Hi, Ive just been checking my phonebill and noticed since upgrading to the 6.1WM my phone using the internet access (GPRS/EDGE). I cant physically see whats running in task manager, but it def is accessing the internet at certain stages. I have no email set up apart from windows live (Hotmail) and that is all signed out of? How to i stop this?
Have you already tried the following? The same helps to end GPRS/EDGE connection by using the Call End key (Red key) once you finished using the Internet. In fact, in many cases, the connection closes automatically after being idle for some time.
Go to: HKLM-->Comm-->ConnMgr-->Planner-->Settings-->SuspendResume
and delete ~GPRS! value.
maybe it is rss hub ? it can be configured to update rss each time it detects a connection.
In Dr. Gonzo's rom there is a util in the System folder called NoData. I use this to disable my gprs connection because I never use it and its pay per use. Its very simple to enable when you want to use data.
ok, ill take a look? What does HKLM mean?
It means you need to edit the registry on your phone, HKLM means "HKey Local Machine". I have just done this as it was leaving the data connection active on the standard WM6 HTC ROM, and it worked.
Thanks!
Thanks for the help.

Phone: HTC Wizard (T-Mobile MDA)
Current Rom: X-Plore 2.0
Radio: 2.19.11
Network: T-Mobile USA
Since upgrading to X-Plore 2.0 I am able to use Netfront, Internet Explorer, SMS, and MMS. But programs like Pocket IRC, the FTP client within Total Commander, and things like that won't connect to the net. I have verified that my settings are correct, So I donot understand what is occuring. All these worked perfectly before the upgrade but now donot at all. Unfortunately I donot have a Data Cable any longer to try and see if it was merely the rom or something else.
Please someone help!
This includes Windows Live (not connecting). I don't get it, why are browsers connecting but not my apps?
Okay just tried a hard reset. Still No Bueno.
If this helps:
Programs That Do Connect:
1. IE
2. NetFront
3. Opera (loaded only to test if it would connect)
4. SKTools (When it connects to see if there are updates available)
5. Tweaks2K2.Net (When it connects to see if updates are available)
Programs that DONOT connect:
1. PocketIRC (Keeps acting like it kind find a server to connect to just jumps from ip addy to ip addy trying to connecy)
2. Total Commander FTP Plugin (Says ''Username not accepted; Offline'' And that is on multiple FTP's including XDA'S!!)
3. Windows Live
Now I have verified my settings in connections and the fact that my browsers will connect shows me its able and is connecting and browsing the net. Please guys what could it be???? Thanks in advance!
And you are using GPRS ?
My WindowsLive is working ...i did not tested the others you said, but i am sure that Windows Live is connecting....except now, it won't work neither from my PC, that's M$'s bad not mine...
Mabe it's the connection or data plan. Are you sure that it worked before..or you changed data plan meanwhile ?
Yeah It worked before and I have not changed my data plan. If I recall it worked after the upgrade for a short while. Its been occuring for about a week now. Its bloody frusterating because my browsers all work, I can browse the internet, and do all that good stuff. I just cannot get things like PiRC & Total Commander to connect to the net. Even after a hard reset...Nothing. Could T-Mobile be blocking these apps? Of course once again that would not explain why NetFront and Opera, Sktools and Tweaks2k2 can connect. I am about to install OZ IM ill let you know if it works. Question though, Is there an alternative to using T-Mobile USA's 216 Proxy? Maybe a better one? Cuz maybe if I change the proxy to a non-T-Mobile one they won't be able to block it anymore..... Hmmm its an idea.
and sure enough OZ IM Connects its the one I found in the Ext. Rom
Yeah its gotta be a T-Mobile issue cuz all the programs that DONOT connect via GPRS/Edge connect perfectly via WIFI. Why would T-Mobile do that and is there a way around it?
Okay so I called T-Mobile and they deny doing anything of the sort. Which is good and bad. I am also getting a nice little messege in both WIFI and in GPRS when trying to download anything that states "This device is restricted from downloading this file type" when trying to download anything from the net. Any ideas?
Edit: I also called HTC and they said that there are no settings in the phone that would cuase this occurence which is bull becuase umm yeah....Anyway HTC tech support or at least every one of them that I talked to is for crud. Not very good support those guys.
Which data plan do you have? The $29.99 Internet one or the $5.99 T-zones one. If you only have the $5.99 plan, t-mobile filters a lot of the traffic that isn't on specific ports (ie port 80 for http works, but many other's won't) which causes some programs to not get network access. There were some proxies that allowed you to get around those, but a lot of them aren't working anymore last I heard.
If that's the case, probably your only solution is to pay for the full data plan which includes all ports internet access.
See the only reason I donot suspect the Data Plan being the issue (yes I have the 5.99 T-Mobile Web Plan, formely the $2.99 T-Zones) is because programs like NetFront and the like are connecting without issue. However I DO Suspect its a setting of some sort within the phone. I am going to try a level 2 Hard Reset (the one done with the combination of buttons) and see what happens. I tried a level 1 hard reset (The clear storage) to no avail. The level 2 hard reset will hopefully wipe it.

