What is the videocall problem anyway? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hi. I have a universal. I have never upgraded my devices with any rom that is not officially released by htc. However, having had a WM6 Hermes (Which I gave to my girlfriend) I want to upgrade my old universal (which i now used after my girlfriend forced me to give her the hermes :sad to WM6. I have always been reluctant to upgrade through any unofficial rom but seeing that HTC may have abandoned the universal platform, i would like to try ranju's.
I just have a few questions...
1. What is the videocall problem anyway? I use video call a lot. This is my main concern.
2. Can i still install official updates after i do the procedures listed here. (Unlock CID, etc...)
3. Is there a way to return the device to it's original locked state. in case HTC would release an official update?
4. Would the ROMs know that they are running on an unlocked device? Is there any Effect?

1. The Video Call Problem Is The Complete Lack Of Videocall Support On WM6 UNI's (So If You Use It Alot Then WM6 Is Not For You.)
2. Yes, You Can Flash Any Rom After Unlocking.
3. I Dont Know About This One But Its Highly Unlikeley We Will Ever See An Official HTC WM6/6.1 Rom For The UNI.
4. Theirs No Difference Other Than Being Able To Flash Any Rom Or Use Any Simcard. (The Roms Dont Really Check Whether The Device Is Locked Or Not I Dont Think.)

What seems to be the cause of the problem? Correct me if i am wrong but i think WM5 also did not support video call. If I recall correctly, it is HTC's phone app that adds video call support to WM5 (As what i experienced with my uni, the WM5 phone apps do have video call function but do not work. nor do they accept incoming vc. If i interrupt the installation after hard resetting my phone, I do not have videocall. i need to install the apps in the extrom to have vc. my rom info: dopod 900 official rom version: 1.30.111 WWE 4/6/6, Radio : 1.11, Ext 1.30.230). Can't i just get the WM5 phone app cab file from my ExtROM and install that on Ranju's or Beasy's?
I read in some posts that they are able to do outgoing video calls but buggy. What's buggy? device hang? call drop? or is it just short pauses for data buffering, processing etc...?
Also some say that there is no incoming. What's missing? Is it just not ringing, or is it a problem with the RadioROM?

I Dont Know The Exact Specifics Of It As I Dont Know Anyone Who Uses It.
Some Of The GURUS Tried Hacking It In And Getting It Working But It Jus Doesnt Work. We Need HTC To Make VideoCall For Universal Work But They Wont.

One thing is certain, who gets to run the videocall in WM6 is set to become the number one. But so far it has not managed to anybody, I doubt that someone gets to run the videocall in WM6. In addition, I believe that now nobody is working on it more.

UK Version MSVC

I have MS Voice Command UK version. I'm using the very stable WM6 ROM from jwright; is it possible to change the US version to the UK version so it recognises the dial pattern correctly?
If it is possible, it would make my device perfect.
I have been trying to locate that for ages, cant see anywhere selling it (V 1.6)...Where did you get it?
Thanks

Jason,
This has been available for ages, try http://www.handango.co.uk/PlatformP...2&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=151270

Where I got it from, in fact.
Thanks guys, I'm sure I looked there before, but only saw the 1.5 version..Got it now
I don't use this ROM, so I'm only guessing here. Presumably Voice Command does not show up in Remove Programs.
In which case you could unlock the extended ROM and replace the MSVC US cab with your MSVC UK cab and do a hard reset. Your version should then get installed (at the expense of all you installed programs and setting obviously).
Or has JWright done something more clever with his ROM to get MSVC on there?
Mike
Voice Command is integrated into the core ROM on WM6.
Although you can still install the UK version, it will use up storage space, but it should still work, it was what I did on the earlier WM6 builds to get the bluetooth button issue resolved, and always worked fine.

AT&T WM 5 ROM, Please Help

Hi all:
I installed the official unbranded WM6 ROM on my AT&T branded phone. Well the install worked great, but after install I am having some problems.
When I type the letters seem to stick, not physically of course, but there is a delay in the next letter being entered, and it makes a slight crackling sound, different than the normal key sound.
Is it possible for me to revert back to WM5? I have searched several forums (including this one of course), and the concensus seems to be that yes I can revert back, but I have been unable to find the AT&T WM5 ROM anywhere (I found the Cingular one, but can't find the AT&T ROM). Does anyone happen to know where I can find it?
Will the fact that I installed the unbranded ROM interfere when I want to install the official AT&T WM6 ROM?
Please help
Thanks!

You don't have Windows Mobile 6.1 on your Tilt. The tilt comes stock with Windows Mobile 6.
First I would advise you before anything to read the first thread, specifically the one dealing with HardSPL. Before you flash to Dutty's ROM make sure that you have HardSPL flashed. After that you can flash to whatever ROM you want.
If you do decide to upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 you will need to flash to a new radio. There is also a sticky for this with download links and location. Your best friend at this time would be the Kaiser Wiki, which is also located in the first thread. I would highly advise that you take an hour and read up on how to do everything that your asking and familiarize yourself with the techniques of flashing / upgrading.
...and to answer your last question, no updating your radio would not effect your service with AT&T the evil empire
How would I upgrade to WM 6.1
Also I just finished with flashing HardSPL

if you indeed have hardspl now, then pick a 6.1 rom and 6.1 radio and have fun configuring.

