Excuse met to if this has already been asked im really not sure what to search for though. All the information i have found on the forum and in the wiki doesn't really answer my question.
So i started cooking roms a few hours ago becuase i want a lighter rom than i can find on the site and also just to educate myself. Anyways i finally got one working with all the hardware and cabs i want. But i would like to know how you do things like set up custom start menu items with icons, themes, sounds, and connection setting like i see in other peoples roms. I was under the impression you would be able to dump all of the os files from the nb and then put it all back togather. All the tools in the kitchen just seem to create images or binary files. Is there something im missing? Is this just all done with custom registry settings, if so is there a good thread somewhere about doing customizations via the registry? I was really hoping to rip IE and windows media player out of CE i guess there is no way to do that if you cant extract all the files from the os....
Also one more thing what are these packages Registry__Increase FileSystem filter cache 0x8000 in alex oem 5.1? I really wish there were some kind of descriptions with each package.

Check the Kaiser Wiki it should have every tutorial you need there.
Well, I have looked around and found winCE Cab manager as I have googled and searched. There is not just a easy "Answer" that I was able to find, although there might be one right in front of my face.
So, if some can KINDLY just tell me how to make a simple cab, just to change a registry edit, I would be happy.
Just an example as this is a madeup reg keystring:
HKLM-system-htc-software-blah-blah-blah, in key touch, value is set to 0, but I want my cab, once installed to change that value to 1.
I also want to be able to revert back to the original setting if I was to remove the cab.
So, for the short and skinny answer, is there an easy way to make this happen?
will i have to use the WinCE cad maker software, or, do I need something else??
I want my cab to be able to run on my Sprint TouchPro running WM 6.1.

I'm trying to learn how to create cab files. I have the WinCe cab program.
Can someone help me with how to create a cab file for an URL?
(There is a cab file which installs an icon for Bank of America, and clicking the icon opens www.bofa.mobi in IE. I would like to create a few more for other banks.)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you could attach the .cab so as i can dissect it then should be easy enough to work out how to create another but have never created a .cab to direct link, but willing to try and help.
You can use Opera mini 5 instead, have your URL programmed on one of those tabs.

Seems the MiniPIE is hardcoded with the website address imagine for security reasons, not sure if able to make a link like PIE \ WWW. \ ?resource.dll for the icon, will have a good scrat around
Even easier save the page in .html create .lnk now will just be creating a icon .dll which will depend on site or if using 6.5 can use the numerous software to change the .png?

I have no idea what the above means ... I'm not a programmer by any means .... could you explain a bit more .... and maybe in layman terms ...???

I confuse meself sometimes
Well if you open up Firefox and go to a page you can go File/Save Page As save as .html then if you put this on your phone when clicked will open up default browser and the page you saved, so rather than placing in start menu you can create a shortcut too it.
Normally with a program you can create a .dll so example google.dll and what i'd do is import a image into it and tell the shortcut to see it instead of just looking like a .html "but @ the mo i'm having no joy"
Now on 6.5 there are numerous programs to change the .lnk image so you may be able to use something like JWMD Icon Changer to do this.

Why bothei yourelf to create a cab to do that? It Is so simple to create a shortcut for an url, check here:

Excellent catch. Thank you very much for finding it and posting it here.
Now here's one problem though. The icon that shows up is a weird windows icon. Is there a way to get the site icon in there??
I guess that's the advantage with having a cab ... It puts in the site icon.

Looks like you are a huge fan of cab installers, but to make every shortcuts a cab really takes time.

Me too once tried to use complicated ways for this before finally trying the shsimplest method.
Similarly, we can make a shortcut for any files on the phone, only if there is an associated app to it.

I was finally able to figure all that out ....
Tools used .. SK Shortcut Manager | GConvert | Icons
Using these I was able to create the icon dll files.... and voila ...it all works ...it all just works ...

Sorry to revive a kind of dead thread but i am attempting to do the same thing.
I have created a .lnk named it BofA.lnk and its target is set to
"\Windows\iexplore.exe" http://www.bankofamerica.com/mobile/
So i now have that in my start menu but the shortcut has the icon of pIE, how do i change the icon to a bank of america one?

Everything after the ? is used to identify the target icon offset in ANOTHER dll/exe/cpl.

Hi everybody.
i am a new user of WM and i would love to permanently delete the not-so-useful "useful icons under the calendar as they ruin the look of my screen. However, the cab file i found on this forum didn't really work on my phone.
And as far as i see in this forum. i can also edit it in Registry Editor, but my stupid question is that how i can get to "Registry" ???

You have to install a registry editor, WM does not come with one. Try this thread or try searching.

Hi to all, I'm interested in theme creation on HD2, but after searching on the forum I wasn't able to find out what software I need...
The only way to edit manila is extracting the files with CFC GUI and, after trying to understand where the icon goes on the phone, editing it with photoshop?
Anyone knows a software at least to understand more easily where the single image go?
(some graphic software to make something nice would be great too)
