O2 Orbit 2 photo geotagging - Touch Cruise General

I have found that the longitude value stored in a geotagged photo is incorrect. The stored longitude value is always positive so that all of my photos are now shown east of Greenwich when displayed in a mapping programme. As I live north of the equator I have not been able to check the Latitude value
Is this problem specific to the O2 Orbit 2 or do other Polaris variants have the same fault?

Dunno about your particular issue, but sometimes they're always specified as positive values but with a W or E afterwards, so 1.2W is -1.2.

Yes, using E or W is another way of specifying the position relative to Greenwich but the Orbit 2 geotagged photos contain only the decimal value (no negative sign or W if west of Greenwich).
To enable geotagging I changed the registry entry HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P9\Enable
from zero to 1. Can anyone tell me what all of the other parameters in the registry under Camera do?

Not this again. I had the same problem with my Orbit 1

So did you resolve it?

Report the fault to O2, if enough of us do this they might do something about it - I just use a PC editor application to add the negative sign to the header info and its fine - Mike

Do you get the exact position with this edit? If so I think I can live with this. Can you give an example and what software do you use?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I get 100% accuracy, but it is far closer than the MDA C-III ever was doing this, I found the missing link this morning and it seems to work fine on the Orbit - 2 now
My Device/ Hkey_Local_Machine/ Software/ HTC/ Camera/ P9
Set Enable from 0 to 1 (as is usual)
Set Encoded Format from 2 to 3
I use the power button to force a reset, as I find this more reliable, simply hold the on/ off button for a few seconds and accept the warning to power off the device, when it re-starts the GPS Photo mode will work, it uses the negative values correctly if you open any picture taken this way via Pandoro Flier, it didn't until I changed the Encoded Format value - at worst the picture I took this morning was about 75 feet out of position - which I can certainly live with (far better than previous attempts where the Lytham Windmill was in the North Sea)
Interestingly the Orbit - 2 also shows a GPS reception strength indicator on the screen while in Geo-Tagg photo mode, this is something I have never seen before untill earlier (much earlier) today - Mike

Cheers Mike

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I've been searching for a fix for this problem and haven't been getting anywhere.
I've tried Mike's suggestion of changing EncodeFormat from 2 to 3, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Has anybody else had any luck with this method, or any others? (I should point out that I've got a Polaris, rather than an Orbit 2).
Thanks.

SDA - few questions - camera lag, video size, auto profile?

First post here, hopefully somebody can shed some light. I've searched to no real avail for answers to these questions.
First, and most importantly, has anybody found a way to speed up the camera when taking 1280x1024 pics? The lag seems to be on the order of 1+ seconds, which is intolerable when you have a 2 year old. I found registry entries for the camera key delay, and set them all to like 100 or something (one of them was set to something huge like 100000 or something), but haven't seen any improvement to shutter speed. I may have even tried setting the delays to 0, but I don't remember anymore. NOthing seemed to help though...
Second, I see folks with the MDA have a 320x240 option for taking videos, however us SDA users only get 176x144 or smaller. I understand there are reg entries for video size, so I tried creating a mp4Large entry (which I did NOT have already, like the MDA users), but or course it didn't give me any new options in the video setup menu. So, anybody know if this is even possible? I have to assume it is. WOuld it be safe to import the mp4large entry from somebody's MDA, or would that even help? any insight here appreciated.
Third, has anybody found a way to make the phone automatically go into silent or meeting profiles when you plug it in? I hate it when some goofball calls the wrond number at 3 in the morning and my phone is blaring, and I can never seem to get into the habit of manually putting it on silent when I go to bed.
WHich reminds me, for those who haven't yet discovered this, you can toggle from normal to silent modes by holding down the # key. Most of you probably konw that already, but i jsut stumbled across it this weekend, so I thought I'd sahre with those who don't know.
I suppose I'll also ask folks what theiry typical battery life is too while I'm posting. Mine seems a bit short. With bluetooth on (but usually idle), WiFi off, and normal phone (1 hour max) and browsing (light browsing, wap pages mostly) usage my battery goes from 100% to <50% by the end of the day. THis seems a bit weak to me. Basically, there's no way I'd ever ea able to skip charging my phone overnight, for even one night. Not good when camping, etc. Is this pretty much on par with eveybody else's?
Greatly appreciate any comment, opinions, and help with any of these.
Thanks!
Jeff

SuspendToUnattendedMode: what does it do? Any clues?

