All - I have a question. If you have regenerating tasks in outlook, do they sync to your phone?
Thanks in advance.
i would suspect that they do, but why don't you just try it?
They dont for me which is why I would someone else to confirm.
I use Outlook '07, and it works for me, just to make sure, you are talking about recurring tasks, right?
Recurring tasks works fine, auto regenerate tasks is where Im having problems. I also use Outlook 07 but I this used to happen with my 03 as well.
I'm not exactly understanding what you mean by "auto regenerate" tasks. Could you be more specific?
So in outlook, create a new task, and click on the Recurrance button.
On that popup you will see "Recur _ week(s)"... under that you will see "Regenerate new task _ week(s) after each task is completed". If you select that, your task will not be shown on your phone.
Hmmmmm...never even knew that was there! Just from a guess, until Outlook itself regenerates the task, it won't be shown. Or is it already regenerated?
The task is generated with the due date you specify. Once completed, it regenerates.

Right, but is the problem with your device not regenerating it?
It should happen like this:
Complete task (Device) > Sync completion with Outlook > Outlook regenerates > Outlook syncs new task to device
Regenerating Task Support in Pocket Informant
It is possible to have regenerating tasks on a WM device using Pocket Informant, although they are not able to be synced with Outlook, ie the version that appears in Outlook is not regenerating.
I was actually wondering if anyone has written a simple application just for handling regenerating tasks. PI has a lot of overhead, and since I use it principally for the regenerating tasks I would like to free up memory and resources by using a dedicated app instead.
This is ****ing crazy. Every damn day I find another thing that Microsoft has screwed up in their products.
Dont they use their own products?!?!?! How could this be in every single version of windows mobile since the dawn of time and not be fixed?!?!??????
I have a task with a due date and a reminder set for today. IT is programmed to automatically regenerate 1 day after its completed.
So yesterday, on my phone the alert goes off. Great!! I mark it complete and go on with my life. Today ... it was supposed to remind me at the same exact time with the same reminder. Did it ? No. The task remains COMPLETED in my outlook, the recurrence I had programmed did not happen, and I'm clueless as to why.
I really ****ing hate microsoft and I will not put up with this **** anymore. Cant wait to get an iphone
Still sitting here over a year later with the same damn problem.

Not only do they screw up with this feature .. because apparently not one employee in the entire microsoft company uses their own products with the regenerate task feature.... but they also screw up the FIXING of this feature .. AND can't even just admit publicly that this is a bug / known problem. I would love a fix but I would also love to win the lottery , and probably have the same chance at obtaining both.
I HATE MICROSOFT
I recently bought the Touch Pro (my first WM device after using Palm for years), and I am happy with most of it. What I just do not understand is why the calendar is so limited. You can merely view the month and scroll through months. To actually view appointments or change them you have to open the calendar app. This is totally ridiculous! The calendar screen should be the interface to reading your appointments and interacting with them. I have searched the forums to see if anyone has added this capability but have found nothing. I would be happy to pay for a PIM that truly integrated with the TouchFlo screen. I appreciate the modifications that you guys have done to the appearance (changing dates, adding themes etc), but I do not understand why someone cannot modify the calendar page so it shows the live calendar app as it were. If someone has done this and I have not found it, then sorry for making this comment - please direct me to it. If this cannot be done, then there has to be a better launcher than TouchFlo out there, and I would appreciate someone directing me to it.
With thanks from a complete beginner...
The app you need to replace the calendar with one of your own in TF3D is here:

I too have used Palm and Agendus for many years.
I tried Agendus on WM but was very disappointed at the performance.
I am now using Pocket Informant.
Thanks for this. I successfully ran the program and now when I click on the word 'Calendar' on the home page, PocketInformant opens (thanks for the tip, taninu, it looks really good).
But this is not really what I meant. On my Touch Pro, I have a tab which displays a static calendar (if I edit using DiamondTFD, it is called 'unknown' so maybe this is not standard in Europe?). It is this calendar that I would like to display PocketInformant. I noted the below post, which I wonder is maybe referring to the same question? In any case, do others have that calendar tab? (same level as home, people, weather, MP3, mail, internet, call history, SMS, settings, programs, photos - 12 in all).

