 'free'. Also it will send you a email with the number or name of the caller but you would need to give the app service access to your Gmail contacts for that.
They also have an app in the market to access all your voicemails.
Features:
* Receive and play voice-emails directly in your inbox, mobile and the web
* Get notified of any missed call, even in areas with no mobile reception
* Take control of your voice-emails – it’s up to you, not the operator
* Share, delete and keep your voice-emails forever, within a click
* See who’s calling you instantly from your email contacts
* Access, view, and manage your voice-emails, all from one place
* Use the 'send a Hullo' feature, which allows you to record and send short messages to your friends for FREE *
I would like to create a link on a web page that, when clicked, displays a name for the phone number along with the phone number.
For example, suppose I have the following link:
(555) 555-5555
I would like to display "My Company" when you click on the link in the phone dialer.
On WP7, for example, the above link would result in "Unknown Contact". However, I'm sure there's a parameter that we can pass to make this work, as searching using Bing for a local business will pass that business name to the dialer app even if the business is not in your contacts.
I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for this issue. This may be OS dependent... I've looked through the standard for the "tel" URI, but I couldn't find any info regarding this issue.
THanks.
