Pantech Duo...WTF??? - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

ok, so i've been gone from WM for a bit (tried the iphone for a bit, and it was fun for a while but it lacked too many features), and now i'm looking into getting a couple of new phones to replace the iphone and the t-mobile mda(wizard200). i've already ordered a HTC s630 and have been lookin at the pantech dou. Now my first problem is i can't seem to find any similarities between it and anything on xda-developers, so what is it and has it been modded? and how do i unlock it (if at all possible)

The ole upgrade...

I current have a old Sony Erickson...gay...and a Cingular 3125...love it...when it stays on
Im getting my upgrade....like im elgible now...
I want a smart phone...here is my list
ATT 8525 129.99 Refurb
BB Curve 99.99 Refurb
Palm Centrino 99.99
Palm 750 199.99
Palm 680 149.99
I am only 16....text addict...so i want good texting...My friend has a palm 680(that was supposed to be mine) and i love the threaded text/chat freature that it has. So i found an app for wm5/6 that can do the same. I want to mod my device..so that gives a lean to wm. I like wm b/c of the similarity to my computer. BB seem to be very stable compared to the wm devices. and i hear palm has an outdated os...but thats pretty irrelevant to my life...lol. But the 8525 has wifi...and i would love to have that...but which route would yall go?
anybody...i need some opinions...
Those are pretty much the same phones I looked at when deciding what to buy.
My thoughts were, Blackberry - add on software to expensive and little of it.
Palm OS, Not multitasking
Treo with Windows Mobile, ok, but I have large hands and keyboard kinda small.
HTC 8525, my choice. Best of all worlds. Not perfect, but close for me.
My son just got a blackberry perl, and he loves it. Does lots of texting, but keeps asking me where he can get the games and stuff I have on my 8525. Most aren't even available.
I text quite a bit too, but not like my son, and most of the time I don't open the keyboard to do it. I use a program called Calligrapher, and just write on the screen and have it converted to text. Works great.
Final choice is up to you. Go to a few of the stores in the area, and see how each device feels in your hands. That will help you make the best decision.
Good Luck.
Thanks...and can somebody explain to me how to mod this device...because i just want to put a couple of apps on it..maybe a few games and such...nothing major...i wanted to do some iphone similar interfacing mods...but i probably wont.
so can somebody explain how to upgrade to wm6...and what all this ROM stuff means to me and the performance and customizability of the device?
anyone else
Installing apps and games is very easy. You have 2 basic methods, you can download a cab file directly to the phone and install from there or download a windows installer and install to your phone from the PC through the activesync connection. Most of the applications or interface customizations you talked about would be done in one of these two manors.
Upgrading your device from WM5 to 6 will require to to flash a new rom on the phone. You have many options to choose from when picking a new rom. You can use the generic version from HTC, or go with one of the many custom cooked roms on this site. You just have to read each of the threads for each of the roms to see the pros and cons of each. Just like the phones, there is no perfect choice and you are the only one who can decide which rom is right for you.
These phones can be as easy or as complicated as you want them to be. If this is all new to you, try starting off with the Generic HTC rom, or the official WM6 rom from your carrier, if one exists.
To get started, read the wiki for the hermes and start reading the posts in the hermes forums, and as always, ask questions, but try searching first.
Hope this helps!
anymore opinions as i am very close to my purchase...

Pantech Duo C810

Being a complete noob in the smartphone arena, I would like to know what ROM's? are compatible with my phone.
I was parusing the site and ran this one (see link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380991&highlight=pantech
Is this compatible with my pantech duo c810?
If not, how about pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks
Unfortunately, none of the ROMs you'll find here will work on the Pantech C810, or any Pantech phone for that matter. Problem is, they havent found a way to allow the phone to load any ROMs other than the ones that come from either Pantech or AT&T. What you can do is customize the hell outa the phone by hand, but it isn't easy. Hopefully, someone will find out how to bust open the phone and we can have our way with the ROMs, but until then, its hand fixes for those of us who still have too much student loan debt to afford awesome phones.
I bought this phone for my sister a few months back thinking that I would have been able to tweak it like i do my kaiser. Hope they finally do crack this thing, its actually a pretty kickass phone. Dont be ashamed, its still better than a razr...

hey guys, new here and wanted to ask your opinions

ok so here's the thing, i have an upgrade on sprint and am deciding between the touch pro 2, the hero and the samsung moment. the only reason i really like the hero is because of sense. but if if someone here knows how to get sense on the moment i would snap it up immediately.
however the touch pro 2 looks amazing with the big screen and that awesome keyboard. not to mention i looked around on the forums last couple of days and have seen all the crazy stuff for windows mobile with cooked roms and stuff. not to mention u guys have android on WM so yeah.
i'm coming from a pre, and was part of the first homebrewers so i doubt i'll have to much trouble with modding or rooting the WM or android phones. i dealt with alot of coding with the pre and it was a bit of a pain but enlightening.
so i'm just wondering what u TP2 and Hero users have to say. and if anybody can answer about getting sense ui on the moment that would be great.
tl;dr what should i get Hero, TP2 or Moment.

My advice...
Drop the Moment...
Go with a TP2. They are working on porting Android for this and will not be long before you can see a port with Sense on the TP2 (if there isn't one already).
Hope this helps.
so any other responses? or opinions.
Go for the TP2 which as mentioned has many cool stuff & more in development. Very reliable with a nice screen!
But if U want the cool Android stuff now, then of course it's the Hero...
so about the TP2 does it run sense like the hd2 or touchflo? and where do i go to get all the cool stuff for it, anywhere specific.

Which phone to buy or not to buy

Ok so i have been an HTC guy for a while now but due to some customer service issues and my lack of excitement surrounding WinMo, i am looking for a new phone.
I have had most recently the Touch HD from HTC and now I have the branded TP2. I love my TP2 but its constantly crashing and i know Win7 is on the way and all kinds of new Android goodies as well.
NOW
my issue is this, i have looked all over the net and seen all types of phones but im not sure what i should look for next.
Is there anything coming that anyone knows of that is worth waiting for?
I have seen the Windows 7 phone due out next month, but its missing an entire row of keys that my TP2 has and I think i kinda like the number row on my qwerty so i think that phone is out. I like the Desire Z but same issue there as well.
Is there anything coming from another vendor maybe with Android that has a keyboard on it? What about the Nokia phones, the resolution is not as good but what about the phones?
I just hate to spend a load of $ like i have in the past on these UK versions of the phones only for them to suck like 6 months later.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
**Also some internal memory would be nice as well
**I also need to use the phone in the UK so the Droid stuff is not usable
thanks

[Q] Up to date opinions wanted: Tmobile G2 vs Vibrant

First a little intro, skip this paragraph if you just care about the question. I've been a lurker since 2009 (2 years ago, contracts ) and I hate that this be my first post, it seems noobish and lazy, but I am stuck. I am coming from the AT&T HTC Fuze (raphael) with WinMo 6.5 Energy ROM. I absolutely love/loved this phone, it has been great but it is definitely out dated.
I am looking at the HTC G2 and the Samsung Vibrant for Tmobile. I have done my research and it seems that for most people it comes down to the physical keyboard or the AMOLED screen but neither of these are deal breakers for me. What I am looking for in a phone is basically a speedy browser and interface. I have been looking through the Vibrant and DZ/G2 forums and I'm a little confused as to what is available for the G2 and what is only for the DZ. I know that there are multiple good ROM's for the Vibrant, are there equivalent ROM's for the G2? The main question is, based on current conditions with available ROM's for each, which would be the better phone to go with in your opinion.
Thanks for the help.
