I am considering buying the o2 XDA orbit but there have been comments re the processor being a bit slow. However the alternatives ie.the argon seems to be larger and not readily available and I am not sure whether it is a direct replacement.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative on the way, bearing in mind that if I get the Orbit it will most probably be on an 18 month contract. Is it worth waiting or will the orbit be good enough for now.
Neil
I'm not sure if this will help at all but I've kind of been in the same situation and I guess it depends on what you want out of your device...
I've had the Jamin on o2 for the past 12 months and have been happy with it so I'm upgrading to the Orbit for at least another 12months as soon as possible.
I've looked at everything else available and the Orbit is the safest bet for now for what I want. (Small, good looking, easy to use, good feature set without any naff gimmicks).
WM6 should be out for it before long with any luck as well so it's certainly nowhere near outdated yet.
Also in all my internet scouring over the past couple of weeks, I've not came across any new devices in development that are due out any time soon or are similar to the Orbit. I would be interested, like you, to see if anyone else has though.
There was actually a 'non pocket-pc' device that caught my attention when I was looking at what's available at the moment, something I had to consider because of what it has to offer - The Nokia N95, which on paper looks great...but it would be a big change for me!, it's a bit bulky, some of the reviews haven't been that great & I really don't like the 'media centre' style gimmicks these phones seem to have because by personal preference, that's not really what I want my device for...
Orbit or wait
Hi
Thanks for that. The N95 was the alternative I was looking at having had the N80 for 12 months, however the outlook side and the direct push e-mail appeals as does the ability to download OS maps and use with the GPS looks handy on the bigger screen.
The Argon, the Trion and the Atom life are shown as alternatives which are brand new with faster processors and bigger memory but getting hold of one is something else.
Neil
Well it's getting hold of them and then there's the size & weight of them!
My ideal device would be something just like the Orbit but smaller & lighter still and with a better camera.
I'm still quite tempted by the N95,
Orbit or wait
I think it comes down to personal taste. I did not like the look and the feel of the N95 when I looked at it and preferred the bigger screen on the Orbit, also felt like a change from Nokia & Symbian OS.
Neil
I've been reading a lot of reviews on the N95 and I get the impression from the comments sections in the majority of them that there aren't many happy N95 users out there!
A lot seem to be unhappy about device restarts, the camera not being as good as they expected, battery life issues, sluggish OS, GPS connectivity problems & the actual handset not feeling very "solid" - I'm not just picking one or two comments either, - this seems to be the running theme,
In fact, it's difficult to find many positive comments on the N95, I get the feeling that first impressions are great but over time it's not all that it's being marketed as.
Orbit or wait
I think that it is most probably usual teething problems. I had the same issues with the N80 but most appear to have resolved themselves although it did take a few software updates.
I just find that although I use the camera a lot I prefer the photograhs taken by a camera so a 5 M camera is a waste to me.
And again I did not like the look and the feel.

Hi
I believe that the Argon is bigger than the orbit?
When will this become widely available?
Neil

According to customer service the argon is only on business tariffs and the best one the atom life is not going to be sold by o2 uk.
sucks
Neil
I agree with Tinnitus. Ive been an Exec user for the past 12 months on O2. My exec has bust just as my contract expires so Im in the market for a new phone on any network.
I prefer ActiveSync to the Nokia Synch tool, the hardware is reliable, easy to use and looks good.
(And the support on this forum is next to none).
Recommendation
I was in a similar situation where i had to decide to wait or go for the Orbit. I chose the latter and also purchased a 2 gig memory card to throw most things onto and free up most of the space, to be honest it works really well it doesnt seem slow and i have had no problems with any of the software. in fact when i came to reinstall the copilot i have to say that the after sales support for this product was exceptional and feel really glad that i went ahead. I did consider most other options even the ones they have in Germany but my Orbit and I are very happy, not sure if that will help any.
happy times
Orbit or wait
HI
Any thoughts re the Trion. I am considering this as an alternative purely because of the faster processor.
Has anybody any comments re playing movies via the media player??
Neil
Neil,
I tried playing a short AVI file (MJPG, 640x480 @30.00fps - 14552Kbps) and this was very choppy on the Trion.

Orbit or wait
Just to close of my section I have purchased the orbit and I am generally happy. I have not learnt all the features and push email only works with Exchange 2003, have checked properly, however seeing the amount of e-mails I get I would suggest that the phone would be permanently singing with the sound of e-mails arriving, so maybe not such a bad thing.
There are 1 or 2 hang ups which I will start in a new post which hopefully will sort these out.
Thanks for all your help.
Neil
There's a free utility called e-moze
http://www.emoze.com/
it can be worth a look if you are desperate for push e-mail, I use it at work.
Well, mines on it's way! Got it for £30 then £30 a month for 12 months on contract (should be able to drop that to 20 after 6 though with any luck), pretty much the same deal I had my Prophet on.
Prophet has just gone up on eBay.
Exciting times.
Hey ya'll. This is my first post, though I've been part of the community for a minute. I love this site and I love my gadgets!!
Anyway, I'm a musician/producer/artist. Iv'e never shot a music video in all my years of performing. But just the other day while I was taking a bus to Seattle I figured, "Hey, I have one of the best phones on the market and at least 1.5hrs of nothing to do...let's make a music video!!!"
Anyway, I do not know if anyone has ever tried to use the Fuze/Touch Pro in this fashion but...well, here's a link. The quality is actually pretty freaking cool looking, no one whose seen it believes I shot it with my phone. The quality is kind of lo-fi (but that's mainly because of the upload size) but it gives it a cool feel. Anyway check it out, its my first direct contribution to this forum:

So after looking at the Tilt 2 in AT&T, reading reviews, and watching youtube videos, I wanted to get the opinion of someone who actually knows what they're talking about: the guys over at XDA-Developers.
Many of the "iPhone lovers" criticized the lag on the Tilt 2 and the poor UI. Lag is one reason I'm upgrading from my Tilt. Its become riddled with problems and is too slow. I am really impressed with the improvements over the last couple years.
Whats your opinion on its:
-Lag
-Battery Life
-UI
-Is this the right phone for a busy, multitasking college student?
Thanks for your help!

Enter to Rhodium section so you can read what other users say about it.
Personally I find it a great device
And all your questions will depend on the usage and ROM you use.
Lag: Very small but it´s present
Battery life: I would expect more but you can always have a spare one
UI: It´s incredible I like it a lot!
Last question: If i were you I would go for Leo as you don´t really need a hardware keyboard I pressume. If you need a hardware keyboard (a must for me) then yes Rhodium is the best choice this days!!
I too have a Tilt that just got " out of contract " with AT$T. I have looked at and played with the Tilt 2. It is the next generation Tilt. All the great things that the Tilt has , the Tilt 2 has , Slide out keyboard , Tilt screen , does everything from music to video to M$ Office, but much like the Tilt, it does a little bit of everything but nothing particularly well.
I love my Tilt however, I am running stylez' Black Rom and have had zero problems, good speed and does enough of everything to be an indispensable business tool. When my main focus is surfing , playing videos or music, I have an iPhone. No phone does entertainment like an iPhone. But I could not even begin to run my business on an iPhone.
If you are looking for everything that was wrong with the Tilt to be fixed in the Tilt 2, you will be disappointed. It is faster, it comes with stock 6.5, has a really nice big sharp screen for surfing, but I would still take my Tilt , at least at this point , with a nice custom 6.1 rom over the Tilt 2.
I personally am hoping that AT$T comes out with a version of the HD 2 early next year. Now that is something that I would commit to another 2 years for.
I've looked about, has no-one made a thread about todays HTC London event?
It was in two parts, the main press event (I wasn't invited of course, thanks for MoDaCo for the commentary though) -
http://hemorrdroids.net/htc-london-press-event-finished/
And then the after party, which I did go to -

There's a video in this second link, get a look at the Desire Zed and a quick look at the HD.
Can't say I'm all that hyped on the Zed, but the HD looks very nice.
The HD is definitely a nice device, felt great in the hand, and I was really surprised that it wasn't much bigger than the Galaxy S even with its larger screen.
i went to the after party and agree the HD was the star of the show, impressed that it should offer increased speed through new cpu with larger cache and new gpu.
Greetings XDA! I've heard numerous stories about how the XDA community has helped random people across the internet. I am in need of some assistance. I have started a new tech channel called Ish Network on my YouTube channel. For the past 4 years I have dreamed of becoming one of those people who gets to review the latest and greatest gadgets the world of technology has to offer. I always watch channels like XDA Developers, Phone Arena, Unbox TherapyTechnoBuffalo, MKBHD, etc. I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. It is time to stop dreaming and take action. Before I appeal to companies around the world to lend me devices to review and play with while helping them market at the time, I need to gain a viewer base and subscriber base. Now I'm not asking everyone to subscribe and like my videos. If you truly love technology, please help a fellow geek out!
My first official video to kick off my new series is my Galaxy Note 4 Review. I would appreciate any comments, positive or negative (feedback is always valued). Thank you for helping me out!

You're basically asking us to review a review. Well, here's my opinion:
You did a pretty good job with the video, if this is your first.
Your voice sounds good, however some words are mispronounced and there were a few mistakes/points where you hesitated. Take more time to deliver a coherent and impeccable speech.
The video recording was decent, I liked the fact that you shot many angles of the phone. The problem here is with the stabilisation, the camera was shaking and sometimes out of focus. Again, you should take a little more time to set everything up accordingly.
You should not talk when you are testing the speaker because neither the music nor your voice is clear. You should review it saying something like this "let's move on to the speaker. Samsung went for a rear facing speaker this year. The sound is good/bad/loud/etc. as you can hear". After this brief introduction the music is to be played, so we can hear it and make our own opinion.
Edit: I think you ought to be a little more objective. I mean, sure, the note 4 is a great phone, no questions here, but it has flaws which should have been covered in the review. The rear facing speaker is not that good. There should be dual speakers facing the front, like those on HTC M8/M7. The fingerprint sensor is not as accurated as touchID. You get the point. Note that I'm not saying this is bad and you should quit, but you have to improve. The information is correct, the voice sounds great, the angles are great, just try to focus more on the small details. Use a tripod and take more time to get the camera focused.
