Pocket Internet Proxy

Not sure where to ask this ... but here goes.
Where does Activesync or whatever get the proxy settings from ? The problem I have is that my PC is on a network with an ISA 2004 server on. I need the proxy on the Pocket PC (WM5, O2 XDA Exec) to be set to "server.domain.local" port 8080 but after every sync it gets set to "server" port 80.
It's doing my head in ... as IE and firefox are both set correctly to server.domain.local port 8080. Where the hell does it get it's wrong settings from, as it can't use the net with just server and the wrong port in the proxy setting ?

dont worry i got the same problem and searched low and high for the answer, i can get 2 programs to connect to the internet via my imate jam but the rest wont.
netfront and egress both use a HTTP proxy but nothing else will do it no matter how i set things up.
oh i did also get tinystocks to do it too it has a proxy setting that installs into activesync but it only works for its own program.

Xbox 360 Bridged?

Ok, I have bridged a connection from my laptop (xp pro) to my Xbox 360 with a crossover cable. I have my ppc 6800 mogul tethered to the laptop to provide the internet with ICS. Here is my problem... When I test everything out, I get a NAT setting of "moderate". I need to get the NAT settings "open" in order for it to work correctly. I have played like this for the past couple of days, but I have to have one of my friends invite me anytime that I want to play.
Do you think that it is my phone is the problem, or the laptop? I wish I could just get cable or dsl, but it's not available in my area.

Honestly I'm shocked you are trying to do this at all. All the XBOX people I know won't even use a router because of lag.

yeah i don't think using the internet connection from your cell phone could be expected to fully support the bandwidth required to run xbox live...

Microsoft requires 256 down and 64 up. I have supplied 1.5 down and 144 up. The only thing that I seem to be having a problem with is a little bit of lag (150 to 250ms). My real issue is the ability to connect to others to join in a session. That is where my NAT settings come into play. If you have a moderate or strict setting, it is almost impossible to join in.

dont understand what you mean only because i dont have a 360 but i have done this before.
Just replace the ps2 for 360 and the wifi connection for the cell connection. Not saying it will help but maybe something will. it may have things that you didn't do.

This won't work.
ATT and most providers data networks uses NAT.
This means your phone gets an address like 10.0.42.123 in ATT's cellular network -- and has a public IP of e.g. 64.2.3.2.
Obviously this is NAT -- and it of course is not in a DMZ, nor does it have port forwarding for XBOX live to your cell's IP.

You can call your provider and ask them to open port forwarding, but they won't know what you're talking about -- and since they give DHCP leases the port forward rules would only be temporary anyways. Besides, that would cause serious issues for everyone on their network if they forwarded a port for you. (E.G. Any inbound port request would go to you, disrupting service for other customers.)
I doubt gameplay would be usable over 3G or EVDO anyways.

DUDE! i have been tryin 360+Mogul
i have been tryin and tryin... took my 360 apart tryin some mods. still... ONLY can connect my Xbox 360... to my laptop... which is connected online by my mogul Via WifiRouter-3g to-Usb. WHY cant someone figure out HOW... and Make it available to DIRECTLY CONNECT XBOX 360 ONLINE THROUGH POCKET PC INTERNET SHARING?!?!?! i know i dont have the knowledge... but somone does.... WM5torage... im sure you have heard of it...? it is a strong base.. when i connect my phone to 360 with that app runnin... my 360 thinks about it for min... then decides it wont recognise it...im outta ideas... somone....
IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES!!! modify an xbox 360 shell.. and a small laptop screen with xbox harddrive/with a small computer all in one... lay xbox on lap.. flip open the lid.. wireless keyboard and internet.... whoa...