This is from the pm.dll (powermanager) of 2003se (also applicable for wm5?)
The dword value must be set in
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
"SuspendToUnattendedMode"=dword:00000001
What is Unattended Mode? Does it prevent Alarms going off?
Is it a deep sleep mode?
Anybody with a clue?
I also found in my registry (dunno where it comes from after so much messing about) a strange value:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts
"BattStandbyPeriod"=dword:00000004
However I cannot find this in any of my rom files. Must be a leftover from
a test with HP power management I guess.
ps: alarms work so much better if
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts
"ACResumingSuspendTimeout"=dword:0000001E (30 secs)
"BattResumingSuspendTimeout"=dword:0000001E (30 secs)
or even 60 secs.
Cheers
Unattended: This is a confusing state in which the screen, the backlight, and the audio are off. I won't go into too many details, other than to say thatthis is a PocketPC-only state that is used by applications which need to do things without alerting... of the other states.

Thanks for the info vijay
I can't believe it!!!!
At last!!!
this little "SuspendToUnattendedMode" value is what I've been searching for all over the place for the last couple weeks! This one little edit solves a ton of problems with the buggy WM2003 and WM5 issues, (bluetooth, wifi, missing SDcard, pda freezing on 'off/standby' etc, etc). It's not perfect... it burns the battery like crazy, but at least it allows the pda to function somewhat normal without constant soft resets.
Thanks for sharing this. My device is finally working sufficiently.

[UPDATED 2008-10-09]Request for testing band switching of CommMgrPro in Raphael

Hi.
I am solving the issues of CommMgrPro with Raphael. The most important were.
1) CMP didnt change the band correctly (2G <-> Auto <-> 3G)
2) CMP didnt set correctly the speaker volume.
Any help to see if those issues are gone in this version will be wellcome with free licenses
Version V2.2(2008-09-12)
1) There are towers on each country with same cell id. So now the primary key for Cell Mode will be CellID + LAC. CMP will convert your database so make a backup before and will fill the lac information each time it finds a cell with lac equals 0
2) Compatibility with HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro (Fixed Band manager, speaker manager, GPS manager and some GUI changes).
3) New option to repair the database.
4) New page for connections option (In connections/menu/options)
5) Option to disable/enable connections on roaming
6) Option to CMP startup delayed on page Options 3.
7) Option to Show/Hide the main window after start CMP.
8) Clicking on the higher part of the battery bar opens the battery page
9) Clicking on the lower part of the battery bar opens the battery page
10) Hide button is raplaced by calendar button.
11) New Today tab. This dialog lets you see the next events that will happen in the place, including calendar events, "Always on" schedules and other events (time limits, etc)
I´m on it!
I´m curious to see how much battery economy this will bring when switching off 3G? I´ll post my findings. What do you mean by speaker volume (in call?).
thanks
Belive me, it really save your battery if you swith off 3G mode. My battery lifetime increase from 8 to 26h.
Regards
B.

Hi Daniel,
I'm expecting my Touch Pro on Friday, I'll report as soon as I can.
Manni
So far so good on the band...
I´ve tried all day switching between 2G and 3G and it seem to work seamlessly, which comes as a huge plus for me to save on battery when 3G is not needed.
One thing I don´t get.. the HIDE button. CMP is hidden but how to unhide it without having to press the icon to launch it again.
Update: Yes it asks for the PIN but naturally it has to since it´s reestablishing a connection to the Celular provider.
Regarding band switching - it works sometimes because sometimes CM just reset himself (generate errors)
Another thing is that if I'm switching from 3g to 2g is asking me for PIN
When I'm doing it mannualy (GSM to WCMDA switching) system never ask for it.
B.
Hi
In the options page you can set the pin code. In this way CMP will enter automatically the pin when switches the band....

