So I know that ROM choice is a matter of preference...but what about Radio version?
I assume (haven't tried i yet) that the ROM is flashed separately from the radio (as it was on my 6700)?
Is there a good post somewhere regarding the pros and cons of each radio version? I could not find one...
Should I assume that the latest version is the best, and if so...what is the latest and where do I find it? (again list of all radio versions would be nice if anyone has a link to thread)?
I have a Tilt BTW with AT&T...so if there is a particular version superior for my service that info is appreciated.
Thanks again!
yeah right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as: The latest Radio is the best. It also isn't as simple as: A particular version works best with the Kaiser. Another factor to take into account will be your location, as the radio will determine what kind of signal you get when using your phone/GPS/GPRS/etc. Your best option is to try each of them out and see which one is best for you, i.e:
Which seems gives you the best signal?
Which seems to give you the best Battery Life?
As it seems you're new to the Kaiser, you should know that nothing is as straight forward as it seems

I'm running NoThrills WM 6.1, with the only compatible radio, and I have no issues with 3G/HSDPA in Philadelphia and South Jersey. Even amongst the steel beams at Citizen's Bank Park last night, I was getting full bars with HSDPA available the whole time.
I went ahead and flashed Sluths new one and now my battery doesn't bleed like a stuck pig. REEE REEEE REEEE

I'm using 1.65.14.06, but I am not sure which other ROMs it may be compatible with. At the time that NoThrills released his 6.1 ROM, it would only work with his because part of it is OS Version dependent.

Is this radio capable with stock TILT? I'm currently using that at the moment while I familiarize myself with the device, and would like to recieve HSDPA and am in the philly area. I have applied the necessary kaiser tweaks, etc. but still no H on my screen and mid range 3G bars.

No. This radio requires a WM 6.1 ROM and AT&T has yet to release their official upgrade from 6.0. HTC just released their versions yesterday, so AT&T will probably have something within a week or two.

For all of you who don't have an H, only a 3G. Make sure you've enabled HSDPA. The simplest way is to install "kaisertweak." You should all be useing it anyway because it's such a great tool.

"H" means HSDPA (2nd Generation after GPRS), "3G" means UMTS, (3rd Generation), i think so...
Because ive a "H" with my non UMTS-compatible, and a "3G" with my UMTS-Compatible phones...only a idea...
I'm running Dutty's Apr29v2 with the 1.64.08.21 radio and I have 3G and H signal in Santa Ana, CA... I also tried the Niki radio, 1.58.16.27 and had great service w/ 3g & H. Battery life is a little better with the 1.64.08.21 from what I saw but gonna go back and try that radio again soon... Let you know...

and to those running Dutty's ROM- there's an option to enable HSDPA in the connections menu and/or you can use the registry hack to enable the icon.
For what it's worth, the stock tilt ROM never gave me the "H" icon- it always said 3G no matter where I was

What is the best radio rom to T-mobile USA which will eliminate missed and dropped calls and provide better call reception?
2.26.11 T-mbile radio rom

Additionally, can you flash either rom after installing TNT 5.0 Touchflo outright?
Can somebody post the roms for each radio listed above on this thread?
Thanks.....
I use 2.69.11. You can flash it after TNT5.0 as the flash only modifies the radio rom.
The installer is on the xda FTP site under /Wizard/Radio_Roms/ as "faria 02.69.11.rar"

You will probably need to experiment to see which radio will offer you the best reception, no-missed-calls, etc.
Yes, you can flash the radio rom of your choice after flashing your PPC with whatever flavor of WM6.

Not a bad radio but I experience missed calls and there are no notifications at all letting you know there were calls or messages or voicemail at all.

I'm tellin you, you want to use the 2.19.11 UK radio plus the cingular radio fix2. I have tried every radio mentioned in this thread in the pursuit of resolution to the missed call and bad reception problems and finally found it with the 2.19.11 radio.
I have attached the radio and the patch.
You should give it a try.(IMHO)
Instructions:
create new folder and extract both zips to that folder
Run RUU and phone will reboot itself
You now have 2.19.11 UK Radio
Now copy the attached cab to your device and install the cab.
Soft reset and youre good to go.