I am in the same boat as you. With my tinkering I found that programs automatically connect to the connection called "The Internet" which there is no way I can edit.
It connects to this "The Internet" automatically even when I set it to connect to my Proxy setting connection in Settings>Connections>Advanced tab on the bottom>Select Networks. Could that be the problem?
Okay after my Hard Reset 2 (the combination of buttons, I was finally able to get to download programs again, however I am back to having a 1MB download limit. And in answer to your question yes I have the same thing even though I don't have a connection called ''the internet'' other thing I have noticed is that the connection ISP does not allow for the assigning of a proxy server. Even though you can just make a new connection and assign a proxy server to that new one. This however does not circumvent our little issue. Nor does it get rid of my 1MB dl limit. Anichulis do you know how to change programs defualt connections away from Internet and assign them to use GPRS?
Hey This issue, is still occuring any ideas?
My Software Version - TREO750-2.23-RWE
Firmware Version - 1.54.00.00
GPRS / 3G connection not always launches itself. I have push email and i find myself having to go to "manage connections" and activate it manually...
Can anyone help, please?
Try again athena_unlock program (run from TREO 750).
This util is obtainable after use CheetahUnlocker and extracting to C or D:/TempChe
or flash again WM6 TREO750-2.23-RWE form miniSD nammed CHEEIMG.nbh
Thansk for your anwser.
I can't run it again because it keeps telling that i already ran the upgrade...
extract cheeimg_fw.nbh, place it in a folder with kaisercutomruu.exe (search forum for this), rename cheeimg_fw.nbh to ruu_signed.nbh, execute kaiser*.exe
I do not recommend upgrading to 1.54.30.x
Thanks for your answer. But, if yoy don't recommend this upgrade, perhaps i 'd better stay still.. Right?
btw, it happens frequently that my data connection doesn't start when some application (as the IE) requires it; but, after editing the connection (without changing anything at all) it just starts working... till the next time.
Thanks,
instead of editing the connection, do this instead.
start
settings
connections tab
connections
manage existing connections
on your isp click and hold the middle button or stylus and you will get an option that says "connect"
Well let's explore the issue at hand: You do not get an auto-connect to GPRS/3G. Can you explain the situation a bit more. Is there data outbound (e.g. internet browsing or mail synch) or do you expect data to connect when there is no data outbound? When you attempt outbound data traffic do you get an error or simply no attempt at all to connect to GPRS/3G?
The situation arrives when i try to access the internet (IE) or push synch my corporate email (with Onebridge).
Sometimes it works fine; but... suddenly it stops working (i mean, the data connection).
How can I see the amount of data transferred with GPRS/3G/HSDPA-connections to my touch pro? I can find the call-durations but nothing for data.... strange because these devices are popular because the capability of mobile internet.

A quick search on Google (or your favourite search engine) would bring up the same results:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/glossary.html?en
I've found that offcourse :| But I wanted to know if it was build in WM.
You mean there is no way that WM collects this data??
on one of the cd's that came with your Touch Pro is a program called SPB GPRS monitor.
install this on your device and you'll end up with a small today screen item that shows the amount of data send/recieved (and more)
EDIT: never mind! you found it allready
but to awnser your question: no WM does not collect/store this data.
So very strange that WM does not incorporate such software into WM, i think a lot of users would benefit from it.
@XtremeXL: I've looked at the CD's which accompanied my TouchPro but I didn''t find the SBP GPRS program. on which cd it's located?
even people on normal computers with limited mb's a months dont get such features on windows for pc's as far as i know
but you could mail ms about a feature request

I'm sorry you're right! the program is not on the cd
i used to have a HTC TyTn II and it was located on that cd (unfortunatly
I sold it)
but i've send you a PM!
gprs monitor that came with the TyTn II will not install on the touch pro - just incase you were thinking down those lines. The application is "locked" to the TYTN II only.
The only other app that i have found with a gprs counter is pocketmax phonealarm which provides amany other features such as profile switching etc. Yu will need to use secondtoday application in order to run it if you are using the vanilla interface.
GPRS monitor increases CPU processing time by an average of 5% when no data connection is active. When i tried it on both my TYTN II and TOuch Pro, the CPU would consistantly change from 99% to around 88 - 95% due to GPRS Monitor.
Battery Status, also provides a free alternative.

I have always found spb's GPRS minitor to slow down the data connection speed itself, so don't bother with it. Being on t-mobile's web'n'walk plus (3Gb cap) means you dont need to worry about excess data charges anyway.

