I have been looking for a way to be able to greatly reduce my cell phone bill. I did a search on Youtube and found this video which explains how to make pretty close to free calls anywhere in the world.

You put this device on your network at home and then you can call it with your mobile phone and it gives you a dial tone!!! It then proceeds to use VOIP or something to call whatever number you want. There is a small charge per minute like .02 cents in the USA. But the device costs $200!!! Has anyone had any experience with this or have another way to make calls for free.
Years ago, I used to have my analog cell phone call a certain number and it would call me back with a dial tone where i could dial out for cheap.
There has to be a way to call your computer and use your home phone to either call you back with a dial tone or do a three way call and conference you in to who you need to call.
I have Sprint, so, if I could say, have an automated text message i can send my computer which has the number i need to call. My computer would then call me back and wheni answer, it would conference me into the number i texted it
OR maybe i can call my computer and let it ring twice so my computer can recognize my caller id. Then i can hang up and wait for the Incoming phone call which then would let me dial any number needed. Maybe when i was finished with the first call and needed to make a new call, instead of doing the procedure again, i could hit the Pound# button and it would reset ready for me to dial again.
Sorry to rant, I guess i could have spent hours arranging my thoughts in a more precise manor... Any ideas peeps...... i hate sending Sprint $120 a month!!!!
Then make your own Wireless Phone Company, and stop complaining about the best carrier that has the most bang for your buck?

Call during nights and weekends, if you have a phone, you're going to have a bill. If you want to use the network/wifi phone, well it's a totally different plan. If it was that simple to make our phones do that, carriers wouldn't make their money.
Corrykid, I hope your Sprint stock options are doing well! Why dont you go flame the gps forums for trying to get GPS for free.... Aren't you the guy who showed everyone how to get unlimited laptop internet access? Why not pay Sprint for their WIFI adapter? CHEAPSKATE...

Free calls to home mobile plan
VOIP home phone (Vonage free long distance unlimited calling)
Computer with modem
Application:
A person wants to call 404-555-3232
He would Call "home" number using mobile phone.
His Computer's Modem answers phone
He then enters 404-555-3232 on mobile
Computer "flashes the line" calls 404-555-3232 then flashes again to do a three way call
Result:
Person with free calls to home is not charged mobile minutes to call 404-555-3232

Does anyone know of a prog to divert calls?
I do understand that you can set up one divert profile with the operator, but being awkward I would like to set up more than one.
Don't know if there is a utility out there to do this.

You mean as in to forward your calls? Go to Start>>Settings>>Phone>>Services Tab>>Click "Call Forwarding" then "Get Settings" Button and adjust from there.
EDIT: You want to be able to change this easily using "profiles"? A option would be to use a marcro recorder or a script editor and give each macro/script/profile its own icon, so that when you click it it does the above. I used the program MacroRecorder when I had a smarphone, it may work on our OS too, I'm not sure. You could also download MortScripts if you'd prefert to write a script.

You have got the idea exactly, got a new car with a "stupid" car kit built in.
The car kit takes a sim card... never heard of bluetooth!!!!!
O2 say they don't (and never have) offered a "dual sim" option. I was hoping to switch the phone off when I got in the car.
So the next idea is to put a pay as you go sim in the car kit and diver all calls from the main number to the car kit.
I already have a divert set up when I cannot take a call, and being lazy I suppose would love a little utility that swaps the divert between the two numbers.
Probably not upto writing scripts or macro as i don't want to mess up my phone

Not a tool but....you may check out *# codes (aka "GSM codes"), compose the one you need and create a phonebook entry. To run the network service you may put this entry to a speed dial button and activate it manually when you enter the car. Means you run a call to this "number". That's how I forward all calls from my private phone to my company phone: in the morning: call **21*mynumber# and to switch forwarding off in the evening: call #21#. Works pretty good.

btw: you will most likely be charged for call forwarding between different providers. At least in Germany they do it.
The coolest thing for you would be T-Mobile-like "Multi-SIM". IMHO the best Multi-SIM implementation ever as you can leave both phones switched on and none of them is kicked out of the network. They just ring both and both present the same number to the far end.
It's a shame that O2 doesn't offer something like this...
Luckily O2 offer unlimited O2 to O2 calls so with luck the divert will be included.