Can't wait for your next release.
I was searching now 2 days for it. Finally I found that the element-management is damn hardcoded:
- 1 AlldayElement
- 1 CurrentElement
- 1 NextElement
Patching smt like this is some level too high for me.. I'm sorry..
In my HTC TD's "Tasks" application I have tons of completed tasks making the applictaion almost useless. How can I delete/purge these?
I have looked trough all the menu's I could find, and searched this board and googled different search-terms, but I cannot find the howto.
I'm sure it's quite easy once you know how?
There is an option to filter completed tasks. Press the right softkey and scroll down. The option is there.
I just tab and hold in the normal task app
it's in the contex menu
or I mark a task and choose delete from the menu
of cause maybe you're not talking about the normal
std task app

Thanks - that works, but with 2-300 completed tasks I'd like to find a way to delete all the completed tasks (and appointments in my calendar) in one go. I seem to recall a "purge" function somewhere - but perhaps I'm confusing it with my old Treo 650?
I had this problem a while ago, I think it had something to do with Activesync changing the way it worked, I had an old Dell Axim and used the task function, but I'm fairly sure it there was an option not to resync the completed task back to the device once 'Completed', so if I created a task it stayed active on both my PC and PDA, then if I checked it as 'Completed' on my pda (or PC) it removed it from my pda and it just sat hidden in Outlook...
...then I upgraded to an XDA Orbit and also updated Activesync, once they had all sync'd I found the tasks application on the XDA to be slow to the level of being useless, I found it now had all my tasks active and completed, I think it was in the region of 900 tasks!
Simple solution was to filter them in Outlook (PC) and just delete them, solved that problem.
I have a HTC Desire with Froyo
Question 1
The task manger always shows a couple of tasks running:
Advanced Task Killer Free
Facebook
Twitter
News and Weather
Fring
Lookout
and it consumes upto 200 M of RAM
how should i do to not have those tasks running?
Question 2
Is it possible to either make folders to have a better overview of apps
or
Like iPhone i can have multiple windows i can scroll to
Question 3
I have set-up multiple tasks on calendar and i want them to be repeated every other Monday.
As far as i can see there is no option for that. There is however an option to repeat a task every Monday.
Can you guys give me clue how to go around this issue?
It synchronizes notes, tasks, contacts, and calendar with Microsoft Outlook 2007 or greater (for Android 2.2 or greater) and also files and directories via WiFi.
Android market link
Android application consists of:
Notes application
Tasks application
Application for managing categories
Task widget 4x1
Task widget 2x2
Sync facilities and configuration screens
This software development is now forked in 2 versions - 2.x and 3.x. 3.x version (tablets) has modified UI - holographic theme. It is multi apk, so correct version is automatically downloaded from Android Market.
This application is real freeware - i.e. is free of charge and without advertising.
Send me please as private message what device and what ROM are you using and if it works or not, I will update list here, thanks.
Some screens
Would somebody be willing to test gingerbread calendar synchronizaton, I looked at source code and it looks the same but I would like to test that it is working correctly.
Is Outlook required?
Yes, Outlook 2007 or 2010.
Moved it to market.

Sorry, where?
cz.psencik.simple
Q: is there a Due Today fildter (overdue + due today)?
A: Will do
Q: Can I filter by category?
A: No, maybe will do.
Q: Can I sync calendar in a specific date frame only (now it syncs all calendar items) ?
A: No
Q: Can I not sync completed tasks?
A: No, similar features were present millions years ago when devices had limited memory, I want to have everything in phone. You can move those tasks to different folder/archive in Outlook now.
Q: Contacts don't show after sync.
A: What phone, you must enable Local Sync account in Contacts application (open Contacts, Menu, Display options, check Local Sync All Contacts) - btw it is described in "manual"
Could this thread be moved to different forum where new users can post?