Active sync through bluetooth

Hi Guys,
complete newby, know-nothing-boy here.
Got my xda orbit and just trying to get it all set up the way I want it to work. this is not easy given that I am a complete technophobe so everything's a massive learning curve.....
.....so, I got my orbit 2 connected to my works pc through Active sync and it talks to the calendar and everything appears to be fine and I've set up a bluetooth connection and can beam a file from my laptop to the phone. However, I cannot get my calendar/emails to up-date through bluetooth and neither me nor our IT guy can figure out why not!!!!
Can any guru on here help please.

Have you downloaded the new Mobile Device Center? Is your Laptop running XP or Vista? When I last sync'd with an XP machine via bluetooth, I could not sync contacts etc either, only worked with Vista for me.

Hi David,
1. You have to pair your Touch with XP
2. Create a incoming port.
3. select the incoming port in active sync for connection
4. start activesync on touch

I feel for you sir.
I've been a PDA / Pocket PC user for a LONG time. I've used a Kyocera 6035 (Palm-based Cell/PDA), Sprint 6601, Sprint 6700, AT&T 8525, and even a BlackJack II. So I've used Windows XP with a Pocket PC LOTS of times, but *I* had trouble while in Chicago this week.
A co-worker lent me his Sony VGX-UX280 for that trip. It's a Ultra Portable "laptop" with Bluetooth, Wireless, and Windows XP loaded. Having setup my phone to "tether" (aka provided an Internet Connection) to my Dell Inspiron 9400, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook, and other laptops... I didn't have any concerns about using my phone for Internet on the road. Boy, was that a mistake.
So I'm on the road, and I try to use Internet Sharing on my cell to provide a connection the laptop. It seems to connect, and the laptop tries to pull an IP connection over bluetooth, but it NEVER got a private IP address... so it assigns itself a 169 address that as many know isn't a "connected" IP for most network situations. It's a fallback, when a network device can't find a DHCP server to provide an IP address. Instead, it assigns one to itself, but it's offline.
I confirm that the "sharing" is part of the problem by running Internet Explorer. When "sharing" is connected", I couldn't get to a web page on the phone. If I disconnect, everything works as it should. So I'm like WTF?
I came out to this site and others from my phone browser, and one post said I needed ActiveSync connected between the phone and laptop to tether. So I tried setting up ActiveSync over bluetooth, but try as I might if would NEVER connect.
I then downloaded WMWifi something or other. It basically turns your WM phone into a Wireless AP so laptops and other devices can connect to the Internet. But similar to the Bluetooth problem, I couldn't pull an IP. This was VERY odd, because the Wifi program let you configure which IP numbers you wanted to use. Several options were available, such as 192.168.0.x, 192.168.1.x, up to 192.168.3.x. And there was another range as well, but none of these worked. Not even when I set a static IP address in the proper range on the laptop, or turned off the IP setting in the Wifi program, as suggested in their documentation.
So while trying to "fix" things, I tried deleting my existing Activesync profile. BAD idea, as that deleted all my contacts and such from the phone. So then I'm in Chicago, 2000 miles from home, and the only phone numbers I have with NO names is what is in my call history.
At this point, I figure I have one of two problems.
1) The config to the AT&T network on my cell is wrong, which is why the connection isn't working as it had in the past. I do know that while the AT&T settings auto-configured by the Touch Cruise weren't perfect after the wizard ran. I went out to AT&T's web site, and customized my settings to match the Tilt recommended configure. I also configured a "standard" GPRS setting that DOES NOT use the AT&T Proxy Server. That's been the ONLY way I can use Skype .6, as it can't connect to their website through Media Net.
2) One of the many programs I've installed on my phone has fouled the registry/config of my phone. I made a list of all the apps I've installed on my phone, and I suppose any one of these could have screwed up my ability to tether...

