ROM cooking THREAD

Hi everyone.
I started this thread, because i rly wanna try to build my own ROM.
I ll base it to O2 German XDA neo ROM and just remove the useless stuff.
As informatik i think i will manage this, just need any person who tells me how to beginn.
Here are my current questions for beginning:
- ROM includes ext rom also?
- How to "backup" my ROM (cause i want to save and need the files to edit them)
- How about OS Rom? I also need to edit it? (dont think so, only wanted to ask
- Wich tools i ll need to edit the ROM (extract/modify/repack)
- Its a G4 model, i need to unlock it before i can backup the roms? (tried with aWizard without unlock, only ext ROM was backuped)
- What else i need to know!?
Would be really nice, if any person who already made a own ROM could give me some start advise/information. Would prefer a German guy, cause its more complicated in a forgein language, but dont have to. Also it would be really nice if he could communicate over ts2, or jus ICQ/MSN etc to me, cause its just faster as over forum.
If i done, i ll write an enlish+german howto thread about this.

Hello, please stop starting 3 and more new threads in a row with questions that have been answered already in other threads. Please try searching the entire forum first.

3) the topics are not really the same
4) in this thread u linked its not talked about prophet, but there are own prophet roms, so any1 else must made experince with this tools particularly for prophet

Hard Spl duttys and back to oem rom do i need to hard spl again

Sorry for the newb post but I have followed all the steps for the SIM and CID unlock with Hard SPL,, I installed Dutty's latest rom and have gone back to the OEM rom to compare battery usage and now I want to use a custom rom again. Do i need to run Hard SPL again or is this a one time thing?

read a bit more, please.... you only need read the Wiki and this forum stiky threads to find an answer....

First answer absolutely correct - read some more, starting here.
In general, you shouldn't need to re-flash hardSPL unless you've screwed something up. To check, go into bootloader and it should show you your SPL version.

Btw, Ive been using this forum for a while, and i do plenty of searches. With that said; I just poured over the wiki for the last half hour and then spent a fair amount of time doing MANY searches through the forums search., I eventually found this thread after about 40 minutes through a GOOGLE search query as this forums search couldnt find this... i actually gave up using this forums search query, and had to use google and look through a couple other kaiser forums aswell...
Yes, the saying goes look with your eyes not your mouth. But the search and organization of this forum is not exactly that easy to sift through.. Before you get too upset with this guy for not reading more, know that I as well spent a very frustrating amount of time trying to find this simple answer as well.
Thanks 'Download' for the newb post, and thanks to you 'ach2' for the straight forward answer, without it i would still be stuck.

Flashing to Dutty's 6.1 Hybrid v2

Hi guys, I decided that my first ROM to flash is going to be Dutty's. Now, before you say "Read the Wiki" or "Read the Stickies" or "Read this Post" I already have, and I couldn't find the answers to these questions:
1. Do I have to HardSPL my device every time I flash a new ROM, or just once before the first one?
2. How can I upgrade/make sure I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1?
3. Do I flash a ROM before flashing a radio, or vice-versa?

Please don't clutter the forum with these kind of questions. I know that ALL of those questions are either self evident...or they have been answered 1000 times before.

Hes right, they're all there, i discovered this for myself after i asked the same thing!

I'm sorry if i sounded harsh. If you're feeling understanding, try looking through the threads in the "rom DEVELOPMENT" forum and see how many threads actually have anything to do with developing roms. Maybe you'll understand my frustrations.

In the interest of being nice, here's the answers to your questions. I know it's a little overwhelming when you first are taking the plunge.
1. Do I have to HardSPL my device every time I flash a new ROM, or just once before the first one?
you only have to flash hardspl once. Before you flash custom roms. Absolutely do nothing else till you've done this.
2. How can I upgrade/make sure I'm running Windows Mobile 6.1?
Any of the new roms that are released should be WM6.1 roms, so just try a few and see which you like the best...i personally love shogun's Death V2 rom the best of all that are out right now.
3. Do I flash a ROM before flashing a radio, or vice-versa?
It doesn't matter, most roms have compatible radios with them, but if they don't then just download a radio and flash it before or after the rom

I don't understand how to tell if the ROM i downloaded, for example: who can i tell that http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=67&act=sd is a WM 6.1 OS without actually flashing it on my kaiser?

Thank you lol...i had seen that screen when i was working with the wizard a while back, but for kaiser i really couldnt navigate the correct link...i guess i have WM6.1 Thank you

The linl is in the wiki of course; in the section for the kaiser under rom upgrading, there are links for both cooked and original roms

First of all, virtually every new rom that has come out in the last few months has been WM6.1. Some of the roms actually say that they are. You can also look the rom versions up in the wiki, and last but not least...you could just ask that question in the thread for the ROM you're looking at.
What you should not do is start a thread like this in the ROM developoment section. I know it's tempting to start threads here because it is the busiest of the Kaiser Forums, but it's very frustrating when new users don't follow the rules here. It's not that we don't understand that people just don't know where to put their question sometimes, it's just frustrating cause all these threads that have nothing to do with rom develoopment clutter this forum and push much more relevant topics back several pages sometimes.
So in the future, please observe the forum policies by reading, searching, and posting in EXISTING threads first. Hope your question is answered completely, and happy flashing!

New ATT Tilt

Hi i have a new att tilt and i wanna do the following to it..
I want to install hard spl and unlock the cid so i can put custom roms on it
so i have a few questions
which hard spl is good and which rom version should i use? please dont flame me..there is soo much info on this forum. i just wanted to be pointed in the right directions.
Any question i can answer thnx

Ok Before the flaming begins go into TPC or Josh's thread and read the FAQ I put up. They are both chefs.

The STICKY @ the top and the WIKI will answer your questions....
zelendel like stated has put a veey good Q&A together.

read the stickies and the wikis. they'll point you in the right direction. that's what they were designed for.
