See http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Polaris ... and please ignore the twats who refuse to actually answer the question which has been asked, but just want to show how superior they think they are because they have managed to figure out how to use Google.

The question has been answered, and a link has been added to the general XDA-Wiki. I only pointed out that the Wiki link didn't poke only his/her eyes out. So please explain why am I being a twat?

How-to Install Cab Files??

Sorry for such a "noob" question, but how do you install "cab" files? Do you click on them when in active-sync or do you have to cut-n-paste them somewhere?
Just wondering because I wanted to install several programs in Vp's "add-on" list but not sure how? I tried clicking on one and it didn't do anything?
Just copy the cab to your device and then open your file explorer on your device, find the cab, and double click it. It's that simple
Read the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
And enjoy your new toy
Moderator.... shouldn't this thread be locked? Not a WM6 related question...

Hi
U can install CAB files by two ways
1. Copy files to your device and double click
2. Download prgm CabViaSync u can directly install it form your desktop
http://www.modaco.com/Vista-WMDC-compatible-CAB-t248516.html
copy the cab file into your device itself ,that's all and double click on it on ppc
To copy it ,connect your device ,when activesync sync , u can click on explore button ,it will open ur device then just copy and paste
Where do you copy it to on the device? The Program menu? And then click on it from there?
I posted it here because I'm using WM6 although it's the same I gather with WM5. Sorry if it's in the wrong thread.
Thanks everyone. I'll try it.
Again, sorry if this is in the wrong thread.
dude, just copy it to say your storage card, go to file explorer, then to your storage card and click n it. lol..it's amazing, u know how to upgrade to WM6 but you dont know how to install a .cab file? lol .. wow.

THIS CANT BE IN THE WRONG THREAD YOU THARTED THE THREAD!! LOL
this is funny
Im not trying to be an ass to who-ever started this thread or the participants but this has to be the funniest question I have ever read on here. Why? because its a developers web site for test and mods and you made it here so far without even opening a cab file. thats like growing up, standing and getting food from the cubbards and then still not knowing how to open the fridge...i say this with humour not arrogance.
Is this thread serious or a joke?
I can't tell...
If it's serious, someone needs to gently put down the PPC and pick up a Nokia... more their speed.

Sorry man, I'm the bonehead. I make a living working on cars - not phones! And YES, I made it this far loading roms and not having to do anything with cabs!
The reason I'm wandering around the "developers" website is because I get the best answers here.
I'm sure if things were reversed, and you were rebuilding a "hemi" you *might* ask a silly question too.
So... before you work on the "hemi", don't you read the service manual first or do you just post the question hemi.mechanics.com?
I think that's why some people are flaming you for this question...
It's like saying you rebuilt the engine but you don't know how to add oil.
This reply is in no disrespect to you....

didnt search the forum but i think the internet is more vast then this forum and second thing i saw a pic on this site of a self edited ROM on Emulator Device
You can edit the Microsoft ROM images they provide for use in their emulators but there is no way to take a device specific file an emulate it unfortunately.

All sort of services manuals

Hi all: I don't know where to post this link, becuase its refers to all the models (or quite all).
It its a link where you can find the disassembling manual, and use to be official, for your pda, phone...
Because the forum is divided on models, I attach here the website and each one can get its own.
http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/2429/htc-service-manuals.html
Sorry if it is already posted. I didn't found it.

Problems with Desire S after Android 4.0 update

Hello!
Sorry, first asked my questions in the wrong Section. I didnĀ“t found real answers in the Q/A Section, so i just re-ask:
I updated my HTC Desire S with the following update from HTC Dev:
Desire S HTC WWE RUU N/A v4.0 404.0 MB 14.01.401.2
Update went fine so far. Or is the update above the wrong update for my german Desire S?
But the Device has some problems for now. I Installed whatsapp and when i follow links i geht per whatsapp the app crashed and i get an error message.
Any idea for that?
And another Question to the Browser:
When i start the browser he first loads the last site i visited bevor i quit the browser. But in the settings i set google as startpage.
Even if hard kill the browser with the task manager it reloads the last page i visited instead of the startpage.
Any ideas on that?
How can i completly wipe the device?
Thanks!
You had the response from Jugg1es - read the stickies as EVERYTHING you need to know has been answered many, many times. Please don't open another thread as it will not help you to get quicker replies.
Which Sticky do you mean? In Q&A - there is no sticky..
Also there are no answeres in the sticky threads in the general area.
So, is this update the right for my german desires s:
Desire S HTC WWE RUU N/A v4.0 404.0 MB 14.01.401.2
And should i wipe the device after flashing because of my whatsapp bug?

For 'Stickies' - read the Index Thread in the Dev forum.
For the WhatsApp 'Bug' - read this thread as it is not a bug, more a 'feature'
Thanks for the Links, but the Link but i dont know how the second link can help me with my Whatsapp Problem!
If i start an Link out of an whatsapp message i got the error, and the app gets killed.
in your link is the following information:
The app associations bug (not changing the app links in the appropriate menu) has a simple workaround. Go to Settings->Apps->All-> look for the app that is currently linked as the default one and select it-> scroll down and hit clear defaults. Now you can set a new link in the Apps associations menu.

But when i go to whatsapp i cant use the button clea defaults. And when i clear the defauls of my browser, it also doesnt help me with my problem!

You found a solution yet without a "Custom Rom"? If there is a solution to this Whatsapp thing it isn't clear in the threads.
Why can't people post exactly where the solution is?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31013026&postcount=1
htcdev.com apparently have a guide to (root) unclock the bootloader... There isn't an option for Desire S so you'll have to dig deeper for that answer...

Because XDA is supposed to be a Mobile Development Forum - simply telling people the answers doesn't help them to understand anything and then when it goes wrong they are stranded and panic.

Turns out, I couldn't find the wiki - it may not have been migrated when xda migrated to a new forum.
Internet archive has it here;
Hui Fei Type - XDA-Developers
web.archive.org
Not sure that these will help you, what is it you're wanting to achieve through codes?

I was mainly trying to find out how to reboot my headunit. And also just curious to see what other codes there were
To reboot, you can enter hctreboot in the field when it asks for the passcode when accessing factory settings.
