Cross platform pagepool changer, even WM6! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I don't do Windows!
...or .net
There, that sums up why I wrote my own page pool changer
I do all my development on Linux, but this app will run on:
XP, Vista, Linux, OSX, Solaris, WM5 & WM6!
Thats right, edit the page pool right on your MicroSD flash chip while its still in your phone!
Heres version 1.0, I'd like someone who has a different page pool changer program to verify that mine modifies the file the same way on all platforms.
The program requires the eTcl runtime, which you can install to your Storage Card to save space. Theres a runtime for Window, WM5/6, Linux and OSX at:
http://www.evolane.com/software/etcl/index.html .
On my phone I run the Standard version, but I believe any of the 3 would work fine. After thats installed, it will create file associations for .tcl files.
Just click on pagepool.tcl and it should run.
Its the same pagepool.tcl application file for all platforms, so when I make an update, everyone grabs the same app file, regardless of your operating system.
Edit Jun 8 2008: Fix a bug that would make Duttys new V1 not boot after changing the pagepool.
Fixed bug caused by first fix, now version 1.1a.
Edit Jun 10 2008: Version 1.1b Added pagepool sizes 1,2,4 & 64meg.
And we need some screenshots and the application:

My impression is...
Wowwwww!!!!
Very fast at analyzing and modifying rom. Multi OS platform too. Tried it on L26 Diamond v5...Success.
Good job. Hmmm....I like this tcl lang. Going to try it.

What platform are you running? I'll be glad to point you to the best Tcl resources on the net. Start with the wiki at http://wiki.tcl.tk as everything about the language revolves around the wiki. I'm a professional programmer and have been using Tcl for over 10 years and it just keeps getting better.

Ha...ha...ha... I think you gonna be one of the SIFU (Master) here in XDA-Developer Community.

I'm flashing L26_V5 again but with 16meg pagepool and todays date ...%50
Update: Cool, 81.55 megs free, just as Tayton got with a 16meg page pool.
So for L26_V5 it works fine after being edited on the phone itself.
Thanks Tayton for the howto and thanks Kyphur for giving me a screen shot to base my program on.
Sometimes I spend hours contemplating the layout of a gui.
Update2: Changed pagepool to 32meg, flashed, and phone shows 65.50 megs free, 16megs less than the previous 81.55 megs. Good, now I can go back to 16megs an use my phone again.

Incredible work
Thanks, mate....
Cheers

Dear Moderators,
This one thread should be STICKY!
Why.... Read from post #1.
..............................It's fast and cross platform too. A whole new approach in programming tools just like some other wonderful tools by some of our programmers in here.

Don't worry. It won't brick other phone if they follow the rules. The first one is to know and learn about HardSPL. If it still happen then it's all mistake done by themself who never learn to read the WIKI or at least go through the posts on specific threads regarding the issue of interest.
So my suggestion for noobs is..... LEARN FIRST..READ THE WIKI AND THEN, FULFILL YOUR NEEDS.

Time for a break, then I'll boot into OSX for a test and screenshot unless someone beats me to it. My new development laptop triple boots Linux, XP and OSX.

Fixed a critical bug
I just fixed a bug that would make Dutty's new V1 not boot after changing the pagepool.
Reason: I hard coded byte 2 of the pagepool, that doesn't work
Please fetch a new copy. Its now version 1.1
Hopefully I was the only one who spent 4 hours trying to boot a corrupted ROM.
Booting up to Duttys Diamond V1 w/16meg pagepool now, looking good.

Hi,
Will this work for WM6.1 ROMS?
Thanks
Msuk

Yes! Actually, I've only tested it with WM6.1 ROMs.
I'm running Duttys Diamond V1 with 16meg pagepool right now.

Confirmed! The Dutty's Diamond v1 modified by this tool works nicely as expected.

I've noticed that all ROMs have 2 dates and 2 pagepool points to edit, except for HyperDragon III WM6.1 WWE ROM CE OS 5.2.19588 Build 19588.1.1.4, which only has one set each.
Does anyone know why? Does this correlate with other page pool changer apps?