Well, I usually assign a hw button to CommMgrPro. Raphael has few buttons so I assigned long press phone button to CMP. CMP installs a Today plugin and a tray icon to manupulate CMP directly from today screen or bring it to front but you cannot see them with touchflo 3d. Sorry for not saying it before, you can set pic code in options dialog so cmp will enter pin code automatically....

No, system volume. You can control ring tone and ring volume as a action associated to enter/exit in a profile/place (using cell ID)
It was short and 5min test - I'll check everything once again tomorrow and let you know.
Regards
B.
For those who want to check the 3g effect on the battery live. There is a tab on CMP that shows graphically the battery evolution in different scales of time and if you touch two points it tells you the speed, for example, 6 units per hour. Ok, let your device during some hours in 3g and check the drain speed. Do the same test using 2g. As you will see battery live lasts double (or more) using 2g...
Great Commmanager Replacement
Testing for about 15 mins now and so far no problems.
Although the ON/OFF switching for phone with the "no time limit" function is not very responsive. I had to click another icon before i could switch it on again.
Great work on the battery graphs very useful
I will report tomorrow after some intesive usage.

hehe I see to tested it deeply. Turn on phone with time limit was disabled one month ago because the people requested in this way. Anyway I will remove the time limit dialog to avoid confussion....
CommManager replacement is only a little feature. The main one is let CMP (CommMgrPro) to set the state of the device (phone, band, BT, WIFI, speaker, connections, beam, messaging, brightness, ring tone, today theme, call forward, open and close programs, etc) depending on your current location by cell id (home, work, cinema, etc) and weekday/hour. In this way the state of the device will be different on your work&monday&10:00 than on home&sunday&13:00, isnt it?
Dani
Hi
I ve uploaded a new beta (b6). It warns if you want to change the band but you didnt set the pin code on options and a few more things. If you look at the screenshots on first post you will see there is a screen dedicated to the current (different than the battery page)with two lines, one for instant current drain and other for average. In this way is easy to check the current (in mA) needed for your device under different circunstances (wifi, band, gps, etc) and the temperature of the battery (important for the people like me having problems with device not charging if running gps/tomtom in a warm day).
ps: Talking about gps and temperature, finally I bought and A/C mount system so the battery's temperature is always low and no problem charging....
Hi Daniel,
So I received my Touch Pro today, and the first program I installed was CMP
Couple of issues:
- I installed without deactivating Touch Flo 3D, so I got an error message when the program first launched (I guess it couldn't launch the today plugin).
- If I deactivate the Touch Flo 3D, the icons in the plugin are stil QVGA. Same thing if you change the icons of the location (which makes it difficult to select the right one, as they are not for the software where the seem to be on the screen, if you see what I mean)
- Same thing for the fonts on mostpages / menus. Most of them are very small (hard coded for QVGA I guess) which makes them much harder to reads than on a QVGA device. The location line, or the function icons at the bottom of the main screen, are normal size. Everything else is small (for example, "there is a newer version").
- When Touch Flo 3D is activated, there is no directaccess to CMP (lower right globe icon), but I guess that's normal.
Otherwise, everything seems to work fine. I guess most of this is VGA related rather than Touch Pro related, but here you go, I'm coming from CMP on a Tytn II...
Edit: forgot to specify that the speaker setting and the band switching seems to work fine.
Hi
Thank you very much for your comments and help. Fortunately most of those issues are related with the sizzo vga skin so can be changed modifying the file skin.xml. Modify and enhance the vga skizzo skin is one of the pending things to do. Please follow reporting anything you see
Hi Daniel,
Done a bit more testing today, and I found out that there are two connections in CMP (T-mobile PicMessage and T-Mobile Internet), while I have only one connection setup by default (T-mobile).
They are both enabled, none of them is always on, and only the PicMessage is connected.
Is this normal? I'm quite sure I had only one on my Vario III. Which one do I need to get my push email? If I want to get my exchange email as it arrives, do I need to switch one of these to always on? (by the way, my exchange server is setup properly, and it works thanks to MrVanx...).
Hi Manni
CMP shows all the connectios, even hidden connection. Probably in the connections wizard your operator set up the second connection for other pourposes like mms, wap, etc.
If you re using direct push(like me) you dont need to mark any connection as "always on" because activesync will keep the connection alive....