You will just notice a considerable spike in your reception where you already had decent reception and also places where you had no service before, you see that you have enough of a signal to make a phone call or send a text.
For example, when I am at home, I always have reception with the original radio, but with the 2.19.11 radio I have full signal in my basement.
When I would go to my girlfriend's friends house out in the middle of nowhere, I had no signal at all with any other radio, but with the 2.19.11 radio, I have 2 bars and can still call and text freely. It's funny because my girlfriend who also has t-mobile has no signal at all on her razr out there... lol

May I suggest flashing new radios.
My T-Mobile carrier in North Atlanta Georgia must've have did something to the local towers. For awhile I was using a radio that had full signal, untill two weeks ago, it only had two bars. After flashing a new radio, I had full bars. I flashed the old radio agian to make sure because it was the radio with the battery life, but it went down to two bars.
Make sure you have a correct radio, ie. radio for 6.0 or 6.1.
Just do a search, plenty of information, and this questions have a lot of answers.
By the way, those stick on antenna boosters don't work.

I'm in Atlanta, Georgia, US.
Radio 1.64.08.21 with 3.08.161.0 full bars.
Has the signal always been weak? On Monday, a T-Mobile tower was off for maintenance that whole day.
I am in Sydney, and useing the Three network (this company use Wcdma and GSM combination solution).
my phone is T-mobile version MDA.
maybe the version kaiser not working very well in my network.
lol, i was kidding about the cell phone booster thing, they dont work at all. just one question.......how is it that u are so sure that the kaiser has a weaker signal compared to your nokia or samsung?
because now I have three phones with me one for nokia N73, the other for samsung i600, last one is HTC kaiser. in the same place, almost sametime(I have to change the simcard) they shows different signal sutuation. for instance, kaiser only got one signal, samsung got 4 out of 5, Nokia got full.
when I use kaiser to make a phone call, in my room, sometimes it has been cut down because of low signal problem, it didnot happen for samsung and nokia.
therefore, I indicate kaiser has poor signal compare with samsung and Nokia.
and I wanna fix it as well. becasue kaiser is such a cool phone include all kind of functions.
the radio needs to change thats all test the radios till you find urs thats it.

You saying you tested both 6.0 and 6.1 roms. Since its a dual mode, go to Phone -> Band -> under Network Type, make sure its automatic. If not, I suggest just get a new phone.
I think the htc devices do have weaker reception than some other phones. I have had xv6600, 6700, and now tilt - all have worse reception than the phones my wife (moto rzr) and kids (lg venus, enV) have. Also my colleague at work gets a data signal on EDGE with his iPhone and I get no data at all at that location (4 bars for voice, rssi ~ 25-27).
Changing radios hasn't made any difference for me rssi values and #/dB of cells in fieldtest are always the same. I haven't studied the fieldtest program in depth, but that might be a way to objectively compare things.
nothing like that no diffrent than the others i have had quite a few my self i see drop signals after i flash but when i find the correct one its all good.
in your experiances, which radio has the best reception?
I am a Hermes owner as well. On my Hermes, the icon shows '3G' most of the time until the phone needs to download. At that point, IF HSDPA is available, then the icon changes to 'H' then back to '3G' when download is complete. However, on the Kaiser, when the HSDPA switch is enabled, it never shows '3G'. Always 'H' wherever it's available, then 'E' everywhere else.
Why doesn't it scale back to 3G at all? I would rather the phone be in 3G mode than H all the time to reduce battery drain? Is this right?
You're right in that the phone should act the same way as the Hermes (H when using it, then 3G when idling). I remember vaguely some 6.1 ROMs had an issue where they displayed H all the time, whether it was using HSDPA or not.
Which ROM are you using, my friend? Might be worth looking through the thread for that ROM and seeing if it's a known issue with the ROM, and if it isn't mentioned, posting in that thread to see what other users are experiencing.
I'm sure you'll find that it's just an icon quirk rather than the phone's in the "wrong" state, so your battery life shouldn't be affected.
When I first started using my Tilt, it would switch back and forth between 3G and H icons depending on the network. For the last 4 months, it has remained on H the whole time.
I use KaiserTweak to auto disconnect HSDPA/3G after 1 minute of inactivity, so regardless of the icon being displayed, I have no adverse effects on my battery life.
In freeware PocketToolman, under OS Tweaks, there is an option that allows you to "Show EDGE network icon instead of GPRS". Untick this option to disable the "E" display.
HSUPA
I've seen in some threads that when your icon stays as an H that you are in an HSUPA enabled area. As I don't seem to live in one I couldn't tell you for sure.
When I'm in NYC, my phone is always showing "H." On my train ride between home (CT) and NYC the phone will switch between all bands depending on my location.
So, it's not just always showing "H" irrespective of the true band. And, when home it'll always show 3G until something is downloading, just like you note.
So...it has to be the band in NYC (for me) that's causing the continuous "H."
The best thing is that there is no difference in the battery drain even though the phone is constantly showing "H," and my download speeds have never been faster. I'm constantly in the 1+ mb range.

