Just a quick question about Wifi SD Cards
1. Are they worth it ?
2. Are they any good ?
3. Is there a lot of "Hot Spots" in the UK ?
The reason I ask is that my bithday is drawing close and i may ask for one as a pressie.
I have'nt got wireless at home just thinking of having one as a bit of a toy really . (Cant think of anything else I want from the mother in law besides socks He He ! )
So what I'm asking is are they worth having one for free or will it just be a gimick?
Thanks In advance
There are plenty of hotspots all over uk, also you can set up a wireless system at home by adding a router to your broadband connection and surf happily at home, in the garden or in the toilet if you wish, it is very fast and although there is a place for bluetooth when using headsets etc, the wireless system is unbeatable for surfing and data exchange.
Also is the M1000 SDIO enabled ???
yes all himalaya devices are the same hardwarewise
only the wallaby dont have a SDIO slot
but the wifi cards with onboard memory is not support by the himalaya devices
It seems that Wi-Fi consumes a lot of power, are the spare after-market batteries any good? How about batteries that are enhanced over original?
WIFI SD XDA II
Just purchased the San DIsk WI FI card M000 and it only works if you do a soft reboot. It gets a pretty good signal up to to 90%. It doessn't seem to consume too much power. I went from 90% battery to 75% battery in 2 hours of it on. But I wasn't surfing the internet I was just letting it get an ongoing signal from the hotel i was sstaying at to test it.
In fact, I was wondering what software I should put on the XDA II to support the Card and actually use it to surf. Socket or San Disk?

Hi
Just joined site - awesome! wish I'd known about it years ago!
I have an XDA2 (rom 1.72.00WWE).
noticed 'cruisin-thru' mentioned many hotspots in Uk, that's fine but you still need to locate those places.
Does anybody know of a decent (and cheap!) wifi sniffer program that will work on XDA2?
Phil.
maybe something like this?

You're selling your card?
Are you giving up on WiFi-ing or you're going to get another card?
giving up on wifi
I stayed at the 4 seasons in NYC. there were over 22 hotspots in the lobby alone. but could i could only barely get it going. no. even the tech guy who set up the wifi network at the 4 seasons couldn't get it going. You have to hold down (with the stylus) the "available" network- then you will get a "connect" menu that you need to quickly click on. It is an awkward stylus stroke and i have a palsy so i am not able to perform this movement. if you are dextrous, no problem for you. i have been on this site for 3 months but no one here told me any of this. hope this helps some one else who is going through the whole wifi thing.

I am using a Treo 750 with a 3 PAYG sim, and have added the mobile broadband addon, and I am well impressed!!! Why 3 dont sell this as a package is beyond me.

Me too!!!!!!!
Yes their pay & go tariffs are great! Specially the internet monthly add on for only a fiver and your credits doesn't expire until you have used it all. My only gripe on the treo 750 is it doesn't automatically dissconnect the data connection after pocket outlook pulls my emails.
Hi all
I been reading several old threads regarding dual SIM, but none with actual information about it.
Can anyone please recommend a place in USA to buy a working dual sim adapter please?
It´s for Raphael (AT&T Fuze) device.
Thanks in advance,
Bump!
Q&A great an experienced team!
Any comments?
Thanks in advance,
Hey Orb,
I didnt think HTC phones supported dual sim, ive heard of people trying with limited success.
Thanks timmy
I have read several threads regarding some dual sims working but very old ones, so I´m wondering if anything new has benn launched and how is working?
Cheers,
I had a ghost dual-sim for my Universal and Polaris.
It required cutting the chip from each of my SIMs to fit the adapter.
To switch from SIM to SIM, you either powered the phone off and on, or engaged flight mode for 10 seconds.
The biggest problem was that it wasn't 3G/HSDPA compatible. If you tried to catch a H signal, it lost the signal and restarted from G. In the end I had to disable advanced networks in Connections.
Now if a dual-sim that works with HSDPA has come out in recent months, I'm very interested.
Thanks ZenithUK
I´m looking for more comments from members!
Orb,
I have such a dual SIM adapter in use since one year now, and it works fine. See thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389928
When I bought it, I had WM5 on my device. Upgrading the ROM made it even better:
On my Wizard with WM 6.1, the OS detects the phone card in use after booting and makes the right settings after asking if this should be done.
On my Himalaya with WM 6.5 it works, too, but does not make the settings automatically. Most likely this feature is not implemented in the ROM I use (or in WM 6.5).
No idea where to get one in the States, but it obviously has to be the "Switch on/off" type to work with WM devices. The cheap ones you get on *bay will not do the job.
Thanks a lot for your comments mate!
hi everyone
I have an ACER M900 which according to the specs it is compatible w/ att's 3g network. I have a sim card w/ iphone plan (voice+30 dollars monthly data). I can only see an H icon beside signal bar so I guess the phone has detected the 3g network. tried to configure the network setting by what has een previously posted here but w/out a success. can anyone help me? any/all info is appreciated!
Is your device running Acer's Connection Wizard? Its link, called 'CWAutoConfig.exe.lnk', should be in '\Windows\StartUp'. If you're using a Lite ROM, it is not included. You'll find it in the separate cabs folder provided by the ROM cooker. If you happen to have it running, and, yet, it doesn't work, I've found these informations about AT&T connection settings. Hope they fit your needs.
Just my 2 cents...

Don't see why not, I have done similar with a 3 broadband dongle SIM card. It surfs just fine in my Xperia.
Not sure about using it as a modem though.
