Opera Mini 4: How to change User Agent? - General Topics

I use ATT Tilt. How can I change Opera Mini 4 User Agent ID/String so I can view sites like yahoo like on my computer. The User Agent ID tells websites that I am using a pda so the sites automatically send their mobile versions instead of the real thing.
Thanks

You can't. I've posted a lot on this issue in the official Opera Mini forum; check out my posts.

Thanks for the reply but I found a solution after a few minutes of searching. I remembered using anonymous proxy surfing a few years ago. Right now, there are tons of them. Some free and some paid anon surfing sites. This one is free and hides the user agent string: http://www.guardster.com/subscription/proxy_free.php
Yahoo, gamespot, and others work great now with opera mini 4. Guardster anon doesn't get in the way too much since its a small strip on top of the page. load times are fast. one thing to remember though, you will get proxy error if you leave spaces after the url.
Bye.

try to type :
opera:config
in the URL field...
I know it work on Opera 8 and 9... but i don't know on the JAVA version...

doesn't work in opera:config

how do i set Opera Mini as default web browser?

as in, when i click on a link in google maps, i want it to browse with opera mini and NOT PIE
side question, whats the diff between opera mini and the full opera mobile?
other than the fact that i need to pay
thanks
Did you search or RTFM???
Launch Opera, then Menu-Tools-Settings-Misc-and place a check mark next to Set Opera as Default. Not too hard to do.
As far as your second question is concerned, I'd suggest www.opera.com.
Opera mini isn't as easy as that.

So sorry. I'm using Opera 8.65 for Windows Mobile. It was real easy to make it my default browser. I still think Searching is a good idea.
Sorry about the misunderstanding
There is Opera MINI and Opera MOBILE
for mobile i know how to set cuz it's an exe file
but since MINI is a java base file and requires a midlet, i had to ask for more advice on how to do it
and as i suspected
it's more complicated than i thought
Thanks for trying to help, though, kimtyson

Windows Mobile Web Browsers

Hi people,
I know of pocket explorer, and the opera release, but is there any other webbrowsers out there that are any good?
What i am looking for is something like the iphones safari. That would be nice
Pocket Explorer
Opera
Deepfish - damn shame this was never continued!
Cheers
Opera have 2 releases, you didn't mention which one you have. Opera Mobile is one of them but its not free, its good for tabbed browsing and downloads but personally i can't get along with it as it runs slow on my handset and often has script errors, plus struggles with desktop pages and uses alot of data. Opera Mini is the other one and i personally think its amazing. You can load up full web pages quickly and easily and it allows you to zoom in and out of the pages so you can view them like you would on your desktop. It uses very low amounts of data so its cheap to use, plus its free to download.
I personally use opera on my handset as it works well with windows, its the best thing so far anyway.
If your thinking of something more along the lines of the safari (iphone) experience, there is nothing at this time that matches it exactly, but there are similar programs you can get hold of that have been around a little while like Picsel Browser. Which can load up full pages (but cost you alot of data), and renders the pages pretty well, plus you can scroll with your finger and zoom in and out of pages without a stylus. I used to use this browser but i'm now totally hooked on Opera Mini.
I'm sure there are some other browsers out there but these two i mentioned are the only 2 i consider worth mentioning.
PS. Deepfish is similar to Opera mini, its optimises pages server side to make them smaller (data wise anyway), but i think opera have stollen the game from microsoft, thus them stopping any more work on the project, from what we can see anyway!
Hope this all helps btw

Personally I don't use opera mini, because it doesn't come for the htc p4350, i can run the generic, but I have to startup java first, then opera, and with every text area (including adress) it opens a new typing window..

That's the same way it works on my wing. However, as I'm browsing from a phone, I really don't have the highest of expectations for my browsing experience, and all things considered, opera mini is the best option I've found thus far.
how do i get picsel..

Look for Picsel browser, it works almost exactly as the iPhone safari, the zoom, the kinetic scrolling, all that stuff. Execpt it's made for only samsung phones so they don't make it availible for everybody. I have aa copy, but i don't think i can post it here. Type it in google, there a lot of them there. That's where i found mine. And by the way Picsel dosent just view web pages, it also views pictures, word, excel, pdf and powerpoint. Goodluck

Ever thought about the FTX browser or Webby?
well..guys i got the file..but havent test it yet..well..atleast not yet..lolz jus typed in Picsel Browser 1.0.5 download..nd got it ;D
I tried Piscel and it was very snazzy, however, it does have some site limitations so it looks like the pay version of opera is the way to go.

