I hate that notification because I use my phone for my alarm and it lights up in the middle of the night. Has anybody figured out a way to turn that notification off? I have looked and not found anything on the phone or in the forums.
If you can't find a way to suppress the notification, do what I do...turn the phone over. If you don't have the Body Glove case that lifts the screen off the furniture and are concerned about scratches, put it on a paper towel or similar item to protect it. I use a wash cloth.
would also like to know how to turn that stupid notification off - software based and not using a towel though
I don't know much yet but I was digging around in root explorer and if you go to /system/media there are a bunch of .qmg files for battery related stuff, and two of them are named chargingwarning.qmg and Disconnected.qmg. Could one of these be the file for the fully charged notification?

Probably not because the notifications are all text, and QMGs are the 3d files used at boot-up. Most likely those animations are used in the battery meter that is displayed when the phone is off (turn your phone off and plug it in).
This won't help with the light, but the sound can be fixed.

seriously? we are all STILL dealing with this? has anyone found a solution to prevent this notification from popping up?

It is confirmed fix in the 2.2 release - at least the JI6 build we are all playing with. They moved it to the notification bar.
Bumpage!
Been a lurker but just recently got my Captivate. Great forum here! Looking forward to contribute as well.
Well my issue with the "Fully Charged" battery notification is the display will stay on for the entire night. When I wake up in the morning, I see the phone's display on with the notification. Is this normal? I think this was happening just recently but I can't remember. Shouldn't the display turn off after the set amount time of inactivity? Thanks.
Nevermind, I figured it out. Within the development settings, the option to never allow the phone to sleep while plugged into the usb was checked. I wonder why that was checked.

Ok, I THOUGH disabling that option would put the display to sleep when the notification comes on but it doesn't. =(
Is this normal behavior? The screen stays lit after the notification is on? The only reason why i'm concern is if I'm plugging it in night after night and it's on that particular screen for hours at a time, there might be some burn in issues.

Not likely. It's not a rear projection tv or a CRT monitor. Burn-in problems died with those.

Guess you haven't seen some of the demo Captivate at your local AT&T stores. Seeing the burned in images on those beautiful SAMOLED screen just kills a little bit of me.
In any case, so it's normal for the screen to take on after the message notification comes on?

None of the models I saw had burn-in at all. I got my phone on August 30th of this year. The phone had been on the shelves since July. But I would imagine it's normal for the screen to come on.
I got my phone only three weeks ago, so the phone sitting on display has probably been there a long time. And yeah, samoled screen can get burned in. well guess I'll have to charge it during the day time for now until I can figure out a way to disable the pop up.
Oh my worry is that the screen might be in the on state with the same image for hours while I sleep. That's something I can't leave to chance.

As long as you're not using a Samsung Dock or have the Stay Awake option checked off in settings, it won't stay on. I watch my phone every night. It usually finishes charging long before I ever go to sleep (case in point, it's 3:11am, and the phone was done around 1am) and the screen always times out and turns itself off. It doesn't come back on either.

Ok, yeah that's what I figured. Thanks for confirming it for me. I do have that option "not checked". Something might be preventing it to fall back asleep.
Is there any log within the file system which might keep track of system events? I might have to do a little digging around.
Thanks for your input.

I don't believe there's any logs, but you might have some luck installing logcat from the market and checking that after one night

Charged notification PROBLEM SOLVED !
PROBLEM SOLVED ! NO COST !
I saw this suggestion in another forum and it WORKS, so I'm passing it on !
Set the global notifications to SILENT.
Set the notification on Gmail to any ringtone, NOT DEFAULT.
Set the notification on messaging to any ringtone, NOT DEFAULT.
You'll still have a tone when you 1st plug the phone in to the charger, but NO tone when it's fully charged.
Where are these settings? I can't find them any where.
another great feature. especially if that pesky full nights sleep is bothering you. Samsung are you just testing us?
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Mine doesn't, I don't have haptic feedback on. I wonder if that is why?