I have used Dutty's and uDK ROMS. They both act the same. I guess we really don't know EXACTLY which state the phone is on for sure. Since mine only show either 'H' or 'E'. Never ever see '3G'. On my hermes, it's mostly '3G'. I have to see if this really drains my battery quicker or not.
But all of you guys think that it's bug in the icons then?

I've never heard that. I always thought 'H' was for HSDPA. I guess they should make it distinguishable from each other like 'Ha' and 'Hu' or something.

Yes...maybe that is close. My observations:
The alpha letter(s) refers to the data connection technology. AT&T Q1-2008 network software upgrades enabled the HSUPA feature. At the same time I also noticed the constant "H". However, I caught it early and depending on where I was, I would observe "3G" (idle) - "H" (active data session) - 3G (idle)...or...constant "H". I asked some AT&T contacts and learned that they were rolling out SW upgrades across the market, over a 2-3 week timeframe.
I now get the constant "H". Same ROM through all of this.
"3G" (data) refers to older R99 technology. "H" refers to HSxPA (high speed packet access). It may be that in upgraded areas, the network now defaults to HSDPA (and eventually HSUPA) data connections if the device supports HSP...and the handset is simply reflecting this. Prior to the SW upgrades, HSP enabled devices were still getting pushed to HSP when the data session went active so there is no real difference in performance.
This "H" business has nothing to do with voice. Voice is always plain old UMTS WCDMA.
My point is that I don't think it is an issue with some ROMs. Can't really say that I have noticed any difference in battery life either.
as stated above, when I first got my phone I was getting 3g and H during download and as of late its been an H everywhere, I flashed to dutty's 6.1 rom and everything went back to 3g it dosent even give an H during download.
Might be network specific. I've tried so many roms (on TYTN II) and it has always acted that way where it shows 3g or H from time to time although sometimes it would go down to "G"
I have had the same thing on my kaiser on T-Mobile in the UK, both using the original WM6 rom and that of Dutty (6.1). But it only happens where I live! In most parts of the country, it reverts to 3G. But where I live (North London), it stays constantly on H, irrespective of the rom and the radio used. This started maybe thre months ago. Before that, it would revert to 3G. Any idea?

That only happens I think when you have HSDPA turned off. Did you check to see if it was on?
FWIW...
I just flashed to Official *TEST* ATT Build 6.1 AKU 1.0.2 Build 19209. Default icon behavior was constant "3G" after flash. I enabled HSDPA via Kaiser Tweak and icon behavior changed to constant "H". Speed tests report 875 kbps (or so) regardless of HSDPA setting via Kaiser Tweak. Toggling HSDPA on/off via Kaiser Tweak does not appear to change radio performance and speed test results. It only changes icon behavior. The radio is always operating in HSDPA mode, irrespective of icon indication.
YMMV
Im using Dutty WM 6.1. On my Tilt, H only shows up when I have an active data. It reverts back to 3g when there is no data connection or not active data

It seems as if its related to network dependant than the rom itself as i use to get 3g on and off and revert to H but now its constant H and that started around 3-4 months as well location U.K LONDON

What radio are you using and which dutty 6.1? I have used all the 6.1 (currently using dutty 6.1 rtm of april 1) and they all have just shown the H regardless of active data or not..Similar to the other poster with a constant H or 3g
Okay, never mind, Dutty answered...But my Athena (and also my Hermes) still changes from 3g to H and back to 3g..Just my tilt stays on H.

Hey Bro, I was doing the same thing with KaiserTweak; and I ran into my tilt not being able to simultaneously do data and voice when I selected anything other than: Disabled (Default)
I use Wayfinder and Google maps while driving and often talk on the phone while needing to download data such as map data.
I raised the question in another thread and a another member pointed out the bug in KaiserTweak.

I was using the same rom as you were and the NIKI radio (1.58.21.23 ). Just this morning I loaded the new Dutty rom with radio 1.58.16.27...H is shown with active data and 3g is shown with no data or not active....my location ROCKLIN CA.
Well I have just upgraded my Vodafone UK V1615 to the new official Vodafone release of Mobile 6.1, before that I had WM version 6.0.
Before the upgrade my icon like many here would stay as H in HSDPA enabled areas and then change to 3g or even G in other areas, regardless of whether I had a data connection or not. Now since the upgrade the strange thing is it varies between G and 3G but does not, ever, go to H. I am absolutely certain that I have HSDPA enabled on the phone.
The funny thing is that when I am work which is definitely an area where HSDPA is constant it still reports 3G but when I run a test it downloads at 1350kbps which is definitely HSDPA. Go figure. This rom has only been out a couple of days so it may be a bug. Be interesting to see if anyone else reports this problem, or it may be deliberate because 3g is more familiar to users here in the UK then HSDPA - maybe its to do with marketing!
Cheers

