Blackberry Connect - General Topics

Can anybody tell me all the WinMo phones that are capable of this?
- ATT Tilt
- Motorola Q9h
is that it...? i work with ATT at my job, so I can get whatever phone that I want, but of course I need to receive my work email on there. seems like BB Connect is my only option, so that has to be on there to justify my reason for getting whatever phone.
i tried to go the ActiveSync Push route, but we're using a VPN (which uses tokens), and I don't think I can use that on any phone....

anybody...?

You could always just get a pure BB device if you want BB email. I still don't think BC on WM is the best, adds some lag to the device.
Also by going to the Blackberry Connect website (google for it) it shows which devices the software is officially supported on. Others on this forum have been able to get BC to run on other devices not on that list.
Finally you can always check out sems.org, a lot of information on BC there.

HTC s640 Windows Mobile 6.1 Release Date?

Hi folks,
Does anyone have information RE: the release date for WinMo 6.1 for the HTC s640? The Touch got its update a few weeks back, can we expect the same?
Telus is promising an update for RevA capability, I assume this will come with 6.1.
Im interested to know as well, been waiting.. and waiting... and waiting and getting very tired. When will we enjoy the upgrage?
Pretty stupid we haven't seen an update for the S640 yet! Telus doesn't even have any 6.1 Smartphone Standard devices... something that I find awefully wierd considering their promotion of WM devices and smartphone in general. This is seriously stupid. Even the old crusty S620 has the WM6.1 upgrade kicking around for it!
ya, new update came out.
and it's a wm6 update.
lol
nice telus.
I just installed the update on my phone. GPS still doesn't work for me; a Telus rep told me it would be included in this update.
No WM6.1 and no GPS. I am very disappointed by this.
quick update... I was able to get GPS working on my s640 using the instructions/apps found in this post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36639
When using the GetSPC app on your phone, enter your HEX ESN in the top input box, push the left key twice until you don't see a cursor, then click the middle button. There is an "invisible" go button that the s640 doesn't display in this app... it should generate your SPC in the lower box.
I'm able to use both Gmaps and Live Maps w/ GPS now.
Enjoy!
I can verify Tatusmi success with his GPS, I updated my s640 via HTC's website, and followed along the instructions from the link he provided and the SPC program (after figuring it out it was case sensitive).
Good work Tatusmi, a feature that should have always been active now works.
I got the above to work )for a telus s640(. (although I lost everything on my phone because my activesync was messed).
But the HTC update to 3.0 worked great. The GPS enabled instructions worked flawlessly. I got google maps to find 10+ gps signals and was able to find my location.
but, I can't get TOMTOM to work. Won't find the internal GPS
NAV4all just sucks.
I am working on Garmin mobile XT to try it out - but I keep getting stuck with it triing to find a bluetooth unit. And it doesn't give the option to choose internal or com port or nothing.
any ideas?
nevermind, I got garmin to work.
Just couldn't get it to work automatically with some card id or something.
had to open garmin. go to settings -> about -> and the cardid is listed there.
once that is good, everything shows up properly.
I can write WM6.1 rom for s640. My ICQ - 731889 - write to me.
strik3r, I don't use ICQ anymore... can't you post here or use PMs?
Glad I could help you guys with the GPS!
I dont know about anyone else , But id be more excited to see Android on this device then 6.1 .... dont get me wrong winmo is a good plat. But Android would be killer ..
Ive been doing a little research .. and the Htc Vogue has a android version running and you can fallow the few steps to get it running with haret . well kinda .
Anyway just curious to know if anyone else has had any luck with linux on this device or anyone willing to help getting linux running on this device .

I've received confirmation from telus that they're not going to upgrade the Iris's rom. apparently there were compatibility issues, but i don't buy it.
I think someone should do this themselves, much akin to what seems to have been done in the other forums to other phones aka the 620. I'd do it but I really have no idea where to start.

I also received confirmation from Telus that this phone would never see WinMo 6.1, nor would any of their other existing WinMo Standard devices.
The line they gave you about compatibility is bull though, I called HTC about it and they said there is absolutely no reason why this phone can't run 6.1, it has more than the minimum required hardware.
I'd love to see a cooked version of 6.1 for the phone, but I also don't know where to start. I also don't use ICQ anymore so I can't seek out striker's help. Andrioid would be neat too, I don't have any experience with it... but anything is better than tired ole WinMo 6.
Well what a pissoff. 6.1s so nice. Makes me angry I didn't get a touch
IT WORKS on TELUS S640 with GOOGLE MAPS!!!
Thanks for all the information , I could not locate the driver that was listed in c:\windows\system32\drivers so I found drivers that work. Awsome, thanks everyone. Just a side note to take the phone out of diagnostic mode just ##3424 then hit "send" (same as to put into diag mode).
Confirmation on S640 GPS
i just want to confirm, so the s640 tweak for the gps, worked for telus s640.
i just need to confirm that once this is done, i would be able to use google maps to get my location using the internal gps of the phone or how ?
cause right now i am using a bluetooth gps to get navigation on my winmo. with out having to do anything to the Registrer or any other tweaks.
can you please confirm

[Q] Can an Android phone be used as JUST a PDA?