I didn't notice the vibrate, but...
My Captivate hangs on its charging cord from a low outlet, and I keep it in my bedroom. At about 3AM, I experienced what it would be like to have an AMOLED night-light.
(When it finished charging, it turned its screen on to tell me and the screen was bright enough to light up the entire room and wake me from a relatively deep sleep.)
I've had it charging beside me and knowing the phone is off you aren't expecting anything from it....scared the sh*t outta me twice now, lol.
When the captivate is fully charged does it have a popup that asks you to remove it from the charger along with the alert?

yep... is there a way to disable this?
I am working on a way for the vibrant and just wanted to see if the captivate was the same. Once I figure it out more it should be able to be made for both. Here is the link to my alpha tests. You can try it if you like but I make no guarantees as to how it will affect the captivate. Make sure you have a nandroid backup if you do try it, also let me know what happens. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748400
Thanks I'll wait until you get it QA'd.
BTW I figured out a (crappy) compromise, I use CT Scheduler from Market to turn phone off after 11PM. Free app. Not because I'm cheap but I have been spending quite a bit of money on pay apps lately and I like to try things different from the herd so not going with locale.
But anyway, this is a total fail workaround because it would be ideal to have the phone stay on all night, but in vibrate, so if someone does need to reach me in the middle of the night the phone lights up, vibrates, and wakes me up so I can take the call.

I tested your theory.
Phone OFF, Haptic OFF, vibey-vibey = YES
Phone ON, Haptic is OFF vibey-vibey = NO just a big bright room illuminating shock in the night when it turns the screen on to let you know it is charged.
Aha! So then a short term solution is to cover the phone with something, or place it display down? Until someone figures this out, that is.
Hi all. Since updating to 2.3.5 my screen randomly lights up. The phone will be just sitting on the table, next to bed etc and the screen will light up for a few seconds and the turn off.
Not been on a stock ROM in a while, but I do remember hearing about this problem when the update rolled out. Just can’t remember if the problem was solved. Had a quick search and no joy. I'll keep looking. I have a theory though...
I had this problem once, and it was down to an app and the WiFi sleep policy. The WiFi sleep policy was set to ’15 minutes’ so the app was occasionally forcing a wake-lock to stop the WiFi from shutting off. This would also cause the screen to come on briefly. Could it be something like that? Sorry I can’t remember what the app was. Try leaving WiFi off and see if that stops it. If not successful try leaving auto-sync off. It will at least rule out or confirm something trying to force a wake-lock to sync something.
Edit: Does this do it only when on charge? Try opening up Car Dock Mode, and turning off 'Auto Launch'.

I noticed this too, but only on a Sense 3.5 ROM...Endymion (because, frankly, i didn't care much about any other Sense ROM to stay on it long enough to notice anything) ...but for me, the screen only lit up like a camera flash, just for a fraction of a second! not for a couple of seonds as you have experienced. Been on ICS betas, and RCs and currently on Reaper, but this issue never repeated itself. So far, this has happened to me only on a Sense 3.5 ROM...and my setup, sync frequency, installed apps hardly ever varies from ROM to ROM...I'm pretty consistent about how i like to use my phone.
And frankly, even when this was happening, i didn't bother much because it wasn't affecting performance or battery life... Sense is quirky, to say the least, but i've learnt to tolerate it like you would a sexy girlfriend. If it's sexy enough, it can get away with anything!!
I had this issue on the stock 2.3.3 ROM.

Same here with MIUI... Just for a 1/10 of a second...
...via Tapatalk
I get this on ICS (virtuos quattro) when screen is off and charging, like half a second on and off again...
i've had this issue with pretty much every ROM, actually had it since i've had the phone. The phone lights up for a quick second. Enough for you to realise when your eyes are closed. i don't pay much attention to it anymore. But i don't think mine lasts seconds like yours. Mine was just a blank screen flashing

Hi guys, Im the dev of an app that will allow you to send your Note to sleep when you shut its case. The PR is after the break.
Now that we have three high end tablets with proximity sensors (Note, 7+ and 7.7) its time we did some testing to see what sensitivities we should set in the app by default.
Please help us out with this. Simply download the free app, mess around with proximity settings until they work and report back what lever (in %) you needed.
Note that the current auto-selection prompt will only enable the light sensor if you pick "Tablet" in the first run dialog. You will need to turn the proximity detection on manually in the app's settings, as your tablets actually have this sensor!
Thanks in advance, and i hope you like the app
--------------------------------
Power Switch:
Power Switch is a tool for devices with cases - somewhat like the SmartCover, it will turn off the screen when you shut the case. If you have a device with poor
battery life, Power Switch can save tons of juice by switching it off entirely after a given amount of time asleep.
The app works best on phones using the proximity sensor. On tablets, the light sensor is the most efficient method of knowing that the case has been closed.
Features:
- Sleep seconds after shutting case
- Automatic shutdown (rooted devices only)
- Set up a schedule using Night Mode
- Configure sensor sensitivity
- Facedown to turn screen off
- Persistent notification
- Plays sound to let you know that the screen has turned off
The app has gone through an extensive testing process here at XDA under another name. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen, you're the best!
Remember to adjust the light sensor sensitivity settings in a light environment for best performance, and use Night Mode if you are on a tablet with a poor ambient light sensor.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please use this thread or the in-app feedback tool. Please be aware that we ignore logs without descriptions.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.powerswitch.demo
The Lite version of the app is exactly the same as the Pro, only the timers are restricted to a minimum of twelve seconds.