With the above, I can navigate anywhere in the US, connect to my work network with VPN, control my computer there like I was in my chair, and much more. But obviously not being able to get to the Internet on the road is unacceptable.
Probably will hard reset the phone this morning, and take it from there.
Sorry if it seems like I took over your thread. But like you, I had NO luck connecting ActiveSync through Bluetooth.
(Quick note: Even when I borrowed a USB Cable on the road, and tried to tether my laptop to my phone for Internet... I STILL couldn't get IE to connect to websites via my phone. I COULD use Activesync, but by then I'd already lost my contacts, etc. So I'll get that back on the phone now that I'm home.)

port 25 blocked

hi,
i'm trying to send mails using smtp on port 25 through my own server but wm61 is not able to connect to the server (i don't see any packages on server side).
it doesn't matter if i try to send the mail over grps or my home wlan. (a notebook in the same wlan is able to connect over port 25).
i entred the url http://mailserver:25 in opera (sure it would never get a page, but it should at least generate some packages) but tcpdump did not receive anything on port 25.
If i use these addresses http://mailserver:80 or http://mailserver:81, tcpdump loggs some pakets.
seems port 25 is somewhere blocked in wm61. does anyone knows something about it or even how to solve it?
if possible, i would prefere not to take another port.

Bare WM6.1 does not have any firewall, so no ports are blocked. You had to install third party firewall on your device that interrupts connection.

What windows version does your PC run?
Have you actually activated remote desktop on the PC?
Are you trying to connect via local network (are you at home) or from another place? If from another place, have you configured your router to forward port 3389 to your PC?

I'm having the same problem.. Not had any experience in remote desktoping myself (except stopping the Work's IT guy from spying on me whilst i trawl through XDA good at stopping, not so good at starting )
I think the reason I havent managed to get it to work is down to my router (Thompson peice of s*it!) wont let me.....
What i'm trying to get at is it might be your router...

i did'nt look at the youtube vids, so i'm not sure you already looked into this. when on the target computer remote desktop is probably already on, but did you also allow all (older) versions of remote desktop te connect?
i remember that option is there since vista (perhaps even XP). for example: when that option is turned off in vista, any xp machine won't be able to connect. i'm pretty sure remote desktop mobile qualifies for 'old'

1. Right click on My Computer , properties , remote , enable remote on this computer
2. Do not obtain private address automaticly from your router , use static IP private address instead ,and on your router do a port forwarding to that static address
example 192.168.0.10 port 3389
3.Install client from dyndns.org that will map your IP address to your dynamicly changing IP global address that your service provider assignes you
4.Configure Administrator password on your windows computer if you dont allready have it
5.Run your remote desktop from your winmo and input all necessary that you had configured
I know that wont probablly be enough , but it is a start ,all missing blanks fill by yourself , google for things you dont know

im so confused now i dont know what ip i should put into the hd2 remote desktop app and dont even know if i configured my router ( asus wl520 gc ) right =/ if some 1 has the same router as i do, could you please tell me how to config it?

Seems like u guyz gave up on this prob lol.
I getting really frustrated now, after 4 hours trying to get it working.
I have Vista Home Premium. Ppl on some sites are saying that you cannot use this OS to connect remotely. Then some say it works perfectly.
I added the ports on the rooter. Just to check if they are open I downloaded portchecker. (Pic added)

Have no idea what application would be locking this port. If I go to canyouseeme.org the port is open and is not blocked by ISP.
Just to make sure I am doing rite:
Computer: Which IP do I use? My outside IP?
Username: This can be the one I am using to log into my computer or the full account name?
Password: password I'm using to log in
Domain: Leaving blank.
Anyone can help or sorted this issue out before?

Just wanted to add this in case someone else has the same issue.
If you have Vista Home Premium the Remote Desktop is disabled in the OS. You have to re-enable it using a hack.

Once you finish this make sure that you have the port forwarding on your router for 3389.
If you do it should run. I noticed that my internet connection died once I was able to connect to my computer using my HTC HD2. Once I disabled the port forwarding the internet worked again.
It's rather difficult to navigate on your PC using your Phone without a stylus but hey I'd rather have this than missing some other stuff..