Sorry for the quick post but I'm late as usual! Jose asked me a couple of daze ago to release this Wizard ROM. My wife and a few others have been quite happy with it. Unfortunately I have no time this AM to post the info (but we had to "sit" on it for a while..)
The biggest issue with it is changing the theme if I remember correctly.
Anyway, here goes, enjoy

Ok, initial comments...
This is the same rom that we are working on in the other thread about official Wizard rom. OS shows at 10.1.0.811 and the build date is Aug 2006 (See pics below). It has a few apps on it (X-Button 1.5 is on here and enabled so thats why the today screen problems that Dr. P mentioned I'm guessing). BatteryStatus is on here and is build 182.
The menu sounds (clicks) are disabled.
Apps I see so far:
Office 2007
Adobe Reader
Smartskey (not active by default)
Registry Editor (DotFred's TaskManager)
Total Commander
HTC Zip
WM5torage
VoiceCommand
BatteryStatus (has the program/icon in Start>System>Settings)
CallCalendar2 (no clue what this is. I clicked on it and it didn't seem to do anything)
Mobile Secretary
PIM Backup
SIPConfig
StartupManager
Windows Update
X-Button 1.5
Seems quick. I haven't looked to see what the pagepool is yet. Only thing I'm surprised at is the program memory being low right after flash (23meg)
Hmmm interesting looks like I have something to do during lunch. Assuming I get to take one.

X-Button 1.5 is causing this issue.
Thanks Faria and Dr P.
Here is some basic info on the rom.
OS 5.2.318 (BUILD 15342.4.0.01)
MEMORY (PROGRAM)
TOTAL 49.70
IN USE 26.58
FREE: 23.12 (28.9 after below step)
After deleting the following shortcuts from WINDOWS/STARTUP (btdwake.lnk, capnotify.lnk, init_tray.lnk, poutlook.lnk, vibrate.lnk, voice command.lnk)and doing a soft reset my free program memory increased to 28.9mb
This rom seems blisteringly fast to me! Gonna throw a few apps at it now...
This is just the OS. No extended rom, gsm, splash screens etc.

Just curious why you chose to use older camera app
I saw the list of apps looks pretty impressive...but just have a question why you decided to base the ROM w/o the newest camera version.
Looks nice though...might have to give it a whirl...
My phone / coverage area does not seem to like the 1.58.26.20 radio however...so I will be changing that right away.

Installed this ROM for a while...
and I must say I am very impressed. Has a lot of nice features and is very very fast. I didn't have any issues with it. Great job my man...very nice indeed
The only thing I would change is have the Network Configuration Wizard pop up on 1st boot. Not that it's a big issue for me but that a lot of users might have problems on first boot

alltheway - I will look in to the camera. I pretty much tried to keeo it simple and not to many frills and fluf to slow things down.
As for the Net Config Wizzard, How does one go about getting it to pop on the first boot ? I used it straight from Alex's packages.
Why I have your attention can you explain why it shows the 1.60.00.00 on boot and how to correct it ?
Again THANKS FOR THE KIND AND SUPPORTIVE REVIEWS

I don't think there is anything wrong with putting trail software into a ROM. In fact I think this actually benifits the companies as a whole. If you like and use the software as much and deem is necessary to have then you purchase it.
I'm not sure how you would make the Network Configuration come up on first boot. I notice that when I did install it did not bring me to the normal installation packages like installing a .tsk home screen and that nature. I did a reboot and then the network configuration came up without any issues.
I am also not sure what it's coming up as 1.60.00.00
What OS build are you using?

I know that with Build 5.2.19716 The Rom is trully a 1.60.00.00

Chef Mentor Wanted...

hi, peeps.
Im having a play with some bits and pieces and think I get it. Wondered if a kind Chef would mind taking me under thier wing and giving me a few bits to play with eg partially created roms, ones that didnt work, ones that did, a couple of different roms and then get me to try and merge them etc.
Want to extract some existiing roms so I can learn how the bits all work. Yes I have read the tuts and guides. But I fancy having a foster chef help me get up to speed.
Soz if this is against the rules, I just fancy trying to be an apprentice first and learn from different roms what worked and what didnt, and more importantly, why. Also want to learn about these tweaks people make to the dlls etc.