What the hell is deep sleep friendly?
It works like pressing the power button, except it uses the sensors.
Now, please, lets get back on topic, read the OP!
He means does the app stop the phone from going into deep sleep, therefore using more battery. I've been using it for a few days and i think that it does affect the deep sleep as mine is at 200mhz most of the time now.
I think that the app works well with the original flip cover and the audible notice is a nice touch
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
No, in android sleep is sleep. All apps will shut down unless they have a push service. The sensors will also shut down.
Basically all the app does is press the power button for you, nothing else.
I'll have to investigate and see what's keeping it awake then

I have posted same issue somewhere else. But when i have used both sensor Proximity + Light, it was worked for Me.
battery hog?
I am using it, and it seems to work OK apart from some false positives when browsing in landscape. The 'go away until next screen off' is a good option!
I am finding it is taking quite a significant %age of battery, however. Not killing the phone, but 5% when my screen is only at 18% (a light-use day).
Anything that is going to hog 5% of my precious battery is going to be looking nervously at the door. I'll try it some different use scenarios, but I think I'll just settle for the 1 min time-out. Really, if I am not doing anything with my Note for a minute, I've either fallen asleep or put it down!
1.1.4
Added option to disable in landscape
Fixed issue with switching Night mode
Fixed many device specific bugs (Tab 7.7, 8.9, 10.1)

Yes, this does not affect sleep at all - it only puts to sleep, not wakes.

Got a problem when using Google maps for navigation with the screen dimming and then after about a minute the screen switches off completely, am I missing a setting somewhere to stop this happening? Thanks
Sent from my Sony Z5 ooossshhhh
Are you rooted?
No man totally stock, can you sort it if your rooted? Ta
Sent from my Sony Z5 ooossshhhh
No, i just wondered if you'd disabled some of its permissions using root. It's supposed to dim to save battery if you're just on a long straight road etc. Then when it comes to saying directions again and junctions it should light back up to normal
Ah ok thanks it dims fine but then the screen goes off...
Sent from my Sony Z5 ooossshhhh
Have you tried simply clearing the apps data and cache, force stopping it and then rebooting the phone before opening again?
Edit-
I'm just about to set off for work and gonna use maps actually so I'll see what mine does as I'm unsure I've actually used it on my z5 yet
Mine works as normal, tried and tested
Thanks mate I'll remove / re install and give it a try this morning

Getting somewhere still not as it should be though..
Got a stereo in my car that supposed to support android mirrorlink (it doesn't work) but what it does do is charge just like a mains charger, anyway what i've found when the stereo is in mirrorlink mode it switches the phone screen off, when i take the stereo out of mirrorlink mode the phone screen stays on, it is however really really dim just about visible i tried without the cable charging at all and still the same...
Thanks for the suggestions though if i can figure out how to have it not go so dim it'll be fine... (i would say it goes down to maybe 10% screen brightness maybe even less)
So as soon as you use maps to navigate whether it's on charge or not the screen just goes stupidly dim?
What about ticking the stay awake box and have it charging?

Yeah after about 10sec the screen goes really dim and stays like that...
Tried your above suggestion yesterday (thought it might work too) doesn't make any difference, i have ambient setting enabled in the phone settings i'll try disabling that on the way home see if that makes a difference and do some googling later on, cheers though...
Crazy thought, your case or car holder isn't simply just covering up the light sensor is it?
Well I'm confused but the issue is sorted turned adaptive brightness setting off screen was perfect, so 5min later turned adaptive brightness back on expecting screen to dim it didn't so no idea but seems sorted #bangheadonwall