Hi Ondřej,
Thanks a lot for your answers. This really helped. Also do you think it may be a good enhancement if the app can sort tasks by two fields? (for example by Due Date and then by Priority)
Thanks,
Sergey

Hi Sergey, I think it may be a good enhancement. Will do it likely.
great,i love it ! does it have italian language ?
i also loved it! =)
thanks,
unfortunatelly I do not speak Italian, so there is no Italian language. I can post language files somewhere and you can translate it for yourself.
I relased update with some of Sergey's requirements.
Wow!!
I regret I haven't found it before - testing it right now and it looks really very impressive.
I also have installed AutoSync Account Activator.
I'll be syncing Calendar and Contacts via corporate push through Email.apk (with fixed 60mA drain in no-data/flight mode) - but was missing Notes.
And it's convenient to have your Simple Note and Task apps - both are cool!
In short, your solution deserves much more publicity!! Everything seems to work OK, but some questions for explanation:
* the PC Local Sync app - does it have to be running? or is it just to provide info. Pressing X seems to kill it, but the process seem to remain active.
* BTW, I see more than 1 LocalSync.exe process, is this correct? or is it due to running again PC Local Sync after closing it with X?
* the pairing is defined by IP number. what happens if my notebook is automatically assigned another IP number on next boot - do I have to adjust the address manually? will the app know it is actually the same pairing, or will it try to define a new one (all settings again)? could it be searched by name in the local pool 192.168.x.x?
cheers,
1. PC Local Sync app - if you shuthdown in via X it should shutddown (after while), if not it is bug - you can kill it with task manager.
2. You should not see more local sync processes, it means that something is hung (kill with task manager). Note - if you minimize app it is in tray, still running.
I will take a look at desktop application to improve this :/ It is masively multithreaded so some thread is probably hanging (however I did not have experience this much, is it WiFi or Usb sync?)
3. If computer changes IP address (you can use hostname too), you can change it by pressing button with link icon in that pair configuration - so settings will be kept.
If you delete pairing all sync data are removed indeed and you do not want that because it would have to resynchronize (can take hours if you have tens of thousands items in Outlook).
Thanks for clarifications.
re: PC LocalSync
Seems like all is good, X closes the app and also process. Minimizing puts it in tray. Just running it twice produces 2 processes ...
It seems the app does not need to run for syncing - is it just for info and monitoring? or does it have to run in order to sync items?
(If it is needed it'd be better if X just minimized it, to avoid closing by accident ...)
1 minor issue is that I have 2 Outlook profiles set up for manual selection at start-up - if I start Localsync before starting Outlook, it tries to start Outlook but your initial LocalSync logo hangs on top of the profile selection blocking it (can't be moved)
re: changing IP (this is a nuisance)
I guess you mean running Localsync on my HD2, then pressing adress/machine name at the top, then second icon at the bottom, next to Save, then edit address and re-pair? still not too convenient.
Trying to use hostname I get Error: UnknownHostException: <hostname>. What am I missing? Hope we can resolve this, I'd be very happy ...
BTW, tested USB sync and all is well, but I would prefer to keep it as option for syncing outside my home network only, I'm constantly on Wifi at home.
cheers,
PC application is important, it is server which exposes Outlook to android. Do not start it multiple times, it does not matter because it starts on other port, but it is not useful.
I did not test app with mutliple profiles, I will have to improve it in this area to avoid data loss (if you sync one profile, switch profile, sync then you will probably loose data).
In order to use host name, you must configure DHCP/DNS in your routers, I tried it now and it works with name then. I am using also fixed ip addresses for particular devices (where possible).
many thanks, forgot about my router config . I assigned a fixed IP to my notebook and all should be well - I should have automatic synchronization of my notes, tasks and files whenever I'm at home.
Outlook profiles is not a big issue for me, as the only difference between them are additional private mail accounts (which cause some problems while at work), data is the same. Still, you may make preparations for more sophisticated users...
So the only minor issues you can think of improving are:
* allow changing Outlook profiles if PC LocalSync starts before Outloook,
* make it more difficult to close PC LocalSync inadvertently (X minimizing not closing; separate Exit)
As mentioned, I'm push syncing Calendar and Contacts via Email.apk, and not using Tasks much - so can't help testing them.
But once again congratulations on very good apps - I'll be recommending them!!
One problem is the thread title is not mentioning local Outlook synchronization at all, so people might be missing it - I would say Note and Task apps (both very nice) are rather in addition ... unless you depend on Market exposure ...
thanks,
Thanks, I updated title. The app original name was Simple Sync but I discovered that this name is trademarked so I renamed it to Local Sync. And originally it did not have so many functions as it has now.
I am syncing exchange with this (calendar) because I do not like policy pushed by Exchange.
There can be only issue with Contacts, because manufacturers are doing proprietary changes in contacts app. But it should work on base Android, Htc and Samsung.