Phone call a number displayed in a browser

Hi folks,
searching my favourite Google-Oracle and this forum didn't brought me anything about my question (except my search parameters are stupid choosen)
Is there a way to call a phone-number which is displayed in your browser (PocketIE,Opera-Mini) with your PDA (e.g. htc artemis)?
Just like - selecting the phone-number and hit the call button. But I don't want to copy paste the number, which are some clicks too much!
The web page can be modified by me, I don't necessarily want to take public pages, but my own designed ones.
Thanks in advance.
Here we go again.
Hope this will raise some attention to this thread again. (The "General" Thread is very frequently used, but I guess that's the problem. Difficult problems like mine aren't answered)
So there are no ideas?
What a mess.
only such plugin i even seen on pc was the skype plugin for IE which ended up pretty much seeing all 6 and 8 diget nr's as phone numbers
as browsers on pda are much less mature
i suspect your best bet would be to manualy copy paste the number
Meanwhile in a German Forum i got this:
With Opera Mini 4 you can click on a phone number an will be asked if you want to dial or not.
Since Opera Mini 4 ist not my choice (no local adresses browseable and all Websites are first "prepared" over an Opera Server) I will be waiting for Opera Mobile 9.5.
Opera Mobile 9.5 will let you dial a phone number on a website.
However I hoped, that there was some HTML-Tags or anything else which can tell you on PocketIE to dial a number.
That is shame really, even Blackberry browser and Iphone's Nautilus let you dial number displayed on the web page...

Opera 9.5 doesn't let me post on VBScript forums like this one

I can type into this box, but when I hit Submit New Thread it responds saying that my message is too short. Its not too short its just the server not recieving my input apparently.
Any fixes? This is why I stick mostly to Opera Mini when I had my Mogul; Opera Mini works great on forums. But I always found Opera Mobile to not.

With 380ish posts really you should know the rules of posting thats a Q&A or related to a specific Opera build and should be posted in the correct thread\sub forum...
that's interesting, I've never had that kind of problem with opera before. the only kind I had was that I couldn't enter text when trying to post. however, easy fix for that was to set user agent spoof to 3 in opera:config. try doing that and see if it works.
a lot of people likes mini but it sucked dragon balls to me. I remember when I used to use hardware keyboard, I couldn't start typing something in the text entry and switch orientation in mini because then all that I have typed would be exiled into oblivion. however, it displays pages really well and is fast.
another thing is that I couldn't access most embedded and pop-out menus. I don't know if they put in a download manager now that allows for more than 1 download at a time with pause and resume functionality. the lack of these things used to really annoy me. plus I find that I use opera's send to email and sms quite frequently.
yeah I was jellin with mini until opera9 came out. mini is good for most users though.
Moved to Q&A section.
I'm using opera 9.5 now and i have no problems... It may be your :config settings or just your build.

You can install both parallel.

For the next version please post the useragents of your branded phones.
To find your Useragent you can use the OUABackup.
OUABackup - Backup and restore your useragent
It will place a file on your SD Card with your useragent.
With this little app it is also possible to restore the useragent.
For Opera 9.x and 10.
Cab and noinstall exe file available here as attachment.
If you backup twice it will overwrite the old backup file.
Please share your useragent and the provider of your branded phone!
If you want to support me just visit my blog http://blog.is-a-geek.org and click some ads if u are interested.
Nice feature! Thanks!
What benefits give your modifications except other icon? Opera will be identified like desktop Firefox for example?
exactly or as iphone
i made this because i had problems to view the vodafone live portal because u need the user agent of a branded phone
Thats awesome! If this mod can prevent viewing mobile versions of some sites, then i can say this is one "must have" app! Thank you.
Sorry to sound like a noob...
It's not very often something goes right over my head, but can some one please explain what this is exactly?
Sounds interesting..
it just changes a setting for opera.
the user agent entry tells the server/webpage if its a firefox,ie,opera .....
for some pages there are different versions of pages ae mobile versions, iphone versions ...
its also a problem to view the vodafone portal without the correct user agent
got it! cheers
working on version 2
please send me some branded user agents with provider and location thank you
Interesting little app,
Was wondering if you could add iPad agent? - as I understand that gmail has a nice looking interface for ipad's and was wondering what it would look like on the HD2 (If it works at all as I think is HTML5)
UA is,,
Mozilla/5.0(iPad; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B314 Safari/531.21.10
More info here http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/04/google-services-on-ipad-and-tablet.html
Hi Chal.
Well done for creating this useful App. I will give it a try. What is the 'Delete' icon for?

The delete icon just leaves the user agent blank
Does this work with Opera Mobile 10?

Hi, it's a useful tool.
Is it possible to add a functionality that save the active User Agent in a shortcut ?
Fo example my active user fo SFR in France is (Vodafone/1.0/HTC_HD2/1.44.163.3 (70494) Opera/9.7 (Windows NT 5.1;U;fr), is it possible to save it on a shortcut automaticaly, switch to Iphone user agent and come back to the previous saved one ?
Thx for you'r answer
Hello,
Nice mod, sound interesting. Downloading & will test it.
BTW, and sorry for getting off topic, In the second snapshot I see you have Firefox for WM installed. I've searched everywhere for it & came out with nothing. Can you please share the cab?
Thanks in advance.
it is possible to make a little app to save the useragent
if i have enough time i will post it next week
if it makes some kind of backup file on the storage card it can be useful for rom upgrades too. and maybee people can post the file to get more useragents for the switcher
i dont have ff installed
its just the icon to use the firefox useragent with opera
the firefox for wm is called "fennec"
cab should be here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-pro/57272-fennec-official-release-get-cab-here.html