Hi all!
I downloaded the latest version of GPRS Traffic Monitor this weekend and installed the cab-file on the phone (succefully). But I'm experiencing bis problems with that piece of software.
It's not possible to enable GPRS Monitor on the HomeScreen. I set the little hook, but when I return to the homescreem it's not displayed. When I go back and look at the homescreen settings, it's not enabled anymore. Looks like it's disable anytime I close the homescreen settings dialog.
Even when running GPRS Monitor without the homescreen plugin, no data transfers are monitored at all. (Don't know if this is based on the homescreen issue.)
I'm using the stock rom shiped by O2 Germany.
Any suggestions?
Tkx in advance.

a short update:The traffic is counted when I enable "connection monitoring" for the connection called "o2 internet gprs". But what if data is transfered over one of the other connections as "o2 surf"? And is there a way to make sure that GPRS Monitor is allways started without having it on my homescreen? (As i just notice you can run TF3D only as stand alone homescreen.)
Is many people using that battery status program (now called HomeScreen++)? Am i right in thinking thats a pluggin for the today screen but not the manilla/touchflow interface?
My boss has just received a HTC touch pro, the first CD with outlook / ActiveSync worked ok. But the second CD doesnt work in any pc's i've tried it in, would that have SPB gprs Monitor and Backup (like my diamond did)?
Anyone know if they are available to download? From above or another post it said was locked per device, so if its licensed for touch pro only then i guess i'm ok to acquire it, if it should of came on cd anyway.

if you mean the task bar icon it is situated at the top of the screen and you can move the icon about using the slider situated in the info tab in the options

Because TF3D is taking over your homescreen, the plugins selected to display on the today-screen are not displayed until you deselect TF3D. GPRS-monitor is always started when installed, you do not have to start it manually before opening a connection to monitor the usage.
If you want to monitor different connections you will need to set these up using different profiles in GPRS-monitor. One profile for each connection. Then the program should monitor all different types of traffic.
I have 3 different connections in my TP but I only use one of them, the rest is disabled with NODATA-cab. I haven't had any problems with these disabled connections. So you might want to give that a try too.
Hey mates!
First of all I wanna wish you a hapy new year
Ok, now to my question.
I've got a HTC Touch HD a week ago.
I recognized that it establishes a data-connection without asking me.
When i'm using Wifi - no problem.
But as I don't have a data-flat that gets quite expensive, if I can't use Wifi (most of the time no wifi available).
Is it possible to set up Winmobile so that it asks me BEFORE establishing an data connection?
I didn't find any solutions, google didn't help me, too.
Of yourse I could just change the adresses in the settings.
e.g- "internet.t-mobile.de" to "internet.t-mobile.deXXX" ---> no connection possible.
But i want to receive and send MMS at any time, so that would not be possible any more.
I hope you can help me, thx.
greetz
try nodata
this should do what you need....i think
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
thx, but not really what i need.
With this programm i still have to close connections by hand.
I just want WinMobile to ask me BEFORE it establishes a connection.
For example: When I open an programm which tries to download something, a popup should appear
--->
Establish data-connection?
[ ]Yes
[ ] NO
I hope u understand my problem

No one with the same problem here and a solutuon?

I have the same problem with my Touch 3G (Jade). Turning the Data Connection off in the Main Touchflow settings tab helps but doesn't stop it completely. The worst thing is that doesn't seem to download anything but just connecting is enough to start costing.
I spoke to HTC today and they gave me a solution to this problem. Go to Settings, Connections, Connections, Advanced and then Select Networks. There you should find a drop down tab with something like ******GPRS, where ****** is your network. Now now choose New and create a new connection name like "No GPRS" for example. Click OK.
You now have a title but no settings so when you select this one, the phone can't connect to the internet. It might attempt to connect but it won't go through. Don't worry about MMS as this uses a different set of settings and works perfectly (for me).
Hope this helps, Woolly.
Find what apps are creating the connection so you can prevent it. Spb Monitor should be able to show you that.
Using Modaco NoData (link given above) will just do the same saving your time (you don't have to create a fake connection set).
What schlitzohr1812 wants is a way to make WM ask for permission to connect. I haven't heard of anything like this, but if you assign a shortcut to NoData it's almost as easy as what you are looking for. By the way, despite the name, NoData will prevent WM from opening connections, not only to exchange data over them.
Just remember that if you disable the connection while it is already open, you still have to close it manually. Also beware that if in your Comm Manager you have an enabled "Data connection" button (on some phones it's always disabled when the connection is closed, on others it can be used to open it), that button WILL open a connection even if they are disabled.
Thx for helping guys, but "Black Antitoon" is right.
That's not exactly what I was searching for but better than nothing.
I'm used to my old nokia phone (N70) which asked me before.
Incomprehensible why Windows Mobile does not have such an option...
greetz Timo
anybody wrote an app for this data permission yet please?
every time i want to send/recieve my mail it want to use 3g although i am connected to wlan(that has intenet) that is sometimes happens with msn too.
i have htc touch diamond latest official rom.
any ideas why is this happening and how to fix this??
Mostly it is because you bought a phone, not a wlan terminal. Service providers do not make any money if the default setting on the phone is set to access free wifi and not their pay data connection.
Try nodata , to switch of your data connection when you wish to only use wifi.
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
yeah but i havent had this problem before(i mean with older roms),also i have deactivted every single mobile network(i called my provider and they disabled me all network connections) so than i get error that windows wasnt able to recieve files(offcourse you idiot, try using wlan),so so are there any idea to force windows to use wlan(because it wont even try)?
oh and when using opera everything is ok.
edit: i cannot download app,can you please upload it here?
and does snybody knows how can i disable warnings that phone memory is full, use file explorer to delete items?
