Google Maps "My Location" feature for offline GPS programs? - General Topics

HTC Touch doesn't have internal GPS so I have to rely on Google Maps' "My Location" feature to find where I am. The problem is, Google Maps doesn't work offline and GPRS connection costs a lot where I live.
So, is there an offline program like iGo or TomTom that can find where I am without a GPS chip? If google can do it, so can others...

Maybe this could be your solution!

You may want to buy BT linked gps receiver and BT link to
your Touch.

Vox with Google Maps and BT GPS?

I installed Google Maps. My Holux GPS is paired up with the phone.
Start the google app but it does not recognize any GPS being attached.
Anyone else having GPS issues?
Nope, GMaps works fine with my external GPS.
Maybe for GMaps to work you need to a few reg entries. See:

Btw an even better app is Mobile GMaps. See:
http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=664
(an official version with WM and offline maps support will be available today or t'morrow. I use a test version)
I also succesfully installed and use Trekbuddy on S710. See:

Hi
I am using GPSWatch Plus see http://www.gpswatcher.com
It is working very well with my Holux BT GPS.
It also support all the leading maps provider and even offline maps support.
Can be easily operated with fingers.
I dont know if doing any of this will work, but I stumbled upon it and figured you could give it a shot...

GPS

what gps aplication to use on windows mobile ?
garmin , tom tom ....other than that?
i like Garmin, good maps for canada. finger friendly for driving- not that u should do that lol
Google Maps. Depends what you use the GPS for i spose.
GPS Softwares: Destinator, Route 66, Co-Pilot Live, Mapking, iGuidance, Nav N Go igo.
Off Road GPS Software - OziExplorer, Vito Navigator, GPS Tuner, Tracky Pro
Really depends on what you want to use GPS for and your location on earth
i use it in Europe .... for driving ... but i do not want to use internet .
for using Google maps you have to use internet ....right?

Yes, you need data connection for Google Maps.
I personally use iGO8, and I have no complaints so far. Their maps are recently updated, more so probably for European Maps.
i used google and tomtom and i can say forget them
iGO8 is the best i used
if your device can't run iGO8 at full speed turn off landscape and buildings
and it will become very fast
beside that iGO8 gets gps signal very fast 2-3 times faster than iGO6 or tomtom 6

Maps on VOX without gps

Does anybody know if is possible to save maps on microsd and to see them without a gps receiver..?
if you install googlemaps, you can view the maps (and satellite images) even if you don't have gps. bear in mind though that the maps will be downloaded and you may incur data charges.
you can install automapa or tomtom, car navigation programs.
you dont need a gps to browse streets.
automapa - europe only.
tomtom - i dont know.

Is there any free GPS software

Hi,
I've been dearching on the internet for some good GPS software for my Diamond, that has the maps on the device. It doesn't need anything fancy but has to be accessed without an internet connection,
Any suggestions?
Any would be very greatly recieved
Thank you
Littleapps
never heard about it
seems like way too much work
as gps software require lots of lots of maps
and direction calc software and updates of new
roads constantly
Mmmm.
Thanks for the help, are you sure there is nothing, When reading articles I have thought I have seen some, but can't find the articles now,
Oh well, better keep looking
Thanks
there are many many free gps apps.. but they all deal with existant mapping.. such as google's maps.. or microsoft's maps.. or just GPS data applications..
Navigation..
The cheapest I have seen it is at http://www.navmii.com complete with Teleatlas Maps. Works on Diamond . It's only just out, haven't tried it but looks quite promising. Circa £45...
Free GPS without voice prompt and map routing
http://www.terracrosser.com/
It allows you to download maps from google and yahoo but only show your exact location without maps routing (maybe you dont call it navigation software but GPS location software)
It enables you to download the maps in mutliple zooming and satelite view anyway in google maps (best for those travelled frequently without data roaming)
Requires .NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK 3.5 on the phone and .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5 on the pc for software and mapper

gps without the use of data

hey, i was wondering if there is a software that does not use DATA with gps ... i want to load up the maps with maybe wi-fi and then use satellites to make it work ... any suggestions
iGO, TomTom, Garmin, etc. There's a lot, go have a look at them and see which you like best (iGO kills all imo).
thanks
google map cannot use the gps without a data connection, so im looking for an alternative.
but if data is used, how much is used? i only have 2 mb, so i turn data off to prevent going over.
google navigator
u can see ur data usage on google map by press menu --> help --> about. if u like google map as ur navigation friend but dont want to be connected each time u navigate try install google navigator.
get garmin xt
lots of forums have maps for it, very simple to use, inbuilt maps.
you need to either buy the maps or download them from some forum, no data usage
for no-data connection, it means you need the GPS program and maps preloaded...
I'd look at iGo Amigo and Navigon... they look the best in terms of features...
TomTom and Garmin Mobile XT exists for WM, but they're too plain
what gps program to use very much depend on where one live
as there is a world of difference between how often they update their maps
and how good maps they got where one live
so if iGo is good in north America don't 100% mean that it's the thing to get where you live
a good pointer is if gamin or tomtom are huge on the market as stand alone gps's you know that they prob got good maps for your area
so look what stand alone gps use
and check the websites of the various gps software makers