If you would like to try dutty's just download the ROM from the listed locations in the 1st thread. There are a couple to choose from. I would also highly advise you to read through the second post. This gives you a lot of information about configuration, best results, before and after flashing. Also gives you some detail on how to configure your device. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Here is a link for Dutty's WM6.1 official ROM. http://www.4shared.com/file/3801940...ial_WM611_Release.html?dirPwdVerified=1f45688
Hard SPL Issues
I've been reading all of these threads for the past month(over 30 hours). I downloaded the HTC Kaiser, and the HTC home plug in, but after downloading the new 6.1 I can no longer get access to the internet which is imperative. I've downloaded the HardSPL and I deleted everything else, and once again I can't get to the internet. What am I doing wrong? Please help, I'm about to go on travel and I really need the internet. If I will be forced to use this basic brick without all the luxuries, I guess I will have to, but I don't want to.

Which ROM do you currently have installed? Have you tried any of the configuration cabs. Which mobile service provider do you have?
I have the new 6.1 rom, I downloaded duttys new 6.1 release and it still did not work. I've had tons of cabs, Schen, schaps, etc... & I have at&t
After the new 6.1 nothing will work anymore, I can't even get WiFi, I even went to the extreme of returning the phone to AT&T today because I swur it was the device and not the software
I think I'm about to go nuts, I've read the ALL Wiki, I've read Modaco, I've read the 1st sticky post, I've read the HTC support forums, but I can't get this thing to work properly.
bump, sorry but I need the internet, and it's urgent! Someone please help

Does any of your sound work? Does your camera work. The only reason I ask this is that you might have a radio problem.
If you do have sound...then try to install this cab.
http://shogunmark.com/Documents/shogun_cing.cab
yes the sound works, I just can't connect to the internet. I was able to listen to my music with and without the headphones today. Please help with the internet issue, that's all I need right now, I can worry about the sound later...
Go to start ->settings->connections->advanced->select networks
Make sure the programs are supposed to connect through media net. Once you've selected media net, hit edit, then click the proxy settings tab. Uncheck uses proxy server.
That should fix it, if there isn't even a media net option, you need a cab to fix it.
I've done all this, I've actually sat on the phone with tech support for 2 hours today resetting the internet connections, and it still did not work, hence me returning the phone for a replacement today.
Trust me you guys, I've done all the basic fixes...
What version of radio do you have? There might be a better way to check it, but the easy way is to reboot the phone, it's the number next to the R
I've done a SR and a HR. The HR is the only thing that brings me back to getting access to the internet, which is the only thing that works, however it removed all of my add-ons

the radio version I have is 1.27.14.09
A hard reset lets you access the internet?
(Also, settings->device information give you the rom info, too)

that tells me that one of the cabs you installed had some ill effect on your settings. try the internet after each cab you install and that way you can find the culprit causing you problems.

TNT 1921 VM problems?

Greetings all.
I have flashed the TNT WM6 build (5.2.1921; build 18521.0.7.0 from the About screen) on my 8125, and I'm quite happy with it. Seems stable enough, works well (although I wish I could customize the HTC Launcher!).
But I am having problems with voicemail and text messages not showing up on the device. Is this typical of these builds? Is there one anyone could recommend that helps solve this problem? An upgrade to TNT's latest?
Thanks!
I dont understand why you use this verion.
I use TNT 4.0 becouse this rom is stable and wifi connect with my preferred network seameless.
This version dont have the poblem with voice mail and text messages not showing up.
This is my suggestion.

Help me out, folks...
I downloaded the TNT 19213 ROM on Solomhamada's recommendation, and it's telling me the Update Manager is out of date.
WTF?
I would think that the download would come with correct Update Manager.
What to do? I'm back to WM5 and about to throw various electronic devices against walls...
(and excuse me if I'm being dense and a basic newbie.)
SBJ
I have wifi at home and at work.
Lunch at shpping every day and also in free wifi.
Any ROM different from OS 5.2.318 Build 15342.4.0.01 have an issue with wifi auto-conect in my preferred network.
And i need this functionality.
If you dont need you should be the WM6.1 ROM.
If you need de more stability, try the Business ROM (jwzg).
Sorry for my google english

That's all fine and dandy, but it doesn't help me if I can't download the ROM onto my 8125. The Update manager on the ROMS I've downloaded are out of date, according to the installation wizard. The phone disconnects from the Autosync, does not reconnect, and the screen goes all three-color. I didn't have this problem putting WM5 back on the device. I'm also now losing onboard memory.
If I need a new Update Manager, let me know where to get it.
Thanks.

Ive installed the voipwm6.cab (so i could have internet calling) and then did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299950 . Ive also tried using the sip tool, it still won't work over wifi. Ive also searched Google and this forum and can't find a solution.

I could'nt get that working either.
The easiest way is to use SjPhone client. The interface is a bit dated but it works. Another option is Sling, but its sound quality is atrocious, although the interface is better.
Not familiar with "sling" could you plz pass me a link? thnxs

No, mine is a Dopod U1000. Voip should be the same on all WM6 devices.
Sorry , it is Fring, not Sling. lol, what was I thinking?

I have also got a Ameo 16G from T-Mobile Germany. You dont want to install an extra program, because WM6 support VOIP according to Microsoft. If you cannot find the function, just because the device producer has bloced it. I have installed a plugin for SIP setting, it was called destr0_VOIP_WM61___SIP_Config.cab, if you cannot find it, pm me your email address, I can send it to you.

I had tried this before but it never worked for me. I think it may work for extremely limited ISP.
Are you able to make call with it and have good voice quality at both ends?
I have tested it on WIFI, it can work on my x7510. Afer installation, there is a new program named sip config tool in your programs, there you should input SIP informations, such as SIP server user name password, next step you can find a new window at the telephone setting named internet, here you can choose when to use VOIP. But I do think, the voice quality of the VOIP can not make me satisfied.
if you install Skype for PPE, it automatically does VOIP, either WiFi or 3G
I now use AGEphone mobile, which has good skin, user interface, and voice quality.
works great