Thanks raiisak, Its very refreshing to see someone who goes that bit further. I had seen some of those, but there are a few new links I hadnt come accross before.
Just bit the bullet and flashed my first rom It aint grear, but at least it works! Not getting the performance of Leo though, even though I used his core v4. Must try and see why.
To the "read the wiki" bregade, I confirm I had before I wrote this thread. Reason I asked for a mentor, is that is how I approach my work. For my employer, I have mentors, and I mentor others. Collaboration was what I thought forums and communities were all about - perhaps I was mistaken.
Once again, thank you to raiisak. No doubt Ill be in contact to see how you get on, as well as trying to learn with you if I can keep up

Well I am glad it helped you a bit on the way, and I fully understand why you search a mentor. All the info on cooking are great untill you reach more advanced areas best explained by chefs who knows the deal or others who are contributing and developing.
I have a couple more for you:
Universal WM6 ROM Kitchen
XDA PagePool Patcher v1.4 for ALL Kaiser Rom Files (and Touch dual)
Others string of intrest is:
how to edit a .rgu
how to create a oem
how the build a package
Remeber L26 and other great chef`s rgu`s are heavy modified. Theyre roms are stripped and customized over and over. We deadly need to start fresh, learning the kitchen, again and again its stucked in mind and fingers. Then move on and add oure own packages editing those oem and flash, reflash and flash some more. Reading up on forum while you are cooking is a great thing as its wery time consuming. Doing it basic adding one by one is a great learning curve and great for bugtesting.
Lucky me I am under a great chefs wing and will be happy to provide/pass on some basic knowledge about cooking if you gets stuck youre first week
Just shout out or pm me and ill do my best.

WOW! Thanks dude...
That stock tool removal will be my next step.
My first cooked rom still hasnt died yet - I just bunged anyold crap in to see how it would look, and if it would work. The fact it even booted amazed me - and there are even some bits I like in there. - for example there are 2 start menus, one normal WM version, the other like a Desktop. Id never seen that before - Id always wanted to clean out a rom, then put some of my most used apps - Opera, RSS, PIE a couple of games or something. Now I might "play" more and think more outside the box... Dunno yet !
Edit: - when I say 2 Start menus, I mean at the same time, depending on where you click on, icon for detailed version, word for simple version.

Also if you going to do youre own stuff I recomend WinCE CAB Manager, unfort. its not free. But its a wery wery nice cab tool. I use it all the time to make my own tweaks as I flash faster than flash gordon himself and cant be arsed hack the reg manualy everythims. You can build a house in there, im sure of it. Anyways, you should check it out.

Hi
It is good to see a determined fellas that try to cook. I'm no cook and merely a average user... but if i'm not mistaken, the two start menu you talking about might be coming from qmenu (the one that look like desktop.. by desktop i assume you mean windows desktop and it is a cascading start menu). maybe the base you use already have it installed.

3.55.502.01 BASIC WWE ROM (19214) [12Mbyte Page Pool] ** 6 Versions NOW AVAILABLE **

Firstly:
Sorry for the confusion I was not aware that "NO THRILLS" which is what I originally called this Basic ROM was someones 'Trade Mark'. Please forgive me for stepping on any toes, it was not intentional, and not intended to take away from anyones well earned glory. Sorry all!!.
So Here it is:
This is my first ROM I've put up for Download. I've been playing about with these ROMs for quite a while and I have really appreciated everyones help in developing wonderful tools and freely distributing them here.
XDA-Developers is just brillient
So This ROM is based on the latest ATT build (3.55.502.1) I have removed all of the ATT bloat ware, and several applications listed below, and left the ROM open for customizing. I have often found that Most ROMS have only the 5 tab Home, and the older Task Manager etc, so I have removed all traces of these applications and simply left the ROM barebones, so people can just add applications as needed.
Applications removed:
ATT Music Shop
ATT Games Shop
ATT Mobie TV
ATT Music ID
ATT Mall
Real Player
HTC Home
HTC Today Plug-in
HTC Task Manager
Windows Music Player Plug-in
Microsoft Welcome Center
Applications Added:
SDAutoRun
Windows Vista Wait Cursor
Windows Media Player Compatability Upgrade (now plays mp4 video)
Screen Capture App
Reg Editor
This ROM does run 2 additional small Cabs after first installed, these are adding small settings for the ATT network. These Cabs DO NOT AFFECT any none ATT users. Hence this ROM can be used on all carriers that I am aware of.
This ROM is compatible with all the 1.65 Radios. I have not Tried the 1.58 yet, but I have tried the new 1.71 Radio and that one is also compatible with this ROM.
Voice Command and all the OFFICE applications are still there, as is NETCF2.0
I have uploaded two copies, one with the radio, and one without.
I am planning on doing a fully loaded ROM soon based on this acrhitecture.
Please let me know what you guys and girls find with this new ROM
Thank you