Hiya peeps well i am new at this so am not a out blown expert i did a lot of research and i could not find some answer to some wanted question on radio and stuff like that now where i should start
ok i had my treo 750 to att 2.25 and wm 6.1 and i wanted it unbranded to 2.27 so i followed the instruction and i tried to do the radio up date using cheetah but i most have did something not right, for this part i got one question
using a sim card in the network setting for band should it work on auto or its normal that i need to specified what band am using? or i did something to my radio? (and not talking what tower it should connect to that automatic am talking between gsm and umts since am on telus that uses bell/telus shared tower that on UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900 network code of 302880 since i did that at lease it said the right provider and its no longer disconnecting me or saying no service)
if i update my radio should i use from this site?
www crc.id.au/files/xda/Radio_Roms
if yes what version that is safely work with unbranded 2.27 and wm 6.1
if no then where i can find the right radio rom i can grab for my treo 750 and instruction how to install it lol
am trying to understand how the phone should be setup while using a sim card without any disconnection by the phone also gime ability of roaming as well since i like my phone to be able too for future use
anyway thanks for reading and really do hope someone reply
also P.S: about the roaming icon any solution to that?
When you flash an OS ROM, it doesn't change the radio ROM. You have to flash it seperately.
I would suggest you only use the most recent radio ROM for your provider.
I have used 1.54.07 and 1.54.27 on my AT&T Treo 750 with success.
The Treo uses Hermes ROM's ... here is the repository.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Do not install 1.54.30.10 ... it's not a great radio from many accounts and once flashed, you will be stuck with it. You can't flash a new radio over the top of it.
ok now the radio is updated and it work i used the 1.54.07.00 so now am happy for that part but i got 1 more treo 750 i could not updated the radio due to there spl is 0.25 then 1.40 like my main one i normally test on them other treo so if they turn into a brick i would not care lol
is there a way to update a bootloader or i miss something somewhere?
Sounds like you need to Hard SPL the second phone.
well that what am trying to do when i do try with the hard spl v7 it does not work it goes blank so am trying to see if i can find a bootloader that 1.40 so i can so the same thing on the second phone to test radios and other kinky stuff
also on the side spot i notice that my phone fails to auto detect its band and the only way i can make it work is to select the right band for my provider is it coz i didn;t completely unlock my radio or i did something that bad? or re-flash the phone?
Anyone tried the 1.48 Radio ROM. Some are claiming better battery life than the 1.54.

I wasn't aware there was a v7 to Hard SPL, I just used the version in the first post of the HardSPL sticky here in the Treo 750 forum. It's worked on both Treo's I have tried it on. I would say re-download and re-format the SD card and try again?
As for having to select bands on your phone, my guess is whatever ROM you have flashed might not have the carrier information for your provider included, or your radio might not support the proper bands. Telus doesn't use the same 3G bands as AT&T, but Rogers does. Depending on which version of the phone you have, that could be the issue.

I tried it on AT&T and both the 1.54.07 and 1.54.27 ROMS were far better in terms of reception for me. Can't remember on the battery life since it's been awhile, but have to believe at the time if it was an issue I would have made the change back.

Okay - mine has 1.54.27 on it so I'll leave well enough alone. I just got this off of eBay (non camera version so I can take it to certain places at work) so I'm not sure what to expect for performance. The orginal battery lasted about 1/2 day so I just got a new OEM original battery and still burning it in.
Thanks for the tip.

I've always been able to get through the day without issue, but can't say I'm a heavy user.
The stock battery is 1200mAh, but Innocell makes a 1600 mAh battery that fits in the OEM space if you need more juice.