Thanks a lot for the clarification!
I've tested both b5 and b6 versions on orygial HTC rom.
Discovered that :
1. Cannot clear history of battery usage in CURRENT tab - on BATTERY tab this feature works fine
2. Cannot verify database integristy - error message appear
3. Switching between G2 and G3 works smooth - tested VERY intensivly for last 3-4 days.
Small hints
1. there are two graphs on main screen - on the left is graph for battery and on the right for available field. Is nice of you if you can just create the link between battery graph on main screen and CURRENT/BATTERY tab on settings. This is common problem that Touch Pro battery has very short lifetime and I'm very interested in checking which action is draining my battery more than normal - graph is perfect place for this.
5. Last suggestion for booting TP and application starting process. Everytime when I'm performing soft reset or just starting device, I'm waiting to put my PIN as fast as possible to get my TP online, but THEN CommManPro LOGO is showing and grrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm must wait next 5sek to tap my PIN.
You know, this is not a problem if you are using your phone for private, and there is no more than 3-4 calls from you sister/girlfriend/mother/lover by day, but I'm using my TP for buisness (and testing everything in the same time) manner so time when I'm available is critical - one missed call (because of 5sek delay) and couple of bucks less in my pocket
If it possible for you to just pospone CommManPro to starting just after TF3D it's nice!

Possible IGO/GPS LAG in HD2 - help...

Since it's my first time running IGO on this device, and I don't have another device to compare its performance with... I just wanted to make sure that its functioning normally.
#1 - When I start driving (from a complete halt), the application updates the velocity counter and the guidance arrow position after only 3-6 seconds?... (in this time, the velocity is @ 0, obviously, and my guidance arrow is at my previous position).
#2 - Let's say I've reached a junction with a traffic light, again, I start driving from a complete halt, the guidance arrow is stuck at my previous position (my halt position) for about 3-6 seconds, and only after-wards it registers my actual turn and proceed with tracking.
Is this a normal behavior of IGO?... I have tried both 8.3.2.97313 & 8.3.4.102680 - it seems that they provide identical results. GPS Configurations - COM4 / Baud - 57600
I hope you guys understand... it's quite hard to explain without some visual demonstration.
Thanks in advance!
No thats not normal.
iGo8 on my phone has a max lag of 2 seconds..
Try fidling with the baud rate settings... Mine is set to:
Port: 4
Baud: 4800
Hope that fixes your problem.

Why would a LOWER baud rate make the interface snappier?
I guess that 4800 is a sort of "default" value, rather than forced one, which might cause problems... since Windows Mobile manages the gps configurations automatically, this might solve it. so far, even after changing it to 4800, I don't think it actually changed anything. I wonder because some people claim that their IGO navigates smoothly without lags and provides amazing accuracy - mine doesn't seem to meet those claims at all.
I can confirm that I can get a fixed gps signal indoors, even IGO runs very well - menus/responsiveness wise, but I think that the behavior of the navigation itself has to be improved.
What car are you driving? You should now that the front windows of new cars are coated with some sort of metal and therefore the reception inside the car is limited. Maybe that's the issue, because my father has the same problem when using his PNA in his buisness-car. It seems to lag and sometimes even lose the signal out of nowhere.
It's an old Daihatsu Applause, I doubt it has something to deal with the front window (I'm getting a good reception inside my house, in less than 10 seconds). I'm aware of some EU regulations for cars since 2005/2006, "luckily" I haven't yet owned one of these. ;-)
I wish I could test CoPilot/TomTom, but they don't seem to offer support for my region.
a tip for the gps configuration:
go to the gps menu inside igo8 -> turn off gps -> set gps to automatic
that did the trick for me, every manual setting somehow didn't work or made problems and now everything works fine so far.
you mean com port -> automatic / gps - untick?
what about baud setting?...
thanks for your help!
- you remove the selection on "gps activated"
- then you click on "auto-search" (don't know if it says that exactly, mine is set to german)
it should then search for the correct settings and select "activated" by itself. now you're set.
Well "automatic search" finds the GPS on [email protected] and sets it accordingly.
But it doesn't change getting more than 2fps while navigating.
The navigation-sim shows that rendering perfomance isn't the problem, because that is really smooth.
The GPS position is somehow not interpolated or whatever, with this horrible results, I really cannot understand why it's not bugging people...
Mr. Boba23 - I could kiss you! It's now silky-smooth again
I had it set to "use device settings", because I'd wanted the light-sensors auto-backlight to be active, but guess what, it's still active at "always on".
Great tip!
@Boba23, Thanks a gazillion! I was very dissapointed with IgO, as the simulator makes the device look a fast gaming computer, the actual navigation looked like a commodore 64.
Now, with your tip, both simulation and actual driving looks the same, THANKS.
PS. If you want to go really crazy with frames per second, buy a globaltop Headsup DIsplay GPS, it does 5HZ !! 5 updates in GPS per second. All other GPS give you 1 hz.
so at this point, I can understand that the lag and the "dancing guidance cursor while in a static position" which I'm experiencing probably point on a faulty device, since none of you guys experience these phenomenons.