I called this ROM a NO THRILLS Rom. Sorry for any confusion but this rom is in no way associated with the Master Chef "NoThrills". Please forgive me if I mis-represented this ROM. I simply ment that it was a stripped down ROM with only Basic Apps installed. In England where I am originally from No Thrills means just that, "very basic". Which is why I used the term. I was not aware until recently that "NoThrills" was a xda members name.
However, NOTATreoFan is dead right its "No Frills" I was thinking of. Doh!!!!! Trust me I program better than I apparently speak !!!
Sorry for the confusion NoThrills. Please don't hate me, i'm just stupid
Problems Reported So Far
None, However some poeple have commented on various NETCF configurations, hence the list of availlable versions has been updated to accomodate these requests.
Now you can have :
No NETCF

NETCF3.0
Enjoy!
Thx M8, I'll give it a go...
wich no thrills rom is this based on because its not v3? or is it just the no thrills concept
No offence but for me this shouldn't be named "No Thrills". everyone should know why... its just... dunno how to name it even...

This isnt the "No Thrills" that you think it is, it looks like we have a new chef which is great but I agree that this should prob be changed from "No Thrills" that is of course you want a cluttered thread with questions like the above. Its always nice to have another chef though, Ill give it a whirl if I get the time.

He can rename it to No Frills. Oh wait... that would confuse people who shop at Pathmark and buy their house-brand products...

I hate to be that guy who says "I told you so" but, I told you so LOL
You are right. I was not aware until just now that NoThrills was someones call sign. I have changed the name of the file and printed an appology in the listing.
Thank you for your comments.
Like yourself...I'm anxiously trying and struggling to become a avid chef in cooking ROMs. Is it possible that you could direct a noobie like me to a tutorial or Wiki about what steps you took to take out most of the different AT&T apps and such? This is something I've been trying to do for some time now and have failed at almost every attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciative so that I can further my cooking expertise. If you don't know where to find information could you possibly post a Wiki or tutorial on how you done it yourself?
EDIT: Can someone mirror this through MegaUpload? Rapidshare keeps giving me an error.

Great Entrance, Anthony, but I welcome your "stripped" WWE Rom to the Kaiser community..
Great stuff for those who like it plain and simple.
Good to see so many new chefs around.
Look forward to seeing more of your work in future.
WIzard200x,
"Stripped" .... Yes that would of been perfect
Next time, I will think a little harder before giving my creations a name.
Thank you everyone for your understanding !!

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a quicker way to do it, but for me it was a case of locating each and every file for the apps not wanted and deleteing them. Then I went through each rgu file and removed all entries concerning the programs no longer installed. You also have to go through each provxml file to locate any references in there as well, otherwise the rom might develop instabilities. I also did some very minor dsm extractions.
My ROM will decomplie again, so if your looking for a basic architecture to begin on, download my rom and extract it.
Hope that helps

What did you use to view the rgu, provxml files, and dsm files?
I keep getting an error saying that I'm already downloading a file from RapidShare when I try to download either version

Which files are you refering too :
I used notepad for the following files
.provxml
.rgu
and a HEX editor for:
.dsm
I can not report to much success with the dsm files. My knowledge of this area is limited. I was able to remove some lines that were not wanted, but some of the files did not translate well.
Hope that helps
That helps me out quite a bit. I'm going to retry what I've been battling all night and see what I can come up with