There is also a program "PhoneAlarm" which can be used to divert calls. You can feed 4 or 5 numbers to which you would like your calls to be diverted. From the Today Screen Plug-In of phonealarm you just need to press and hold and you would be presented with a list of numbers to select the one you currently want the calls to be diverted to.

I searched this, and was surprised not to find any threads on this topic, as I'm sure it has been answered already, but anyways...
I'm travelling in the US for the next 2 weeks, and I want to avoid roaming charges on my cellphone. I do have wifi where I am, and I want to know if there's any way that I can use this to avoid roaming charges.
I know there are SMS apps that send texts over your data connection, and I just wanted to see if this would help me evade roaming charges.
On a side note, if anyone knows, does rogers charge roaming on incoming and outgoing, or just outgoing?
And, can I get both my incoming and outgoing to come through wifi?

I have textplus on my phone and that does allow me to send messages through wifi and I can also receive them. When I send a message it uses a really funny number (like 1001-2223202) But you select a name to be shown when the person receives the message. Also if you want to receive a message the sender has to reply to the funny number not your typical cell number, If the sender send you a message and you donèt have wifi on, the message shows up the next time you open the app.

I dont know why your are going out of your service area but another option is to pick up a SIM card for a local network when your away. You can get a cheap SIM and get a pay and talk type plan while your in that area, this way you can make local calls and message without worrying.
I guess it all depends on you situation.

I there a way to transfer a call from the captivate to a land line or any other line for that matter, mid-call?
Often I will be on a landline call on my office phone and I just press the transfer button and dial my cell phone to transfer the call to it if I need to leave the office. I can't find a way to do the reverse though, and transfer the call from the cell to the landline when I get to the office.
I think Google voice can do it but I am wondering if anyone knows of any other ways or apps that can do this.

1. How can I receive calls and make calls on my local number while international? When I leave the states and I'm working in a foreign country, when someone calls me on my normal cell phone number, I want it to ring on my cellphone no matter where in the world I am. It does not need to go through the PSTN where I located, but I would need to be able to return calls to US destinations, which would require going through the PSTN for US destination calls, without having it cost an arm and a leg.
2. Random thoughts I have are call forwarding from the local number to..., a Skype $60/yr. phone number, SIP somehow, calls made by MagicJack to the US or Canada are free. MagicJack to MagicJack calls are free no matter where you are, etc. Maybe to return calls, one of the dial-a-number first plans, which are as low as 4 cents a minute, etc. I'm trying to stitch together anything that be free or inexpensive. I'm interested in your thoughts.
3. Unrelated question: Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Signal app on our phones simply initializes a session with Whisper System's Servers across the Internet. Your phone number is simply a handle so when Signal users call each other, Signal knows which handles to pair up for their peer-to-peer session. Because it is done across the Internet, there is no concept of PSTN countries, area codes, etc., and where either user is located at the moment is irrelevant as long as they both have a data connection of some kind, it doesn't change how they dial, and the cost of the call ranges from free Wi-Fi, up to the cost of the small amount of cellular bandwidth consumed by the calls. Moreover, when you change SIMs and thus your phone's telephone number, the Signal telephone number remains the number that you initially set up Signal on.
I searched a lot to find a forum for this topic I couldn't find one so here it goes.
I live in Canada and I received 5 or more calls from this number (716-895-3300) .. it is a Buffalo, NY number and it is a medical facility fax number or something from what I found out in my search. I received 5 calls within half an hour from this. Every time it would leave a voice message and the voice message is silent except some beeping noises. I didn't answer the call even though I was tempted but I made a big mistake. I accidentally called it... I was trying to call my voice message number but my finger hit this number and it went on until my phone vibrated(meaning probably that call went through) and then I hang up. After calling this number the calls stopped. Again suspicious.
So my question is... can you get hacked if you call a suspicious number like this?
I changed my banking app password but didn't change my multiple email address passwords.... too lazy. So can you get hacked if you call a suspicious number and the call goes through and just when they are about to pick up you hang up?
What makes you think you been hacked?
It may be true that your device was compromised, but not from those calls.
I don't think that your mobile phone will get hacked if you just call a suspicious number.
Probably ok for such a short time frame call...