Tracks from Captivate Compared To Other Devices

Using JH3 with SuperRooter and lagfix.
Did play with LBSTestMode and change settings, but those settings did not change "jupiter.xml" which I believe is where the GPS stores its settings, since that is where we turn off the GPS Log File.
Even with decent locking, tracking doesn't follow very well. Attached images show the differences between the Captivate (Yellow Pins) and Treo Pro (White/Black Squares).
Will try a few things that I've seen and post up some more results after I drive to work in the morning.
Does anyone know name of a good NMEA logging app, to log the NMEA statements directly.
Attached images are snippings from google earth, showing tracks...
Only changes made is used Epic 4Gs jupiter.xml file from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=759641
I did see some improvements in tracking, previously all recorded turns or even lane changes resulted in an overshot track by over 100 ft, that took 10+ seconds to return to active track. These are from today's test with above changes, I drive 45 minutes to work, interstate, US Hwy, and city streets so its a decent test.
(EDIT) Red is Treo Pro recording NMEA with VisualGPSce / Blue is Captivate running GPS Logger from market (/EDIT)
Cap 1 is the only truly overshot at speed turn, at about 40 MPH, but the previous turn was perfect (in the same image)
Cap 2, only appeared on interstate @ 70 mph (on there 11 miles), had about 3-4 lil bumps like this that went off track by about 100-150 ft and returned, seems to last about 6 seconds but could be enough to throw navigation program off track
Cap 3, examples of improvements
Cap 4, examples of improvements

Edited post, that kind of slipped my mind since I knew the colors, but others need to know too DUH...
If anyone wants to know I used gpsvisualizer.com to convert the NMEA and GPX file to a track/waypoint based KML. I know I could get KML from GPS Logger, but I wanted to files with same format
Good research...
For comparison purposes do you also have a tracks of the PRE-Fix??? Like to see how much the GPS actually fixes it, that's not a placebo effect?

I didn't save any tracks before laying around in the 1472365 (LBSTestMode), but I believe any changes made in test mode are only a placebo affect. The first post is before changing jupiter.xml. I'm playing on the angle that that menu/program is exactly what it says, a "Location Based Services Test Mode" for testing different settings. Changes made there are saved in system.db but not in jupiter.xml
From the fact that you have to edit jupiter.xml to disable GPS logging in JH2/JH3 means that settings are definatly being pulled from that file.
I'm actually going to change the SUPL settings in jupiter.xml to the google ones and see what happens.
The first set of images is pre-fix and the second is post-fix?

Yes but last night record some more data and it was back to the tracks over shooting turns and accuracy being off by up to 100 feet so not sure what's up with this thing.
Can see all the satellites with decent signal, so I doubt its a hardware issue but more likely firmware or drivers depending on where the calculations are done.
I know the devs over in the kaiser and vogue forums did work to improver gps accuracy in the kernel.. It may just end up being a wait and see since we don't have source for the samsung kernel