[04/06/09]Modified Phoenix II WM6.1 Rom

Hi there,
My first ROM release.
I hope some of you like it.
As it is my first release I'd like to have feedback on it.
The ROM is cooked with the Phoenix Kitchen from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476015
Wm6.1 21109 rom.
I wanted to make a fast and stable rom without things I didn't need like MS voice command. I also took out manilla2d and chose to use HTC home instead.
the rom had a 3g Dialer with full video calling support.
Included Programs are:
HTC audio manager, iContact, G-Alarm, Pocket Notepad, NoData, Opera, ms voip plugin, Pocket RAR, S2U2 1.62, MS office, Camera 5.xx, Quick Position,
Total Commander, Advanced Config, Connection Setup, 9 button action screen on long press send button, 8 button comm manager (same skin as Dialer), Hardware keyboard speed increase tweak.
I also included a few freeware games, Rhodium Ringtone package ( and took out most standard windows mobile ringtones). and I took some drivers/packages out for things I never used or thought not necessary, packages are (from SYS folder): IPSECVPN packages, IRDA, Onenote, Remote Desktop, Transcriber and MS voicecommand. (These should be installable with standard cab files.)
I get 82.68 MB total Program Memory after hard reset, and 47,82 free after installing everything I use (like Igo8) and softreset.
Pagepool is set to Dynamic (if anyone has any suggestions about pagepool I'd like to hear it.)
Some Registry tweaks from the standard Phoenix rom are also still included, like setting camera shutter delay and end call delay to 0 ms, glyphcache, powermanagement tweaks, added Igo8.exe to S2U2 exception list, Disabling sliding sound.
Credits go to the Phoenix Development team of course for releasing their rom and their kitchen and for answering my cooking questions!
To Anryl for the Original Port used by the phoenix Development team and to Bepe for releasing the great kitchen tools I used!
I also have to thank A_C for his work on making S2U2 even better with his new password protection and Notification add-on.
and of course everyone who released freeware programs/packages/cabs/anything else I didn't make myself...

Hope to get a confirmation!
Congrats on your first release sir, Put up that download link for us addict flashers
I guess that means It's allowed
Anyone know some better places to upload?
I could make a torrent, I can share up to 80kb/s upload, but don't know if torrents are allowed here?
Wonderful Mr.Josh, You are really a darling for novice like us. I was scared coz someone told me that modifying an already released ROM is not allowed. Thanks & Kudos to poster again.

should be fine then since they release a kitchen for everyone to use
what about the name?
congrats man...ill try it..sounds tight..
although i cant speak for parley p (the phoenix chef) that he will be alright with it or not...he is one hell of a nice guy, not just an amazing chef...and i dont think that he would mind this being a modification of the kitchen he released to everyone...but....i think maybe u could change the name?
u see calling it a "modified phoenix" is kinda confusing as ppl might think it has something to do with the original PHOENIX rom series...sorta like copyright infringement lol...
so i think maybe changing the name of ur rom....and then keep the explanation that it is based on the PHOENIX rom kitchen..
just my humble 2 cents
congratz again
haha, I don't think Parley would care, might want to give it your own name, so people don't get confused. Parley wouldn't have released a kitchen if he didn't want people to modify the ROM, if you make something good, release it. You credited us for the kitchen, which is credited to bepe and Anryl as well, so it's all good unless parley thinks otherwise.
i already flash this... but somehow my ActiveSync won't connect... already hard reset twice... now i'm try to download another rom and try to flash... but i doubt i can because i didn't connected through activesync.

I flashed this rom 4 times (each time with a lil change) and active sync works normally here,
I did have some problems with it a few days ago, but after going into task manager and shutting down "wcescomm.exe" "rapimagr.exe", shutting down active sync on my kaiser and then reconnecting problem was gone!
If problem stays, you can always flash from sdcard, just copy a rom to it,
rename it to KAISIMG.nbh and restart your kaiser
About a name... well if anyone has an idea, I didn't have much time to think of one cause I should be learning for a test tomorrow