I need to know if I can use an Android phone JUST for the PDA functionality - It would be used on WiFi only, and never for phone calls.
I know the simple answer seems to be 'yes', but has anyone actually done it? I'm worried that some phones might require activation before even getting into the phone (like my Fascinate did.) I know you can dial a keypad combination in the dialer to override that, but this is going to be for my 68 year old father who just wants the advanced GPS functionality (logging, geotagging photos) for use with offline GPS programs like CoPilot or Sygic, along with whatever other non-internet-connected apps he might want to use.
Furthermore, I've heard that AT&T & TMo phones will display an error about a missing or inactive SIM, but I've not heard whether you can move past that and just use the device as a mini-tablet.... I've been a VZW victim since the Droid's hit the market, so I don't know if this is a concern or not.
So, bottom line, my question is this - if I buy a no-contract phone (even [gasp] one with a bad ESN from eBay) and never activate it with the cell provider, can I use the device as just a PDA, and are there any special considerations I've overlooked?
Thanks to all who offer help!!!

Please help!!!

I have a samsung focus s unlocked that i am using with family mobile whish is powered by t mobile. Everthing works fine and I only get edge speeds. Its my girlfriends phone and she really loves it except one problem she can send or receive Picture messages. Is there anything I can do to get it to work? I have searched everything I can find and nothing works. If someone could help me figure this out I would happy to send them $20 paypal. Thanks for any help
Is it that you have tried and were not able to send, or you did not know how to send?
If it is the latter, then this might help.

Sorry if that was not what you were searching for. Good luck.
Samsung has a network configuration app in their section of the Marketplace. Actually, I think they have two, one for second-gen phones (like your girlfriend's) and one for gen1 phones. If you use the app, it should be possible to configure your phone's MMS APN (which is often different from the data APN) using that. I know that Simple Mobile is in the list for the equivalent HTC app...
If that doesn't work, it *is* possible to change the configuration manually, but it will require some hackery. Has the phone been interop-unlocked (using WindowBreak, most likely)? I don't know what the correct provisioning info for Simple Mobile is, but I could probably pull it out of my HD7 if I had to.

How to turn an old phone into tablet/skype device for kid?

I have an old HTC Evo Design 4G phone (Boost Mobile) that I no longer use. Is there a way to turn it into a tablet like device with lets say Skype via wi-fi? No need for an actual phone capability because I will never reactivate service on this phone. I could give something like that to my kid to play around with. If there is a wi-fi, he could use it with Skype or some internet messenger. The only caveat is that the current software (stock rom) doesn't work well and I would have to flash it with something else (custom rom). Unfortunately, the old guides are full of old and non-working links. Any easier way to reuse old phone for something that's kid-friendly?

Wifi-Direct with another phones

Hello. Recently I was trying to use Wi-Fi direct to transmit data to my Lg g2. I manually paired the devices from Settings menu then I selected a file-share-wifidirect and.... nothing! It showed me an empty screen with a Search For Devices button and in a few seconds responded with a message popup "Data transmission via Wi-Direct must be performed with another huawei device at the moment". WTF? Why? Is Wi-fi direct something huawei specific? I do not think so. The odd thing is that LG also allows to pair devices but does not give you a possibility to send data via Wi-Fi Direct forcing you to use SmartShare Beam which is LG-only technology. Why manufacturers are so stupid, they state their product has some technolohy but it's actually unusable! I do not wan't 2 huawei devices and I do not want 2 LG devices! On the other hand my old samsung s3 hanles it in a proper way, I was able to send files from it to both aforementioned devices using Wi-Fi Direct.
I know I can install SuperBeam to deal with my problem but it's inconvenient to install it on every device you want to transmit data to. So I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem. Also my ROM is a bit old, something like b121(I have MT7-L10 version) so I wonder maybe they have already fixed it in some newer ROM especially the lates ones with Lolipop. If so I will try to install that rom. Thank you.