It's likely not the OS ROM causing it. Assuming you have other phones that lock onto a signal properly in the same locations, then it's probably the radio ROM. However, if the Treo in question was not originally sold for your carrier (which I assume is Telus) then it's possible that the phone is trying to find a frequency for 3G that is not supported by Telus. For example, AT&T shares the same 3G frequencies with Rogers, which are different from Telus'. If you have a Rogers or AT&T version of the Treo, you would probably be better off just locking the phone down to GSM only.
As for finding the proper radio, you would need to try to find any Telus radio ROM that you can. Have no idea what that would be, or where to find it. If you have the original WM5 or WM6 official Telus installer package it would likely be included there. Otherwise you are just going to have to scour the net in seach of it.
Hmm, in my tests it is the OS that handles the Band selection only, what bands the Treo supports is up to the Radio firmware. You can flash a radio that, say, doesn't support UMTS 850, and yet it's possible to write a code to have it selectable.
And a word of advice. If you flash any of those Hermes ROM's, there's no taking it out. No overwriting. So, say if your wireless carrier upgrades their network like mine did, there's no going back to any of the suitable Radios that you can find.
And, just to be helpful, I'll write down which Official Treo Radio can be found in where(the ones I have):
CNG 1.16 (Cingular WM5) with Radio 1.12c [no HSDPA enabled by default]
VFU/VFE 2.18 (Vodafone UK and EU WM6) 2.18 with radio 1.47.02.00 [fast HSPDA on UMTS 2100 band]
H3E 2.19 (H3E Australia WM6) with radio 1.52.30.00 [no GSM locking, AUS band]
ROW 2.23 (WWE Generic WM6) with radio 1.54.00.00 [equal performance on all bands]
ATT/CNG 2.25 (AT&T WM6) with radio 1.54.27.00[Optimized for 1900/850 UMTS bands]
TEL 2.26 (Telstra WM6) with radio 1.54.31.00 [Extra band locking to single UMTS band (850)]
ROG/ROW 2.27 (Rogers and WWE WM6) with radio 1.54.01.00 [Slight performance increase over ROW 2.23]
VFE 2.30 (Vodafone New Zealand WM6) with radio 1.54.02.00 [bug fixes and improvements over ROG/ROW 2.27]
All personally flashed and extensively tested by me on two wireless carriers testing all bands.

I guess we have different experiences then. I have had improvements in my phone locking onto a signal by changing radio ROMs without changing the OS ROM. I also have also used several of the Hermes radio ROM's and have been able to flash new radios without issue. The only exception I have ever seen is the 1.54.30.10 ROM which was widely reported to be impossible to flash over once installed (which for that reason I never tried).
I took from the OP that he was having trouble with his phone locking onto a signal and it was showing up as roaming a lot. I guess my thought was that perhaps he had a phone that wasn't originally sold for his network and it was trying to lock onto a band his carrier didn't support. Logically it seems like that might cause his problem, but I'm not well versed enough to know for sure.
As I mentioned, I am on AT&T and am using the 1.54.27 radio you report. It's the best of the radio ROMs I have tried. The Hermes 1.54.07 was the second best I tried. Thanks for the list, I'm sure it will help a lot of people. Of course you will now start getting requests to post them ...
Heh, when I said it's the OS that controls th selection, I mean just that, basically the drop-down menu in Band Selection. I too know that one can flash new radio's without changing OS's (you don't even have to Clear Data to use the new radio, just edit your choice of Data Connection setting, save, and your phone will automatically re-list your internet setup for use), and that's the thing. The OS will retain the Drop-down menu selection of bands, as it is tied to the OS (or both .pxp packages), an example is several tests I tried, for example the H3E ROM, does not have a selection for "GSM only" in the network type list. Say, if you flashed the ATT radio only then it will still retain the lack of GSM, because it is tied to the OS.
And yeah, I'm sure there would be at least one request. The problem is, I lost my source of instructions for ripping the Radio Firmware from the .nbh files and I do not want people having bricked Treo's all because I didn't follow instructions [I don't have]. Other course of action is to share th ROM itself, but that's large and I don't have an always on connection (this here Treo is my only source for internet, tether and built-in browser)
By the way, there are a lot of others who could not flash over other Hermes Radios, not that .10 one. I myself have 2 AT&T Treo's, and I flashed radio 1.50.00.00 and it remained no matter what I used to flash over it. I eventually gave away that half past dead Treo :/
well it used to be on auto with my telus card and it works on 3g network, the problem happend when i updated my treo 750 to 2.27 from 2.25 with wm6.1 am starting to think i mightn eed to reflash the rom it self
ok my wife as a fido sim card indeed i think its telus sim card the problem i have to use selective band it didn't needed that before i turn the phone from 2.25 ATT to 2.27 rwe the fido card work with the last radio version and i finally updated the bootloader
telus work with selective band >.>
now to know why fido card work auto but not telus
what does the radio do?
i got radio 1.54 .and i got two battery indicator when i installed HTC home (six tabs)
one bat is full and the other is like by bar. i want to remove the two battery because i got some newer/cooler battery indicator.
and i search some radios (idk why) so i try to installed other radios. and my phone stucks at the three colors.
and something pops up to my mind. i use cheetah unlocker. it got
FLASH SPL
RADIO.
idk the one.
so i flash spl and till i get to radio. it automatically updates to 1.1six some other icons on task bar changes.
but what does the radio do? and i dont know.
-sorry for the Six. because my Sixth button on keyboard is broken.
